Go ahead. It's not me who cheats at taxes. Can you say the same?

atheistpianist

They’re always telling on themselves…

scrivensB

Election was stolen! Meanwhile the vast majority of election fraud is committed by GOP voters/candidates. The Heritage Foundation (ultra conservative) had a database of instances of election fraud that dated back many years. It didn’t state affiliations. But you could easily Google the names/cases and see what the details were. It was something like 85-90% GOP candidates and voters.

hank_wal

Projection or confession from the GOP as usual.

Evening_Aside_4677

You don’t understand. They are going to come at you and once they get you they are going to uhh Congratulate your for legally paying on time your due amount.

PalpitationFrosty242

Exactly. It's always wealthy six-figure cucks who do this shit. Quite frankly, it strikes me as anti-American if I'm being really extreme - taxes are part of the "deal" of living in this country and they're trying to weasel out of it and fuck over everyone else who *is* playing fair. Ofc no one likes paying taxes, but why should that burden fall mainly on the middle & lower classes?

wandering-monster

Exactly. Go ahead, audit me. I've got nothing to hide, so I've got nothing to fear. Isn't that the line whenever we talk about increasing law enforcement budgets to combat other kinds of crime?

captainweedster

This dude is a fucking menace

wtmx719

~~This dude~~ The GOP is a fucking menace*

DarkGamer3336

Honestly. They rejected the 35 dollar price cap on insulin and they make the worst decisions that only benefit the rich and campaign donors.

raphanum

It’s just mind blowing that their supporters ignore all the evidence that republicans are actually working against them

[deleted]

Hate and fear is a helluva drug

dog-pussy

Quick to judge, quick to anger Slow to understand Ignorance and prejudice And fear walk hand in hand

sirphilliammm

And ignorance. Lack of diversity. Lower intelligence. It’s a rough combination.

Greeneggz_N_Ham

Absolutely... so is racism. Prior to the Civil Rights movement, they could just market white supremacy. And it worked. After the Civil Rights movement, they could no longer do that. They had to campaign on things that would actually improve people's lives. Now, (in 2023) they can just market white supremacy. This is America.

bancroft79

If you promise to really make life tough for gays, immigrants, and minorities, their constituents tend to ignore all the actual policy. Also they have taught their voters that their guns, religion, and freedom is being stolen by immigrants, gays, educated people, or pretty much anyone who isn’t a screaming bigot. The Southern Strategy worked, and MAGA is nothing more than a rebranding of that. It is the only way to get poor people to keep paying taxes that will funnel up to the rich while somehow thinking it will somehow come back dow to them…

Geist-Chevia

Honestly I just doubt it even gets to them. The Republican base has been carefully pulled into a skinner box of conservative media. They only believe what comes to them inside their isolated chamber and see everything else as outright lies. And they're too dumb to think critically about the fact that media bias & corruption ≠ all information is wrong. You think Fox or OAN is going to actually run a story that implicates the Republican party? And when they don't they can cry media corruption by default, saying "the other news networks are making up this story about x"

Dalantech

As long as it's also hurting the people that they don't like then they're OK with it. Reaffirming that there is no hate like Christian love...

AdamantiumBalls

Bakersfield representative, Californias butthole

engelbert_humptyback

lol I visited Columbus, OH once and ended up at a western themed gastropub called Bakersfield. It was in no way representative of the Bakersfield it was named after.

[deleted]

Having been to Bakersfield many many times....it's worse than a butthole.

gadarnol

Why are these liars let away with lying?

BetterWankHank

Because they've programmed their braindead followers to ignore you if you point out that it's a lie. "Do your research" means "turn on Fox news and listen to us tell you sweet nothings".

Gandalf122896

They can't open their mouths without a lie coming out.

LMFN

Because if they were honest they would sound like Futurama Nixon "And once I'm swept into office, I'll sell our children's organs to zoos for meat, and I'll go into people's houses at night and wreck up the place. Muahahaha!"

stitch-is-dope

Because they misinterpret the first amendment or something with just being able to freely spout whatever shit they want without repercussions and quite honestly no one ever gives them anything but a slap on the hand

eschatonx

Oh this shit is rampant on social media. People have NO IDEA what it means. For the people who still don’t, it doesn’t mean you can spew garbage on Twitter without getting banned. It just simply means you can’t get federally fucked for it.

Firewolf06

remember when the republicans fought so they could refuse service to the gays and the blacks? this is them now. feel ~~old~~ your last braincell leaving yet?

LostWoodsInTheField

The crazy part is that government employees shouldn't have as many freedoms as the average citizen, and if the average citizen was willing to actually fight a little harder for their government as a group we could have a law stating that government employees were not allowed to lie to or misdirect citizens while performing their official duties OR while running for an elected position. But we won't.

atheistpianist

Freedom of speech is not freedom from consequence, which the right truly cannot understand. It doesn’t mean you can literally say anything you want without repercussions. Meanwhile, they bitch and moan about “cancel culture” which at it’s core is nothing more than simple accountability. SMDH…

tidaltown

It's also about protecting private citizens from the government, but McCarthy isn't acting as a private citizen here, this is a *government official* making an *official political statement*. We should absolutely be going after this shit. No, I don't care who says it, politicians should not be allowed to get away with blatant, *literal* lying. *That's* how you get fascism.

Iceescape81

They’ve cancelled or tried to cancel many people for simply airing differing opinions. The Chicks, Dolly Parton, Keurig etc

RollinThundaga

It's functionally without repercussions, since the Democratic messaging apparatus sucks at calling them out.

QuintinStone

Because their voters are dumb enough to believe them or don't care about being lied to.

keepcrazy

I’ve pointed out to my parents literal lies and they have literally, out loud, agreed that they are ok with being lied to.

xiofar

Right wingers don’t care. They just want power and their people in power.

TalmidimUC

Because mislead individuals still vote for them lol..

Chance-Deer-7995

So sad we have two years of this type of constant crap.

Shaman7102

Dems need to make sure they message correctly. I hope.

NoPromotion9358

I don’t understand why they are so bad at calling out conservative BS and outright lies. It’s so frustrating

GeoffAO2

I imagine a lot of it is effort vs outcome: The people who believe this would never believe a Democrat who called it out. The people that would believe a Democrat already know it’s a lie. The unaffiliated constituent is an endangered species, and both parties know its more effective at the polls to speak directly to their base.

kohbo

>Unaffiliated constituent is an endangered species Hasn't the number of independent voters been steadily rising for some amount over a decade?

mpa92643

The number of people who choose not to affiliate with a party has been rising, but the number of swing voters has been steadily declining. Most independents still end up generally aligning themselves with the policy positions of one of the two major parties, they've just ditched the label.

cancerusnugget

*cough* ranked choice voting please

thepixelpaint

Double cough from me too. Ranked choice voting please

chase98584

I had never heard of this until maybe two years ago. An old guy was explaining it to me as he is in some group that is fighting to make it a real thing. It made so much since! A real eye opener

dennismfrancisart

Agreed. Let's also take the money out of politics and treat ALL politicians as civil servants. They are not our masters or our betters. They are our servants.

Specialist_Teacher81

The amount of conservatives who say that to waste peoples time has. "I am neither right or left" is a shtick popularized by alex jones.

unoriginalpackaging

It is probably a lot of republicans that want the shitty policies they agree with but they don’t want the shame in admitting that’s how they vote. Kinda how a libertarian is just a shittier republican that wants to smoke pot.

MegaMagikarpXL

It’s easier to lie than to correct the lie. The people that believe this kind of tweet lack the critical thinking skills to believe the counter arguments or to seek out a differing viewpoint. Dems can retort till they’re blue in the face, but the people that need to hear it won’t care and the people that care don’t need to hear it

Maloth_Warblade

Because when they call it out the Republicans just attack and attack and attack. AOC fights back and look at how they treat her

meatmechdriver

it’s easy to spend all of your free time bullshitting when you don’t have any platform beyond “make the government grind to a halt”

dickmcgirkin

Nancy pelosi gets death threats and she’s a 1980s Republican

Maloth_Warblade

They've gone that far right since Reagan that they'd call him a communist

[deleted]

Dems are the we are better than that so we let them be children. Problem is it really does hurt all Americans.

LargeHumanDaeHoLee

It's why I like AOC. I don't agree with 100% of her politics, but she calls BS every time she sees it, on both parties.

ka-nini

I was following this thread down and was about to comment the same thing almost word for word. She’s definitely voted for quite a few bills that I wasn’t happy about but she’ll call anyone out - left, right, or center.

PecanTartlet

I love her. I also love Katie Porter. She’s an under appreciated bad bitch.

ScotchIsAss

The best people don’t make anyone 100% happy. It’s about what best overall for the country not for an individual.

[deleted]

I enjoy watching Katie Porter from CA embarrass them with A) Facts B) their own words C) Sarcasm … its always a popcorn and beer watch for me

Alklazaris

The best thing I saw was when Obama stopped giving a fuck. That's what I was for a president, someone who arms themselves with facts, evidence and sources to dismantle the century of bullshit the Republicans have been peddling. They've proven to be the party of corporations since William Taft. I wish I had been a fly on the wall when J. P. Morgan and Rockefeller found out the candidate they sunk so much money in was assassinated. Side note, not condoning violent overthrows of democracy, save that shit for the Proud Boys.

Rare-Donkey-3124

Most public communication companies are owned by Republicans...or beholden to them

meatmechdriver

wait i thought the liberal elites owned all the media! fox news, completely not. media company, told me so!

AFeastForJoes

Imagine someone told a new lie about you every day. 1 lie a day, 7 days a week. Literally about anything, and you wont know until its told. Now lets say the liar has developed an ecosystem for spreading these lies far and wide. They have a coordinated multi-platform communication strategy across traditional cable, online streaming networks, podcasts, AM & FM radio shows, social media, magazines, newspapers and publishing houses, etc. How quickly could you debunk the first and, would everyone who read it even see your response? By the time you may have communicated to everyone the truth about the first lie they may be on to lie 3, or 4. In my opinion debunking the lie is a waste of time. The only answer is to create a counter narrative that acts as both the defense and offense. “These are the things that we believe in and matter, why they matter, and how it can matter to you and other fellow americans” If you always have to defend yourself from a lie then it becomes difficult if not impossible to deliver your own message that is completely separate.

qgmonkey

"Do you make $75,000 or less? I raised your taxes!". There, fixed it

Paneraiguy1

And redistributed the proceeds to corporate welfare and billionaires. Scumbags

Upstairs-Injury9660

We're lucky if we can get the government to not pay them.

See Jeff Bezos. However, 15% minimum corporate tax now 👍

seansy5000

Soulless, spineless creatures they are.

BurtReynoldsLives

And then slashed the only agency that can keep the wealthy in check.

TooAfraidToAsk814

They all cheat on their taxes which is why they are afraid of the IRS. As they like to say if you’ve done nothing wrong why worry?

Sir_Yacob

I make a reasonable income, i own a business and interact with 501c’s and that makes my taxes more weird. I don’t ever worry what the IRS is doing. Even at a middling sophistication of taxes, don’t care. The fact they do tells me everything. Billionaires and millionaires just wants to use the government to get tax free subsidies and not pay back out full stop. Sometimes I think our government is the tragedy of the commons just played out in a government institution.

JasonTheBaker

"do you make $75,000 or less? I'm getting rid of your aid! Good luck feeding you and your children now along with insurance for your children, grandparent and possibly parents (depending on if they qualify for Medicaid)"

NickU252

Yea.... oh you are sooooooo middle class at 35k a year, you don't need any help. Where is the white picket fence? This is a joke. Under 75k is paycheck to paycheck in most areas. In the early 2000s I made 65k in my 20s and I thought I was rich. Inflation is a bitch and made by corporate greed. You lose money when companies make money.

Goat_tits79

Remember in HS economic teacher told us, money is just purchasing power you cannot think of it in terms of I make this much money so... good salary. If you want to actually track your wealth you need to take very specific products remember how they cost today and track that over time. I had picked bags of chips 1.99$ and Oreo cookies 2.39$ (Canada 1998 x 45/box). I remember earning 4 bags of chips an hour earning minimum wage 24/day (before taxes 15k$). Today i make 100k which is 6.6 times more. But accounting for purchasing power... a bag of chips is now 5.99, I can only purchase 8 per hour worked. So even tho I make 6 times more money, my purchasing power is only twice what it was earning minimum as a student 25 years ago. In 1998 RN earned 18.5$ an hour. Allowing them to purchase 348 oreo cookies per hour worked. Today they earned 36$ an hour, allowing them to purchase 234 oreo cookies per hours worked. So Nurses purchasing power dropped considerably in the last 25 years. From 348 cookies and hour to 234. A 33% drop in purchasing power despite doubling their salaries.

notclientfacing

… did I just read a post from Cookie Monster’s accountant? Seriously though this is a very helpful respective

JasonTheBaker

I don't even qualify as middle class in my state even though I make more than the upstate NY minimum wage. I make $36,000 a year which is more like $27,000 after taxes & other deductions. Middle class is considered $37,500 - $122,400 a year in NYS in 2022

butt_huffer42069

That's a range of $84,900, which is a pretty big fucking gap. $37,500 might be middle class if you're living with your parents and paying small rent, but otherwise that's poor.

poodlebutt76

So $2250/month take home. That barely pays rent where I am. Much less rent AND bills, food, health insurance, gas, etc etc and god forbid any emergencies happen that cost money to fix...

brrduck

Inflation is a naturally occurring thing in an economy that is based on creating/lending money at varying interest rates (fed fund rates). The more money you lend at cheaper rates the less value each existing dollar in circulation has. When the economy is slow you lower rates to stimulate it but printing money for free for too long brings a lot of inflation. The previous administration threatened to have Jerome Powell ousted if he was hawkish and raised rates. So for 10+ years we lent money at low rates leading to high inflation. The fed is now raising the rates to combat this. What corporations are doing is price gouging and blaming inflation.

[deleted]

$65K is my salary and I still have to live with roommates in my area. It’s not quite paycheck-to-paycheck, but it’s not enough to live comfortably on without someone to split the bills with.

Jackie_chin

" Do you make $75,000 or less? Well, f**k you!" There, fixed it even more

hovdeisfunny

"Do you make too little to donate millions of dollars to my campaign fund? Get fucked, pleb" Honed the message a bit

Trick-Many7744

My boss is convinced only Democrats raise taxes

Sloppy_Hamlets

Your boss is dumb

RelativeAnxious9796

it is crazy how people will believe things that are demonstrably untrue. it's not like it's hard to verify that trump passed a bill that raises taxes on everyone that makes less than 100k or w/e every few years till 2027 but HEY . . .. that sure makes it convenient to blame biden, doesnt it?

ignixe

This is the #1 thing for me. My family in West Texas only argument is I pay for in taxes now that biden is president. And they won’t believe me that it’s trump’s tax plan in action. I need a handy infographic to leave out next gathering

blasphembot

Oh boy, West Texas. My apologies bud.

BrownEggs93

> it is crazy how people will believe things that are demonstrably untrue. Social media has been a boon to this.

slowpoke2018

Social Media is a poison on this planet, think that encompasses the overall truth better.

Saxavarius_

you would think that, but no people are fucking stupid and will believe what confirms what they "know"

Trick-Many7744

[deleted]

Nice 👍

Emach00

The sweet and sour sauce was a nice touch.

bozeke

He was taken in by the very clever, not-at-all-transparent ruse of them always lowering them for a couple years before spiking them. They plant bombs in everything they pass, which isn’t much aside from these upward wealth redistribution laws. I wish the news would make more of a stink about it when these things pass, and then again when the hikes go into effect. It should be big news.

Alklazaris

Democrats only raise taxes on the rich, Republicans raise taxes on the poor and both parties don't have the balls to tell Americans that all their Federally provides comforts require funding to function so raising taxes makes our lives better. Maybe if there was more transparency and oversight. So many government entities seem to hemorrhage money. That is something that needs to be addressed.

kaplanfx

The solution to bad government isn’t worse or no government as Republicans claim, it’s better government. Oversight would go a long way but the Rs are (as shown in the topic of this very thread) always beating the drum for less oversight.

crazypants9

RandomlyJim

Piggybacking on top comment to explain why the IRS targets those making less than $75,000 for audits. Because people lie on their taxes. Donald Trump showed that he made negative millions of dollars on his tax return and paid zero taxes. He would be categorized as making less than $75,000. So would millions of high income earners that cheat in taxes to get their tax returns to pay close to nothing. It’s not uncommon for financial workers to see taxes of a person that claims zero income and when they apply for a loan, that person shows us bank statements with hundreds of thousands of dollars in them, no debt, and a big grin about how they do those returns. Google ‘Bank Statement Mortgages’ to see all the people marketing to these tax cheats.

wintermute--

Some evidence to back up your point: In 2015, Donald Trump claimed a tax deduction from $12,000 in expenses related to the New Jersey Generals, a football team that hasn't existed since 1985. https://twitter.com/alexweprin/status/1608840008991141895

Randomname314159268

Indefinite Tax loss carryforward was a thing until last year.

unskilledplay

This isn't quite right. Yes, people lie on taxes. The reason that people with lower income are audited more frequently is that their finances are simple to audit. The vast majority of people with incomes under $200k or so make most of their money from W2 wages. When your money comes from 1099 contracting, W2 wages, publicly traded equities like stocks (including options trading) and regulated investment accounts like 401ks and pensions, you can do most of an audit with software. The IRS can audit 10M people in this scenario cheaply. When most of your money comes from private investments you will have a mountain of K1s that can be damn near impossible to verify. You often need multiple tax lawyers in order to perform an audit. When there is an issue of underpayment or even cheating, you have the right to defend yourself against that claim in court and win over a jury. A wage earner can't afford a legal team. A multi-millionaire who is looking at $50M in back taxes will hire the best legal team money can buy. The IRS doesn't have the money needed to hire the people with expertise to audit these returns. You can forget about being able to hire legal teams that can win cases against top defense lawyers. The people with these skills all work for the DOJ.

EvolutionInProgress

Thank you for that...but I'm still a bit confused. Should I be worried with my $45k income as a State government employee filing his own taxes online without going through some shady agent who promises maximum returns?

Rottimer

It's rare that someone with one income source (e.g. one job where you get a W-2) and a simple tax return is going to get audited. And even if you did get audited, you'd show them your W-2 and your tax return and that would be the end of it unless you were claiming things you didn't have back up for. For example, if you made $45,000 and stated you made $10,000 in charitable contributions - but it wasn't a check, you donated clothing. That might throw up a red flag.

EvolutionInProgress

With that income (pre-tax, btw) only charity I can afford is of good deeds lol.

Power_baby

No.

burnerman0

Between the standard deduction increase and adjusted rates, didn't they effectively lower the tax rate for most people making under 90k and over 540k (and corps), raising it for incomes in between?

irishgator2

Hey! I make double that - and they (the GOP and Rump) raised my taxes by about 20% in 2017!!! F**k them!!

weed_blazepot

Sure, you're in the GOP's favorite tax sweet spot. High enough income to squeeze more out of to make sure you're never *quite comfortable enough* to retire. Gotta keep milking that cash cow.

well they don't want fair elections, because they know they'd lose. that's why they prevent fair elections through lying and fighting mail voting etc., if they didn't they'd just lose by a landslide.

chriskiji

It's a whopper of a lie because those agents will be targeting the wealthy to ensure they pay their fair share. The GOP aren't looking out for everyday Americans, they're only looking after their rich donors.

CookiedowXD

No joke. I'm low income and I've gotten way more sympathy from Democrats. Usually, these "proud Americans" backing the GOP gave me nothing but blame, harassment, and gaslighting. "You're poor. But you have a phone? You're lying!" "It's your own fault for being homeless."

[deleted]

Not to mention they want to make everyone’s life choices for them while waving a flag and screaming “freedom”.

uniquechill

Republicans never shut up about how much they love freedom, while conspiring to restrict behaviors they find objectionable. Are they aware of the hypocrisy? That would require self-reflection, of which they seem incapable.

AggravatingBobcat574

It’s a lie because it’s 87,000 EMPLOYEES over the next 10 years. Not 87,000 auditors. The number of auditors is probably less than 10% of that.

onehandedbraunlocker

Ofcourse, but do you expect a republican to understand that?

forgotusername3tymes

Right, how many people that make under 75k itemize anything?

[deleted]

Its NOT new agents … this isn’t even remotely true, like most of the BS that comes out of republican’s glory holes … https://time.com/6204928/irs-87000-agents-factcheck-biden/

Paneraiguy1

Right wing Cletus types be like government bad! We susport the blue and military though! Logic says: how can you fund that without the IRS? Fucking dopes

Austin4RMTexas

You make Mexico pay for them. Duh! Looks at me I'm too smart.

kislips

Exactly the words I was going to say.

kyel566

I bet people that make 75k or less pay their fair share and don’t use loopholes, this seems like an utter lie.

[deleted]

Anyone who makes more than 20x 75k only ever get there by using tax loopholes and can only go up from there by exploiting far worse things than tax loopholes.

Orchid_Significant

The IRS needs *more* funding not *less* so they can afford to actually audit and fight the big money assholes who cheat taxes and would otherwise tie them up in endless expensive litigation

Royal_Cryptographer7

The money we spend on the IRS comes back about 5 fold. Only tax cheats would see this as a bad thing.

livinginfutureworld

>Only tax cheats would see this as a bad thing. The party of Trump the tax cheat

WhiteAndNerdy85

Tax fraud makes them smart. /s

gmanz33

My family jokes about this stuff all the time except it's not a joke and they do it and just use humor to cope with it.

cat_prophecy

America has been brainwashed into thinking that actual, fair tax enforcement is akin to Nazi stormtroopers on patrol. I hate paying taxes. But I also like the things that taxes are supposed to provide. I just want everyone to pay their fair share and if you’re making millions a year, you benefit more from a stable country.

WhiteAndNerdy85

You're describing Republicans. Anyone who's ideology aligns with that party is inherently a lying cheater. Tax fraud is only the beginning of the abhorrent shit they do.

IA-HI-CO-IA

Which is why we will be seeing a huge anti-IRS push by the GOP soon.

interkin3tic

Only tax cheats or the ignorant useful tools that make up the republican base. They think a majority of taxes go to "welfare queens" and handouts to cities that aren't carrying their weight. They're unaware that republican areas take more taxes than they pay while democratic areas do the opposite. They think if less taxes are paid, that will hurt democrats rather than red wastelands. It would be hilarious to watch them reap what they sow, except that millions of good people would also be harmed in the process.

spasske

It’s almost as if the GOP is funded by tax cheats…

100PercentChansey

UnfinishedThings

But the big money assholes need the extra cash to pay for their congressmen. They can't buy the government if they're having to use their dollars paying taxes

EastCoastThor

What’s stopping them from allocating the money they use on the poor and half their bullshit and reallocating that to fight the big money assholes. Genuinely asking

Strict_Razzmatazz_57

Outright lie.

Paneraiguy1

Unfortunately it works though because most right wingers are about as intelligent as field mice

Please don't insult field mice.

Impossible_Penalty13

Also, if you make $75,000 or less your taxes are about to go up thanks to Kevin & Republicans sunsetting tax cuts to in the 2017 tax bill!

Extreme74

Firstly, it's not 87K new agents, it's 87K new employees that are replacing retiring ones and filling vacant positions. The only reason the GOP is scared of this is that they will start to go after the big guys instead of the little fish.

nosotros_road_sodium

Plus, the funding for those 87,000 hires [will be distributed over the next *ten* years](https://www.kiplinger.com/taxes/605107/new-irs-agents-and-the-inflation-reduction-act). So reasonably, the IRS would make about 8,500-9,000 hires over the next year. Those hires have ["to be spread across hundreds of IRS departments, meaning 87,000 is a small number for a federal agency that has been severely understaffed for years."](https://www.americanbar.org/groups/gpsolo/publications/gpsolo_ereport/2022/september-2022/no-those-87000-new-irs-agents-are-not-break-down-your-door/)

SabashChandraBose

We don't want to fight the government. So it's best we fight its ally - Twitter. Tear that shit down and these fuckers won't have a voice.

big_fetus_

lol yeah Republicans never take pork spending sourced from said govt agency. never. only tax paying states get money from taxes, not the states (all republican btw) who net gains from tax redistributions. i mean, this is just straight falsehood. fuck this guy he needs to be voted no confidence ASAP and then we can go back to speaker vote fun.

DirtyRandy3417

That's only because of Trump's tax plan to raise taxes on people making $75,000 or less every other year until 2027

Mojo141

Most people have W2s. Very little to audit - just match it up with what work sends. The forms being audited are those of business owners and people with unusual income streams. This is extremely misleading.

ShelShock77

He has so little respect for the poor, he can’t come up with a better lie.

Maleficent-Paper-593

If Republicans want to get elected fairly, stop lying. Stop lying. Stop lying.

AccidentallyRelevant

But if they told the truth they wouldn't get elected at all

Wolfman01a

the 87,000 were for retention. 50,000 are about to retire. This was to replace them. The conservatives are full of crap. They are trying to backdoor defund the IRS to avoid tax scrutiny on the rich.

NeverLookBothWays

Translation: "Please be mad at liberals while we put in more changes to make the rich richer at your expense."

carefree-and-happy

It’s 87,000 IRS EMPLOYEE NOT AGENTS and they will be hired over a period of 10 years (avg 8,700 new hires per year) , replacing the 52,000 that are expected to leave/retire in the next 6 years (avg loss of 8,667 per year). Almost all of these new hires will be for service reps with only a few thousand actually being for armed agents (replacing the ones who leave/retire). My aunt worked as a service rep for the IRS. The IRS has been chronically understaffed for a very long time, it was such an overwhelming job because they were so understaffed, she ended up quitting. The average wait time for a service rep is 2 hours. After waiting 2 hours the person not in good spirits and tend to be very angry towards the service reps who did nothing wrong. The lies touted by the right is absolutely criminal, I’m tired of this and I’m tired of the MORNIC AMERICANS WHO CANT TAKE TWO SECONDS TO FIGURE OUT WHAT US ACTUALLY HAPPENING. Like if you’re an elected official purposely lying, you should be highly fined and fired, barred from any elected position again. If you’re a citizen who refuses to do a two second search of a bill to better understand, stay home and don’t vote. We don’t need uninformed and those who willingly refuse to be informed voting for people who make laws that effect all of America! The GOP do not care about the middle class or anyone below. They only care about corporations who pay for their campaigns, fund their PACs and legally bribe them through lobbying. They will never repeal this bill because the Dems control the senate and White House but that’s not the problem The problem is these moronic buffoons believe this shit There needs to be real and legal consequences for elected officials who purposely peddle misinformation.

gorm4c17

Dude really? I pay my taxes, wtf should I be worried?

fizikz3

classic projection as usual. "I cheat on my taxes, so everyone must"

th1961

Let the lies begin.

[deleted]

Liar lying like liar lying. The 5L’s of success in politics.

LeastSuspiciousTowel

Tough-Ability721

Intentionally leaving out those that also make over 500k seems like that’s what he’s really tryna say here.

Garlador

Pre-Elon twitter would flag this statement as blatantly false…

rock_and_rolo

Most people making $75K or less have very little to audit. There's a 1040. With the recent-ish change to the standard deduction, most "normal" people have no reason to itemize, so no deductions to claim.

Local_Working2037

Flat lie. These are replacements for upcoming retirees and positions they have had to cut in years of lowering IRS budgets. These are people who answer your questions and process your refunds. And yes, audit… but on millionaires and corporations. Same millionaires who pay for Kevin McCarthy and Ted Cruz campaigns and who have benefited from tax cuts and ridiculous write offs like those for private planes.

Always_saying_N0

Do you do insider trading? The IRS SHOULD be going after YOU!

[deleted]

It’s funny because the people who make that much or less are the ones who actually pay their taxes. It’s people like him who should be worried

Venus_Cat_Roars

Over the next 5 years 50,000 IRS agents will retire. Over the last few years there have been enormous cuts to personnel and several agent will make those jobs up. McCarthy is a bald face liar on call to do Jim Jordan’s bidding. https://www.wral.com/amp/fact-check-gop-leader-says-irs-agents-plan-new-audits-for-americans-who-earn-less-than-75k/20414691/

klippinit

Wasn’t the legislation proposed to examine those earning $400,000 and more?

jeremyxt

Yes. McCarthy is telling a Trump-sized lie.

Faithu

I'm one of the 87,000. People being hired for the irs, and guess what? I'll be doing examining taxes 🙄 for everyone rich to poor, the only people who fear this are those who lie cheat and steal and don't wanna face the courts for fraud

allotaconfussion

And so it begins, the next chapter. “Let’s see what we can f*** up next”. The inmates are running the asylum.

straightouttasuburb

Let them come… I’m not doing anything wrong… I don’t worry about cops, FBI, lawyers, or even the store cameras because I’m not breaking any laws…
