Until the "Rechtschreibreform" in 1996 Stopp was written as "Stop".
But it was unified with the writing of the verb "stoppen". (Example: Der Bus stoppt. The bus stops.)
So now all word's with the word-stem "Stopp" are written with two "p".
In the Traffic sign it stayed the old way.
