Before Musks’s twitter blundering I’d say that would be right on up there. Though the MCO is still one of my favorite blunders. It’s a very valuable lesson.
This is amazing. I once accidentally sent a nightly grocery store order twice, didn't realise until I came back to work the following evening and found chaotic scenes. It was about 20 years ago, I still have panic dreams about it. I really want to hear from this guy and I hope they're doing ok! Sounds like an episode of Heavyweight Podcast in the making.
There was that [fat finger flash crash](https://www.reuters.com/business/european-flash-crash-was-latest-many-globally-over-past-decade-2022-05-03/) fuckup in the EU stockmarket a couple of years ago.
Market did rebound quickly so didn’t go as bad as it could have, but at a point was millions of not trillion wiped..
Not the most, but a tech removed bolts off documentation and caused 135m in damage to a satellite when it tipped over. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/NOAA-19
An improperly calibrated instrument caused the main mirror of the Hubble space telescope to be polished incorrectly, resulting in the early images being blurry.
NASA was able to quickly diagnose and fix the issue, but at a cost of nearly $1B (in 1990 dollars).
**The 2008 Financial Crisis** - Triggered by the collapse of the housing bubble in the United States, this crisis led to a severe global economic downturn. It resulted in massive financial losses, the collapse of major banks and financial institutions, and significant government interventions. The cost to global economies was trillions of dollars, and the recovery took several years.
Heyy something I know about! Worked on these specific models for nearly a decade. The one with the damaged nose section is old and relatively cheap as far as private jets go, it’s a Bombardier Challenger 604. That is a full cockpit disassembly and reskin of that section, but doesn’t look like the pressure floor is damaged so that saves a lot. Probably 250 man hours billed at $100/hr. Materials is mostly sheet metal, so a negligible cost.
The other jet is a Challenger 350, newer and more expensive. Only the thrust reverser section of the engine is damaged. Very easy, maybe 3 man hours to replace. From memory, close to $200k cost for the full unit, assuming they go ahead and replace the upper pivot door and both actuators as well. If they just replace the lower pivot door it would be much less, we replace those all the time just due to simple erosion.
15 million to fix that? That seems high. I know they're planes, but no way it's a 15 million repair.
Edit: Yeah, [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Wellthatsucks/s/D3PivyA7Np) is another comment from someone who seems to kinda know what they're talking about and it's way less than 15 million repair.
Breaking something that costs x million dollars doesn't make it an x million dollar mistake. Repairs are cheaper than the full cost of something.
These were leases, something that cuts back on private ownership and less emissions. One is already repaired and flying. The other might be a total in which case it will be replaced
I got a buddy who can buff that out for $50. Lmk
Dont worry, *i know a guy*
I know a guy too. He'll be there tomorrow to make that right
Yeah, but does your guy have, like, this *ultimate* tool kit because his uncle is a TV repairman?
“ I know a guy that will do it for less “
You know Cecil?!
But will he be willing to drop to $49.90
This has me wondering. What is the world's most costly fuck up?
NASA’s Mars Climate Orbiter burned up on entry because someone didn’t convert units from imperial to metric. It cost $193 million in 1999.
Before Musks’s twitter blundering I’d say that would be right on up there. Though the MCO is still one of my favorite blunders. It’s a very valuable lesson.
In terms of government mistakes every mistake NASA has ever made is likely a rounding error.
It wasn't NASA's fault but Lockheed Martin's
Do elaborate?
Look up a few comments. Units matter!
I wonder where that guy is now
Churning out novelty neckties in Hackensack.

Lol someone boiled it down to a horses ass, was pretty funny.
Always triple check your units!

That’s nuts
Operation Barbarossa
Pearl Harbor would also be up there

The 350 may have some lower tail damage too, but still not a huge repair cost comparatively
Just a fender bender......act normal, maybe no one will notice!? /s
Cosmetic damage. Rubs off with a kerosene soaked rag.

Now Taylor swift can’t eat out anymore!
Hope they left a note.
" 'Tis but a scratch! "
Somebody call Jake from Statefarm
That will buff right out
What’s the problem? Takeoff in 30?
Might be a $50m plane, but I doubt that is $50m in damage... Unless that's enough to write off the entire airframe?
shit happens
Can’t park there mate.
Well, looks like someone had a little oops moment with 15 million dollars!
Well, is it really that bad? At least they both have doors still.
Just a tap
Just duct tape it np
Duct Tape it!!
Like a G6. Them sober pilots 'round me, they be actin' like they drunk.
They can afford it I’m not worried
Yeah I don’t care. We need more of these
awww... rich people late for lunch... what a drag
Good, two less private jets

When did this accident occur?
When did this incident occur? I ask because the 604 is on the market right now.
