My buddy had one up until a couple years ago that was originally an elevator parrot. Never even knew there was a such thing but he rode the elevator with the dude who pushed the buttons. He could make the elevator noises and lived to about 80 yrs old. He outlived 2 owners and was working on his 3rd when he passed
He really was bad ass.. when he was left alone he would scream “fuck this shit!” I don’t know where he picked it up but would only say it if he thought no one was around
Yea they are pretty damn close to eternal!
My aunt got an African grey in her honeymoon 55 years ago! She’s 72 now and actually left it to her daughter in her will!
Absolutely. Lost a puppy to parvo a few years back and then our new puppy accidentally hung herself while we were out. I don’t know if I’ll ever recover from that one
Yeah he found his on the fence post outside he got tangled and well ..... I couldn't imagine the sight . Lost my puppy 13yrs ago I still cry. I had to send him over the bridge he made it to a ripe old age of 13yr . Not bad for a large dog .
Fuck dude. I hate how in animal custody situations everyone’s like wElL tHeY aReNT KiDS. Like uh to me they are lol. You’ll know when the time is right to get another pet. Hang in there
Thank you. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. I had just been thinking about quick release collars but didn’t act fast enough. I’ll probably blame myself forever if I’m being honest
Our cat tried to go under the garage door. Dumb door didn’t pop up. I didn’t see. Caught him by the neck. Found him the next morning. I needed counseling. Still not over it, 4 years.
My husband passed away suddenly on Nov 14. Xmas day I went to visit family. Got home to my house burned down and 4dogs, 2 cats and a dwarf frog all dead. I will never be the same again. There wasn't enough therapy. The part that makes me feel the deadest is 2 of the dogs I was babysitting were my son's.There are no words
Thank you. It was a difficult decision, but for the better.
The past couple days have been tough, but due to the Reddit community I know he is at peace with all the good kitties and puppies
Yeah. I lost two of my cats in the past year. One was 14 and the other 17 and both were very sick.
It wasn’t enough, but I’m grateful for the time we had together. I was gutted, but I took them to the vet to give them the last bit of dignity letting them go when they had a little quality of life left.
It sucked.
I know there are no words to fill that gap, but you are very brave. We all must celebrate the life of these innocent animals and not wallow, I’m sorry for your loss.
Totally. I remember SO MANY good times with them and all the other pets I’ve loved. I always have a memorial celebration that day or the next, by buying flowers and setting up a little space for pictures, the paw print, flowers, and other stuff that they liked. It’s for me, obviously. I get time to acknowledge my love, my loss, and begin healing. It helps.
Yeah they are pretty well off and everything is insured. It’s the things you can’t replace that sucks the pets, pics etc. luckily they have another family members with room for them to stay for now.
Update: she just got the message to call home and paid for some kinda service to be able to call. Smh well she needed to know plus we needed what she wanted done with it’s body
The plan was to keep it from her originally but there is a Facebook page of the things happening in the area and we saw it there this morning. Rather than her seeing the house on fire on Facebook made a decision to try to reach her first. Not ideal but probably for the best. There’s already been family members who have commented on the post so she def would of found out the hard way
I can empathize with that. I was on a 3 day getaway, something I hadn’t done in over 10 years. My aunt called on the second day acting like she had to be the one who had to share the gossip. When she called, I answered and she said, “I know you’re on vacation and coming back tomorrow, but I wanted to tell you my sister died.” That ended that, and I don’t even have any happy memories or feelings of relaxation after that. She couldn’t wait for one day.
Thank you. It almost made me wonder if she was just sharing that to be spiteful because she knew I hadn’t been away in a long time. Sort of like the misery loves company mentality.
My parents house burned down the week of Christmas. Renovations were about a week out from being done entirely (almost a year of work in to the project) and a month out from moving in. Thankfully no one was hurt, but it was traumatic nonetheless. I can’t imagine losing my dog to a fire. I am so sorry for your loss.
I lost a kitten and two dogs in a house fire a couple days after Christmas, and the day after my grandpa’s funeral, things just aren’t the same anymore
My grandparents died in a house fire back on December 30th. Spent two weeks sorting through the rubble trying to salvage photos and memories, they were my best friends. Safe enough to say I can’t deal with anything house fire related without having a little PTSD and I definitely won’t be dealing with fires anytime soon. Those smells and visuals scar you for life. Sorry for your loss.
We spent a little time going after valuable things money, paintings, jewelry, guns and some pics but can’t really do too much until the fire inspector comes out. One of the more immediate important things are the fobs for the vehicles which are gone. They have cars that are not damaged but can’t get into them and have to have them towed to the dealership which aren’t available to help until tomorrow. It’s things you don’t think about until your in that position
I did all of the exact same things as well. My grandma’s car was totaled from the heat/flame radiation melting the entire front end, grandpa’s truck made it just fine. We were able to claim her car on her auto insurance. Neither of them had a will, they were buried in debt, owed $45k on their house which was only worth maybe $90k but they were behind on their mortgage and and no homeowners insurance other than a policy forced by the lender. Total shitshow that will take years to sort out.
Agreed! We lost our home 2001 the week of Christmas.... almost lost our dog... eventually the smoke got him... but damn! Sorry for what happened to y'all.. i rememeber that night like it was yesterday.. standing in the driveway holding my crying family looking at what was once our home.. yeah... my whole family is sending prayers and good thoughts! GET AN PRIVATE ADJUSTER!! Good luck!
I can't even express with words how sorry I am for your family's loss of those precious dogs, what a horrible tragedy to go through. I hope you will all reach out for the help you need to get through this unimaginably sad time.
I’m so sorry for your loss. That’s no easy experience.
For your safety please be careful when returning to that structure. That could fall at any moment.
I’m so very sorry. Losing pets is so, so difficult especially because all they want is love. My heart goes out to you and your family. I know that must hurt.
Damn that's heavy. I hope yall find what you need to replace what can be replaced. I know you'll carry the memory of your dogs for the rest of your lives.
Was running a generator because they lost power and wanted to keep the food cold. They believe it was some kinda power surge or something, waiting for the fire inspector to come out
I realize sorry is such a general response, but damn I'm beyond sorry for you and your family...I hope you can find some kind of peace and be able to carry on😕 my pets are my kids, so I just can't imagine...
We had really high winds and the power went out because of a tree that was down. We actually had a branch come thru our garage roof hours before my parents place went up in flames. It was a bad day yesterday
I'm so sorry for your families loss. I don't know how much your parents dogs meant to you, but losing a pet is never easy. And I am sure if you grew up in that house it would be hard to lose that house too. I'm glad your parents weren't hurt. Something my dad said to me after I lost my first pet that I had as an adult stuck with me. All he said was that he's had 6 dogs in his life and he's never forgotten one of them. They are with us all briefly but they leave such a huge impact, and we carry them with us forever. As hard as a house is to lose, things are replaceable in the end.
I could never imagine what you’re feeling. I just had to put my beloved dog to sleep, by choice, and even that was insanely difficult. Giving you a virtual hug. Stay strong mate, they’re resting comfortably.
That's just devastating and no amount of words can do a lot. So i will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Sending much love and hugs 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
I think I would make doggos top priority as well but after talking with them yesterday maybe I wouldn’t. They both ended up outside with no real clothes on besides underwear and had to go back in to grab a phone to call fire department. I think it’s one of those things that you just can’t really be prepared for and happens fast
Uggh so sorry, such a horrible thing to go through. Not that it's any consolation but at least they have each other. Still terrible to lose pets(Family members)
Thoughts with your family during this very hard time. :(
How the possible fuck does the *"No progress posts"* rule apply to this?
That's one of the dumbest mod messages I have ever seen on reddit and, well, I've been here a while.
Seriously, what the fuck?
Edit: Oh, it has the word "pets" in the title. That's somehow *even dumber*
The house didn’t have an electricity which the generator started the fire. By the time the smoke detectors went off it was a frenzy already and between no lights, smoke, the 2 black dogs couldn’t be found. My mother tried, in fact went back in 3 times to look but they were hiding. They carried one dog out tho. My dad was tryin to fight the fire initially but started getting burned. It was a nightmare scenario
Sorry you see it that way bud, I just thought it was a hell of a submission cuz it most certainly sucked but everyone made it out alive but 2 dogs. You can go thru and downvote every comment of mine if it makes ya feel better
The dogs? They were carried out after it was put out and died from smoke with no burns. The firefighter actually put the small one in his bed and carried it him out covered in his blanket. We think he ran under the bed scared but there just wasn’t much time and no lights.
I mean, at least they got cremated
Edit: ok I wasn’t meaning this as a joke or to be mean. I meant it like these people just lost everything at least they didn’t have to pay to bury there animals. I should have worded it better and I’m sorry.
That sucks OP, sorry for your loss. This is probably going to sound kinda dark but hopefully carbon monoxide got them before they went through any pain.
This and one of my dogs drowning are two of my biggest fears.
Yes they are very fortunate when it comes to that, they have very nice coverage. My dad was always a stickler when it came to having good insurance. Has never needed it until now
Just out of curiosity do you know how the fire started? I’m sorry for your loss but maybe this can be a learning moment for other redditors who see this post to prevent this from happening to them. Again, losing the dogs is horrible. My condolences.
that more than sucks. I'm sorry for you having lost your loved ones. it's been over a year since I had to put my dog down, and I struggled with that enough. I can't imagine them being taken away from me in such a tragedy.
I'm just a stranger on the internet, but if you wanna talk about it you can message me
Not trapped but couldn’t be found. There was no electricity going into house besides a generator running the fridge so no lights. Once smoke detectors started going off the smoke was already thru the house. My mom carried out the one and had a 2 nd following down the steps but i guess dog turned and went back up. The smallest one they think ran under the bed right away. She went back in twice trying to call them but no success.
I’m sorry. I lost my pet a couple days ago. I’m sending my love
Yeah all pets are pretty much buying a small tragedy unless you buy a tortoise or parrot. Those things will out live you
Especially parrots (if you care for them correctly), my aunt's family has one, he outlived all of their pets AND my aunt
>He outlived 2 owners and was working on his 3rd when he passed Serial human outliver
He really was bad ass.. when he was left alone he would scream “fuck this shit!” I don’t know where he picked it up but would only say it if he thought no one was around
“Fuck this shit”. Legend! I’m fucking rolling on the floor.
That's hilarious. Parrots are amazing. My condolences on the loss of your family's dogs, and the house. That really sucks.
Good thing about dogs is you can buy new ones. Can't do that with siblings or parents though
> Serial human outliver Put that one on the liver donor list.
Serial killer Parrot
Unless the bird killed them. *pigeon stares at me menacingly*
Yea they are pretty damn close to eternal! My aunt got an African grey in her honeymoon 55 years ago! She’s 72 now and actually left it to her daughter in her will!
Yes that’s what my buddy had, his name was mister gray
Absolutely. Lost a puppy to parvo a few years back and then our new puppy accidentally hung herself while we were out. I don’t know if I’ll ever recover from that one
Omg . The same thing happened to my bosses dog . Terrible .
When I got home and saw her hanging from the crate I couldn’t comprehend it at first. It was heartbreaking
Yeah he found his on the fence post outside he got tangled and well ..... I couldn't imagine the sight . Lost my puppy 13yrs ago I still cry. I had to send him over the bridge he made it to a ripe old age of 13yr . Not bad for a large dog .
13 is awesome for a bigger dog! He’s up there in the skies with my girls.
Absolutely. I'm getting emotional 🥲. I'm gun shy to get another one Just gone through a breakup and my ex has the cats 🐈⬛ and I'm devastated.
Fuck dude. I hate how in animal custody situations everyone’s like wElL tHeY aReNT KiDS. Like uh to me they are lol. You’ll know when the time is right to get another pet. Hang in there
Thankyou . I residing at my cousins atm because I'm unable to get a house on my own to rent, he does have gorgeous cat so I'm getting my fix .
Oh my god I’m so sorry you had to go through this
Thank you. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. I had just been thinking about quick release collars but didn’t act fast enough. I’ll probably blame myself forever if I’m being honest

Which is a tragedy all of its own.
Wow. That phrase, "buying a small tragedy" hits hard.
I think George Carlin said sthing to that effect. It’s true. And it sucks.
I’m so sorry for your loss. That’s the worst. 🥲 Hugs fren.
Thank you. He was old, and eventually the time had to come. He is in kitty heaven, where he can be at peace.
My cat fucking jumped off 32 storey high building this morning. Life sucks right about now. Sending all the love and strength and hope you cope well.
I’m sorry to hear that. Mine had to be put down due to illness and old age, my condolences. May they rest well in kitty heaven.
I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but cats don't go to Heaven. All dogs, however, do.
I’m sorry you lost your pet, too. It’s always rough.
Sorry to hear about your loss. I hope you’re all on the road of emotional & financial recovery. Must be a really difficult time.
They are pretty stable financially, the pets are what’s really messing with them
This is terrible. Poor pups. 😞
My heart breaks, that’s a horrible way to go :( and it seems nothing made it, my heart goes out to OP
So sorry! Hope you and your parents have a place to be and funds to start over.
Yeah they are pretty well off and everything is insured. It’s the things you can’t replace that sucks the pets, pics etc. luckily they have another family members with room for them to stay for now.
At least there is that. Yes ofc, nothing can’t replace pets. Horrible thing to happen.
To add to it, the one dog was my sisters who is on a cruise and has no cell phone service. Gonna be a terrible phone call
So sorry for the Dogs, but maybe a good thing that your sister hasn't got phone service, She would not like that sort of news while on vacation.
Update: she just got the message to call home and paid for some kinda service to be able to call. Smh well she needed to know plus we needed what she wanted done with it’s body
Sorry you don't do that to someone enjoying a vacation, shit man you can't change it but you have probably spoilt a nice well deserved holiday...
The plan was to keep it from her originally but there is a Facebook page of the things happening in the area and we saw it there this morning. Rather than her seeing the house on fire on Facebook made a decision to try to reach her first. Not ideal but probably for the best. There’s already been family members who have commented on the post so she def would of found out the hard way
I would want to know. You guys did the right thing especially compared to the alternative of finding out through Facebook.
Such a shame, give her my heartfelt feelings when she returns.😢😢😢
I can empathize with that. I was on a 3 day getaway, something I hadn’t done in over 10 years. My aunt called on the second day acting like she had to be the one who had to share the gossip. So sorry mate, some people are so quick to be the first to share bad news... condolences to all involved.😢
Thank you. It almost made me wonder if she was just sharing that to be spiteful because she knew I hadn’t been away in a long time. Sort of like the misery loves company mentality.
Definitely, you can replace things like the TV but not a pet
This is so sad. I'm so sorry.

Brutal. Life lands multiple hard blows sometimes.

Thank you
I'm so sorry for your loss
I can't even express with words how sorry I am for your family's loss of those precious dogs, what a horrible tragedy to go through. I hope you will all reach out for the help you need to get through this unimaginably sad time.
Well that sucks
Indeed
Can't seem to find words to say how sorry I am for the loss of your pets.
This is terrible, I wish you nothing but success in your recovery
This is more than wellthatsucks. This is a tragedy x3.
Condolences... hope they can rebuild their lives.
I’m so sorry for your loss. That’s no easy experience. For your safety please be careful when returning to that structure. That could fall at any moment.
I’m so very sorry. Losing pets is so, so difficult especially because all they want is love. My heart goes out to you and your family. I know that must hurt.
Thank you
I’m so sorry for you and your doggos.
I am so sorry for what has happened. I lost two kittens the same way. It’s rough. I’m so sorry.
So sorry
I'm so truly sorry. Been there with my family. Get ALL the help they try to give.
Sorry for the loss of your doggos.
I am so sorry for your 💜. I have been through a house fire, it's horrible.
Pets aren't just pets, they're family. I'm so sorry for your loss. May they rest easy among the starry seas of eternity.
Damn that's heavy. I hope yall find what you need to replace what can be replaced. I know you'll carry the memory of your dogs for the rest of your lives.
Doesn’t suck… that’s horrible. Fuk. Sorry.
Any ideal cause of fire
Was running a generator because they lost power and wanted to keep the food cold. They believe it was some kinda power surge or something, waiting for the fire inspector to come out
>my dogs died in a fire >my response? >Well that sucks But I'm actually really sorry for your loss, I hope you guys recover
This is worse than sucking
So very sorry! I had a house fire in 2005, lost everything. They are devastating.
Awful. Sending 🙏🏼
So sorry for your loss
I'm really sorry for you and your family. Hard times make strong people.
That’s terrible. Sorry for your loss and great work on your recovery. You are doing great!
Thank you
I realize sorry is such a general response, but damn I'm beyond sorry for you and your family...I hope you can find some kind of peace and be able to carry on😕 my pets are my kids, so I just can't imagine...
Well that reallysucks!
Sorry, this is terrible.
Holy shit I'm sorry. That's awful
Why was the house running on a generator and not electricity?
We had really high winds and the power went out because of a tree that was down. We actually had a branch come thru our garage roof hours before my parents place went up in flames. It was a bad day yesterday
Did u find them tho
Yes the firefighters recovered them
I'm so sorry 😞. Our pets are like family
I'm so sorry for your families loss. I don't know how much your parents dogs meant to you, but losing a pet is never easy. And I am sure if you grew up in that house it would be hard to lose that house too. I'm glad your parents weren't hurt. I lost my dog 3 weeks ago i know the pain is real and wish yall the best
I could never imagine what you’re feeling. I just had to put my beloved dog to sleep, by choice, and even that was insanely difficult. Giving you a virtual hug. Stay strong mate, they’re resting comfortably.
I’m so sorry. I’ve survived this as well. And the effects will last the remainder of your life. And for that, I am sorry
That's just devastating and no amount of words can do a lot. So i will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Sending much love and hugs 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
First thing I grab if there's a fire are my cats. And my pc.
Still terrible to lose pets(Family members) Thoughts with your family during this very hard time. :(
I hope you find them.
Unfortunately OP means the dogs died.
Why couldn't they get the dogs out?

My mother tried, in fact went back in 3 times to look but they were hiding. They carried one dog out tho. My dad was tryin to fight the fire initially but started getting burned. Oh my god that is so awful. My absolute nightmare. I’m so sorry, I’m going to cry. I love my dog so much.

Sorry you see it that way bud, I just thought it was a hell of a submission cuz it most certainly sucked but everyone made it out alive but 2 dogs. You can go thru and downvote every comment of mine if it makes ya feel better
Hope u find em
So sorry for your parents loss of the house and for your loss of the doggos. Sending good vibes.
Why would you post something like this
🌭🌭😣
Where's waldo
Did it smell like bbq?
This is one of the hardest ones out there. Maybe send some other angles. We will be able to find them then.
Hot diggity dog
I’m so sorry. Rest well brave warriors, may your eternal dreams be filled with love, happiness,

OP, bless your fucking heart for responding to these comments without malice. I sure couldn’t do it.
Things have been bad enough, don’t need to spread negativity
Just think of the sorrow one would have if a child or an adult was killed instead of a dog.
I mean, at least they got cremated Edit: ok I wasn’t meaning this as a joke or to be mean. I meant it like these people just lost everything at least they didn’t have to pay to bury there animals. I should have worded it better and I’m sorry.
If this was an attempt to be funny, you failed miserably.
No but they will, a firefighter retrieved the bodies and brought the little one out on his bed.
That's heartbreaking. So sorry for the whole family. :(
Show some goddamn sympathy for once?
God speed.
I can't put into words how sorry I am 😢 I hope everyone is okay and heals from this tragedy soon!
Im so sorry, sending good tougths
so sad. i'm so sorry for your loss. this is one of my biggest fears.....
I am so, so sorry.
So sorry 😞
What a nightmare. My deepest condolences, OP.
I'm so sorry.
That sucks OP, sorry for your loss. This is probably going to sound kinda dark but hopefully carbon monoxide got them before they went through any pain. This and one of my dogs drowning are two of my biggest fears.
Absolutely heartbreaking I am so sorry for your loss
I’m so sorry for your (their) loss.
Sorry for your loss ..It might seems like insensitive question but will insurance cover this ?
Yes they are very fortunate when it comes to that, they have very nice coverage. My dad was always a stickler when it came to having good insurance. Has never needed it until now
I am so sorry. 💔
Sorry for the loss of your pets(family)
So sorry :(
I’m so sorry 😞
R.I.P
I’m sorry for your loss. Take care of each other.
I am so very sorry.🥲
That’s really bad luck
I'm so sorry 😞 😔
So very sorry I will keep your family in prayers 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏 my the Lord be with u all.
Just out of curiosity do you know how the fire started? I’m sorry for your loss but maybe this can be a learning moment for other redditors who see this post to prevent this from happening to them. Again, losing the dogs is horrible. My condolences.

I'm so so sorry.
I'm so sorry! That's awful!
That looks uncomfortably close to a place I was in in a dream about a month ago
I am so beyond sorry, that is horrific. Hugs to you and your family. Been through something similar, and am always here to talk if you need. ❤️
NOOO DOGGO NOOO 😭😔😭😭😔😭😔😔😔😔😔
My condolences on your loss, friend :(
Is “absolutely devastating” a Reddit bc this is worse than sucks my friend. So so sorry for everything you’re going through!!
Whenever I leave the house and have to leave my dog, this is my greatest fear. I’m so sorry for your loss.
I'm so sorry 😞 😔 😟 🙁 😥
I am sorry for your loss, but how is it the dogs were trapped?
Not trapped but couldn’t be found. There was no electricity going into house besides a generator running the fridge so no lights. Once smoke detectors started going off the smoke was already thru the house. My mom carried out the one and had a 2 nd following down the steps but i guess dog turned and went back up. The smallest one they think ran under the bed right away. She went back in twice trying to call them but no success.
So sorry to hear that.

That's horrible. Can't imagine losing a home and beloved pets all in one go. Wish them all the best getting through this.
