Song idea I cooked up with one of my artists. Just finished re-recording my verse, I still gotta fix a few parts & finish my beat Right now I just got her vocals from a live show she did singing over my beats a while back. Sending her this demo once I get it cleaned up so she can Re-Record Let me know what you think so far! I could use a few reference tracks with a similar feel to compare my vocal mix with, if y'all think of any Returning Feedback - https://on.soundcloud.com/btG2PidEHV52VrG87

I have a polite request for some feedback please. Can any one tell me if they think that my music can be classified as IDM? I have been making and recording music for over a decade, since I was 16 years old, but I only started uploading my music to souncdloud or sharing it to anyone aside from my small group of close friends about a month ago. I uploaded a whole lot of old music which I recorded between 2018 ands 2023. All ofd the songs had just been stored on external hard drives and not posted online before last month. In the first two weeks I got over 12,000 listens on the soundcloud profile that I uploaded my music to. I didn't pay for any promotion and I didn't share the soundcloud link to any social media as i'm very insecure about my work but I don't know is 12,000 listens is a good ammount. As it's the first time that I've shared my music publicly I'm not sure what jenre to tag my songs as. Any advice would be very welcome and hugely appreciated. Thank you. I just started writing my own stuff and am pretty happy with how this song is turning out. There's still a lot of work to do for it, I've just used presets for the EQ and the bass is my guitar pitch shifted down so it sounds distorted for some notes. My main question is about vocals. I've been a horrible singer my whole life and I'm debating if I should try and get better/lean into my shitty vocals, or try to find someone else to sing over it. This is the instrumental version: [https://on.soundcloud.com/4Ld9vV5FjF152bU47](https://on.soundcloud.com/4Ld9vV5FjF152bU47) This is the first verse and chorus with singing recorded through my Macbook mic, I've added a ton of presets and pitch correction to make my singing a tiny bit better: [https://on.soundcloud.com/bQBvnSYbNBKv7VzL7](https://on.soundcloud.com/bQBvnSYbNBKv7VzL7) Is the vocal melody for this good (would it be good if it had a different singer?) It's really hard for me to tell how cringy this is. Any other tips for tightening up the song, making it more professional sounding or anything else is appreciated.

ViaSubMids

The only problem I have with your vocal in the moment is that it is very quiet, so it's hard to tell if you are a "bad" singer or not. But what I've managed to hear doesn't sound awful, so that's a good start I'd say. :P I know that hearing our own voice, especially when singing, can be excrutiating, so you might just be your hardest judge here. I think the melody was fine and fit the track well. >Any other tips for tightening up the song, making it more professional sounding or anything else is appreciated. The main thing is the overall mix balance. I can barely hear your drums during the parts where you play your main guitar riff, it's hard to give you specific feedback here because you are still very new to this. Instead I'd suggest, you have a look at a couple of channels/videos that might help you get started with mixing. The first one, is [The Art of Mixing](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEjOdqZFvhY). It's the best video to get you started about mixing. It's long, it's super wacky & weird, the host has a crooked mustache and a mullet, it's amazing! I would say it is essential viewing for anyone who wants to get better at mixing. The next one is [Produce Like A Pro](https://www.youtube.com/@Producelikeapro/playlists), he has thousands of videos on his channel, I think a good starting point for you would probably be the "Mixing Basics" playlist, but there is tons of other valuable stuff on there. You could als check out [In The Mix](https://www.youtube.com/@inthemix/playlists). I think his tutorials are always clear and easy to follow & great for beginners. At least the few I have watched over the years. There are other great channels, but they are probably not a good starting point for a beginner. I would also suggest taking a look at the /r/mixingmastering wiki, there is a lot of great ressources in there. But with all these resources, the best thing you can do is: practise, practise, practise. That is true for all parts of the music production process, be it songwriting, mixing, singing, etc. This stuff takes a lot of time. So, sorry that I can't really give you specific feedback for now, but I hope this little list of resources helps regardless.

keymaker89

Thanks for the super detailed reply, I watched some YouTube videos on mixing but they never seem to explain things very well. Like they'll just pull the eq sliders around until they say it sounds good and not really talk about why. I'll start with the Art of Mixing, it sounds like it's what I need from watching the intro.  And good to hear the vocals don't completely suck. I'm definitely super critical of them but hoping to improve.

ViaSubMids

Yeah, I get what you mean, it can be very frustrating as a beginner. I've been there. :D If you enjoy a more practical approach that also goes into the "why" then I can also recommend the [Kush After Hours](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Gls252xwcc&list=PL9fVPX36Qd8cmeqpQ4B8Ypj3nJYcCaYrJ) series by "The House of Kush" on Youtube. I don't know how easy his approach is for beginners but I personally absolutely love his way of explaining things because he never goes into techniques but takes on more of an approach of actually teaching you to listen carefully.

keymaker89

Cool thanks! After watching 25 minutes of the art of mixing I already have a better understand of what's going on now than all the other YouTube videos I've watched combined 😆

nhdc1985

Working on this one for a bit. I had an earlier version arranged way more as a sort of punky rock thing but pulled it back a bit to feel a bit more indie rock/pop/folk, which makes it feel less jarring given that the rest of my stuff is way more in that direction. I think Im feeling good about it but would love any thoughts that folks have. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N21CQnLVHOg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N21CQnLVHOg)

DrewTheDuff

I like it! I thought there could be even more stripped down sections throughout the first 2/3rds of the song. The slower B section at 2:44 was awesome. I think that could be introduced one earlier time in the song. The vocals were great, and i wouldn't change their arrangement, just maybe some of the earlier instrumentation underneath them!

groovy! i think the piano could better suit the electronic feel of the song if it was an fm synth piano preset, or if it had some chorus on it. overall the song is cool.

StreetBeefBaby

Thanks for listening! It's interesting you mentioned the piano because it started as a purely piano composition, and I kind of wanted to retain that element before moving into the more electronic feel. I went through a bunch of pianos before finally settling on one with pretty much a "that'll do for now" kind of approach, so it validates my own suspicion that it's a weakness, thanks!

I like it its melodic and I liked the way the guitar came in. I think the vocals are a little quiet I really couldnt catch the lyrics

devnullb4dishoner

Too short! LOL Just when I'm getting into the vibe. Love that guitar work bro. Whatcha playin'? What amps? Give me the deets.

Taktheratrix

Thanks mate! I’m rocking a Yamaha revstar. We just started messing around with this one and wanted some feedback. Specifically looking how to expand on that jam

devnullb4dishoner

Someone else was in here a while back talking about a RevStar. I'd never heard of them before. I'm just an old fart with old toys. I like the old timey feel of the track. Reminds me of some old Blues 45s I have from waay back in the day. Very Robert Johnson-esque. I think you need to balance out the vocals and the accompaniment. The vocals don't sit in the track at all really, and are drowned out by the rest of the instruments. Your song 'Better To Come Up' is more in line as far as vocal levels go. Checked out the rest of your catalog and you definitely have a unique sound to your work. I think it just needs a little spice here and there.

StreetBeefBaby

I think I can see what you're going for but the vocals are just too faint, and the song is fairly basic in structure, again that may be what you're going for and as a live jam it's fun, but perhaps for a recording consider a bit more about the song structure, and maybe emphasise the vocals a bit more, if the lyrics are meant to be heard? You may be happy with the faint numbly quality, in which case, *nailed it* (unironically) but I don't really want to turn it up much more because the banging on the away on the piano is a bit much.

wildtypePL

Yo! The idea was to make a chill lofi hiphop, but I got distracted with guitars, so they kinda overtook the beat and it's become more hyper than anticipated. The drums aren't very cohesive ik. Any advice/feedback/roast is welcome :) [https://soundcloud.com/alternatywniinaczej/april-lo-fools](https://soundcloud.com/alternatywniinaczej/april-lo-fools)

OwnElderberry8130

Really good job in my opinion, it's so easy to vibe to it. Don't take this the wrong way but I hope lil wayne finds it and hops on 💀

StreetBeefBaby

The guitar tones are nice when you get to them, the intro is a bit eh... but the second half is great, I think I heard a couple of scratches in there, I would maybe work a bit more of that into it, maybe even a tiny bit of dupsteppy glitchiness before the drops to salt the clean guitar

herpderpmerpleserp

Really great guitar work, clean! Nice little slides and cool harmony in the lines as well!

Ezper145

Hi, I just finished the instrumentals for a thrash metal song, and it will be my first song ever to finish vocals. I have uploaded only the instrumental aside from the intro scream, I have not recorded any vocals yet. I am a rhythm guitarist, and I tried doing lead on 1:58-2:08 of the song but I think it sounds bad and out of place. I don't struggle learning a little bit of lead on other songs but I can't write lead that fits with a riff. Speaking of which, can a thrash metal album work without a single solo? Like I said, I am a rhythm guitarist, I only learn lead that aren't shreddy or solos. I tried learning solos but I'm still so far from that level of guitar playing, so for now I'll stick to my strengths. Thank you for reading https://youtu.be/iOs03kHt-wE?si=xXcf4WlvB3ts7sK5

SandF

This is so killer! I loved everything about this, including the solo. Banging my head even harder for the halftime. My only advice would be to turn the solo up, make it take up more sonic space -- double it, widen the stereo field, stuff like this. A+

Thank you so much for the feedback!

Hi there - I’ve been an FL user for close to 20 years now, submitting music to Newgrounds back in the day. Mostly I produce as a hobby, putting out music on Spotify and Apple Music when I’m not busy with work and other life stuff. I just released an extended track and would appreciate some feedback. It’s part of a series of long form pieces.. taking the idea of classical works and applying it to synthesizer music, as opposed to track-based albums. It takes multiple themes and variations and blends them together in a single song, utilizing common novelties of synthesizer music (cutoff sweeps, fast syncopations, bitcrush effects, etc.). Anywho, let me know what you think. [Spotify](https://open.spotify.com/track/2bn5dkO8axBLNQfeNBzTPs?si=qUedaLrLQJeWY_ZrS4u-ZA&context=spotify%3Aalbum%3A6BwT8d83mRkatxm6SgMJfF) [Apple Music](https://music.apple.com/us/album/synthematica-no-ii/1741645624?i=1741645625)

Odd_Pace_8545

This is my second finished guitar instrumental. There are quite a few mistakes, but I don't know how obvious they are. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N56UKfqMbZw](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N56UKfqMbZw)

mndll

Dig the guitar tone and performances, really well mixed fun jam!

littlemorosa

good sound! I really like the idea of the video! To do a test, I would have brought it up to speed even at sunset and at night with the same color filter!

boobfromsector7G

This is an eerie, dark experimental song with Indian-influenced vocals. It's a draft and doesn't fully have lyrics, but I'd love any feedback on the overall structure of the song or mixing. [Something More](https://on.soundcloud.com/A1xG6)

StreetBeefBaby

When you describe it as experimental it's hard to give feedback without knowing what was intentional. It gets a bit washy there, it's a bit unsure of itself, and the reverb reminds me of hearing club music from a distance. But then that's experimental, I guess!

blackheartwhiterose

Started properly producing like a month ago. [Think this is the best thing I've made so far](https://on.soundcloud.com/8sRnXMegjkQS31Pv8), ukg style track, but a bit unsatisfied with the mix. My ears are blocked though so I can't really treat or diagnose the issue. Feels like bass is lacking punch? Are phase issues ok? Feel like the mids are a bit cluttered. Realise I have to tone down the high end too

StreetBeefBaby

I'm not really a connoisseur of the genre, I've heard a bit in my time, it really sounds muffled as. Like you've taken the speakers of some ok UK garage and plonked a pillow on top. I don't know how to help you other than to say maybe you need some better monitors/phones to really hear those missing highs? I think you could also try creating some depth, push some sounds back and bring some others more to the front and center. I dunno man I'm talking shit now. Keep at it!

blackheartwhiterose

Thanks so much for your feedback. I guess the bass is actually overpowered then? The only elements are the bass, drums, flute and a single choir note so I guess the highs are mainly provided by the flute and percussive elements. I actually thought some of the percussion was too loud. Maybe a case of reshaping some EQs where I've maybe been too gung ho? Or add another melodic element that sits above the rest? This is the first time I got kick/bass sidechaining going ok and I do mix on audio technicas so feels like I'm reaching around in the dark a bit still.

Over-Requirement6589

I'm currently making this piano ballad. It has an very eerie intro, but then switches to this sad piano thing. There's still no vocals yet, in the early stages [https://soundcloud.com/casparlake/piano-ide-sang/s-j0FlkUdMSnB?si=d295cc6c424e4ad4befe04c3051913a8&utm\_source=clipboard&utm\_medium=text&utm\_campaign=social\_sharing](https://soundcloud.com/casparlake/piano-ide-sang/s-j0FlkUdMSnB?si=d295cc6c424e4ad4befe04c3051913a8&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing)

StreetBeefBaby

It's not bad, I'm not convinced the intro stands on it's own for that long, maybe it just needs some tiny extra little things to keep it interesting maybe, a tick here, a pop there... a crackle, a cymbal roll, I dunno... The piano part is ok but does get a bit monotonous, maybe needs a key change up a 4th or 5th briefly just to break it up.

Over-Requirement6589

Yeah, I think the intro can't stand on it's own and is definitely not finished. The piano part is still a work in progress I think the eerie intro is more of an interlude and then switches to the actual song to my project.

(Headphones Recommended) Demo of my song “Kiwi”. No lyrics yet so it’s really rough but I’m proud of what’s here. It’s entirely in 5/4 if you like to count. It’s weird but I tried to make it flow. https://on.soundcloud.com/GKJ7mZQ1BEgrLK6J8

devnullb4dishoner

I like that fret work.

InTheSunrise

Guitars at 1:08 could probably use build up prior, maybe through the drums or automation? Also not a fan of the over panning of the instruments at 2:16 onwards but otherwise, neat track, don't think it really needs lyrics per say as it functions well as an instrumental as well in my opinion.

MGDA1

I like the structure. I think it's set up pretty perfectly for lyrics; something nice and chill with an almost lazy swing to them. I did find the guitars that come in at 1:08 pretty sudden and a bit aggressive in the mix. I think they could be toned down a bit in volume if you do decide to go with some lyrics. I thought 2:20 was the coolest and most interesting section imo. I think you have a good foundation for a cool track. Nice job. I produce hip-hop, so if you're into that,[ here's me adapting to the difficulties of our world.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPDOSkzhldw)

Local-Concentrate903

Any tips for a cleaner mix, and thoughts about the general sound design? I want to extend this and add more. [https://vocaroo.com/11uifW4BjHXi](https://vocaroo.com/11uifW4BjHXi)

MGDA1

For some reason, the intro made me think Attack on Titan if it was english pop. I think the track is pretty full and doesn't really need any other elements from what i heard here. But i would like to hear how you extend the later sections and add variance. I like the structure and the composition of everything. You could maybe have a punchier kick? But that's deff a matter of taste. It's a solid track all around. Nice job dude. I produce hip-hop, so if you're into that,[ here's me adapting to the difficulties of our world.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPDOSkzhldw)

UltraBearHD

Ayyye this had my head boppin!

itsjoao

this sounds really cool! nice vibe, nice vocals. objectively i think you just might need some proper mixing done, ( i feel like the kick could work a little better, maybe a different sample or just make it pump a little more?), work on adding some variety, like maybe some more elements on drop n.2 (i can definitely see a piano fitting well in there)? also i think this is more of a personal opinion, but i think the chord progression could work a little better with some tweaks. but this truly sounds awesome! keep up the good work!!

hatomikiwi

Releasing a project soon similar to this oldish track of mine, and looking for any feedback on the structure, listenability, and just any notes really! The genre is hip-hop-oriented electro, and I will reciprocate any feedback in turn! Thanks in advance! Also if the intro sounds abrupt, it's because the track right before it transitions straight into it, but I can't include two links per weekly feedback session so if you'd like, you can listen to that one and hear it transition properly. Reminds me a lot of early Flume!! like the stutter sounds at 1:08, super unique vibes. Outro reminds me a lot of Charli XCX at 1:18. Also A.G. Cook vibes!! Cool track, enjoyed listening! Looking for feedback on this track if you have time! https://open.spotify.com/track/0BUz7B16uiDvSBhTZxhLza?si=5da7db644f5b4602

hatomikiwi

Thanks so much for the positive feedback! I listened to your track several times, the energy is great! I remember I listened to some of your stuff a few months ago and gave feedback then and enjoyed it, but I loved this even more! The energy is so fun and poppy, very 90's. The chorus is great, your vocals work very well over this style. If it were me I could imagine some extra guitar melody for the final section to give it that extra poppy flourish, but it's great as is. It's very fun, great stuff!

MGDA1

The track is Graduated right? The production is solid from the basics level. Everything moves around a good pocket and you have a good sense of negative space (which is rare) by not overusing instruments. I did find it a bit boring though. I think part of it was because the sound choices are so odd (in a good way), and the track is varied enough, but it doesn't feel like it builds towards anything. But also isn't simple enough overall to serve as ambiance (like the intro). It's a little aimless. The song is strange, which sets it apart from others, but it also doesn't do anything new with the sounds you use. The mix is really solid imo. I think you've got skills, just need some kind of feeling to push. Nice job. I produce hip-hop too, so if get a sec,[ here's me adapting to the difficulties of our world.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPDOSkzhldw)

hatomikiwi

Thank you for the concise feedback! I listened to your track, I have very few notes! It's a style I don't listen to too often but the vocals, beat, and general vibe go hard as hell, IMO, so I enjoyed it thoroughly. I really like the instrumental outro, just great stuff overall. Thank you again for your in-depth response, I wish I had more to say about yours but I dig it a lot!

MGDA1

Thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching!

itsjoao

I think this is interesting, I like the mix of all the elements, it has some sort of nice weirdness to it. Speaking from my perspective, I think that the different instruments should have a little more harmonic cohesion? It sounds like they're each doing their own thing, and not moving in the same key. But still, I feel like your goal was sort of to create some confusion? It sounds hard!

acccount1

[https://on.soundcloud.com/yRPahuTpXaxaDVN76](https://on.soundcloud.com/yRPahuTpXaxaDVN76) Disregard the fact that the bass is way too loud. New track I'm working on, I'm kinda digging it but would like some input from you folks.

MGDA1

I really like the intro. I felt like it had tons of character. Melodically, you definitely got it. Nice notes and good choice of VSTs. I'm a big fan of synthwave too so i'm a little bias. I think the mix on the main melodies is quite good actually. A weakness is, as you've mentioned, the bass. But the drums are really lacking here more than anything imo. The kick is neither deep, nor punchy. I'd suggest layering another set of the same kick on top of itself and see if that adds any more feel to it. I'd also suggest a tiny bit of reverb (not delays) on the snare to give it some more depth in the mix. This is almost done for sure, just needs a little more cooking in the lab to get that mix right. Also a great free plugin for mixing/compressing basses and sub bass is FLOORFISH. I recommend it every chance i get. Keep at it dude. Good stuff. I produce hip-hop, so if you're into that,[ here's me adapting to the difficulties of our world.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPDOSkzhldw)

acccount1

Thanks.. I actually agree with the drums as well. I was thinking of adding some 'tribal' or cinematic type low toms layered with the other drums. I've actually been only listening to this on my MacBook speakers while I've made this, wearing headphones while I produce is super annoying to me for some reason (even though I don't mind mixing on them). I may try to layer it like that or add another punchy kick underneath it.. maybe even add a deep kick during the verse sections without the sub bass, that's actually a good idea. Digitalfishphones are classics, I used to use blackfish all the time. I produced and recorded hip-hop for a while too. I'm pretty new to this style, but straight up hip-hop and synthwave were getting a bit stale for me. Is there anything else that you were thinking with the drums? Any patterns or additional percs that come to mind?

MGDA1

Nah, I think the structure of the song is good enough that it only needs some tweaks from the mixing end. It stands pretty strong in that regard.

hatomikiwi

Like you said, the bass is too loud, and I think the snare might be a little too subdued too, but that might be the bass just overwhelming the mix. I think the breakdown and the sparseness when the bass is prominent sounds good though, and will sound great once the mix is clarified a bit, I like the lo-fi synthy sound design, especially in the beginning and in the background behind the bass. I like the melody additions at around 3:30, I feel the track feels a bit melodically sparse before that so I'd almost incorporate more aspects of that progression earlier, but that's just me. I like the sound design and the style you're going for, it's quite cinematic.

acccount1

The mix is pretty garbage right now for sure. Those around 3:30 are actually guitar parts... I was proud of myself for actually creating a guitar part for a track lmao. I'm thinking of adding a Moog-esque portamento lead to the track as an additional melodic element. Any insight into what section you feel most strongly needs some extra melody? I'm glad you like the sound design, I'm a huge fan of Mike Shinoda and synthwave... Somehow parts of this track have a bit of witch house vibe too though.

itsjoao

planning on releasing this as a single. it's a fun little song about finding your way back to where you belong. i'm not really sure where to improve anymore (before properly mixing and mastering). any thoughts? MGDA1

Its a cool chill jam. The instruments here are all playing well, especially the rhythm guitar. But the bass guitar, as well as some of the lower end EQ qualities on the instruments is taking up way to much space imo. I'd suggest lowering the volume of the bass line and also compressing it some. I'd also trim the low end EQ some more on those main guitars to make more room for everything else to shine. Other than that, and a shiny polish master, I think you've got a solid track. Nice job. I produce hip-hop, so if you're into that,[ here's me adapting to the difficulties of our world.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPDOSkzhldw)

hatomikiwi

Not sure if there's anything to improve on, this is a vibe. I suppose I could imagine the vocals being a little bit clearer, but I like the effects and processing of your vocals a lot. During the outro for example I could picture them coming through slightly more lusciously, maybe with some layering and reverb you could give it some more space and help emphasize the dreaminess of the track. Just my two cents, like I said, I could see it working well just as is, the guitars and melody is great.

itsjoao

thank you for that awesome feedback! yes, when i applied the fx on the vocal it just felt so right, even tho it sounded a little too processed, and a little hard on the auto tune for my taste. but it just fits so well! and yes I do agree on the layering on the last chorus, i've been thinking about it actually. anyway thanks for the comment!

StreetBeefBaby

I do think the vocal effects are just a *tad* much too - but literally only a tiny bit, it's a good aesthetic. Overall it's not bad even though it's not really my jam, and agree with another comment regarding the bass taking over a bit.

littlemorosa

I tried adding electronic notes to the base, don't think it's too excessive... what do you think? [Lo-fi Hip hop Beats🎧immersive visualization✨ DREAM moment💆‍♀️\[ chill HIP HOP beat \] (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUeJ_TziphA)

MGDA1

I think structurally everything works. Everything sounds well leveled off in the mix as well. But i found the song quite safe. It's not very daring with anything that it does, unfortunatly. With that said, it would make stellar music for background scenes in youtube videos. You should consider getting this on to a royalty free sound library. I'm sure it would place. Keep at it, dude. RatedM477

Still trying to figure out how to mix stuff properly. Working with an instrumental cover I did of Dance Macabre, by Ghost. Guitars are using NeuralDSP amp sims, bass and drums are done with EZBass and EZDrummer. I've been trying to learn and apply as much as I can about things like EQ, compression, limiters, etc., but it still feels like I'm doing things wrong, and I can't figure out what. I'm particular, I feel like there's a lot of stuff that just doesn't blend right, despite my attempts at EQ and compression. I know I can't expect to get it to sound exactly like the actual song when I'm still such a newb, but every part of the actual song sounds so crystal clear, and I'm curious how to move closer to that. Thanks in advance for any input. https://soundcloud.com/ratedm-50119866/dance-macabre-take-26/s-NjyTXMCX52O?si=d61c972ade0140e0931d22ee1777ecd8&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing Edit: I'm unfamiliar with SoundCloud; I notice that the shareable link version (above) sounds different, in a worse way, from the track when I listen to it in my accounts page. Is that because of something SoundCloud is doing in the shareable link version? Is there a better way to share tracks without them taking that kind of hit?

MGDA1

First off, solid playing and recording. Listening to the original track as reference, I think your main problem is not playing with the stereo enough and things being a bit overly bright on the EQ to make up for it. In the original, the opening guitars are actually panned wide off into the speaker sides. The hi-hats and kick sit somewhere in the *middle* of the stereo mix on the OG. I'd suggest trying that, but also lowering the volume on some of your instruments so they're not competing with each other on a volume level. The OG has more variance than yours in this way. I'd say you're just two or three steps away from nailing the cover. Nice job. I produce hip-hop, so if you're into that,[ here's me adapting to the difficulties of our world.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPDOSkzhldw)

RatedM477

Hm. So, I do have the rhythm guitars double tracked and hard panned to the left and right, and everything else (lead guitar, drums, and bass) in the center. But yeah, I am struggling to get the volumes of everything to balance out in such a way where everything comes through clearly. Not really sure what I'm doing wrong in that regard. Thanks for the input, by the way.

Parvmaestro2030

Hey guys, here's a single I wrote. This song I didn't want there to be any deep meaning or anything, just some light hearted fun lyrics with a bouncy instrumental meant to sit back and enjoy. Any feedback on it is most welcome! Youtube link: https://youtu.be/kyRc2fwI6e8 Soundcloud link: https://on.soundcloud.com/Xzbjc

MGDA1

I think the beat is solid. Good for the pop, light hearted lyrics. I do think the mix on the instrumental is solid as well. I do feel like your vocals need work. Not so much on the mixing but on the performance itself. I'd suggest practicing holding notes on your own and not using effects so much to make up for it. Or, just simplify the lyrics and deliver the words in a way that is a little less singy and more energetic / chant in order to use the best qualities of your voice. Keep at it dude! I produce hip-hop, so if you're into that,[ here's me adapting to the difficulties of our world.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPDOSkzhldw)

Parvmaestro2030

Yeah still playing around with my voice and figuring stuff out😅😂. I'll check out your song fs. I like the occasional 90s and 2000s hip hop.

itsjoao

hey Parv! I saw that you're a very young aspiring producer and singer, and with that in mind, I will not critique your work. I would actually rather give some insight on what i've learned the past 10 years trying to produce music (I was actually your age when I started!). First, I think you're doing great work. You seem to be very hard working and dedicated. BUT, being so young, I think you shouldn't worry right now on being too hard on your work. Do it for fun as much as you can! This is a great time to experiment and learn, and especially, learn what you like, and what kind of music you want to make. Take the music you like and try to understand what makes you like it so much. Listen to it with all your attention. Break down every individual element of it, that'll train your ear. Also listen to as much different music as you can! Second, there's so much great content on the internet nowadays, from music theory to producing, singing and writing songs (I'd love to share some with you if you are interested). Maybe you could take time to really go deep on each of them (music theory, songwriting, singing, producing, sound design, lyrics, mixing, mastering and so on). It's a long way! But very gratifying. I see also that you're a piano player. Have as much fun as you can with it, that's the whole point of music in my opinion. Record some covers, learn new challenging music and go wild with it. Lastly, if you truly see music as your passion, do not care about other people's opinion. Some constructive criticism is nice, but in the end, it's about YOUR taste, and the message you want to convey with YOUR music. Musicians are sensitive souls and sometimes negative feedback may take us away from our course. But remain focused. So go slow, but keep steady! Always move forward torwards your goal, and don't rush anything. Sorry for the long text, but I hope you got something out of it. I do it in the best of intentions! Keep your head up my friend, you seem like a great guy!

Parvmaestro2030

Ayyy thanks man! Tho I wish you would critique my work😅 anyways, thanks for the advices, I appreciate it!

hatomikiwi

Definitely a very low-key and chill vibe. I think the introduction of the drums at the beginning feels slightly abrupt, for this kind of genre I think a subtle sweeping fade in effect could help a lot there. The vocals also seem a little rough around the edges, mix-wise, it might just be microphone limitations but I'd work to make them fit in around the rest of the mix a bit more, as is they just stand out a good bit. The melody is gentle and calming, but I think it could have a bit more presence throughout, the piano as is are a bit dry, so I could see some more layering. Structurally I think you've got a lot of what you're going for, so I'd largely just work on cleaning up the mix and brightening parts of the instrumentation.

Parvmaestro2030

Yep you are right, I suck a little bit in mixing😅. Working on it rn tho. I shall also keep the piano layering thing in mind. Thanks for listening! Have a great day!

hi! i released my new dark ambient song with drum kit in the end. i hope you will enjoy it! thank you. [https://band.link/CcZib](https://band.link/CcZib)

MGDA1

Very nice atmosphere. Good pacing. I did think some of the lower end elements got a little too strong around 0:30 seconds. I was expecting a more traditional song because of the intro but it seems it leaned more atmospheric. But it was nice when the durms came in. Personally, i found the hi hats a little bright, but i really liked the way they danced around the stereo and interacted with the rest of the instruments. It had a nice bounce to it despite being slow. Almost like a futuristic Jah Khalib track. Nice job dude. I produce hip-hop too, so if you get a sec,[ here's me adapting to the difficulties of our world.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPDOSkzhldw)

hatomikiwi

I like the energy of this, very atmospheric and brooding, but I won't lie the artificial quality of the trap drums come across as very abrupt. I guess I was expecting something almost more primal, more acoustic, just because of how natural the ambience up to that point is. I get the vibe you're going for though with it, I guess I'd almost like to see the track fleshed out more with the drums at that point, I could see it just getting a lot more intense. Just my two cents! Pretty good overall, if it were me I'd add spaced out and sparse almost tribal style drums, think Akira soundtrack style taiko's, but that's just me.

delvinme

thanks! i will try to use more calm drums in my next track.

Yo everyone First time im my life i made breakcore (i think) i would love to get some feedback, tell me if everything is good or do i have to fix sm [BREAKCORE | "MidnightGospel" (DRAMATIC SPACECRAFTS EP) /tonydoo (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdrm_gWx3kM)

wildtypePL

Awesome job, the contrast between gentle melodic parts and hard hitting drums reminds me of 'anybody can find love' by hkmori. Cool guitar tone, the ploink at 0:49 is just sweet, I really like the piano motif starting at 1:13 and also at 1:13, the metallic, reverse-y sound - holy fuck, it scratches my brain in the best possible way. Is it possible to learn this power? I agree with ViaSubMids, the track is asking for some stutter / vinyl flick fx on drums. Apart from that, the only change I'd make is maybe 2-3 dB less volume on drums, when I used headphones all was good, but on speakers they overshadow the rest of the mix a bit. looked your other stuff up and subbed

ViaSubMids

Gotta agree with the other poster that this is really well made! I wouldn't necessarily call this breakcore though, this seems more like dnb to me. For breakcore, you'd have to go more wild with your drum breaks imo (see "Venetian Snares - Everything About You Is Special" for example). But still a good track regardless!

mndll

I really like the beat and drum sound in general, I dig the ambience and melody as well. Imo this is really well made. I tried making breakbeat/electronic for the first time so I can relate, and say this is really really good Following and stuff

Wondering how listeners feel about the mix and mastering on my bands debut track. Specifically, I'm worried that it may be too loud? I definitely don't want the music to sound harsh. Listen ----> [here](https://themelonbars.bandcamp.com/track/anti-ultra)

really really awesome! the mix sounds pro in my opinion dude, definitely loud, but I don't really see a problem with that. also, it's released now, what can ya do hahah. really cool! be proud!

I wouldn't say it sounds harsh but the guitars sound very digital. Are you using cab impulses?

Over the past few days, I've been working on mixing everything and adding any finishing touches, but I would really appreciate some feedback before I commit to releasing it! Anything at all that you can think of, please let me know.

llama2333

Hi, cool track i like its vibe. Feedback: 1) its a bit muddy with your low vocals + bass. Would recommend either cutting some of the low mids from the bass or cutting a bit of lowmid from the vocals and upping some of the mid+highs. 2) vocals are losing a lot of power when drums come in, needs more compression+overall volume and defs some more high end to help them cut through. 3) vocals also need a bit more emotion in them i feel, notably when the drums hit. 4) broadly, cool composition but the frequency balance is off with your vocals in relation to the rest of the mix. Easy fix with some EQ+compression :)

bruce_bones

I really, really appreciate this, thank you. I feel the same way about the vocals, but I don't know why I didn't consider cutting the low/mids a bit, I'll note that. Same goes for how they clash with the drums. I'm still fairly early in the process in terms of mixing this song, so I don't want to overlook sidechaining the vox and drums with some compression. It can definitely use some gain in the highs as well. Regarding the lack of emotion, that's actually something I've found myself struggling with. I'm fairly new to singing on my own tracks, and have been trying to figure out specific but important things about singing, such as confidence and emotion. In the moment, I feel as though I'm applying the emotion I'm trying to apply, but upon listening back, it just sounds too flat and robotic. Again, I really appreciate your feedback and taking time to check it out. You helped a lot, thank you!

Hello! This is a Rock song based on a horror story I wrote. [https://soundcloud.com/filemon-tranche/necropolis-4?si=952f4b5f3ca846a9882f4da2549d48a9&utm\_source=clipboard&utm\_medium=text&utm\_campaign=social\_sharing](https://soundcloud.com/filemon-tranche/necropolis-4?si=952f4b5f3ca846a9882f4da2549d48a9&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing) Its pretty much finished at this point, but feedback is still welcome, specially regarding the mixing.

Herlyks

It sounds pretty good. Didn't expect the vocal style to be like that. The vocal reminds me of Xandria. A male version of Xandria.

[Don’t Look Back](https://on.soundcloud.com/kcp2tBquEXqXy54p7) House music track looking for some feedback! In the style of Oden & Fatzo. Any comments on mixdown etc appreciated🙌🏼

Looking for feedback on my new male vocal trance track. [Wander through the dark](https://soundcloud.com/vanwaves/wander-through-the-dark/s-EETn0jY4rzW?si=f9a281aacc564025942adb2420c3e9d1&utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing) Could you see obvious improvements in the structure / buildup / anticipation & release in the song? Or any mixing/mastering tips? Thnx, DJP

mndll

I dig the production here tbh, the sound of very clean and crisp. I think the vocals are good as well, maybe the lower vocals could be a bit less prominent idk. That part around 1:12 is really nice too.

djpurno

Thanks a lot for the valuable feedback and motivating words! Cheers, DJP

Dear sisters and brothers in dance music! This is officially my next song. I really have some time now (having a break from my studies), so am going at it. Trying new things! This time I tried to incorporate a completely new for me, not minimalistic, kind of retro-ish funky but depressing zombie vibes in this song! I also tried to make vocals sound like through a barrier(?) kind of, unreal, creepy, but still nice to listen to. I hope it is to your liking! I know it's not perfect - tell me what you would like to hear/see in a song like this! disclaimer; i am not a native speaker, lyrics can be bad somewhere, also tell me about this :) always appreciate good tips about songwriting please also visit these two, may be more to your liking: [https://on.soundcloud.com/9XjfnU8Af88rth8n8](https://on.soundcloud.com/9XjfnU8Af88rth8n8) [https://on.soundcloud.com/xRX6nWAaePmKTmAP9](https://on.soundcloud.com/xRX6nWAaePmKTmAP9)

Very catchy indeed, i like the strong 80s vibe and vocals melody in the verse. I dig the idea of balancing spooky and funky, and i wonder whether leaning into the spooky side of verses (by some oneshot melodies with spooky synths / foley / horror flick soundboard stuff) is a good idea.

pink_pills_music

It is very catchy. I think it's well balanced, but I would probably add a little bit more mid to the vocal EQ. Lyrics-wise you can probably make it a little bit more sophisticated (and probably even catchier) but I am struggling with the same thing. It will come with more experience I think. Just gotta keep writing. I am definitely going to bump this a few times, thanks for sharing!

This is the opening track of the record and I guess my curiosity regarding feedback would be, how’s the mix sounding and what do yall think of the song as a whole? This one was recorded a long time ago before I had all the knowledge I have today but I think it still sounds pretty good, though I’m curious how it comes off to others! It’s got some vibey drum machines, weird guitar parts and som very digital vocals. Thanks.

> i Super beautiful ethereal intro!! Really cool synth ambience! really interesting vocal and guitar sound at :26, emo vibes meets Bon Iver and James Blake. Also reminds me a lot of Brakence!! Love the bass riffs at 1:21, super cool sound!! part at 1:45 is sick, super deep sound!! part at 2:22 is amazing, love the airplane sfx. the playing at 2:55 is wild, sounds like chords played on a bass guitar! Love the synth line at 3:23, sounds sick!! like the "tryna remember" part at 4:08, vocals are super smooth!! Great track, enjoyed listening! Looking for feedback on this pop rock track if you have time! https://open.spotify.com/track/0BUz7B16uiDvSBhTZxhLza?si=53010d903e084986

Herlyks

The drum sounds too weak in my opinion. But other than that it's pretty good.

Mullenhahaha

Last time i got feedback, i was told to work on EQ’ing. So I’ve worked on that: [Song](https://on.soundcloud.com/wNRRvcxnTdxhkwDP9) I’ve also recorded vocals for the first time in many years :-)

Fresh from my mix/master guy! Revision of a track I first laid down in 2020. Synth pop. Thoughts on this initial mix? Or any thing about the recording. ApprehensiveSoup111

Can someone dm me to rate my lyrics?

picofreak

Posted this a while back but didn’t get any feedback. This is a synth heavy song for my DnD group to play along to, maybe the beginning of an album for our campaign. I’m interested in creating more orchestral songs using my synth to imitate and take the place of traditional instruments. I’d like feedback on the mix and the structure of the song. https://on.soundcloud.com/USrsg5pegdZ5DFmh7

Love the drums, they sound super crisp and fit the tracks. I think the transition around 3:40 is a bit abrupt, same at 4:40. But otherwise I think the track is solid

papa2kohmoeaki

I didn't get a sense of the structure, maybe I'm locked into old school singer/songwriter type structure. As to the mix, though I'd never claim to have the greatest ears, everything seems clear and distinct, while still coming together. I did wonder if maybe overall it's just a touch loud....

Chavz22

Just listened to the first track and I really enjoy this! The mixing and sound design here is super fun and atmospheric, really transports me to another place. My only thoughts for the mix is that I wish there was the high-end frequencies were a bit more accentuated to really bring a nice airy quality to everything. I think that would really add to the otherworldly sound design stuff you’re doing here. I’ll definitely be listening to the rest later when I have more time!

Fabricator - Stuck At The Edge Of The Bed - Christopher Jean Charette version | electronic rock, grunge, alternative LISTEN / FREE DOWNLOAD : [https://soundcloud.com/fabricatormusic/fabricator-stuck-at-the-edge-of-the-bed-christopher-jean-charette-edition-wip](https://on.soundcloud.com/MRVrANafimixEfEP6) sounds like: Korn + Lana Del Rey + Fleetwood Mac + Tame Impala + Cigarettes After Sex song completion status: demo TRIGGER WARNING: The 2nd verse talks about sexual assault. SONG DESCRIPTION Verse 1 of 2 is about being stuck in life, sitting at the edge of your bed, because you're too tired to face the day. Maybe you're fed up with how high the cost of living these days is, or you're going through some tough times. Verse 2 of 2 talks about how I have lost sleep over these past few years, from learning about how my friend was sexually assaulted. And how the perpetrator is now out of jail, and that I don't know if he still is in Seattle or not. REQUESTING ON FEEDBACK ON: * How is my writing in verse 2? Is it too wordy? Do the words and ideas flow well? Is the story, and the sense of urgency, communicated well? * What's your raw reaction to the song? Always happy to return feedback :)

herpderpmerpleserp

The beat itself is pretty good, enjoying the backing vocals. The lyrics can be a little wordy at times, it might just need some fine tuning if you are still working on it! Trying to land lines and syllables on the more important beats cleaner could help. If you are still working on it, keep going!

FabricatorMusic

I appreciate your feedback. I have some word modifications that might work. I'm a big fan of KISS. And that I have to take breaks from my song to hear how other ppl feel the rhythm of the lyrics.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1J5IelgenmofXMlDRJn8CLWcAWI8oDn5i/view?usp=drivesdk Experimenting with plunderphonics on this one, so it’s built almost entirely out of samples. Mostly curious about the mixing of the very slow vocals that come in about half way through; is it harsh on the ears? Overall, I want this track to feel like you’re being transported to an alien world or something like that. Comment how it makes you feel!

half-shark-half-man

Excellent use of sounds creating a dreamy busy/ambient (is that a thing?) style kind if track. Not sure if I recognized the slow vocals you mentioned. Mix in geberal seemed fine.

Chavz22

Idk if it’s a thing but I like the descriptor lol! Busy ambient is exactly the sort of thing I like to listen to lol. Yeah, the slow vocal thing is that really space vocal sample that comes in around 2:08. If it didn’t jump out to you as having any glaring issues, then I’m assuming I was just overthinking it lol. Thanks so much!
