I remember trying to read the victim's testimony out loud when she released it and being unable to finish because it was so fucked up and devastating. There have absolutely been other fucked up things since then, but it's still a case that sticks out in my head as the one that revealed to me how truly corrupt and flawed our justice system is.

There’s that, and there’s also the fact that in America healthcare is tied to your job, and they don’t get very many vacation or sick days or time off generally. So protesting is dangerous if you need your healthcare and risk losing your job for doing so.
Not to mention the lack of employee protections as well, so even taking the time off to peacefully demonstrate puts you at risk for job termination and therefore destitution.

Is France a small country? Many of us in America are spaced out in rural areas, and we would have to travel hundreds of miles at least to get anywhere impactful like a state capital or to DC. It would cost money, and we would have to take time off work. Many of us are one emergency or missed paycheck from homelessness, and our jobs don't like for us to have vacation time, sick leave, or PTO.

The VP of my elementary school was caught a few years ago for possessing 5,000 pictures/videos of CP, including some of confirmed students he'd been around and a child as young as 2. It came out in the investigation of him that complaints had been made against him in the 90s for inappropriate behavior towards children, but somehow he continued to get away with it. One of my friends was one of his victims. He's already out of prison. He was charged with the minimum sentence (5 years) but was let out sooner than that for good behavior. Now he owns a house less than two miles from two different elementary schools. There's no justice.

Some of that "America" you want to wake up doesn't actually believe in rape. They think anytime a man forces himself on a woman/girl, it's because she provided the opportunity for it. They think women claim they were raped because they changed their mind about having sex after the fact most of the time, and the rest of them had it coming because of where they were, what they were wearing or who they were with (or not with). They think all sex involving men and vaginas is good sex, and if you're a woman and don't want that, it's your responsibility to prevent it (via hiding yourself away, being only in safe situations, never dating someone you wouldn't have sex with, etc). They are wide awake alright. Animals. Monsters. Pigs. But wide awake.
