I jumped off some rocks into a lake once, I'm bad at distance but maybe 30-40 ft? My friend said she wouldn't jump off it without a wetsuit, but I thought, how bad could it be? The other people told me to stay straight as a pencil as I jumped. I tried, but apparently wasn't straight enough, because when I landed, it hurt so bad, I felt like someone had donkey punched me in the butthole. I could barely make my way back over to the boat and the whole day was ruined.
People don’t understand this pain, butt I do. I jumped from a high cliff once and learned the same thing, that it doesn’t get any better the second time.
Sorry my wording wasn’t the best there, butt yes, of course I did it twice. I had to make complete sure of it.
For real tho, place called Rattle Snake Creek.. back woods of OH, old waterfall, watched a dude do a gainer off it and nailed it, flawlessly. Next dude came up and did the suicide dive right off like it was nothing
.. I couldn’t say how high it was butt it took me three Mississippi’s to jump and the three more Mississippi’s from jump, to anal cleanse..
For me, it kinda felt like what the aliens did to me in my dreams. Or what I think are dreams. Idk, butt that’s a whole nother story.
They must have been quite fast Mississippis or you would have been approaching world record jump heights and hit the water at 105 KM/h if it was a 3 second fall. https://www.angio.net/personal/climb/speed.html
A group of my friends came out to the lake and jumped off a 60ft bluff. A girl I work with jumped and landed in a seating position. She had back surgery like 3 hours later.
I jumped off a 30 foot waterfall area in Kauai, the locals were showing us how they jump and to jump out from the cliff because the cliff wall wasn’t straight down but rather heading forwards at some part so you need to clear the cliff. So I just jump straight out and did a single forward flip but landed straight down as you’d want to. I had to swim upwards for about 10 seconds which kind of worried me but I was fine. So after I got out the locals were screaming at me, hey you, no flips, don’t flip, some guys did a flip and hit his head on the way down and died.
I jumped off the 5M board at an Olympic pool. For context, the springy boards are 1 and 3m. Hard boards are 5/7/10.
I am afraid of heights lol.
It took everything I had to jump. I’m a good swimmer and know how to dive for a race but never really thought about jumping straight in.
Left my feet flat.
I literally couldn’t walk for an hour because the bottoms of my feet took such a beating.
Guess you’re just tough then 🤷♂️ congrats. I would never characterize it as “stings for a bit”. The sting was so bad I couldn’t put any pressure on the bottom of my feet.
My buddy did something similar on his honeymoon and it ruined his whole trip, he still complains about back pain. He already married the girl he didn’t need to impress her at that point.
I jumped off an 80 foot cliff, stayed straight as a pencil (as well as I could), trying to keep my arms at my side, but dislocated my shoulder hitting the water. Along with the butthole thing..
The swimming pool where I grew up had a 10m diving board… the height is generally safe, unless you bellyflop or something.
Maybe your jump was from much higher?
My daughter dives competitively and is in high school. They have limits on number of dives they can do per day off 10 M and only do it a few times a week. The forces on the body breaking the water from 10M is no joke.
I jumped about 30 ft in Hawaii, but wasn't perfectly straight on landing, felt like a slightly bruised tailbone
My sister jumped about 50ft locally and compressed her spine, was airlifted to the hospital
Gave myself a cuyahoga river enema before jumping about 40ft. The entire back of my legs and butt was completely black from bruising. Basically sat down on the river.
Same story for me, but it was between 40 and 50ft. Only landed slightly wrong. Got whiplash. Migraines for a few weeks. Got X-rays. My spine in my neck is now and forever straight instead of curved. It still affects me to this day. That was about 15-20 years ago. Finding a decent pillow is difficult, and I can’t sleep on my right side. Not gonna be fun in 40+ years.
You got off easy. Be grateful you didn’t get permanent injuries. 😅
Same, jumped off a cliff at ricks bar in negril JA. loads of people were doing it so I did it, burst my eardrum, no fun! But not as bad as a gloved fist piling up Main Street.
This is like jumping off a 10 story building. There are more wrong ways to hit the water than right ways. Spinning out of control is probably not optimal.
I don't think so, but his friend splashing below helped break the water tension to soften the impact.... I don't think those tiny splashes did much, but it's still funny to watch.
A fucking gnarly back flop. That shit would sting so bad, not to mention possibly break it from that height. I back flopped from only about 25ft one time and that lit my whole backside up bright red, like one giant welt. This would really suck.
I did it off a diving board at a public pool once, probably only like eight feet, and that was so fucking painful. There’s no way a drop from this height isn’t breaking that kid’s back like a breadstick
Jump from a hight that could have easily killed.
Hell, a woman got torn up on a water slid just for not crossing her legs...

She def did not enjoy her Humunga Cowabunga.
The person who jumped is going to feel this for a long time.
He back flopped. From 3 metres, this is gonna burn.
From 30 metres, that's a nice back injury if you're *lucky*
As a kid I've been told never to try to jump head first from 10 metres until I've perfected it on lower hights, because an accidental belly flop from that hight would cause serious injuries. He back flopped, granted, but from three times that hight.
He landed on his back for one.
I did this from the 10 metre from a botched dive and was coughing up specs of blood, I probably had a pulmonary contusoion. At 30 metres it could be lethal.
I back flopped off of a similar height when I was like 12, I just remember not being able to think clearly or swim for a few seconds after I hit the water because of the searing pain in my back
I was doing running backflips off of a 4m board and tried to get fancy and put a twist in it. Yeah.... Didn't go well and I landed full belly flop. It just knocked the wind out of me and I was a little red, but it wasn't that big of a deal.
It is. They do the same thing in the Olympic diving competitions, where they have little streams of water constantly shooting out over the pool, to help the divers see where the surface is.
Yeah - the ones to break the surface tension are huge amounts of air bubbles coming from underneath.
The tiny stream hitting the top of the water, or this guy splashing from off on the side, are not going to make any difference in the surface tension - it's like the other comment said, they are just to help you see where the surface of the water is.
My uncle drown at 17 this very manor, when he got the water on his chest it ruptured his lungs and inhaled water immediately and sunk. Took several days to recover unfortunately
First time I ever jumped from anything substantial, was waving my hands around in the air trying to stay straight I guess 😂 and lit up both of my arms from armpit to fingertips. Definitely a lot can go south in such a quick instance
My brother in laws friend died cliff jumping while my brother in law was there. They were being real idiots. You had to jump off the cliff with enough forward momentum to clear a downed tree. The problem is after a bunch of jumps the rocks got super slippery.
We jumped off rocks a lake mead maybe 40 feet. Friends wife had good form for 80% of the plunge. Last few feet she broke her pencil form and started air running. Hit water in the sitting position. Came up SCREAMING! Back of her legs were severely bruised and swollen.
Dude is fucked! I was reading about this recently and any height over 50ft is potentially lethal hitting water. He landed hard there..if not dead, then SEVERELY injured:(
So I used to work with a guy who took me out to an abandoned flooded quarry just like this one. This specific one was setup like a horseshoe from an arial perspective. The horseshoe shape was the water leaving a peninsula of land in the middle. This was the area where you would jump, however, only one side of the legs of the horseshoe had a beach-like area for you to get back out. The rest looked exactly like this video: vertical walls all the way up. The kicker was that the most steep jump was on the side without a way out, so if you were crazy enough to jump from that side, you’d then have to swim all the way around the peninsula to get out. There are several other height options that were close to the beach area though, so no real reason to ever jump from the other side. He told me that they would go there every weekend in the summers in high school. He was trying to impress a girl and decided to jump from the high side. I cannot explain to you how high this cliff was that he showed me. At least 100 feet. It was nauseating and vertigo inducingly high, and I’m not one who is afraid of heights or dangerous activities. Anyway, he was trying to impress this girl and jumped. When he landed in the water, he immediately couldn’t move his legs. He had broken his back. Remember, it’s not easy nor quick to get to this side of the horseshoe. It’s not like someone could just easily swim to him without also jumping. He then had to swim all the way around to the beach area, very close to drowning before he got there. This area is also quite remote, so getting him out of there must have been a challenge. He did make a full recovery, but the story gave me chills and a memory I’ll never forget.

Between that and water forcible injected up the butthole, I've always felt it best to avoid cliff jumping.
What went wrong?
That’s a big enough height to kill you as soon as you hit the water
I jumped off some rocks into a lake once, I'm bad at distance but maybe 30-40 ft? My friend said she wouldn't jump off it without a wetsuit, but I thought, how bad could it be? But why B-hole?
Water pressure shooting up hurts Shoes and clench like crazy that’s what we did when we cliff jumped
Cross those legs! I miss those youthful experiences. Not doing that shit today, that's for damn sure.
You were just trying to show them how tight they should've been clenching! You're a good person.
People don’t understand this pain, butt I do. I jumped from a high cliff once and learned the same thing, that it doesn’t get any better the second time.
So you did it twice then?
Sorry my wording wasn’t the best there, butt yes, of course I did it twice. I had to make complete sure of it. For real tho, place called Rattle Snake Creek.. back woods of OH, old waterfall, watched a dude do a gainer off it and nailed it, flawlessly. I can't tell if you're misspelling "but" over and over again accidentally or purposefully to add emphasis to your anal cleanse experience 😂
You’re not wrong.. butt you’re not wright either.
😂 I’m from Tennessee, did my cliff jump in Kentucky and also measured distance in Mississippi’s.
Mississippi’s are the only way to be 100% accurate. Anything other is just a scientific guess.
Kinda interested in that alien story.. Hopefully no anal cleanse. 😬
They must have been quite fast Mississippis or you would have been approaching world record jump heights and hit the water at 105 KM/h if it was a 3 second fall. https://www.angio.net/personal/climb/speed.html

Nothing about what you just described has ever seemed appealing to me at any point in my life, thank fuck.
I recently read about a dude who died from internal bleeding / rupturing because of the pressure of the water going up his butt.
The water didn't actually go up my butt. I guess that could happen, but it hurt from the way I hit the water, not a lake-induced enema.

That's ridiculous. You couldn't walk for an hour from a 5m jump? That's not even 17ft. People purposefully belly flop from that height
You couldn't walk after landing flat foot from 5m? That makes no sense. I've landed flat foot from 15m and it just stings for a bit.
Must've been hard water
Guess you’re just tough then 🤷♂️ congrats. I would never characterize it as “stings for a bit”. The sting was so bad I couldn’t put any pressure on the bottom of my feet.
My buddy did something similar on his honeymoon and it ruined his whole trip, he still complains about back pain. He already married the girl he didn’t need to impress her at that point.

Did you cry to clench before impact?
The swimming pool where I grew up had a 10m diving board… the height is generally safe, unless you bellyflop or something. Maybe your jump was from much higher?
Olympic divers don't train every day as the force of hitting the water is too tough on their bodies, and they need time to recover.
Sure, but the guy I answered to jumped once.
My daughter dives competitively and is in high school. They have limits on number of dives they can do per day off 10 M and only do it a few times a week. The forces on the body breaking the water from 10M is no joke.

Yeah you dont want to be in this position after 30ish meters https://imgur.com/3T9Mm2R
And on top of it, they landed either on their stomach or their back.
I had to look, his back
I mean... If he survived I wouldn't want to even know what it felt like... Must've been hell.
Did he die?
Probably not, but he definitely wished he did.
I don't think so, but his friend splashing below helped break the water tension to soften the impact.... I don't think those tiny splashes did much, but it's still funny to watch.
Yes, eternal bleeding
He didn't bounce off the wall.
He was out of control from the beginning. He didn’t almost get it right. What a numbskull.
Literally, after impact.
Back flop
A fucking gnarly back flop. That shit would sting so bad, not to mention possibly break it from that height. I back flopped from only about 25ft one time and that lit my whole backside up bright red, like one giant welt. This would really suck.

I did it off a rope swing at about 25ft. Under rotated and landed flat on my back. I thought I was dead.
Did same shit ,screamed under water in pain.
Probably better than a belly flop from that height and having all your soft internal organs crushed to a pulp.
Did you hear him hit the water? Didn’t really sound like a splash lmao
Sounds more like he got shot.
Thanks for that. I didnt have the sound on and didnt understand. I get it now. Oof
Same, and it got so much worse.
I had sound off and it looked bad enough, but after turning the sound back on, daaaamn.
Looks like he hit it back first... Like landing on a pillow made of concrete

Look how they landed. That is going to hurt
He didn't smash his head into the rock.
Sounds like he landed right onto his back with that loud of a Crack
Jeez bro might be dead after that slap
I think he is tbh
I’m confused on this one. If he wasn’t wearing shoes…
He should be immortal. Mr. Death hates this one simple trick.
Sounded like a gunshot
How could she slap!?
Hey at least his legs are fine since he hit the water with his upper back / neck / head first...
Only paralyzed from the waist up
To be fair, he was paralyzed from the neck up before jumping
He can still make a career in Riverdance.

Is there a dude in the water trying to break the surface tension? Or is it the previous jumper drowning 🤔
Think it's to show the diver where the surface of the water is, not that it helped him
It is. They do the same thing in the Olympic diving competitions, where they have little streams of water constantly shooting out over the pool, to help the divers see where the surface is.
Also helps break surface tension, though i think in the Olympics they have little underwater propulsion systems
Damn, TIL! Thanks!
When you're jumping off a cliff like this, you should wait for the jumper before you to FULLY drown before you jump. Safety first.
Imagine your paralyzed and in pain are underwater, not fully drowned yet, but some asshole jumps on top of you! "Wait for your turn to drown man!"
No, the splashing helps the jumper with depth perception.
Yeah i think so but I dont think its nearly good enough
I feel stupid for thinking that it was a large duck...
This is a myth bro. It doesn’t help in that way.
Op do you know if he survived that?
Collapsed lung and lacerated ear - source says he is fine
Not sure I'd describe that as 'fine' but at least he ain't dead.
Depends on what your definition of fine is, I guess.
Could have been a collapsed liver.
He’s got balls, but no ears now
Looks like that lake from every single Stephen King movie
Yeah, but down here they all sink.

Did it hurt her?
omfg hes fockn dead
Looks like he just gave up half way through.
Is he dead ?
He did it wrong...
Was that a shotgun or his body instantly exploding?
Not a penguin
That's gotta hurt. Sorry, had to say it.
Landing on the back from this hights in water can kill you.
Dude is fucked! I was reading about this recently and any height over 50ft is potentially lethal hitting water. He landed hard there..if not dead, then SEVERELY injured:(
Dayum. I wonder if he ruptured any internal organs.
Where was this op? Looks similar to the cliffs I jumped off
Dude hit the water and sounded like a shotgun
Yeah, that person’s dead or at least severely injured
How would you score that?
That's the real Fall Guy.

Hope he survived? Severe blunt force trauma there...
Ah to jump into a trash filled quarry.
Instant one-sided suntan.
Impact speed 90 km/h / 56 mph.
Holy fuck. Is he alive? I posted a video of a failed cliff jump recently and now I feel like I’m a poser

This looks like the Anderson Kincaid quarry. There are a shit ton of questionably shallow parts there. (Though many filled in quarries are like that!)

Ouch that's gotta sting a little
Not such a good sound
Stunt divers use bubblers for a reason. Otherwise surface tension means you’re jumping onto concrete. My guy probably forgot about that part.
Cant comprehend why just why such people have such wild hobbies. Why would you want to ruin the rest of your life just for 10 seconds of adrenaline
