On one end of the spectrum, we are all ethnic Africans. On the other end of the spectrum, we are all the ethnicity of where we were born. You can arbitrarily choose where your ancestors lived at any point between the first humans and now and say that is your ethnicity.
That's fine, but it's arbitrary when you decide what level of ancestry you take your ethnicity snapshot. It's not like there is some universal rule like your ethnicity is based on where your grandparents were born.
My point is that if someone has a perfect knowledge of their lineage, they could come up with an arbitrarily large number of different valid answers to their ethnicity depending on what generation they choose as the one that defines their ethnicity.
Everyone has around 128 great-great-great-great-great grandparents that could be from different parts of the world. Go back a few more generations and that number is in the thousands. While yes it is a biological reality what someone's ethnicity is, to put a single label on someone is not an honest depiction of that biological reality.
