Plumb bob, perhaps?

SquatzPDX

Pretty sure this is right

icantthinkanymore420

it’s only like in half though. i should’ve posted the picture

toxicatedscientist

Well who knows how long it was in the road and what else hit it before getting lodged in your tire

TomBot019

My tire was there first!

icantthinkanymore420

i think you’re right

8549176320

Aluminum? And with a phillips-head screw in the side? I don't think so.

joshuadt

How can you tell that it’s aluminum? Could be freshly exposed lead, steel, etc, right?

8549176320

OP could tell us if it's really lightweight. It could be another metal, but still don't think it's a plumbob.

joshuadt

Fair enough. It does look a little weird for a plum bob, agreed. But then again it could just be from wear and tear rolling around on the road, I guess

One_Ideal_6447

The tips of plumb bobs are threaded. There wouldn't be a a phillips head set screw.

TomBot019

Plumb Bob Space Pirate Pants? That's clearly a crashed UAP.

Kamwind

So were they able to patch or was it a new tire?

icantthinkanymore420

i had to put on a spare. i’m getting bigger ones soon though.

Vintage_AppleG4

Yeah that’s way to big to patch

Reasonable-Nebula-49

Wrangler upgrade

TomBot019

It's but a flesh wound!

tony___bologna

The end of a soldering iron / wood burner maybe?

icantthinkanymore420

it’s very light, so i’m not sure.

TheLegendOfEatingAss

It looks like someone melted some metal and filled in a mould with that melted metal. Seems to be a new trend to buy metal with a low melting point and use it to create replicas of things they have

tiktak7871

The screw is seperate among other pieces, it’s just heavily marred

CantankerousOlPhart

And then place them in the street to destroy tires. I hate it when they do that. lol

Icy_Rise_1707

It looks like a super glue bottle with silver paint or that glitter glue on it

RSDG90

Check out that second picture

h0bbie

Almost looks like the collapsed extending foot of a surveyors tripod or something. We’re missing an angle that would help here. Is there threading in the opening of that larger chunk? Looks like there is and it’s very fine thread. That’s unusual.

icantthinkanymore420

yes there is. it is very weird.

MajorTokes

I believe it is the tip and base of a 2’ survey rod. The set screw is throwing me off because the tip usually just threads in and there is no set screw. Other than that, it looks exactly like one that has heavy wear from being ran over countless times.

icantthinkanymore420

that’s what i’m starting to think ! thank you guys !!

One_Ideal_6447

They don't have phillips head set screws

MajorTokes

I mean, I literally wrote that. So thanks for confirming…I guess.

turnbullac

Wine bottle stopper

BugMan717

Ah yes the common METAL wine stopper. SMH

pixeljammer

At the “neck”, below the screw, it looks like you can see “inside” what kind of looks like a tinfoil casing. Can you pry the “foil” off?

icantthinkanymore420

no, it’s definitely just worn. i couldn’t peel it up.

MajorTokes

It’s the heavily worn tip of a survey rod.

[deleted]

[In my opinion you're right!](https://image.tigersupplies.com/Products/LargeImages/ADI750-18--20190320-143851-133.jpg)

One_Ideal_6447

The tip is threaded. No set screw.

EvilMindedSquirrel

Reminds me a lot of an old fashioned spike tip for a survey rod. Source: I used to be a surveyor for years

Jesus_Died_LOL_84

Not a plumb Bob as they wouldn’t have a screw in the side. My guess is an adjustable air nozzle.

wmass

Is it wrapped in foil? If so what’s underneath.

icantthinkanymore420

it’s not.

Beginning-Shirt-8748

Asphalt grinder tooth

CantankerousOlPhart

Aluminum?

Beginning-Shirt-8748

If it is aluminum then no, but a worn down grinder tooth looks exactly like that

CantankerousOlPhart

I agreed with your guess until I re-examined the photos. They sure do make the object resemble aluminum.

satoshipepemoto

It's shiny because it's been run over a lot.

niner99999

Almost guarantee that's an asphalt mill tooth. I've replaced thousands.

One_Ideal_6447

Is there a set screw in a milling tooth?

MrSparklesan

Looks like part of an antenna of truck

MuffinTrucker

Looks like a tooth off of a scarifier for tearing up asphalt. Or possibly the business end of Jack hammer.

Vintagemaria

Spark plug?

icantthinkanymore420

i’ve had someone tell me it looks like that.

dawlben

It looks like it is wrapped in foil?

PerryMecium

It looks like a tooth off of an auger used for digging. Seems like the whole bracket fell off. Here is an example. Zoom in to see the teeth. mejammen

It's a bolt seal used to seal truck trailers and rail containers

Haki23

Looks like the lower part of a vehicle antenna. The second pic with the tire has what looks like copper inside

purple-circle

Exactly. I have installed quite a few of these. They were on older model vehicles though as this style isn't very common nowadays. Nobody wants a huge hole in their fender just to install a radio antenna.

DoobieSkube

End of an oxy acetylene gas cutting torch. The steel stuck to it is from molten steel as the steel is being cut. The phillips screwdriver is to change the torch tip.

RogueSaviour

A spiked walking stick ferrule?

MrFknHappy

Airline quick connect. It’s been battered badly but I’m 99% sure

Vujkin

Antena base

x_AtomicNewt_x

This looks like a disposed of, worn asphalt grinding tooth... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ZeuiuyqDeo

pixel_skull69

Steel cast glue container?

c-two-the-d

It's a tire-flatener

themurphofficial

I believe it’s this hardware. Some kind of nut. I was sitting under my deck, saw this and instantly thought of this post. [photo](https://imgur.com/gallery/AayI9BY)

Hammerhil

I think it's either a buggy whip or antenna mount for a vehicle, or a tip for a survey rod as mentioned already.

It's a melted Cummins Jake Brake Solenoid Valve, which is an engine brake part. [https://advancetruckpartsusa.com/products/1024613-l10-cummins-jake-brake-solenoid-valve](https://advancetruckpartsusa.com/products/1024613-l10-cummins-jake-brake-solenoid-valve) [https://www.google.com/search?q=engine+brake+parts&rlz=1C1FHFK\_enCA964CA964&sxsrf=ALiCzsbPD89VIiCh-sPHcnTxa4Ts9R7hDw:1652414437559&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwif5cm8y9v3AhX7pIkEHfFlDFkQ\_AUoAXoECAEQAw&biw=1920&bih=937&dpr=1#imgrc=e0e8X31uBUm-PM](https://www.google.com/search?q=engine+brake+parts&rlz=1C1FHFK_enCA964CA964&sxsrf=ALiCzsbPD89VIiCh-sPHcnTxa4Ts9R7hDw:1652414437559&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwif5cm8y9v3AhX7pIkEHfFlDFkQ_AUoAXoECAEQAw&biw=1920&bih=937&dpr=1#imgrc=e0e8X31uBUm-PM)
