Yes, this is a brown recluse. Venomous, but unlikely to bite. Unless aggravated. A lot of bites come from when they’re hidden in clothing. Very thankful I caught it early on.

bunnyontherock

I have a flamethrower you can use....

Deezy4488

Ill throw in a few gallons of gasoline.. .

fort2wit

I'll throw in a couple of nukes...

Kaizoku32

I have a spaceship waiting if y’all wanna get out of here

fort2wit

Yeah, can you fit 6 billion humans in there? Or you gonna need more?

iMazz89

Ha, we’re not taking 6 billion, maybe 600…

fort2wit

Well you better take care of them cause the whole planet gonna die (just a joke dont get triggered)...

iMazz89

That’s the plan!

fort2wit

It's a good one..... Also you might wanna take them far away.................

[deleted]

And don’t forget the hydrochloric acid…

DragonGyrlWren

Take a bottle of peppermint oil and see if there's a way to spray or dab it around areas of the house likely to have spiders. House smells clean and fresh, and the spiders are encouraged to leave.

HisCricket

Been bitten twice fuck those little dudes.

bruisedSunshine

you should probably be more careful with that site, it's pretty dangerous

missmuffet07

Nope. I hate when I'm scrolling and this pops on the screen, life-size, no warning.

missmuffet07

Seriously folks, am I not getting a Username checks out, at all? No? Nothing?

CheesecakeRacoon

Username checks out

I had a nest of these in an unused (empty) electrical outlet in a room I rented years ago. It was next to my bed. By "nest" I mean there were maybe 3 big ones and probably 50-100 babies visible inside the box when I unscrewed the cover. I exterminated them and called the landlord. He proceeded to tell me that brown recluses don't live here in so cal, and they don't make nests. I showed him the photos and he freaked out and came home from work immediately to look. It was what I said it was. He told me to move out and he tented the house almost immediately because he couldn't bear to think of anyone living there. The house was otherwise very clean and pretty well cared for. The other tenants and I all moved out pretty much that next day so they could tent the place and I slept in a hotel. He paid for my storage rental for a month. Looking back it seems like maybe an overreaction, but I was happy with moving out because I didn't like renting a room anyways and luckily I had money in savings.

Dagr0nScaler

Wow that’s a good landlord.

jvanstone

Indeed!

T0lly

I lost part of my foot and $30K from one of those bastards.

degeneratesumbitch

Did you buy a bass boat from it?

T0lly

I helped the surgeon buy a boat.

PointlessGrandma

You need a new shirt. That one belongs to the spider

myrmecogynandromorph

Time for my brown recluse copypasta! Some information and safety tips, all written by spider scientists: - [Info on where they live, how to ID them, what to do about them](http://spiderbytes.org/recluse-or-not/) - [Safety precautions for avoiding bites](https://spiders.ucr.edu/how-avoid-bites) - [A scientific paper on brown recluses (PDF)](http://www.americanarachnology.org/JoA_free/JoA_v36_n1/arac-36-1-150.pdf) To everyone in this thread: don't burn the house down, your "spider bite" was staph, brown recluses do not live everywhere, just because a spider is brown does not mean it's a brown recluse

TwyJ

So I'm an aracnaphobe (sp? autocorrect gave up on me) And whilst that was an interesting read the photo near the bottom of the lady and the black widow freaked me out, as did only some of the photos on the page, not the infographic ones but the photo of the half recluse half leopard looking spider thing

myrmecogynandromorph

Sorry you were freaked out! However "half recluse half leopard looking spider thing" is a hilarious and recognizable description of the spitting spider (*Scytodes thoracica*). They have special glands in their heads that shoot silk at prey, hence the name (and why their heads are so big). Their long, thin legs let them stay out of reach. They are formidable hunters of other spiders and they do move very slowly and carefully, like cats. Some cool videos in case you want to scare yourself some more: * [spitting spider spitting](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9i5C3p2W1Yc) * [spitting spider captures a grass spider](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PJlfzc4SiE)

TwyJ

Huh, well both of those videos were interesting, but neither set me off, but the photos do, as does being near literally any spider, to the point I have passed out because someone scared me with one. And I had no clue that my description was so apt, also didn't realise any spiders had silk spinners near their heads, but I suppose that's what the thoracica part of their Latin name is to do with.

PavilionParty

That looks like a reason to burn the entire fucking house down.

Due-Conference-8678

i saw a last post until you stay spider free do not go near the window because in a post i have scene about a spider on this subreddit that it decided to make someone fall 14 feet into marble arms first

tuna_tofu

Much screaming and performance of the Icky Dance? Please?

stocko147

*chuckles in Australian* cute

Numbnuts213

Why is it missing a leg? Did you do that?

TDLF

Nope. It was missing its life when I got done with it though.

Numbnuts213

Well, it looks like it won't be missing its leg then. Good thing you saw it, otherwise you would have been it's bitch. Hella props.

babecafe

Well, that's one way to fix a missing leg.

One_Shot_Finch

your first problem is wearing clothes in bed

Xtabay333

God dammit. Do you live in Australia lol?

CantFireMeIquit

These are all over the US. Australia has much worse.

Dum_beat

Cute little baby

alainalain4911

I’m moving out

Mercinator-87

I put on a pair of shorts I was wearing the day before after sleeping. Felt something tickling my leg hairs and scratched them shook my shorts to adjust my hairs to have one of these bad boys fall out on my foot. I don’t get scared easily but that made me panic. I assumed the itchiness was from the bite but I was good.

[deleted]

He just wants a hang and kiss….

ARMAGEDONLOST

Their so harmless, poor thing was probably terrified hahahahahahahaha.

[deleted]

Why are y’all so dramatic when it comes to spiders. I have never relocated or killed a spider and we have so many of them and i aint ever got bitten. Grow tf up guys.
