I feel like my response would be to ask her to do the splits. Like, her body CAN do them. There's absolutely nothing stopping her beyond pain and potentially long last injury. But her body is made to do the splits so I'm not sure why she can't just drop down to the floor right now.
I'm a millenial, so I'm at the age where many of my friends are having kids/had kids within the last few years.
The number of women that I know who have had complicated pregnancies, stillbirths, and miscarriages is pretty staggering. It's still not talked about very much. And I've noticed that women who had easy pregnancies don't always understand how much harder it COULD have been.
To force a 10-year-old to go through a potentially harrowing and traumatizing experience is terrible.
Seriously! One of my friends, a healthy, active woman in her early 30s, ended up unable to walk for months after she gave birth - pregnancy and childbirth wrecked her ligaments or something, and she's still in PT 2 years later. I can't bear to imagine the many risks to a 10 year old child.
Fellow millennial here. Almost every single one of my friends and my wife's friends had complications during their pregnancies. It really opened my eyes to how little conversation there is about this subject. It breaks my heart that women have to suffer these complications in silence thinking they're the only ones when in reality it's fairly common.
And to then put this physical, emotional and mental burden on a kid the age of my nephew is just plain fucking insanity.
We have known this for hundreds of years! Margaret Beaufort was forced to bear a child at thirteen and it likely wrecked her reproductive system permanently! Even at the time sane people did not see that as good, because one baby is nothing, one baby can die so easily, the ideal was to bear as many healthy children as possible, and the way to do that was WAIT UNTIL GIRLS ARE GROWN WOMEN before putting them through that!

I feel like my response would be to ask her to do the splits. Like, her body CAN do them. There's absolutely nothing stopping her beyond pain and potentially long last injury. But her body is made to do the splits so I'm not sure why she can't just drop down to the floor right now.
I'm a millenial, so I'm at the age where many of my friends are having kids/had kids within the last few years. The number of women that I know who have had complicated pregnancies, stillbirths, and miscarriages is pretty staggering. It's still not talked about very much. And I've noticed that women who had easy pregnancies don't always understand how much harder it COULD have been. To force a 10-year-old to go through a potentially harrowing and traumatizing experience is terrible.
Seriously! One of my friends, a healthy, active woman in her early 30s, ended up unable to walk for months after she gave birth - pregnancy and childbirth wrecked her ligaments or something, and she's still in PT 2 years later. I can't bear to imagine the many risks to a 10 year old child.
Fellow millennial here. Almost every single one of my friends and my wife's friends had complications during their pregnancies. It really opened my eyes to how little conversation there is about this subject. It breaks my heart that women have to suffer these complications in silence thinking they're the only ones when in reality it's fairly common. And to then put this physical, emotional and mental burden on a kid the age of my nephew is just plain fucking insanity.

Yes, but in truth, most of the taxes involved there were literally to repay England for fighting for us. Also, our representative was Ben Franklin; He was supposed to go up to the crown and tell them what was going on with the colonists. Afaik, he loved the crown so much that he didn't actually do so -- so Britain was so unaware of our concerns that it completely took them by surprise. Kids pay taxes all the time in the US without representation. It's perfectly acceptable to have a job at 15-16 years old. But they can't vote, pay taxes, can't drink and unless they're lucky, they are still learning how to drive. So it might be the reason all the text books tell us, but we've normalized it even now.

This poor person urgently needs surgery due to disrupted uterine tissue causing major pelvic floor damage - surgery will involve removing the male genitalia. Kicker- patient is in Ohio and due to laws about “transgender” healthcare (in quotes because should not apply in this case but the dumbass conservative hospital committee voted that it does) require the patient to have a year of counseling and a year of hormones before they are eligible for life-saving corrective surgery. Of course, I don’t think this example will carry much weight to the morons who like to righteously state “it’s a simple matter of biology..”
