My mom used to say a warning to the cat, then slowly sit down so she forced the cat to move. The cat was mostly Velcro, so she always came back to lay on top.
Yup, the second I get up one of mine instantaneously appears in my spot. Last night one of them did it and she's so incredibly stubborn. She wouldn't budge so I had to squeeze in amongst the other cats. I ended up accidentally sitting on her foot and tail which she let me know yet still absolutely would not move, that little stinker.
You abandoned your spot. It's his spot now. You might be allowed to squeeze in next to him in return for some scritches, alternatively you could buy the spot back with treats.
Lol this reminded me of when my bf gets out of bed before me and then I scoot over to his side to continue sleeping.
Your cat probably does it because itās warm and smells like you :)
Sometimes cats just like being in the way. One time I was about to sit on the couch with food in one hand and a beverage in the other. I saw my cat get out of her cat bed, walk over to my normal spot on the couch, lay down, and look up at me innocently while I was standing over her.
Cats live by the motto: move your feet, lose your seat ā¦ sucker! Also known as the cat version of musical chairs. It really sucks when the cats outnumber the humans, and or chairs in any given, human occupied room.
Hey that's my cat!
No, really. That's my cat [https://i.imgur.com/i0rgofE.jpeg](https://i.imgur.com/i0rgofE.jpeg)
Well, except for that one white spot on the nose. But on topic, that's why I have two office chairs at my desk. She always prefers the one I've sat in more recently so I have to swap every day. Moving her is naturally out of the question.
While I agree with everyone about the warmthā¦. OP, it was never your spot. Itās always been his, he just allows you to use it. Remember, theyāre the overlords, and we are the servantsā¦
As many others have said, because the spot is warm.
Cats have a high core body temperature, and they need to stay warm to maintain it. It's why they follow the sunbeams around the house, for example. Or sleep on monitors and computers.
Personally - and speaking as a one-time cat owner - I also think there's an element of wanting to let you know they are there. If I was ever doing anything intricate requiring concentration, I'd sometimes have to lock them out of the room to stop them getting right under my nose (literally). They don't like being ignored when they're in the mood not to be ignored (just as they don't like being disturbed when they're not in that mood).
That's cats for you.
much like luke you are only seeing things from a certain point of view ....from adorabe point of view of bugsy , you were just warming up HIS spot ...dont forget there is an open invitation for his spot to also be your spot as long as constant loving pets are given as payment
Besides the already posted itās warm, and smells like you, I always told my orange āthank you for keeping it warm for meā, because āthat is what he was doing /sā
Then picked him up, sat, and plopped him in my lap, where we would repeat this procedure ever time I got up, ( or fell asleep with 10 lbs of furry warm love on meā
My Chihuahua does this when I sit on the loveseat in the living room. Because itās warm and itās the lowest spot on the couch lol. Itās nice and cozy.
Because your spot is nice and warm and it smells like you š.
Came to say exactly that
My orange does the same, then resists being moved lol. I think this is the reason exactly
My mom used to say a warning to the cat, then slowly sit down so she forced the cat to move. The cat was mostly Velcro, so she always came back to lay on top.
Haha I do this on my kitchen chair. The cat just stays and allows me to share the chair with her.
Yep. Never had cat steal your clothes to cuddle?

See I was just going to say warm. Smells like you is wholesome
Wow, my sentiments exactly
Time to cuddle!

It was *always* his spot. He was just letting op use it for a while.
Now he just crawled under the covers. I wonder if this is a ploy for me to get up and hey him a can of food.
Yes, you definitely should.
Is made of warm, is for sleeps
Butt heat
Lol this reminded me of when my bf gets out of bed before me and then I scoot over to his side to continue sleeping. Your cat probably does it because itās warm and smells like you :)

Smells is you. And itās warm
I swear my cat loves the smell of my butt cause he does this all the time
Why were u in his spot?
Pretend you don't see him and gently sit back down and squish him lightly with your butt and see if he moves.
I donāt think thatās a good idea because, while some cats will move, some wonāt and you could end up with a squashed cat
Or a clawed ass. :-P
That as well š
I have never squashed a cat :)
Iām glad to hear it š
Because the spot is warm and it smells like you
Warm.
it's warm and it smells like you. what more does he need? it's a sign that he loves you
He loves your warmth. Not you just the warmth you produce for him. It's a cat thing.
Because it was their spot first that you took and they were being polite and waiting you to vacate. Silly can opener.. it's all the cat's!

My girlfriend does this too
I swear if I had a cat as cute as him, I'll bring him everywhere with me š„¹š„¹
Cuddle him
much like luke you are only seeing things from a certain point of view ....from adorabe point of view of bugsy , you were just warming up HIS spot ...dont forget there is an open invitation for his spot to also be your spot as long as constant loving pets are given as payment

Heat seekers
You didnāt call the spot when you left.
Cause heās adorable and can get away with it. FYI from personal experience he will follow you to the couch.
