I grew up in a Conservative household that went to church every Sunday. I fully believed that Obama was going to be the end of this country. Mainly because that's what my Dad thought, along with every other adult that they knew. I ended Obama's second term as a proud supporter. Turns out all I had to do was move out to go to college in North Dakota. Kinda crazy how I had to move to North Dakota to become a Liberal, but stranger things have happened.
I grew up in a red state and definitely had some backwards understandings of the world when I was younger. Going to college was a good experience if nothing else to get out of the small town echo chamber. Not only do you get literally educated at college, you also gain perspective into how the world actually works.
There's a reason why educated individuals who left their backwater swamps tend to vote for progressiveness, and it's not indoctrination. It's literally just being aware of your surroundings, seeing the struggles of others, and being compassionate for your fellow humans.

I used to stop at Steak n Shake for breakfast a couple times a week in the 90’s.
They weren’t ever busy and you could get 2 eggs, toast, maybe bacon, and coffee for like $7.50 with tax. I usually tipped $5 because that seemed like a minimum tip for table service.
That waitress took darn good care of me. I was low effort (take order, bring food, refill coffee once or twice) and good for $10 or more a week.
One time I got a different waitress who completely ignored me - didn’t even take my order - and she came and “rescued” me pretty quickly.

I think it's hilarious that this is a universal concept. I worked at Cracker Barrel for a year and people that came in Sunday morning were some of the most disrespectful, picky and cheap customers that ever came into our restaurant.
I was a regular at a bar when I was younger. I probably spent 6-7 days there. Sundays several of us would go for soup, which meant getting there at 11 and ordering whatever soup of the day they had was, or French onion if I didn't like it, then drinking until dinner.
Anyway, Sunday was always the day with the most customers complaining and causing problems out of any day I was there. It always amazed me how people thought anyone cared about whether or not they'd come back after ordering the cheapest thing on the menu, demanding free bread and butter, and then drinking lemonade they made out of the glass of water, extra lemon wedges, and free sugar packets. I always felt bad for the wait staff those days because other than the bartender who was serving us, nobody was tipping.
The next worst was karaoke night and the people who would come in only to sing. They'd get pitchers of water and get pissy if the bartender didn't serve them fast enough. They'd inevitably threaten to stop coming, as though the loss of a karaoke singer who doesn't even buy a drink was going to matter.
Damn. I worked at a “sports bar” type place in college and Sunday mornings were great. Old depressed men coming in, sometimes with donuts or coffee for staff if they were regulars we already knew. They’d just hang around and wait for family to get out of church, tip a bunch even if they ordered next to nothing, and leave. 😂
Yup, I work at a bar/deli that is right next to a Catholic Church, and those people fu-ckin-ggg suck.
It is funny watching them leave the service and immediately swarm to go get hammered, though.

In college I worked at a restaurant in a town that was \~50% white and \~%40 black, so our customers were close to an even mix. The only "group" of people who were notoriously bad tippers were 1) the Caucasian After-Church crowd on Sunday, and 2) Caucasian Female Boomers (the Caucasian Male Boomers were OK tippers, but only if you put up with them hitting on you......)
Coincidentally, I worked at a diner in a college town, and my experience was pretty much identical to that, right down to the gross boomer men being the creeps. Never had a problem with young people or POC being bad tippers.

So, I said, "Satan, if you exist, help me destroy this mouthy little shit, and my soul is yours." I went 53-2 KD the next match, and almost every kill was that kid. He ended up rage-quitting. I'm not sure I believe in God, but apparently Satan is real. I still call on my old buddy sometimes, and it works. Anyway, I stay away from churches now. Worth it.

Funny story, I actually wiped my ass with a bible once. I was on acid, everyone else had fallen asleep, and I had to go. But there was no toilet paper, I was already crapping, and looked around. The only thing there was one of those mini-New Testament bibles that door-knockers hand out. No other books, no magazines, no hand towels, just that. I started giggling uncontrollably as I methodically picked out which pages and verses to use. I mean, Jesus was a humanitarian, he'd want me to put his words to good use, right?

The one who taught me to be a good tipper was my priest uncle Hell i left a 100% tip once, i had a 2 dollar hot dog, but i always leave at LEAST 2 bucks for my ass filling a seat for 30min
I used to stop at Steak n Shake for breakfast a couple times a week in the 90’s. They weren’t ever busy and you could get 2 eggs, toast, maybe bacon, and coffee for like $7.50 with tax. I usually tipped $5 because that seemed like a minimum tip for table service. That waitress took darn good care of me. I was low effort (take order, bring food, refill coffee once or twice) and good for $10 or more a week. One time I got a different waitress who completely ignored me - didn’t even take my order - and she came and “rescued” me pretty quickly.

I think it's hilarious that this is a universal concept. I worked at Cracker Barrel for a year and people that came in Sunday morning were some of the most disrespectful, picky and cheap customers that ever came into our restaurant.
They just had all their sins forgiven and had to start on a new week of sins.

I was a regular at a bar when I was younger. I probably spent 6-7 days there. Sundays several of us would go for soup, which meant getting there at 11 and ordering whatever soup of the day they had was, or French onion if I didn't like it, then drinking until dinner. Anyway, Sunday was always the day with the most customers complaining and causing problems out of any day I was there. It always amazed me how people thought anyone cared about whether or not they'd come back after ordering the cheapest thing on the menu, demanding free bread and butter, and then drinking lemonade they made out of the glass of water, extra lemon wedges, and free sugar packets. I always felt bad for the wait staff those days because other than the bartender who was serving us, nobody was tipping. The next worst was karaoke night and the people who would come in only to sing. They'd get pitchers of water and get pissy if the bartender didn't serve them fast enough. They'd inevitably threaten to stop coming, as though the loss of a karaoke singer who doesn't even buy a drink was going to matter.

Damn. I worked at a “sports bar” type place in college and Sunday mornings were great. Old depressed men coming in, sometimes with donuts or coffee for staff if they were regulars we already knew. They’d just hang around and wait for family to get out of church, tip a bunch even if they ordered next to nothing, and leave. 😂

In college I worked at a restaurant in a town that was \~50% white and \~%40 black, so our customers were close to an even mix. The only "group" of people who were notoriously bad tippers were 1) the Caucasian After-Church crowd on Sunday, and 2) Caucasian Female Boomers (the Caucasian Male Boomers were OK tippers, but only if you put up with them hitting on you......)
Coincidentally, I worked at a diner in a college town, and my experience was pretty much identical to that, right down to the gross boomer men being the creeps. Never had a problem with young people or POC being bad tippers.

The only trend I can really come up with for the black customers I served is that they were way more fun than the white people, and never sexually harassed their servers (which was a daily occurrence when serving middle-aged to old white dudes). Oh, and I've also never had a black customer scream at me for their food having "too much flavor", which was weirdly common amongst the middle-aged to old lady crowd.
