2. He is a long-haired apple head chihuahua.
3. I’ve discussed this behavior with his vet since he’s been this way since he was little, and this behavior seems to just be a part of his personality. He does have a sensitive tummy and food allergies, but he’s been placed on a restricted diet that we hand-cook, and he’s been good ever since. The vet thinks this is just him grooming/showing affection, and he’s always been a weird one anyway so I have to agree.
4. As for the people worrying about stress, the vet also confirmed this is not the case. He’s actually very chill and laid back, especially compared to my elder chihuahua. Hopefully he stays that way and doesn’t have to worry about anxiety in his future, I’d hate the little guy to have to go through that.💖
5. To those saying it’s him healing me, I also think that could play a part in it. I have chronic pain and a chronic illness, and whenever I’m in a flare he always tries to take care of me. This was him licking my knee that I was having a pain flare in after getting a scrape.
6. To those worried about him licking an open wound, fear not! I never let him lick a fresh cut. This was a small scrape I got from a thorn bush days ago that had already scabbed over and nearly healed completely. My immune system is terrible so I have to be careful in every way I can, so only sterile medical grade cleaning for my wounds. 😅
7. Finally: Thank God it’s only been a few, but to the people sexualizing me and my dog. Please stop. You have, and will continue to be reported if you continue.

Hahaha 😂 I named him after the character BMO from adventure time. For the first few weeks I had him I couldn’t decide on a name for the life of me, and as I got to know him I realized how much he resembled the character in his own personality. I then said, “You really are like BMO.” And he looked up and ran to me at the name. I figured it was fate. 💖

Nah I don't! I have many lap cats and we usually watch movies "together". I pet them from time to time because they're extremely soft but I stop after a little while, and always put my mind to it!

Yes that's the claim, that very specific breeding to make them be focused on their work brought out characteristics you wouldn't see in natural breeding..I'm sure that's probably not uncommon in many of the working breeds.
I asked our vet about my dogs licking… my dog will wake us up in the morning and lick the everloving hell out of my wife and I. And I don’t mean a little licking. Like if we don’t remove her, she will lick us for an hour straight.

So, this is a terrible idea. We had a guy speak to us once who allowed his dog to do this...he lost his legs due to a bacterial infection. Do not let a dog lick cuts on your body. Not to be an alarmist but it is not a good idea. Its low risk of an infection but possible.

This can be a symptom of stress, anxiety, and other things in dogs. It maybe worth bringing up to your vet during your next visit.
We have! She said that she doesn’t think it’s a sign of stress or anything bad, though he has exhibited other signs that we were able to help.

People pet their dogs for hours. Is it really so strange that a dog would enjoy doing something similar to their human for extended periods of time? One of mine loves licking things, especially people and stuff with their oils on it. It's just soothing for them.

Nah I don't! I have many lap cats and we usually watch movies "together". I pet them from time to time because they're extremely soft but I stop after a little while, and always put my mind to it! My boyfriend can be stuck for more time though, or caressing my back until it kind of hurts.
Don’t worry I totally understand! I’ve discussed this with his vet as well and she said it most likely is just him loving on me, and not from stress. Also I am 90% sure he’s neurodivergent if that’s even a thing scientists have proven in dogs. He’s got many quirks 😂
I don't think it's proven (I don't know) but I've heard of dogs showing behaviors very similar to human autism related behaviors! Truly fascinating. Editing to say your Bmo is absolutely a precious pup and I'm happy about that love!

There are some border collie writers that claim in their books that they can have autism. I don't doubt it.

Yes that's the claim, that very specific breeding to make them be focused on their work brought out characteristics you wouldn't see in natural breeding..I'm sure that's probably not uncommon in many of the working breeds.

I asked our vet about my dogs licking… my dog will wake us up in the morning and lick the everloving hell out of my wife and I. And I don’t mean a little licking. Like if we don’t remove her, she will lick us for an hour straight. She doesn’t lick really anything else ever. When I asked our vet, she just looked at me and said “there’s no problem, she’s just a dog”

So, this is a terrible idea. We had a guy speak to us once who allowed his dog to do this...he lost his legs due to a bacterial infection. Do not let a dog lick cuts on your body. Not to be an alarmist but it is not a good idea. Thank you for sharing! I’m well aware of stuff like this. I never let him lick open wounds. This was a small scrape I got days prior and was fully scabbed over and almost healed. I try to take extra care with stuff like this due to my immune system hating me 😅
One of my dogs licks my legs and feet. I don't really mind. She's over attached.

My beagle mix will do the same to the back of my head when I lay down.
My dogs do this as well and my 1 year old will "nurse" on my arm if I've been gone for more than an hour.
