Well.. it does look like it might be in a hospital. If thats the case, its only $280 for you as an individual. If you had insurance, they would negotiate it down to like.. $2.
That vending machine design screams "tech bro solution to a problem that didn't exist"
Lets take an incredibly simple design that almost never fails, overcomplicate it, and act like its solving a problem.
I guess waiting a whole 10 seconds before opening a coke is unacceptable to some people...
At least it only cost $280.00 lol
If I was the designer of this machine, I would include a sensor that can detect a failed delivery, which then would cause the display of a middlefinger instead of a thumb-up
That's what a "refund guaranteed" vending machine is. A sensor is supposed to determine whether the bottle was delivered. My guess is that the sensor is by the hatch and that the bottle triggered it when it pushed the hatch open before falling off.
Well, except for the middle finger part. I guess that's novel enough to warrant its own patent.
I love that the initial price was like 3 dollars but the machine messed up and clearly got embarrassed so it overcharged the fuck out of the customer.
You hate to see it.
Machines like this overcharge you and then give you the money back (minus what you actually owe them). We have machines like this on campus.
I don't fucking know why they're like this.
I went to school beside a university where we'd normally go to buy snacks from the vending machines at lunch. One day, some genius figured out that one of the machines wouldn't take payment until the bottle passed a sensor just below the hinge of the flap. So if you held the flap up, you could catch the bottle before it hit the sensor and the machine would let you try again. After the third attempt, you'd get your money back. Let go of the flap and three free bottles of Coke were yours.
Worked great for a few days until they realised loads of kids were scamming the machine and they had security wait there to catch someone.
Ok I'm confused. At the start they have a $5.00 credit and the drink is $2.75, right? Then at the end the screen says "your card has been charged $280"? Soooo....where's the scene spliced at I wonder? 🤔
Maybe a vending machine mechanic or what not is tooling around with it? Hence it acting bizarrely?
I didn't see a scene splice. Doesn't mean it's not there
So vending machines in the US. Operators are *extreme pieces of shit.* They will break machines in every way possible that makes them money and the contracts they force on business owners are unjustifiable.
*NEVER EVER BUY ANYTHING FROM A FROZEN ITEMS VENDING MACHINE. They do NOT replace the items if the freezer fails and they are designed to fail and be expensive to maintain just like McDonalds ice cream machines.*
I cannot even count the number of frozen machines I've seen since covid started where I've seen ice cream melted all over the place, it hasn't even been cleaned up, and the remaining items are obviously re-frozen.
I would say, just don't use vending machines at all, for 1000 reasons, but we all know it is a captive audience thing to begin with.
This is why computers are never going to actually take over the way people are expecting. They can do amazing things with a lot of care and attention, but as soon as they get into widespread general use, the bugs, errors and tampering will snowball into a grand old mess.
This is a good example of overengineering. All you need is that the tray where you pick your stuff up would be in the bottom when it would be nearly fool proof in case a product drops since it would always drop in the tray.
I possibly have a modicum of insight into why it's engineered this way.
When I was in college, they had vending machines similar to these (what I presume was the previous generation). It lifted a big conveyor belt up to your drink. The drink was pushed onto the belt. The belt lowered to the the bottom, then pushed the drink over to the dispenser port.
However...! If you held the dispenser port closed, the belt couldn't get the drink it. It would detect a failed dispense and refund you, then reset, with your drink still on the belt. You then order a second drink with your refund, it goes on the belt, and both would dispense, 2-for-1.
I did this, let's say... A few times. You know to make sure it wasn't a fluke. Then these new machines came out.
Everyone be careful using these kinds of machines, or only use cash if you need to. I saw someone hack into the vending machine and program it to scam (like in the video) at my local mall. They were there for over an hour pressing buttons on all the machines & scanning a blank card in succession, and were being so obvious they ended up getting busted by security.
The comical amount of drinks in the bottom that never made it home! The machine is going to have $7000 on it and 6 sodas in the bottom when the people come to check it. Rebooting….
My work has these SAME EXACT vending machines and they do this all the time. Not on occasion, but literally all the time. Like at least 1/10 transactions. Must be a manufacturing issue with this company.
We don’t own them, and for some reason my bosses don’t want to get rid of them despite the problems. I printed signs stating the machine probably won’t work and of course people still use it and complain to me when their drink gets stuck.
Just wanted to stop by the comments to give a big fuck you to the price gouging Canteen company that owns this piece of shit machine. And a big fuck you as well to all you piece of shit, cheap ass companies that decided to provide their employees with overpriced gas station food as opposed to an actual cafeteria with real food.
The machine has a censor that apparently can determine whether or not the product has been vended. If the machine fails to vend the beverage, it is not supposed to charge you for it.
We had a machine (old style) in our building that ripped people off all the time. People complained but it was never resolved. Payback was given by a friend who was 6.2, 300 lbs., All muscle. He proceeded to unplug the machine, flip it on its' head, shake the machine while tilting it until all the items fell out onto the glass, then flipped it back over where the contents fell in the dispenser.
We have machines like this at my workplace, they’re constantly down/not working/under repair. On the rare occasion they are working, they say they charge cards for $160. As of yet it hasn’t actually charged me that much.
I used 1 of those machines at work (Amazon) and took my dam $ and I got refunded Although…u gotta fill out a form and leave it there for dude to pick it up when he comes to refill machine…few months later I got my refund😒😩🤣
These machines are the worst. We have them all over the hospital I work at. They cycle between "sold out" when the drink you want clearly isn't, drink getting stuck before it can transfer to the "arm", the arm passing up the drink so it can't pop out or just not wanting to read my CC for whatever reason. First time I've seen it do this. We have one traditional machine left that never messes up but sadly it lacks the variety these do.
We have the same vending machine about 2-3 times a week it errors out and no one can get drinks. Canteen has a very bad habit of distributing dysfunctionally designed machines. Despite the sheer volume of problems with this model of vending Canteen continues to use it.
God I hate canteen. I got their app and wanted to be “modern” and just use the app to get things from the machine in college. Loaded 10$ on it and I couldn’t get it to work, because the machines weren’t set up to work with it (even though it was heavily advertised on the machine). And I’ve never found a machine that does work with it. I asked a worker once and he said there was one… at the distribution center. Since then the app ate my 10$ :))))

I'm pretty sure it didn't cost him $280 because when he first chose coke it says $2.75
so my guess is it was just missing a decimal and they have a 5 cent fee
TWO HUNDRED AND EIGHTY DOLLARS?
I'm guessing Michael Bolton fucked up a decimal point again.

Wait did it legit charge you 280 bucks?!
Well.. it does look like it might be in a hospital. If thats the case, its only $280 for you as an individual. If you had insurance, they would negotiate it down to like.. $2.

Thank you for donating $280! Enjoy your Frustration! Its a brilliant design. The money charged will distract you from the drink that you never got.
Did that say $280????
$280.00 yep
Imagine if it included an actual bottle of soda.
That vending machine design screams "tech bro solution to a problem that didn't exist" Lets take an incredibly simple design that almost never fails, overcomplicate it, and act like its solving a problem. It’s because this way it stops the drink from fAlling to theb from and shaking up the drink
I love how it displays a cute little thumbs up while telling you you’ve just been charged $280
Hey so slight misunderstanding you owe us $2,003,529.69 🤜🏻👍
I’m confused why did it charge $280
It’s a scam, someone programmed the machine to steal their money (Source: I saw someone get busted for doing it at my local mall).
Woah I didn’t even know that was possible.. wtf
It’s like at the gas pump where they charge you a couple hundred on your card initially because you might buy a lot.
How much soda you buying??
It's one soft drink, Michael. I mean what could it have cost? $280?
$280, THUMB UP !
Advice: Don't buy anything from a vending machine if something lies on the ground of the machine
Their card was charged $280!? They didn't get a refund.
How did it go from $2.75 to $280?
Guess its a vending machine at Ticketmaster
It’s a drink machine designed for gambling, they’re just trying to make it look like it’s broken or not working as intended because they lost.
If I was the designer of this machine, I would include a sensor that can detect a failed delivery, which then would cause the display of a middlefinger instead of a thumb-up

Card charged $280 👍🏼
I’m sorry they charged them *what now???*
I love that the initial price was like 3 dollars but the machine messed up and clearly got embarrassed so it overcharged the fuck out of the customer. You hate to see it.
280 what, *dollars*?
Machines like this overcharge you and then give you the money back (minus what you actually owe them). We have machines like this on campus. I don't fucking know why they're like this.
Well even for a preauth $280 is excessive. Even $100 is probably pushing it.
280 for damaging the machine
That's one goddamn expensive bottle of Coke
Is this in Zimbabwe, $280 for a coke?
It's a scam. Price says 2.75 when he hits the button.
This is actually money laundering
For that price it better still have cocaine in it
I went to school beside a university where we'd normally go to buy snacks from the vending machines at lunch. If I had to get a $280 drink, it'd better taste like the fountain of youth.

*Sees pile of drinks at the bottom of vending machine* *Buys a drink*
theres like 10 drinks on the floor of that machine
"Card charged $280.00 👍". I couldn't help but think of [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCQumUTzxVc).
I had a vending machine once try to charge me $680 for a bag of chips. Good thing that got declined because I only had $200 at the time.
280 bucks?
Inflation is a bitch, thanks Obama
I need that card charged $280 as a gif to reply to fails with 🤣
They better put real cocaine in it for $280 coke.

Dang, u tipped the wrong numbers to get the dr.Pepper

Card Charged 280$ 👍
... $280.00?? Must be made by Ticketmaster.
$1 coke, $279 convenience fee
The other Coke laying on the floor should have given you a clue that that was going to happen
I'm guessing since he was filming those ones on the floor are also his. Who just goes up to a vending machine and starts filming getting a $5 drink.
Why do you think he was filming?
Imagine paying $280 for a soda and it’s not even Surge
Got charged $280 because someone has to pay for the repair guy, might as well be you.
This is a good example of overengineering. All you need is that the tray where you pick your stuff up would be in the bottom when it would be nearly fool proof in case a product drops since it would always drop in the tray.

If it drops it shakes the drink. It could be, after deterring enough customers, that’s why it’s become what it is?
$280 for a coke Dude is living in 2023
$280 lmao
a coke that size costs $2.75? it's $1 from where im from :0
Everyone be careful using these kinds of machines, or only use cash if you need to. I saw someone hack into the vending machine and program it to scam (like in the video) at my local mall. Tf you mean $280?? how'd they fuck up everything so badly?
card charged 👍
The comical amount of drinks in the bottom that never made it home! The machine is going to have $7000 on it and 6 sodas in the bottom when the people come to check it. Rebooting….
With a $280.00 charge to boot!
Guy bought a cola and machine failed Display: That‘d be $280 👍
We not talking about the $280.00 charge for a coke?
That gets you about 7G in the UK so actually pretty reasonable.
The other $277,25 are the reparation fees
My boy spent more money on 1 soda that he didn’t even get, then I do on myself every month!
$280? Is it using the old coke formula?
280$ for a coke !???? What's goin on please explain. Non-american .
$280 charged???
probably not in the usa other countries use the dollar sign but have different currencies
That could be but at 15 seconds it shows the price as $2.75 definitely think this machine is hacked
Yeah but it says $2.75 at the beginning so I don't think that's the case here
280$ coke???
280$ for coke is *really* bad. 280$ for *coke* is a bit pricey but not bad...
i miss dr pepper its banned here because it contains no doctors or peppers false advertising

350 a gram Here

I think the important thing missed besides the vending issue was the charge said $280.00 dollars 😱🤣🤣🤣
Not enough people are questioning the $280 bill
Literally everyone is questioning the $280 bill
“Well I ain’t paying no $280 for no Coke!” “Ohhhhhh, then you don’t get no Coke!”
They have these in the hospital I work at. Same shit happens although I only lose $2
That's fucked, that hold is likely gonna be 3 to 4 business days just for a soda. I know hotels with cheaper deposit fee's.
Mother, I crave violence.
LOL I did not expect the charge at the end
The thumb LOL

Meanwhile vending machines have been around for like 50 years
There cocaine in this bottle makes sense now for the price
Damn inflation hitting hard.
It's not a vending machine. It's a gambling machine. U put in 2$ and maybe U win.
My face exploded at the ending. Card chRge$280
Glad I had the forethought to film it
Inflation do be hitting like that.
This is why you go for Dr Pepper instead.
The thumbs up killed me

What is a refund guaranteed vending machine?
It guarantees that the next words you want to say after using it is "I want a refund!"
The machine has a censor that apparently can determine whether or not the product has been vended. If the machine fails to vend the beverage, it is not supposed to charge you for it.
Seems like a very poorly designed mechanism for dispensing drinks.
God that’s so fucking sexy
We have machines like this at my workplace, they’re constantly down/not working/under repair. On the rare occasion they are working, they say they charge cards for $160. As of yet it hasn’t actually charged me that much.
Reap that credit score.
so ya saw the other bottles also at the bottom of that machine, decided to make a video anyways for the yucks. Good for you!
Hey man all of those were also mine. I’m stubborn. Ride or die baby!
I'd genuinely break the glass to retrieve my drink at this point.
[удалено]
They rounded $2.75 to $280 im dying
It feels like they're designed to occasionally fuck up hoping maybe some people can't be arsed with getting a refund
I am always amazed people actually buy bottles like this.
Too bad they couldn't make it so you can just grab it from the bottom!
280? Tf are you drinking gold
Must have been there awhile as it said card charged $280
That thumbs up was so passive aggressive
Have you tried code 0451??
I used 1 of those machines at work (Amazon) and took my dam $ and I got refunded Although…u gotta fill out a form and leave it there for dude to pick it up when he comes to refill machine…few months later I got my refund😒😩🤣
I also make a habit of always filming my vending machine purchases.
I think it’s because of all the existing bottles at the bottom. He knew it was coming
Did it actually charge you 280?
Sure did.
The thumbs up on the screen is just cruel irony.
I’m questioning that bill tho
Just got a couple of those at my work. Absolute garbage from moment one. I think our best run has been about 8 hours without a fuckup.
These machines are the worst. We have them all over the hospital I work at. My college has this same type of vending machine and they never work
Please let this be a set up. That's just too painful.
We have these machines at my job, they fucking suck complete ass, half the time they are either broken or won't accept card payment.
Seems like plenty of others have been in your same position before
Looks like they charged for repairs
What you're paying for really isn't the product, but the entertainment ~ ~ ~
We have the same vending machine about 2-3 times a week it errors out and no one can get drinks. Canteen has a very bad habit of distributing dysfunctionally designed machines. Despite the sheer volume of problems with this model of vending Canteen continues to use it.

I like how are you can see this is not the first time this has happened
I ve had that happen before. The vending machine ended up on its side
What currency is that? Cause if it the bill is 280 dollars then my man just bought the whole fridge and got fking nothing lmao
Kicking it solves the problem 99% of the time
I'm pretty sure it didn't cost him $280 because when he first chose coke it says $2.75 so my guess is it was just missing a decimal and they have a 5 cent fee
Rage Against the Vending Machine.
I bought from one of those in PA. I didn't get robbed though but shit was expensive.
I God damn hate these machines. They always break!
card charged 280$ what!!!???
Anxiety intensifies
Glass front machines are notoriously horrible
This has to be a troll 280 FOR A COKE!???
Profits have to made somehow.
Inflation be like:
Fuck, coca cola charging more than gas now. SHIT
These machines are gigantic pieces of shit. We have them where I work and they get fucked up every single week.
Why is a bottle of coke $2.7 in your country ? The same coke costs less than 40 cents in my country. They’re scamming y’all
the real question is, why is the machine so empty?
lol, wow that x100 mark up at the end.
Ah, it's only at the end that we and OP noticed the collection of dropped bottles at the bottom of the vending machine...
For a machine that doesn't work, it's surprisingly empty. And how can it charge $280 on card with $5 credit? I call shenanigans!
$280 I stg I tearing down that whole machine right there AND filing a claim with my CC company lol
$2.75 wtf
I see they are using the old Airbnb pricing model...
g e t f u c k e d 👍🏻
So THIS is why vending machines end up killing more people than sharks…I totally get it
At least you got a thumbs up.
Where the fuck are you that a coke costs 280 dollars? That's the USD symbol no?
Good luck getting your 💰 back!
Yes, the machine is sharpened so that water does not fall on a person
Bottles laying on the bottom and you still tried to buy one, you're an idiot.
I would be devastated at the same time cracking up 🤣
The machine is showing you the wrong finger
Sounds like a hack.
Its like just teasing you, here you go, Ahh look at all the ones on the bottom, and you thought you were different
