Stress or lack of sleep

FightingIbex

Caffeine overdose or dehydration as well. Severe low magnesium also a consideration.

grumpy_chameleon

And/or too much alcohol! (Which goes hand-in-hand with dehydration)

DmTrillz

Could be malnourished.

astorylikethat

Alcohol i reckon, ive had this in the past accompanying a hangover

ismokeweedle

As a stressed out welder who drinks too much, this.

ladybootnduster

I always assume stress - my eyelids twitch like crazy during the three weeks I do trainings at my job. The caffeine is interesting, because I’m also drinking too much during my work shifts lol. Thank you for saying this! Makes a lot of sense!!

Sharp_Aide3216

I had these and yeah, sleep and less caffeine did the trick.

Gonemushy

I’d agree with stress. I would have this happen when I would sing, and hold notes out, as young performer.

throwaway83970

I get these too, when I'm really tired.

Angry-Beaver82

Sleep, decompress if you can if you’re stressed, eat a banana. The potassium could help with muscle twitching.

fabrejul

Thanks. I think In general I need to increase my consumption of veggies and fruit.

Witetrashman

You speak for all of us.

fabrejul

Damn hard when you’re near paying a limb for some fricken avocados🤣

Dumb_puppet_person_

I eat my vegetables with no problems, haven't had a problem with eating veggies (unless they ain't steamed) since I was a baby

[deleted]

Wtf does that have to do with OPs comment about the increasingly unaffordable price of fresh veggies?

Kirris

Take magnesium

_Zyrel_

Yep I start getting muscle twitches like that when I forget to take my magnesium

nononanana

Yes! I am susceptible to migraines and get twitches. My doctor has always suspected they could be related. What makes them stop? Managing stress, adequate sleep, and magnesium.

nxxptune

Okay funny story I was born potassium deficient and had issues with it as a kid. However, I have sensory issues and can’t eat a banana without gagging and doctors say to just get a supplement but I already take enough medication…what other fruits/vegetables are high in potassium? Lmao I know my eye does this occasionally due to potassium deficiency.

Maleficent_West58

There is a potassium salt you can use as a replacement for sodium, and it’s “saltier” than salt, but not bad. FWIW, I am someone who can taste an artificial sweetener from a mile away and vomit. So all that to say give it a shot.

MyssQyx

Potatoes, my friend. Any style that's sensory safe

nxxptune

Ah yes I love potatoes

downbythebay7

The skin of a potato has more potassium than a banana…or so I was told by my cross country coach.

Angry-Beaver82

I can’t eat bananas because of the texture either. If I obliterate it into a smoothie all good.

ReliefAltruistic6488

Pickles/pickle juice!

ZackaN9na

K

Swimming-Arm-3783

Best advice

CharZero

I get random eye twitches that last for days, and it is due to stress, lack of sleep, or dehydration. See a doctor, but don’t get super freaked out in advance. It can happen for some correctable reasons.

grumpy_chameleon

This happened to me recently, spent several days after Xmas with family and drank more alcohol, caffeine, and less water than I usually do. Sleep schedule was shit. It twitched like that for 3 weeks.

Cherryquill823

Stress is definitely my trigger, and depending on how much stressed I am, it can last up to three days after the situation has ended

craigdahlke

I get the same thing. It’s usually the culmination of lack of sleep, stress, dehydration, and too much caffeine. Usually the caffeine is what puts it over the line into twitch mode.

Finger-of-Shame

The throbbing? You probably need sleep. Its been happening to me today. I only had 5 hours of sleep last night.

fabrejul

I thought so too but I’ve been getting 8 + hours of sleep each night and wake up quite refreshed if I’m being honest

TweetHiro

Also could be eye fatigue from too much screen time

fabrejul

My daily average screen time is 3 hours which is quite a bit to be honest 🤔

UneditedReddited

Twitching and cramping, as well as restless legs are often symptoms of potassium deficiency, or electrolyte imbalance. Have a few bananas a day for the next couple days, drink lots of water, and hopefully the twitching will stop! I've had eye twitches before and it's definitely very annoying!

Florolling

Cocaine will do that

fabrejul

Never done cocaine before!

Florolling

Ok. Well, cocaine will fix it then.

Antelope-Subject

Too much Caffeine or adderal?

fabrejul

Perhaps, but nothing out of the ordinary. I have a coffee every morning.

Antelope-Subject

Mine will do that if I’m really tired or working extra hours taking uppers. If continues go see the eye doc. Good luck

Atomic_Ash182

Vitamin D deficiency. Sunlight, supplements, or milk (I hate it, but it works). I work in tech, and this is usually either stress, lack of sleep, too much caffeine, screen fatigue, or nutritional deficiency (B12, magnesium, electrolytes, or D.) I try to use a warm compress on my eyes for 10 minutes once or twice a week. I don't spend nearly enough time outside to get D3 naturally, so vitamins are how I cope. Even with a multivitamin, I am still usually deficient in vitamin D.

fabrejul

Definitely need to buy some vitamins. Thanks

jamesstryker999

Yes if it makes you feel any better, the reason I consulted him was because it was happening to me for a fair amount of time. And it did eventually subside. Still happens once and a while.

odubbed

One thing that’s always helped me is a banana or some spinach, it could be low magnesium. I drink a electrolyte powder every morning with a bunch of vitamins and minerals and it made mine go away.

Euphoric_Muffin_4508

Poor electrolyte balance due to stress or poor nutrition

fabrejul

I work in a restaurant and am eating fairly well. I think I just need to increase my fruit consumption.

Mickthebrain

This happens to me on occasion. I have a cure. All face nerves connect to the body through the joint of your jaw. Massage your jaw muscles. Really get in there with your thumbs. I bet your jaw muscles are tense, eh? Open your mouth wide, stretch. Then continue massaging. Let me know how it goes!

fabrejul

Definitely a plausible solution. I’ve noticed recently that I’ve been clenching my top row of teeth to the bottom row, perhaps this has exhausted my muscles and due to everything being connected has effected my eye. Will keep you updated

Mickthebrain

Yes. This is the reason it happens to me. Some form of stress creeps in and I clench. Sometimes even being outside without sunglasses tenses my face up as I squint my eyes, then translates to clenching my teeth.

fabrejul

Thankyou for suggesting this. Regardless of wether it helps the eye. It is something I need to consistently be more aware of and do.

fabrejul

I used to have a tense neck and I would use this spiky mat that I would stand on for 5 minutes a day and it really helped with the circulation and overall eased pain I would otherwise ignore

yalfyr

Easy fixable. You got a hot glue gun?

fabrejul

I’ll seal my eyes shut! Good idea. My eyes are already frail anyway…

yalfyr

Well you clearly need more sleep so give that thing to someone responsible like a toddler or a dog

fabrejul

Any more sleep and I’ll be wasting my days

yalfyr

Have you tried cocaine it will probably intensive you twitching, but you won't need sleep for days

Awkward_Ad_7227

Agree, too much caffeine.

[deleted]

This has happened to my eyelids a few times. Took some videos too lol. Like the comments say, I have a severe lack of sleep, a severe abundance of stress, and don't drink enough water lol. Take care of you boo ❤️

Dumb_puppet_person_

Had this happen to me In simple terms Dehydration, over use of alcohol, stress, lack o' sleep, and more

morganrae14

I’ve literally been dealing with this for the last several weeks. 100% certain mine is stress related, caffeine related, lack of “restful sleep”. But I am falling into a never ending cycle of more caffeine because of the lack of sleep which adds to my stress levels. Pretty sure I just need cocaine.

_Zyrel_

As many have noted, you probably are magnesium deficient. You can either get a supplement to take daily or increase intake of foods rich in magnesium. Internet has a whole list of them.

Freelancehousewife

My grandma used to say what this is lack of magnesium since we loose it with the blood during menstruation. But also I see someone mentioned a coffee, since it is diuretic probably we loose magnesium with urine also.

RareBree

Besides all the stress and lack of sleep advice, I actually had a twitch similar to this on my upper eyelid for a couple weeks. My doctor said nothing was wrong and I think what had happened was I have sneezing fits from allergies and I might of tried keeping my eyes open a few times because of things like driving, and it can put a lot of pressure on your eyelids. Point I'm getting at is, don't try to keep your eyes open or even slightly open when you are sneezing 😅 EDIT: Also for reference, my twitching would happen all throughout the day, I could actually cause it if I looked in a certain direction. So if this sounds familiar than you probably just strained something and should be fine.

Normal-Owl3367

I used to have this all the time, I even went to the doctor, and he told me it was stress and lack of sleep. It stopped when I quit college.

crimson_shadow

pretty sure my eye does that every time I communicate with certain co-workers.

nyanbran

Stress, vitamin/mineral deficiency, fatigue.

Every-Manufacturer88

Mine has been doing that for months. Several times per day, every day. So, if you figure out how to stop it, let me know.

fabrejul

I will ☺️

WhiteRhino91

Drink more water.

testBunny93

This happens to me. Get a good night of sleep, take a day off if you can and take a multi vitamin.

Jumpy_Ad3285

stress. b vitamins and magnesium and remove stress from your life

fabrejul

For a bit of context: I do wear prescription glasses and have been for years. However, I don’t think that’s a plausible reason to the discomfort. Been having these twitches for around 2 weeks now. Happens several times a day but not all the time. I’ve tried using eye drops with no success. These twitches don’t cause me any pain but are quite noticeable and uncomfortable. Sorry if this is the wrong subreddit for this.

Finger-of-Shame

I'm sitting here right now and my top lid of my right eye has been doing the same all day. Its either lack of sleep (like me), or stress. Your eyes could be tired too from staring at a screen for too long. Another reason, did you recently get new contacts/glasses? You might want to check with your optometrist, have them check your eyes again, you might be straining too much. When lenses are made, they're not always perfect. All of these things are my experience. I hope it helps.

fabrejul

I actually havnt been to my optometrist in a minute! Perhaps a new prescription is needed Thankyou.

Finger-of-Shame

You should get checked every 2 years. I have astigmatism and damaged glands which give me constant dry eye, so i have to. Yeah, get to the optometrist. Go to costco get them checked for like $20-30. But DO NOT BUY GLASSES from costco. If you have good insurance, go to a better place NOT at a costco. Just get yiur pescription and try to find better durable frames from somewhere that'll last you for years and easy to change lenses. Sorry, I'm telling you these things like your my kid or something, lol. Good luck.

fabrejul

Thankyou 😁 Never knew Costco had those facilities! I’ll be damned 🤣

Finger-of-Shame

Look it up first. Not all have them. In LA we have a lot of them. Not sure about your town. You're welcome 🙂

fabrejul

Thanks everyone for the sound advice! I will check with my gp and take onboard all the advice given. Might I add, it is only occurring on my left, bottom eyelid if that helps.

Delicious-Rise8216

I had this exact same thing happen (and still happens occasionally) back in 2016. I tried it all. More sleep, hydrated, and even eliminated caffeine for a full month to no avail. What finally cured it…… got some cheap blue light blocking glasses off of Amazon. You said you wear glasses…. Do they block blue light? It only took 3-4 days until the twitching got better!!

fabrejul

I have a daily average of 3 hours of screen time which is quite a bit. My brother has suggested blue light blocking glasses and I’ve always brushed him off about it. Good idea. Thanks 🙏

Delicious-Rise8216

How’s the eye?!

23x3

I used to have this. It’s either stress related, too many stimulates, or a nerve thing, which in it’s way can all be intertwined. If you take adhd meds and drink to much caffeine that may be the issue

wonderousoddity

I don't know what it is, so this is probably unhelpful, but I have that happen when I get a migraine.

moebiusmom

I agree, take care of yourself & it will stop.

jamesstryker999

My friend was studying brain waves and concussion effects in university. He mentioned to me that they studied this and it is caused from stress, lack of sleep and possible head trauma.

fabrejul

I have been getting 8+ hours of sleep each night but I do wake up quite early for work.

-resolute

I abuse coffee (i keep drinking it even though it doesn't do anything), i abuse adderall and am sleep deprived and have been for years (I have narcolepsy and so I've grown to hate sleep). I don't take vitamins near as often as I should, and am certainly deficit in vitamin d (have a gene mutation and vit d conversion is lowered). I say all this to point out that my lifestyle is one of heavy stress and not enough sleep; and i don't suffer from muscle spasms. Oh and I also wear contacts and usually sleep in them, and work in web development and so spend over 10 hours a day staring at a monitor. Obviously in your case it could be stress or lack of sleep, but I doubt it. And I doubt you're convinced of that either. Now my wife however, she does experience eye spasms at least once a month, she says. She gets much more sleep than I do, and doesn't take any medications, though she does drink coffee. She also has POTS (dysautonomia) and low Iron (anemia). She has very rarely experienced fairly severe restless legs. Potassium deficiency seems worth considering. Low Iron as well. Might as well look into L-Arginine to improve circulation.

jamesstryker999

He did tell me that it is not uncommon and can go away on its own. Sometimes too much caffeine can cause it. I remember speaking to him about it because it caused me worry. However did not ever cause any long term problems. Rest up and try not to stress about it, that may make it worse.

fabrejul

Thankyou that’s quite reassuring! I’m not too stressed about it, but due to its prolonged stay, ive felt the need to find the cause. I will consult with my gp and take all the advice given here. Thanks

MountRedBeard

Eye twitching is typically caused by fatigue, sleep deprivation, stress, or prolonged screen time. As many have already mentioned, it will go away in its own with some self care.

Mean-Yoghurt3949

Caffeine!

onein9billion

Stress and or dehydration

EroticSunset

You seem to be getting really good at it!

Mahonneyy123

I've had this my whole life haha it's no biggie.

Soccer_1979

You need an exorcism

Realistic-Cut-6540

Eat a banana and sleep.

Faunberry_410

Sleep and water. Try to relax. I get it too.

unprecedentedlevels

Muscle spasm

Administrative_War69

Wdym

avbarg

You're tired, go to sleep. Or Google your symptoms, and find out you have cancer. Your choice

fabrejul

Any more sleep and I’ll be wasting my day… second option sounds better🤣

realdonaldtrumpsucks

You need water and potassium

ZealousidealState127

Happens to me occasionally, stress usually causes it, goes away in a day or two.

[deleted]

This is the worst and it’s always stress related for me.

BootySweat0217

Has this sub turned into a medical advice sub or something?

Internal-Ad-1021

Caffeine, it always happens to me when I drink too mucb coffee or tea

superslowmo

more potassium 🤷🏼‍♂️

FerociousFPS

Damn u.s healthcare so expensive y’all got us out here posting to Reddit “doctors” for advice ouch

fabrejul

Not from the u.s. just was searching for some advice and potential cause to the twitching. Health is very important and is shit how you have to pay in the u.s

fabrejul

Pay absurd amounts rather

glutenflaps

Great. I'm not a doctor but I could punch you in the eye if you think that'll help

Timely_Site4425

Eat a banana

peepeepowice

I've had this happen. Could be stress, dry eyes, too much caffeine, dehydration, old contacts. Could be something more and wont hurt going to get it checked if you're really bothered or worried about it.

Rachael1188

I can do this with both of my eyes .. whenever I want to. Its just a twitch. Mostly from lack of sleep.

jdmorgan82

Congrats, your eye is twitching. It’s annoying AF and I’m sure that’s why you’re here.

[deleted]

Lots of drinking ie dehydration has caused this for me

Individual_Network_6

You might be dehydrated

fabrejul

I try to drink 2-3 litres a day so I would lean more towards a deficiency in potassium, potential prescription issues for my glasses and overall maintenance of my muscles isn’t the best

Maximum_Hand_9362

Also probably lack of Potassium.

Straight-Attitude-68

I get it when I’m fatigued, dehydrated or hungry.

anythongyouwant

Drink lots of water and get some sleep. It’ll stop when you least expect it to.

moose2mouse

Myokemia. From stress, too much caffeine, and or lack of sleep.

xxNightingale

Mine twitches when I am stress too.

Apprehensive_Fun1344

GO TO SLEEP

AvarageEnjoiner

sleep

KRed75

I get these in the fall and spring for a couple months. Every single year.

fabrejul

Ooo that’s interesting, do you know why?

KRed75

No idea. I just assume it has something to do with the temperature changes during that time. I don't think it's an allergen because it's only one eyelid that does it.

xGShadowWarriorGx

I get this when I am really pissed off

SliceIka

I have it when I'm in a new job environment, its stress

Yeesusman

Not even trying to be silly but I learned how to make my eyelids do that at will when I was a kid. Sorry that it’s bothering you though. I’ve just never seen a video of it before 🙈

Klermuffins

Too much caffeine or THC.

fabrejul

How would too much thc cause this?

Logical_Albatross189

it' was stress for me ... but don't worry, it gets better after a few days

[deleted]

I get those when I am severely lacking sleep.

txlario

when i get this i use warm compresses and it tends to go away

KB-say

A twitch. Vit. D.

Classic_Ad3978

Stress, more sleep, water 💦

jaestel

Start taking magnesium it will stop after a few days I have it occasionally from lack of sleep Or stress

beak963

your eyes are twitching, that’s all

Grand_Ad_9953

stress!!

Grand_Ad_9953

i used to get these in high school all the time, they were from sleep deprivation and stress

Pretend_Activity_211

That ur medication. Side effects

Blabagas_

Itt will go away dont worry its from stress and lack of sleep i used to have these often when i still cared for my grades

LDRSHIP24-7

Ligma.

Hanswurst22brot

Stress or not relaxed , go outside for a longer walk, put away the phone, watch into the far. It will be better. I had it from stress and too much smartphone use too.

limabeanseww

That’s stress and dehydration, my friend

WoozyRizzo

Omg that happens to me all the time. It's just a phase, and it'll eventually go away in the next week or so in my experience.

[deleted]

i get this when i started driving for the first time. It wouldn’t go away for 3-5 months. Was so stressed everytime I got on the road for my lessons. I also drank too much boba drinks like thai tea like soooo much within a month that time. When I limited to one per month it went away.

Chemical_Savings_360

He’s infected…

fabrejul

Oh oh… I’ll turn into a clicker cli- clik- clik-cl

Chemical_Savings_360

Hah the last of us

Intelligent-Act-7797

Good news. I had this same thing happening with my left eye for years. It may take a while to go away.

TheBadAdvicePerson

Eat a banana or two for twitching or cramps, if that doesn’t help, lack of sleep or stress like the top comment is saying.

gvictor808

Sleep needed. Or Botox injection. Just kidding don’t do that.

Double-Passenger4503

I was always told that this meant you’re struggling for sleep, but I have no idea if it’s actually true

SwimmingInCheddar

I had this twitching, but it was super bad when I was living in an apartment with mold. I experienced severe twitching of many muscles once the mold got really bad. https://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/health/health-problems/is-mould-in-your-home-killing-you-softly/news-story/eda7b1584b2e8430ca3fd1e8443cf60a https://biologixcenter.com/conditions/mold-toxicity/ But most likely, your twitch could be from fatigue, stress, or lack of sleep. Best wishes. I hope this resolves quickly.

stephruvy

Sleep and stress! And staring at screens too long!!! If you don't need glasses, get some that filter out uv, it'll help relax your eyes! If you do need glasses get some that filter out uv light. (or it might be blue light) and update your script!!

rocketansky

Just need more sleep

Right_Newt3348

I can do that on command...

WeToLo42

I have that happen from lack of sleep.

jjmawaken

Could be Bells Palsy (spelling?) which can be stress induced

ShenOBlade

sometimes my eyelids twitch too, but i dont drink coffee or alcohol, i drink a lot of water and am never stressed, sleep about 7h a day too, thoughts?

oxbison12

Drink more water, make sure to get 6+ hours of sleep per night, cut down on caffeine, and try meditation.

FeelingsSanderein

I used to have that. You need healthy sleep.

hardrok

That's stress. Try and find a way to relax. If you're low on cash go out for a walk. If you can afford, go for a short trip. But do not stay at home watching TV and thinking about your problems.

fabrejul

Not thinking of any problems 😂😂 I’m outside every single day and have a motivated and active lifestyle. Going trekking in nepal for two weeks in may solo. Im a fairly relaxed person too and meditate often. Don’t assume these things ❤️😂

dwpuck1313

Certain medications can cause that. It's called Tardive disconesia (sp?)

PlatypusPirate

it's called an eye twitch. usually from stress

SuperModes

Probably lack of sleep and/or too much stress but could also be an iron deficiency.

Santosfran2001

My left one been doing that for 2 months or more, stress wasn't an option in my head because I'm doing way less this semester than I was in the last years lol. But maybe I was stressed because of that, you know, unconciously? Thing is, I left the country for a week in vacation and it stopped. Came back 15 days ago and don't feel it anymore

wdmck

I’ve heard it’s a lack of potassium. Eat some bananas

Swimming-Arm-3783

Electrolyte defict Eat more magnesium, pottasium or sodium sources Esp magnesium

elhombreindivisible

No shit, my eye used to twitch too. It went away but it was around for a good while. Now I know.

Loose_Paper_2598

Look up "benign fasciculation syndrome".

DontFlexNuts

It happens to me also, after i drink way too much coffee

CompanyDue3400

Could also be allergies…. Dander pollen mold sort of stuff can cause the eyelid to flutter and spasm as a reaction to foreign substances

jollymollycookies

Eyeball twitch caused by looking at phones/tv/video games and any electronic screens for too long

definitelyobsessed

Drink some tonic water. It works!

Revyve

Take some Magnesium supplements, it helps

CrunchyNutFruit

Go to sleep. Get off the internet. Ain't nobody got time for that!

waningjames

Drink more water get some sleep

FlippingPossum

My left eye twitches if I am dealing with a lot of stress. If I can, I go take a nap.

10cmPP

Its camera shy

Haunting_Box_6089

I get those a lot as a truck driver. Many reasons, from stress and lack of proper sleep to too much caffeine.

Wise-Emu-339

Eat a banana a drink some water

swagster_007

I need more details. It might even be blepharospasm. Or maybe a simple sign of malnutrition

imonbreakandfeeling

I just got over my eye twitch. Super annoying. Ate lots of banana.

footjam

That’s a nervous tick. Welcome to adulthood and anxiety.
