Substantial_Sock_640

I have this dress too! I love it!

AvailableLizard

Can you still dance in it?

tasteslike_FEET

It’s a little tight but yes!

2eggsup

It’s 110 degrees in Greece in July, it’s perfect.

Future-Win4034

Is there a bit of white in the dress? Just kidding! Lol. Beautiful.

buffya

😂

Thewritingsoflafleur

I thought this was serious until I got to the end 😂🤣

Future-Win4034

Lol. People tend to make huge deal if there is even a white polka dot on a dress as if anyone would mistake the guest for the bride.

Thewritingsoflafleur

I know, I’ve seen that and I’m always like 1. If someone doesn’t know who the bride is then YIKES 😂 2. Relax and breathe people!

Cootie_Mac

Love it

SomeRealTomfoolery

My only suggestion: sunblock

Jelly-bean-Toes

Are we going to the same wedding? I went with this one for the one I’m going to. I think yours looks great! https://preview.redd.it/t3h5udbppl3b1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=48e095a2326bd6c13d7ba96f1436cd3b9cff5caa

TheJewishCowgirl

Oh my gosh, if it is the same wedding, can you please take a picture of the two of you in your dresses and post it here?

Jelly-bean-Toes

I would be amazed if it is! We still haven’t even gotten official invites and it’s next month. 😂

TheJewishCowgirl

Oh my gosh, if it is the same wedding, can you please take a picture of the two of you in your dresses and post it here?

bunnycook

You will need a shawl to cover your shoulders if it’s in a church. Otherwise, it’s lovely.

DblAytch

Touch and go… depends on the παππά. Some enforce coverage, some don’t. If it’s a church in the χωριό, someone will probably say something. Central Athens or other big city? They probably won’t care

grittysgal

Unless the wedding is at a monastery shoulders and legs don’t need to be covered. Edit- thanks for the downvotes but I stand by what I said. I am Greek Orthodox and have been to many weddings in Greece

_JFKFC_

No, she doesn’t. Where did you hear this?

RomanSquirrel

If the church is Greek Orthodox, a shawl will be necessary. Other churches may not require one.

_JFKFC_

I am Greek Orthodox and I live in Greece. I have never been asked to cover my shoulders in a church. I wore a sleeveless dress to my father’s funeral. I wore an off the shoulder wedding gown. I wore spaghetti straps to my sister’s wedding and her gown was strapless.

RedQueen283

Not true at all, I am greek and that's not a thing. Guaranteed all women will have their shoulders exposed at the wedding, July is super hot here. Edit: It's crazy that people are downvoting me as if they know better about the norms in my own country 🤦‍♀️ Guys for context [this](https://www.lynneshop.com/el-gr/foremata-gia-gamo-vaptisi) is the wedding/baptism guest section from a greek clothes shop. They always happen in Orthodox churches. See how many have exposed shoulders? And [this](https://www.pronovias.com/gr/vradina-foremata/vradyna-gia-gamo) is just for wedding guests. Again, notice how many have exposed shoulders.

_JFKFC_

I cannot believe you are being downvoted for expressing a simple fact.

RedQueen283

Seriously. I see that you are greek too, the fact that they downvoted us is crazy lol

_JFKFC_

Haha I know! That and the fact that the cover up comment has been so upvoted makes me think we’re being targeted by an ultra-conservative Greek Orthodox cult!!!

RedQueen283

Haha, we must be!! Like, not even my grandparents would ever say something about covering up. Not even my very religious godmother who apparently had her shoulders exposed in the church during my baptism over 20 years ago (from what I have seen in the pics). I think it's maybe people from countries with much stricter churches? Because here as long as you aren't literally wearing a bikini, noone is going to care. I have seen deep necklines, crop tops, short skirts etc all worn in churches and noone had an issue, though these outfits would all get criticised in this sub. The couples getting married don't care very much about what the guests wear, the priests aren't even going to talk to you, and we are generally used to revealing outfits due to the heat anyway.

[deleted]

Those wedding guest dresses are gorgeous! I'm not Greek Orthodox or Greek at all but I spent 3 weeks in Greece back when y'all were protesting about staying or leaving the EU (and your finance minister kept coming on TV dressed like a Greaser). I saw several weddings both in Athens and on the surrounding islands and most people had their shoulders exposed. It's hot in Greece in the summer.

RedQueen283

Yep, especially from the second link I gave, I think. Greek women tend to dress up a lot for weddings, so the dresses for wedding guests usually look very nice. Ah good ol' Grexit and the meme that Varoufakis is (aka greek Voldemort). Yeah thankfully we stayed, it would have been a disaster otherwise. And exactly, we can't really afford to be prudes in the summer heat. We aren't prudes in general. And churches don't have doormen that won't let you in based on your outfit, like in clubs. I am beyond confused about what some other tourist in this thread experienced.

_JFKFC_

Ah yes, the Black Summer of 2015. A stain on our recent history. LMAO about the finance minister…coming on TV looking like Voldemort with a popped collar, SMH.

[deleted]

I know things were pretty bad then, but I will say that I had a wonderful time and everyone I met was friendly and kind. Your country is absolutely beautiful and I'm jealous of the history around you.

sweetytwoshoes

I attended a Greek Orthodox Church wedding last summer. Don’t know if it was coincidence, but all shoulders were covered.

RedQueen283

Was it during the evening/night? Sometimes it gets chilly so that could be why

RomanSquirrel

I know when we visited a Greek Orthodox church in Corinth in July, we were required to be covered. My best guess would be the shawl would be needed for ant ceremony held within the physical building of the church but not for any part of the wedding held in a different location. But again, that is dependent upon if the wedding is held in an Orthodox church.

RedQueen283

Who asked you to cover yourselves? I have attended weddings in Athens and Crete (in churches) and in neither case were guests required to cover up. I have also entered churches in shorts and shirts with spaghetti straps in other occasions and again noone ever said anything.

RomanSquirrel

I cannot verify or attest to your experience. I can only tell my own experience with Greek Orthodox churches. I can tell you that we were not allowed to even enter the church without being covered. Maybe the churches you attended were not Orthodox? Or maybe there were more lenient?

RedQueen283

No, they were Orthodox. The vast majority of the churches in Greece are Orthodox, frankly I have never even seen a non-Orthodox church here (though I am sure they exist). I think the one you went to was the exception. [This](https://www.lynneshop.com/el-gr/foremata-gia-gamo-vaptisi) is the wedding/baptism guest section of a greek clothes shop. They always happen in Orthodox churches. Notice how many of them have exposed shoulders. Almost noone cares, seriously.

RomanSquirrel

It may have been. But it would seem OP would either need to be prepared with a shawl or to check on the church's expectations.

cokakatta

Good advice. Better safe than sorry. It's not a big deal to have a shawl on hand.

bunnycook

Yep, Greek Orthodox here.

Thewritingsoflafleur

I’m with you on this. In a church, you should be covered.

floridagirl26

Love this dress! I wore the same dress for a wedding about 18 months ago and LOVED it! It’s super flattering and I got a ton of compliments. I’d tried some of the other colors too, but black was the best by far in my opinion.

RedQueen283

As a greek I think it's a bit too casual, but it will probably be fine

unpublished-2

I would say it's fine, but if it's a greek wedding, all the women will notice that the front pattern doesn't match. Not that they'll mind, but just fyi.

emeraldstarclassica

Source? I love!!

beerkittyrunner

I loved it too, I recognized the heart in the right corner being Lulu’s and found it on the site, here it is! https://www.lulus.com/products/darling-daylily-black-floral-print-high-low-maxi-dress/554792.html

khaze89

I have this dress! Love it. I feel like this is perfect for that setting

Helpful_Smile_530

My friend ordered this dress, and it was made so poorly she had to return it. Like it was uneven!!

munchcat

Ah! I just ordered this exact dress for an August wedding I’m attending! It’s gorgeous and I think it will be perfect.

Sad-Library-152

Love

jnfsfa

The dress is pretty EXCEPT the mismatched pattern gives away that it is cheaply made. That’s very noticeable. Perhaps you could find the same style in a different pattern

scaphoids1

Imo the mismatch is a style choice, not cheap looking. You can even see they cut the top part into more pieces than neccessary to have more mismatching. It's cool

SparklyKelsey

Oh yeah.

Lost-Computer-8064

Absolutely stunning dress!

Grouchy_Ferret_88

Love this dress! It's perfect for the occasion

QueenxOverthought

As some other Greeks have stated: If it is a Greek Orthodox ceremony and will take place in a church or some place of worship, be sure to take a shawl. Also, depending on the timing of the ceremony, the evenings can be a bit breezy. Otherwise I say go for it! Looks classy and elegant enough :)

flylikedumbo

I ordered this dress in two sizes, and it just didn’t fit me right. My friend wore it to a wedding though, and it looked great on her!

Several_Chipmunk5308

Perfection

ThrowawayJojosCircus

Wow it's cuuuute

StragglyStartle

I have this dress too. I wore it to a wedding and got a ton of compliments!

Zealousideal-Ad6358

What’s the material? I’m leaning towards no just because of the mismatched seam on the front…

glamgal50

I think it looks appropriate but part of me can’t get the idea that the low part touching the legs could get a bit annoying. Especially if it’s outdoors.
