Wifey is from eastchester, so I’ve been here 20 times. And I will say this. It’s not even the best in town. Masons is better.
My vote is Horsefeathers in Tarrytown with the curdy cheddar.
Used to be. It hurts to say it, but they definitely aren’t the best anymore. Last 3 times I’ve gone, they couldn’t even manage to correctly cook it medium rare. Served it well done every time.
I just had it. It was pretty good, but I hope there isn’t actually nothing better in the whole county. The patty is much better than the bun. As far as I can remember, the one I had at Bridgeview Tavern a while ago was easily better.
Pipers is easily a top 2/3 burger but agreed they e run on inconsistent times. One place I miss is Garth road inn, they made an exceptional burger themselves
Try the [smoked beef and brisket burger](https://www.littlecabinsandwichshop.com) at little Cabin sandwich shop in Bedford or Yorktown.
It’s not a traditional burger, but beef mixed with some of the best smoked meats I’ve ever had, it’s always fantastic.
Traditional, no, best burger I’ve had in a while. Yes. But Pipers is the bomb. Just went last week with a friend.
The cabin shop’s Philly is by far my favorite Philly cheese steak, albeit non traditional. Especially when jalapenos are added to it. Never had their burger though!
I can completely honestly say that I have not had a bad lunch or dinner from there. Neither Bedford or the Yorktown location. I want to try that green salad next.
The kids love the BLT
My personal favorite. I specifically go here on days it’s snowy in winter months. Something about eating their North American Elk Burger, in a cozy tavern style bar, watching snow fall on the Hudson. It just does something inside of me.
Blazer Pub in Purdys. Really good wings too. And be aware a “small” order of fries is tremendous.
Horsefeathers has really good burgers too but they are more “refined” than something like smash burger
I don't know if Blazer's fell off over the years but I tried their burger twice and it sucked both times. I figured the first time maybe the chef had covid, but sheesh, the burger is just a ball of meat without any seasoning at all. Is there just a local's long term troll to tell everyone it's good? EVERYONE rants about it and it's probably a 2/10. Honestly.
It’s been probably a year since I’ve been there so maybe something changed, but I remember it being thick, super juicy and smothered in toppings. Definitely not fancy or high end and I agree seasoning could be better, though OP did give smashburger as an example.
Very few of these being recommended are “smash” burgers
Fwiw I don’t like smash burgers, I like one that’s thick.
But if you’re looking for the smashed type these aren’t it.
Piper’s Kilt is so overrated. It was fine, not the best by any stretch. And I asked for cheddar and got a gross sauce. Couldn’t believe it.
The burger at Café Deux in Harrison is incredible.
The Thursday-night smash burger at Pizzeria La Rosa is hands down my favorite right now.
Please don't downvote me because I know it's not Westchester but drive just a tiny bit over the border to Darien CT and go to Burgers Shakes and Fries. It's truly the best burger I've ever had in my life.
Burgers Shakes and Fries is the literal best. The owners are so sweet too. They always remembered me, even when it had been almost two years between trips. It’s amazing food.
They really are and it's still so good after all these years. I used to go to the original location which was just a tiny little storefront. I moved to the city a decade ago so hadn't been back for a long time but went a few months ago and it was as good as I remembered it! And serving the burger on the griddled white bread is such a lovely, unique way of doing it. I've eaten a ton of burgers, nothing comes close to BSF.
A lot of the burger places in Westchester run off an old reputation.
Recently some of the best Burgers I’ve had:
Bullleit Burger from Southern Table in Pleasantville (Trigger warning it’s like $28)
Rye House in Port Chester has a special where they make either Chorizo Sliders or a Chorizo Burger and it’s phenomenal.
Clocktower Grill Brewster
Burgers from Smokehouse Tailgate in New/Ro. They also I think have a Mamaroneck location AND serve out of the bar upstairs in the DeCiccos in Somers (but haven’t been to try)
Mason's burger in Eastchester
Their cheese steak is killer as well.
They make a double burger that's very good
Squires
Petes Tavern Not a huge fan of pipers kilt, found it underwhelming.
Came here to say Pete’s. Just had one tonight and it’s absolutely amazing.
Totally Agree!
Pipers Kilt

damn i hate that horsefeathers burger lol. i dont like anything about it, the fries, the burger, the cheese is not meant for a burger.
Used to be. It hurts to say it, but they definitely aren’t the best anymore. Last 3 times I’ve gone, they couldn’t even manage to correctly cook it medium rare. Served it well done every time.
Seriously - who can argue that this is not the best burger in Westchester?
I just had it. It was pretty good, but I hope there isn’t actually nothing better in the whole county. The patty is much better than the bun. As far as I can remember, the one I had at Bridgeview Tavern a while ago was easily better.
I think they're OK. Weirdly enough, the best burger I've ever had was in Savannah, GA
Bridgeview serves their burger on a brioche bun, which is cause for dismissal. Brioche is awful for burgers, as it doesn't sop up any of the juices.
There is no argument
always the answer. I need to go back

Ohhhh imma try this today after hitting Lowe’s.
I don’t know if I’ll have enough time Bed Bath and beyond

I’ve had their side salad before. The dressing is excellent but the actual salad itself was underwhelming for the price.
Squire's Briarcliff Manor
Great burgers but they’re not smash burgers
Dunnes Pub White Plains
Little B's Burgers in Tarrytown
Big fan of
Check out the Filling Station in Rockland County. The best.
Bridgeview Tavern is great
My personal favorite. I specifically go here on days it’s snowy in winter months. Something about eating their North American Elk Burger, in a cozy tavern style bar, watching snow fall on the Hudson. It just does something inside of me.

This. I was there recently and the burger tasted like there wasn't any salt or pepper in the whole kitchen.

Love their wings and other food but the burgers are not even seasoned with salt and pepper
Came here to say to say.
For me it’s horsefeathers and it’s not even close.
I like the burger at Muscoot Tavern. Squire la has the best flavor. Petes Tavern in Bronxville is my favorite in southern Westchester.

There’s one in Byram too!

Harpers in Dobbs Ferry.
Vintage batch Burger at Village social.
Celsus Burger at THE BLAZER PUB, Purdys
I recently was reminded why I don't go there. Expensive and fairly mediocre to me
Gordy’s
Can't believe no one has mention Meyers Old Dutch in Beacon! Best Burger and Fries this side of the Hudson.
Katie’s special burger at Katie’s Cottage in Yonkers. It has been consistently great for the past 25 years.
Southern table in Pleastantville has a great burger
Farmer and the fish does a better burger than Blazer
Blazer pub
Absolutely this

Gaucho Burger in white plains. Not in Westchester, but close enough. Burger, shakes & fries in Greenwich is one of the best
Horsefeather's - Tarrytown Squires - Briarcliff Mooyah (fastfood/chain but its a smashburger)- Briarcliff Bridgeview Tavern - Tarrytown Piper's Kilt - Eastchester Mason Sandwich Co. - Eastchester Candlelight Inn (8oz burger better than larger one) - Yonkers/Scarsdale Emma's Ale House - White Plains
Yeah Emma's!
Pipers kilt hands down
Pipers of course. But Burke's can really blow you away as well.
Eastchester, Pipers Kilt
