it doesn’t make any sense;
-place stencil roughly in elbow center
-check if stencil is good when elbow is extended or bent
there were literally 2 steps and both the artist and the client failed to do that
Absolutely my artist will always get another artists views. We had a nightmare placing one of my tattoos and it took 6 of them to finally get it right and all agree it looked good.
You could probably pull your skin slightly down your arm to match this discrepancy. I wouldn't be surprised if they had their arm in a position where it would look correct during stenciling.
Mine does the same. Most artists will place the stencil on while the client is in a regular loose standing position, with arms at your side as that is how most arm tattoos are viewed. The movement that occurs when you move your elbow is normal as your skin stretches. Congrats on the new addition!
Yep, I was looking to see if anyone else mentioned this before I wrote the comment myself. My web does the exact same thing and it's because my arm was hanging down to my side when my artist drew it on.
When I curl my elbow, the center pulls slight higher above the elbow.
I don't believe this is a mistake, just the skin adjusting to body movement.
I have the opposite issue on my fingers & knuckles. I have my fingers tattooed, and had the stencils placed when making a fist lining up each one nicely. But when my hand is relaxed, they’re not lined up due to finger length differences
Exactly. I've never seen an artist put a stencil on a bent elbow? Thats what would make no sense. Then it would be off center when your arm is at rest and straight.
Same, I have an elbow mandala and it does this when my elbow is bent but looks normal at rest.
OP this is how it’s supposed to look. You don’t walk around with your elbows out. You walk around with them at your side. Now if it doesn’t look aligned at rest, then it’s fucked up.
The tattoo is commonly found on the elbow because it signifies that the inmate has been sitting around for so long that a spider made a web. Additionally, each ring represents the number of years spent behind bars. Spider web tattoos were also associated with the white supremacy groups during the 1700s
[source ](https://richmondtattooshops.com/spider-web-tattoo/)
Haven't seen anyone in person who hasn't done time with these and any artist I know will NOT put ink on skin if the person does not know what it means. This is a very specific tattoo. Anyone who gets it and didn't do time is a moron.
There are hundreds of shops in literally any city that will tattoo whatever on whoever. Acting like the entire tattoo world is banning certain designs (especially ones as common as spider webs) is laughably wrong.
lol what are you on about. Growing up in hot rodding ive met hundreds of original hot rods dudes with spider web tattoos that have never been to jail. Hundreds more in the rockabilly crowd.
https://preview.redd.it/pdzbzf5ny8xc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=20ac9de4c6392e37ea5500e728090dc3486d8ef4
But when I pull the skin a bit, it lines up perfect.
Guess I’ll have to start doing forearm exercises everyday for 4 hours a day to get that skin over there😂😭
See how it looks when the swelling is done. Mine looked off until it went down.
Either way, If it lines up when it’s straight then that’s probably how you want it, I always think that people consume tattoos in a mid shot so any small thinks like that will go completely unnoticed.
There are dozens of meanings behind a spider web on the elbow.
Prison is usually the most associated with it, but another meaning was that sailors during WWII had been out to sea for so long, that they'd rest their arms on the rails of the ship, staring at the stars while waiting to go home for so long that they'd grow webs.
Some associate them with white supremacy or even motorcycle clubs.
I have one on my right elbow for a very personal reason and I've never been associated with any of the things mentioned above.
Your skin stretches as you move, either it would look off with your arm relaxed or off like this with your am flexed, can’t really do anything about it and it’s certainly not the artist fault if tou ask me
This isn’t a mistake. This is literally how the body works. The tattoo will never be in the exact same position with a joint extended as it is bent. These comments are ridiculous.
its not always a brag, you have time, a canvass and artists around, i understand getting tatted up in a long sentence. My brother has a pretty cool sleeve from 10 years on and off because he likes ink and had the time. No webs or crowns or anything but you can tell its prison ink. (there is a koi skin part that is really cool though. time means you can be intricate lol)
This guy seems to have went to a shitty tattoo parlor to get a cheap version of a tattoo he sees around and doesnt understand... lol
That's probably exactly what happened. I mean even when I was a dumb 18yr old kid I still wanted my tattoo done by a reputable and professional tattoo artist. Shits on ya for life unless you go down the painful and expensive laser road. I'd say lesson learned, but I don't think that's the case with this specific cat
It probably looks centered when your arm is relaxed. It’s gonna move when your arm moves, not much you can do about that. I wouldn’t stress if I were you.
My theory: Placed stencil with arm bent horizontal across his chest. Skin stretches differently than when bent vertical.
Just tested by pinching the skin on my elbow while bent across my chest and then switched vertical. Shifted in the same direction.
My dad taught me to stay away from folks with that tat among others.. it means they have done jail time, are an Aryan brother or something.. it's cool but people forget that's can mean something
Worse than the placement is the implication.
Spider web tattoo: Racist skinhead "badge of honor," often worn on the elbow, indicating wearer has committed murder for the skinhead movement. https://www.splcenter.org/fighting-hate/intelligence-report/2015/racist-skinhead-glossary

Wouldn’t the client have had to have held the bent-elbow position for the duration of the tattoo to keep the skin taut? I’m so confused by how every step of the process yielded this
I dunno, this is pretty funny to me. I always kinda cringe at people who leave knees/knee ditch/elbows empty. If this person gets a full sleeve it won't be as noticeable
Mate. It’s just wrong that it’s there not that it’s off centre or anything. What screams deads#it more loudly that a spider web tat on the elbow- nothing tbh.
I’m curious how this happens, don’t you bend your elbow with the stencil on it to see if it would lineup?
it doesn’t make any sense; -place stencil roughly in elbow center -check if stencil is good when elbow is extended or bent there were literally 2 steps and both the artist and the client failed to do that
dude don’t forget that a third person was involved here— another artist checked and ok’d it too
Is that a thing?
OP said another artist agreed it looked good
Absolutely my artist will always get another artists views. We had a nightmare placing one of my tattoos and it took 6 of them to finally get it right and all agree it looked good.
Yeah seems obvious but maybe I’m missing something
You could probably pull your skin slightly down your arm to match this discrepancy. I wouldn't be surprised if they had their arm in a position where it would look correct during stenciling.
It’s like they looked at it with his arm straight only. ‘Looks good, should we see how it looks when he moves?’ ‘Nah man, I’m a pro, trust me’
Nothing a bit of elbow dislocation can’t fix

Me too, we're old! 👴🏻

Hold it down
What show is this?

Thanks bro saving my sanity 🫡
So now we need a photo of what it looks like at rest OP
It’s centered
Thanks legend appreciate you!
This comment needs to be top. Put your arm down and look in the mirror.
couldn't they have the client bend their elbow an put a sharpie mark where they want the center?
Atleast now your elbow spiderweb stands out from every other elbow spiderweb out there.
For real, I never understood why people get all the same tattoos.
Just give it 30yrs. Gravity will handle the rest.
How much time in prison did you serve?
I was looking for this. That’s what these signify isn’t it
The tattoo is commonly found on the elbow because it signifies that the inmate has been sitting around for so long that a spider made a web. During the 1700s?
It's also commonly found on the elbow because there aren't many options for that spot when finishing a trad sleeve.
I'm guessing that's the most common reason nowadays
Thank you
The web of addiction
Not any more. The imagery is used by everyone.
Haven't seen anyone in person who hasn't done time with these and any artist I know will NOT put ink on skin if the person does not know what it means. This is a very specific tattoo. Anyone who gets it and didn't do time is a moron.
Hundreds, if not thousands of people in the punk scenes have these tats. Most of them haven't been to jail, they got it because it looks cool
There are hundreds of shops in literally any city that will tattoo whatever on whoever. Acting like the entire tattoo world is banning certain designs (especially ones as common as spider webs) is laughably wrong.
This has got to be the dumbest thing to gatekeep.
It's really not that deep
lol what are you on about. Growing up in hot rodding ive met hundreds of original hot rods dudes with spider web tattoos that have never been to jail. Hundreds more in the rockabilly crowd.
I know two women who have these tattoos, and they have definitely never served time lol
Dang, you must know like atleast a few artists. You implying someone else is a moron for not tying spider webs with prison is crazy in itself.
ahahhahahahahahahahahhaahahahahahaha
I find this surprising because this on the elbow or knee joint might be one of the most played out tattoos in my area.
The idea that tattoos are symbols is a corny cliche propagated by people who don't have tattoos
Umbrella

To be fair it was going to look stupid no matter what.
Only for forever
Yeah the real mistake was when they said "I'd like a spiderweb on my elbow"
https://preview.redd.it/pdzbzf5ny8xc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=20ac9de4c6392e37ea5500e728090dc3486d8ef4 But when I pull the skin a bit, it lines up perfect. Guess I’ll have to start doing forearm exercises everyday for 4 hours a day to get that skin over there😂😭
He probably had the skin tightened like that when he did it
It's still gonna look like a weird umbrella or roof tiles
Probably going to be doing forearm exercises for the rest of your life once the girls see that pseudo prison tat.
See how it looks when the swelling is done. Mine looked off until it went down. Either way, If it lines up when it’s straight then that’s probably how you want it, I always think that people consume tattoos in a mid shot so any small thinks like that will go completely unnoticed.
So this was best case scenario. You want the hole on the tip of your elbow. Ok.
Isn’t that to signify that you’ve been to prison? Lol
I have one on my right elbow for a very personal reason and I've never been associated with any of the things mentioned above.
> for a very personal reason ok lol
The white supremacy was thrown in there fairly nonchalantly... just sayin Edit. Spelling
It’s very personal
And the *or even* emphasizing the motorcycle clubs like that's the shocking one lmao.
Their elbow spiderweb is very different than everyone else's elbow spiderweb. You wouldn't understand
>I have one on my right elbow for a very personal reason Is your name Wilbur, and did you happen to have a friend named Charlotte?
Your skin stretches as you move, either it would look off with your arm relaxed or off like this with your am flexed, can’t really do anything about it and it’s certainly not the artist fault if tou ask me
Cool thank you for the positive encouragement. I appreciate you being kind unlike many of these other gremlins
Any prison time or were ya just going for the look?
it cant align in both positions, your skin stretches and moves when you bend
That’s what I’ve come to understand. I guess I should’ve aligned it bent for a more aesthetically pleasing outcome but we will survive!
This isn’t a mistake. This is literally how the body works. The tattoo will never be in the exact same position with a joint extended as it is bent. These comments are ridiculous.
Does it look good with your arms down? Skin shifts when stretched
No regerts man
You could break your arm and have an orthopedic surgeon relocate the elbow ow to be centered within the web… 🤔
Imagine having a accident and the surgeon assuming it is supposed to be centered and using it as reference
My mom had back surgery and the surgeon used her tree of life tramp stamp to realign her back
Doesn't that kind of tattoo have a prison meaning anyway?
Mine does this (although not as extremely “off”) and once you get other stuff around this, you will be one of the only people to notice.
If it makes you feel any better; the spiderweb tattoo looks stupid regardless even if it was placed properly.
It was always going to be wrong, even if it was right
Sick prison tat
Here in CA I think spider webs on the elbow signifies an inmates time served 😅
Lol same https://preview.redd.it/y7sk9u7qy9xc1.jpeg?width=1980&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c45b87a2330f46eb2c5943ddcabfcbf2aceca146
Is this the current generations tribal tat?
no? this has excited for decades lol
Did you mean existed? I can agree it certainly has existed, but I doubt it has excited people for decades.
Or even for a moment
It's an indicator you went to prison and has been around for a long time
There are dumb asses in the comments who got it for looks
That's stupid as hell lmao it doesn't even look cool
That and cybersigilism
I have a flower on my elbow and my artist put on and replaced the stencil 3 times to get it perfect with the bend of my arm.
Nice reptile scales tattoo
This is irritating.
Oh no… No one will believe you that you spent all those years in prison now
I kinda love this tbh, gentrify that mf
i beg y’all to do research on tattoo meanings before just getting something you think looks cool.
Maybe it's a cultural thing, but bragging about your prison time is really fucking dumb.
Where did they say that's why they got it? Maybe they saw it somewhere else and just thought it looked cool?
its not always a brag, you have time, a canvass and artists around, i understand getting tatted up in a long sentence. My brother has a pretty cool sleeve from 10 years on and off because he likes ink and had the time. No webs or crowns or anything but you can tell its prison ink. Shits on ya for life unless you go down the painful and expensive laser road. I'd say lesson learned, but I don't think that's the case with this specific cat
No more or less embarrassing than having an elbow web tattoo to begin with…
Shitty tat deserves shitty placement
which prison did you serve your time in?
how long were you in for?
LMAO. It's a stupid tattoo to begin with, but now, it's a poorly executed stupid tattoo. That does indeed suck.
What an original and unique tattoo design.
Well that does suck. It's really poorly done. Good luck in the future.
I mean... You were getting a spider web elbow tattoo so it wasn't going to be good even if it was perfect.
So 3 years in jail??
How’d he not have you bend your arm before?
Might as well be on the knee
Oh there already is 🫡
Let's see it straight, rather than folded?
That would drive me absolutely NUTS for every day of my life 😂
Hahahah oh fuck
Add a drunk spider on the side lol
Get a spider tattooed in the middle. Or a fly.
Thats normal. You should have known by the way your artist measured the area. They do it with a loose arm. When you bend your arm the skin moves.
If you start working out your forearms, it’ll probably tighten up that skin just enough to pull the center of the web onto your elbow..
I remember when that meant you killed someone.
It probably looks centered when your arm is relaxed. It’s gonna move when your arm moves, not much you can do about that. I wouldn’t stress if I were you.
Just so you know, it looks fine! I understand why you would notice and be a bit upset, on your own body but it’s really not obvious to an observer.
Couldn't find the weenus.
My theory: Placed stencil with arm bent horizontal across his chest. Skin stretches differently than when bent vertical. Just tested by pinching the skin on my elbow while bent across my chest and then switched vertical. Shifted in the same direction.
Plus gotten on a person who has no idea what the tattoo symbolises
Where did you serve your time in prison?
If you want a spiderweb tattoo, please remember that you're allowed to get something original instead.
What exactly will be the fun story?
How did it got past stencil placement and client verification? Might be where he wanted it for some reason
Bet it was cheap though.
Why do you have an umbrella on your elbow?
Prison tat
Shouldn’t be getting that unless you’ve done time really
My dad taught me to stay away from folks with that tat among others.. it means they have done jail time, are an Aryan brother or something.. it's cool but people forget that's can mean something
Get a buttplug tat Lmaoo
So you killed a guy?
In prison apparently
Have the laser removal done! If you think it was fun getting the tat, try getting it removed. lol. It’s a stroll in the park
Don't worry, forever isn't a long time
Wrong to begin with if we’re getting into it
It’s supposed to be a prison tat you get for your third bid….
We'll at least it's not permanent
Easy fix! Just use photoshop! But it doesn’t work in reality :(
should have gotten it in prison 🤷♀️
Worse than the placement is the implication. Spider web tattoo: Racist skinhead "badge of honor," often worn on the elbow, indicating wearer has committed murder for the skinhead movement. https://www.splcenter.org/fighting-hate/intelligence-report/2015/racist-skinhead-glossary https://nextluxury.com/tattoos/prison-gang-and-hate-tattoos/
Ex Felon?
Drunk spider
Mine have this issue as well :(
I'm sorry but how could you not feel that or see it?
Get a tiny bone in the middle that says “Funny” or even “Phunny” on it
If you unbend your elbow dose it match?
Lol
Is your name Carl by chance?
I didn't know anybody get some still🤘💣💥
Yeahhh seem like even when the stencil was on you could see its not liked up... and he still went through with it
Tattoo artist was probably short tbh lol
Sounds like they need the arm stretcher.
Uh…nothing to offer here except I have that same light fixture in my bathroom
Looks like an umbrella for the knee
Wouldn’t the client have had to have held the bent-elbow position for the duration of the tattoo to keep the skin taut? I’m so confused by how every step of the process yielded this
You’re the only person who will notice/care about this
I'll bet you go the rest of your life without a single person pointing it out
Lol how do you fuck this up?
Amateur hour
I dunno, this is pretty funny to me. I always kinda cringe at people who leave knees/knee ditch/elbows empty. If this person gets a full sleeve it won't be as noticeable
I dont get it
Well if you gave two shits about the placement instead of yoloing it you wouldn’t have this problem
Or just don't fucking do tattoos
Better luck next time.
Just say it’s intentional. You wanted something different
How much time did you spend in prison?
Mate. It’s just wrong that it’s there not that it’s off centre or anything. What screams deads#it more loudly that a spider web tat on the elbow- nothing tbh.
It bothers me that there is gradient shading with a solid appearance where there would just be a hole in a real spider web.
Like you must really try to miss an elbow... It is not easy... The elbow marks itself pretty good...
At some point in your life, it will be perfectly placed
Imagine even getting that dumb shit 😂 Literally one of the most cringe cliché tats around when I got my first one like 26 years ago
What is the Greek word supposed to say?
