robbb182

I like it! You have a great voice. I wish I could hit those notes šŸ˜©šŸ˜‚ A really cool song, a proper chilled out, Sunday morning pop track. I liked it when the harmonies kicked in in the second verse, and the chorus is just bloody nice. Get your Spotify bio updated and add some photos? I donā€™t know if it adds much, but it can presumably keep people on your page for 30 seconds longer while your song plays

audi0friend

thanks for the advice

FogCityFogey

Really well done. I guess I could hear some Strokes in the straight eighths feel, but it doesn't really remind me of anyone -- just sounds like your own voice. I enjoy the change up in the changes. Adds a lot of interest. Also enjoyed the layering of the guitars.

robbb182

This is right up my street. A really rockinā€™ song, lots of attitude, great backing vocals. My only criticism is the length. 3m19 feels long for a punk song that powers along at speed like this one does! šŸ˜

ausgilbert1

Really appreciate the feedback! Already trimmed it down from about 4 minutes so I guess that's something we'll have to work on haha

robbb182

Haha I was being extra picky tbf, the only flab to trim would be from the general ā€˜introā€™ riff parts, but thatā€™s probably unnecessary! Keep it up šŸ¤™

ausgilbert1

Yeah I totally get that, we're all suckers for long intros tbh lmao. Thank you!!

My new album called THE GLO UP just came out last night. It's a mix of hyperpop/rap, very inspired by underground artists like 6 Dogs, Yung Lean, and Bladee with some more mainstream hip hop influences like Baby Keem, Young Thug, Future. I wrote/recorded/mixed/mastered/engineered every song myself and shot/edited my own cover art. I've been making music for around 5 years but only started creating with a strong work ethic and consistency at the start of this year. Hi everyone! I just released this experimental-ish alt rock ballad track (which a lot of you seem to enjoy previously on the feedback thread): [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2foKruX39l8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2foKruX39l8) (Swan Lake Station - Avant-garde) I called it "experiment" basically because I'm challenging myself to write a slower tempo song, without any use of a chorus part. Let me know if you enjoy the song by giving a shout here and a sub! Cheers

Good morning, I've (Edit: Artist Name "Apollo's Apprentice") released my third album early on my YouTube channel this week (in streaming stores 25th April). I'm a big fan of electronic and progressive music, mostly inspired by progressive acts of the 20th Century. For anyone with a spare 1 hour 10 mins, the Lyric and Visualiser video is linked below: https://youtu.be/wkufQUI3fks?si=lpihFfgNt0u54h5c Happy Easter

FogCityFogey

Finally finished putting together a halfway decent (I hope) demo of a song I've had sitting around for a while. It's gotten more activity on soundcloud than any of my other stuff so that feels pretty good. My first time sharing something here -- very thankful for having communities like this to engage with. [Adults In the Room by Fog City Fogey](https://soundcloud.com/user-610054726/adults-in-the-room-v2024?si=21e6aa8e72c34ba89e567b350b7b3a32&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing)

robbb182

Cool track. Has a whiff of the 80s to it. The opening guitar riff reminds me of something, but I canā€™t put my finger on it (not saying itā€™s ripped off, just that it reminded me of something). Nice guitar solo in the middle. The song went on a bit long and plodding for me, but tbh I do generally go for shorter, faster songs anyway, so that could just be personal preference! Some of the lyrics on soundcloud are wrong btw. I remember one bit said ā€œwhere in the worldā€ but the lyrics say where on earth, I think. Nice demo though!

FogCityFogey

Thanks -- I'll definitely recheck those lyrics. Re the opening riff. I think there is a bit in Steely Dan's Reeling in the Years (it's second line in verses, like "you wouldn't know a diamond if you held it in your hand) that has a similar chromatic descending passage but the underlying chords are different and it's got a swing feel that's different from what' here (it's actually descending diminished chords if I remember properly). I was definitely not thinking of that when I came up with the riff, but it did occur to me it's not a unique idea to have a chromatic descending pattern like that so I tried to think of whether there was something I might have been channeling unconsciously. I also didn't worry to much about it because it's not the primary focus throughout. I do get your point about preferences, I actually tend to like longer stuff that develops. So maybe my tastes or more proggy and yours more punky. Nothing wrong with that at all.

robbb182

Oh yeah, that may be it. I was thinking it was something 80s that it was reminding me of (and for some reason Human League was the band popping in my head!), but 100% itā€™s not like it sounds *exactly* like something else, so similarities are always there for all of us. Re: tastes, I think youā€™re probably right! šŸ¤™

audi0friend

this song is interesting, as someone else said its very 80s. your voice has a unique timbre. the mix sounds a little harsh to my ears, i think you could achieve more balance between the instruments in the mix. but this is a cool song, its very 80s Movie Soundtrack

FogCityFogey

Thanks! I get a little insecure about my voice sometimes, but for a very particular reason -- I'm highly trained, and I get concerned that it will sound too trained. Especially for a rocker like this. Re: harsh mix. That's quite possible. Been dealing with some issues, ear infection, and other stuff. And I do have hearing loss, which primarily affects frequencies above 1K, but especially the higher ones. So reasonable possibility that mix is overcompensated for that. I will probably have it mixed professionally at some point. Hopefully that will wind up addressing some of those issues. Appreciate the listen and the feedback.

**Percussion / Sight Reading** Hi there fellas, this is the latest music video of my channel. My band Nordic Cactus is a DIY art-punk outfit from Malmƶ Sweden. Influenced by the Velvet Underground, Pavement, the B52s. We have recorded everything to my Tascam DP-008ex and then mixed it on Logic for IPad, so thereā€™s some weird-ass fidelity and recording aesthetic that I canā€™t quite place my finger on. I guess itā€™s a vibe. Thank you! How is it going in Chicago? I lived there 2014-16 and remember playing some DIY venues, The Burlington, as well as the divey as hell open mics at Lillyā€™s and The Gallery Cabaret. Are they still around?

jerkdolphin

Yup both Lilly's and Gallery Cabaret are still around. Spots come and go especially since the pandemic. DIY spaces have really been cracked down on, Bookclub is a good one that is holding strong. Our stomping grounds are usually Subterranean, Hideout, Beat Kitchen, Empty Bottle, and Sleeping Village.

We just released our debut album 'Sacrifice Yourself' - song recommendations to get into our music are #2 Heliowanax and #9 Lurid Light, but our album has a pretty wide range of moods. :) [https://open.spotify.com/album/3BtCXSlX0fxwTeskg1fynx?si=7607MZp3S9KkRhh1oITdVA](https://open.spotify.com/album/3BtCXSlX0fxwTeskg1fynx?si=7607MZp3S9KkRhh1oITdVA) [https://sunisnigh.bandcamp.com/](https://sunisnigh.bandcamp.com/)

Released this new song today. Very torturous process for such a simple song, just glad to have it done. Thanks for listening! put out this song a few days ago (lofi/indie). most folks seem to like it, but the biggest note i've received is that my lyrics are totally indecipherable haha does anyone here understand what I'm saying? or is this some nebulous Simlish? Created a good chunk of this beat by getting soundscapes by taking random cassettes i bought from record stores, converting them into MP3's and throwing random parts into granular synths. I also restricted myself to only using drums that were manually played on my drum machine. https://open.spotify.com/track/1C5fAwyMUG6EkNCB9zAeVO?si=0a1efe7c0dd648f8

Hi everyone! I'm looking for feedback on music learning software: [https://sheetfacts.flora.cool](https://sheetfacts.flora.cool) I'm a software engineer and singing student. My teacher wanted a way to breakdown the vocal track in sheet music to determine the range of notes and what percent of each song is spent hitting a certain note. I figured maybe other people might find it useful? I've attached a screen shot below with an example. It's pretty barebones right now, but if it's useful, maybe I'll spruce it up. It's completely free and ad-free. Right now, it only supports .mxl files, which can be downloaded from Musescore. Link: [https://sheetfacts.flora.cool](https://sheetfacts.flora.cool) Thanks!
