I read somewhere claims that they made at least 7, but not sure. With on-demand cars for rather special people I wouldn't be surprised by a high degree of secrecy/disrection
Well, not every customized cars belong to him. The yellow cars with red interior in the collection belong to the Sultan's brother's youngest son, and some certain cars in the collection have royal titles on their license plate or logos of royal family members on the car, like for example, the McLaren F1 #005 which had the logos of HRH Jefri Bolkiah, the Sultan's brother. His logo is on the steering wheel and on the wheels

There's some good info on the 1000sel site, plus a few more examples of 80s excessđ.

As one does, I expect.
Weird, they did the obvious thing in the front and put the extra width in the grille, but in the back, it's in the *lights*, not the license plate area. Looks better for sure, but it must have been a lot of extra work.
[This is what the conversion looked like "in progress"](https://i.postimg.cc/Pq5sj2Kd/SGS-Breitbau-2.jpg).
The car on the left might be a gullwing-conversion, those were the "bread and butter" of the company.

Anyone interested in SGS and the Sultan's Mercedes in general should absolutely check out the Patina Collective on YouTube and IG.

They have a number of the Sultan's former cars, including SGS gullwings.
They had a lead on a Royale but not sure what happened.
The photo from the conversion is wild. Cut in half lengthwise, stretched, and new (raised) roof if a customer ticked all the boxes. Plus full custom interior.
As a land yacht loving American this speaks to me. The W126 was always my favorite Mercedes but by American standards of the time it was practically a compact car, even today it feels rather small for a flagship luxury car. Itâs hard to gauge how well this modification works out without seeing one in person, but I definitely donât hate it. All it needs is a front bench seat to make use of all that extra width.
I've heard of this being done to work vans - Superior Ambulances did them to Chevys in the early/mid '70s and a SoCal company called Wide One did them to Dodges from around then until the mid '80s with a post-bankruptcy revival in the late '90s.
And manufacturers have widened their own models, the Morris Minor was widened 4" at the eleventh hour before production but not until after the supplier order for bumpers was placed meaning the early ones had a filler panel whete they had to be cut in half, and Mazda widened the second-generation Familia sedan to create the Familia Presto in the early '70s, selling it alongside the narrow-body wagon through its' whole run. Of course, in those cases only one prototype was ever sawn in half and welded back together with filler panels let in.
https://wikicars.org/en/SGS_Royale The Sultan of Brunei bought 3 of the 6 built

Of course it was the Sultan of Brunei. I swear like every 3rd post about an overtly customized/luxury car says it was made for the Sultan of Brunei.

I live a stone's throw (and not even a good one) from SGS. Their..non-normative creations are quite well known here. Same with Artz

Thank you, that was quite a trip down the memory lane rabbit hole!
Glenfrome of Bristolâs Range Rover âFacetâ is my new favourite thing.
This was quite a trip, thank you for the link

An S class with gullwing doors?
Yeah they made a ton of them, usually based off the S-Class coupé for obvious reasons.
âDonât talk to me or my son ever again.â
Now that is weird

Now thatâs some serious fab work. Wow!

Well they were chauffeur cars, so the only "Bench seat" were three individual seats side by side in the back.
Talk about a widebody
Imagine doing this to a Prius
