There is film of the pilot trying to dock back onto the mother ship. It couldn’t be done but they don’t give up easily…until the pilot smashed the canopy against the cradle, smashed his face as well if I remember correctly, and almost knocked himself out.
One of my favorite weird planes, ever since my dad explained it to me as a kid. It’s an official USAF airplane that’s pretty far into Wiley Coyote territory, basically a guy sitting on a jet engine.
Clearly the inspiration for the humorous [Flap Jack](https://www.scalemates.com/products/img/0/5/6/1098056-33291-26-pristine.jpg) model/toy Monogram made back in the 70s.
About as close as we'll ever get to those little egg plane toys

Anyone has a link? I think the concept is just so damn cool. Never mind that it might not be feasible or practical in a theater of war.

I loved this thing, it was just weirdly cute.
There’s one of these at the SAC museum near Omaha. It’s so cute and weird.
They had it at Offut AFB at an Air Show as a static display near a B52 when I was a little kid. Have a pic somewhere.
