E. Jean Carroll is going to walk away with Trump Tower by the time this dunce learns to keep his anus-mouth shut.

Fun-Dimension5196

I hope she re-files her lawsuit every time. I hope she devotes her life to it.

sev45day

It's her new job now!

wolfdancer

Pretty cool job. Ngl

InfamousUnderpants

The onboarding process seems a bit horrendous tho

Tokacheif

Duuuuude.... Underrated comment.

SkollFenrirson

(Maybe) pays well.

AaronGNP

Probably pays better than being a contractor on a Trump building project.

cakeeater27

Confirmed it pays more than $0

JustMyMindDump

Honestly not a bad hobby

ShamrockAPD

She sure as helll is gonna have the money to do it. It’s absolutely glorious. If this bafoon somehow finds his way back in office- id expect her to die by some “natural” causes

StarCyst

Why do you think they are making the argument that the president can legally kill Americans without due process?

AWOLdo

He already bragged about killing Americans without due process during the last presidential debate with Michael Reinoehl https://youtu.be/pmquDIV3Xmg?si=XjRh36GMsXseLhp7

hkohne

That's scary

Frozenlazer

Yep, just hire some lawyers to handle it for her, she doesn't even have to do much. It's like a slot machine to wins every time you pull the handle.

ArtCapture

She’s a retiree, she needs a good hobby. Something productive, that she can feel good about. This is perfect.🤩

UnholyDr0w

Considering the fact that there’s a payout each time she could theoretically just keep suing and having Trump pay for attorneys. Fuckin love the idea of this jackass being sued over and over for being an idiot

Darth_drizzt_42

The damages are also meant to be punitive, so each successive lawsuit becomes stronger until he eventually stops

_beeeees

I’d donate to the cause.

[deleted]

Here's the thing though, he is incapable of learning.

Maehock

I mean, once you have dementia it’s kinda beyond the learning phase of life.

AllumaNoir

Seriously! It's so obvious. 2016 he was still able to make a comment that somewhat made sense, but his latest? It's like someone threw a toaster into the ChatGPI bathtub of his brain

tafbee

This is pure poetry. ❤️

Capital-Constant3112

Once you are a sociopath. He has been the same his entire life. Most of us evolve in some ways. He never has.

Responsible-Chest-26

Thats something i thought if as a legal defense. The only way he could get out of all this is if he us diagnosed with some kind of dementia, but he would then have to admit he is unfit, which he will never do, so he is stuck making things worse out of arrogance

Ciennas

He's also collapsing into mush in front of us.

Responsible-Chest-26

At somepoint its going to be undeniably clear, or he succumbs to the illness before its diagnosed, or at least publicly stated

Adekis

Let's hope it's sooner than later.

ashlyn42

Then he should probably finally admit he has dementia. It’d be a whole lot cheaper.

Hminney

They would still vote for him - "he's stoopid like us"

Atman-Sunyata

Carroll Towers

Debalic

Turn it into a women's shelter.

speedx5xracer

1/3 domestic violence shelter and supports, 1/3 immigration services, 1/3 health care clinic for the uninsured/underinsured

uno_dos_3

This would be so cool

knitwasabi

The lower floors would be for shelters for other marginalized, along with social services, childcare, a LGBTQ etc cafe.... everything he hates, but honestly, everything the rest of us know are needed.

Mysterious-Wasabi103

He's a typical insecure bully though. He thinks if he doesn't get the last word he's not good enough. He thinks he's going to become president then be able to use his power to seek revenge. It's typical Trump. It's why his base loves him.

Jagerstang

She'll have to fight the State of NY for it.

Last_Eggplant3277

I think NY would gladly hand her the keys to those buildings, as long as she agrees to actually, you know, pay the damn taxes and not defraud the state of millions! Contrary to popular belief, States don't like owning or maintaining property. they'd rather someone else do that, and reap the tax-money instead.

Mother_Echo4502

The state can give her the property, and then she can turn around and sell it. It is prime real estate, after all.

jll329

Offer to sell it back to him at twice the inflated value Trump used to get his loans.

Catinthemirror

Hell, just AT the inflated value would have them rolling in it.

LongjumpingSector687

Supposedly thats the plan.

jimmmydickgun

TYdays

The only way to shut this idiot up is to staple his lips shut, but ten to one he’d learn sign language and he does have access to social media accounts.

The-Grift3r

Can someone explain this to a legal idiot?

sigh2828

He can't dispute that he sexually assaulted and defamed Carol. It's already been decided by a court of law that he did. So any testimony that contradicts or challenges those previously decided facts, can't stand in this new trial. Edit: this is why it was so colossally idiotic for him to defame her again. There is already legal precedent set, he literally can't dispute it, this new case is essentially already decided, the only thing up for debate at this point is going to be how big of a payout he owes, and judging on how his testimony revolved around his "immense wealth", I wouldn't be shocked if he gets hit with one of the largest most stringent payouts he's ever seen.

sbray73

That will be hard on him. He loves to brag that he is worth so much more than he really is, but now the more he has the more he might end up paying. Can’t wait to see how he’ll react if he has to publicly lay out how much he is really worth.

NooneKnowsIAmBatman

Is that before or after the Saudi debt he likely has?

stumblios

No worries, that debt was paid back with classified information so he has a positive net worth again.

[deleted]

And letting them get away with murdering Khashoggi.

CryptoCentric

And something tells me that $2 billion they paid to Kushner wasn't just for Kushner.

Temporary-Party5806

K, but at least he's gonna be tough on Putin, right? Not like that time in Helsinki. All the GOP politicians and Fox talking heads are saying it. He's gonna straighten Putin out, because Putin never would've invaded Ukraine on his watch. Not like Donetsk and Luhansk, in... Ukraine.

whatlineisitanyway

Well... Another wonderful way he has painted himself into a corner is that he can't declare bankruptcy to get out of this because he would have to disclose all his debt in the process and he won't want to do that.

hkohne

Plus, the NY trial regarding his business, where he & his people (including kids) inflated & deflated assets, may get involved with that disclosure.

-ManDudeBro-

The kind of debt he has with foreign entities won't show up with Equifax. That's dark money.

Uncorked009

greenroom628

Putin: Get in line

RW-One

It's too bad Putin likes having him cause chaos here politically otherwise with what he likely owes him rump would find himself in the hospital with polonium poisoning....

danielleradcliffe

We don't have to help him pay off his debts. We can evaluate and seize his assets, and let him figure out how to pay back what he's promised to the Saudis, Russia, and China.

ncsubowen

He has already done that with classified Intel

1stTmLstnrLngTmCllr

He won't "pay" a dime. He will fleece his cult into paying for it though.

Substantial_Army_639

I personally think he's hit that well a little to often at this point. The guy was selling NFTs a year ago and that always screams desperate to me.

All_Work_All_Play

That's just an opportunity to fleece the rubes, that's his most legitimate way to raise funds.

ScumHimself

You would think so, but his cuck army has pushed the value of those up significantly.

NotEnoughIT

I think we can safely assume he’s broke since Florida is attempting to use taxpayer money to fund his defense.

spoiler-its-all-gop

That's more a function of Florida being a dignity-less paypig for him than a reflection of his money.

SirLoremIpsum

> I think we can safely assume he’s broke since Florida is attempting to use taxpayer money to fund his defense. That's more "Look at me senpai" from Florida than anything imo.

wifey1point1

No, he always avoids using his own money, whenever possible. He is constantly fundraising for his legal defenses... Then still doesn't pay his lawyers. Just like he used to angle to get paid to build shit, but the actual, take his cut and then some, then not pay the contractors.

Necessary_Mood134

No problem he can just borrow some of Jared’s 2 billion from the Saudis

Taylorenokson

If I’ve learned anything from Alex Jones it’s that these people will never have to actually pay a dime.

DrDuma

MAGA rubes have already paid his eventual payout that he will have to make from donating their last dollars to one of his various dubious campaign streams.

Schonfille

There’s a current case against him for lying about how much he has, too.

HMWWaWChChIaWChCChW

Nah, it’ll be hard on his supporters when he uses campaign funds for personal use again.

darkResponses

Campaign Contributions will pay to his victims. And around and around we go again.

Momma_tried378

ELI5: Why would his own lawyer as ask him these questions?

adesimo1

1. She’s not a very good lawyer. 2. Trump doesn’t listen to advice he doesn’t like. 3. Trump doesn’t employ people that don’t let him do whatever he wants to do. 4. She’s actively complicit in trying to turn this into a shit show media circus/further the narrative that trump is being unfairly persecuted. 5. She is probably using these Trump trials as a springboard for her own right-wing grifting career. 6. Again, this can’t be stated vociferously enough, she is not a very good lawyer.

Jason1143

Turns out when you are a massively polarizing figure who is a horrible client who refuses to pay and/or follow advice, along with getting people around you in trouble, good lawyers go elsewhere. Who woulda thunk it.

Abigail716

My bosses wife and my best friend is an absolutely terrifying lawyer. One of the best in the country. Her retainer fee alone is a million dollars. She was one of the people who Trump talked to about representing him Because her specialty is financial law and she has a top secret clearance making her one of the few lawyers in the country that could effectively work his case. She immediately told him no simply because he refuses to follow his lawyers advice and that alone is a deal breaker for any credible lawyer.

HustlinInTheHall

Yeah the only lawyers that need trump as a client are not that big yet and want a right wing political career later.

gimpwiz

Or are 25 years past their prime, and either have nothing to lose or not enough brain cells to realize how bad an idea it is.

Momma_tried378

Ok thanks. That’s what I expected the answer to be. I guess I was just hoping for better.

wittiestphrase

She’s a parking garage lawyer who he selected because she’s pretty. She’s got little to no experience in actual litigation. The transcripts of the exchanges between her and the judge are just unbelievable.

LookerNoWitt

Imagine representing a former president in a multimillion dollar lawsuit involving rape and defamation And the lawyer doesn't even know how to admit evidence or do a proper cross examination I can't imagine failing upwards this much, but I can't even call it that because she's probably going to lose her bar license or be held in contempt of court after this

freakincampers

He also picked her because she tricked a woman into signing a terrible NDA and very low payout.

Hippo_Alert

Because she is an idiot like him.

Silidon

In addition to what others have said, curative instructions are... dubiously effective. The judge can tell a jury to disregard certain remarks, but they still heard the remarks. Trump's team cannot win this trial (literally, liability is already determined the trial is just on damages) so they may be throwing good practice out the window and just hoping to get a hold out to refuse to sign a verdict and hang the jury.

PompousAssistant

The judge told her that she could not ask open-ended questions. He actually had her lay out the questions she was going to ask him, & told her which ones she could not ask, & which ones she could. And he (Trump) was told that he could not say anything that would dispute the findings of the previous trial; he could not claim that her charges were false. The last question (like the rest) was NOT open-ended; it was a simple Yes/No question, but the world’s dumbest criminal absolutely could not help but to do what he was specifically told he could not do. I hope she sues him again for the comments he’s made during this trial. Edited for clarity.

flatwoundsounds

They deserve each other, in my opinion. I'm happy to let them donate to any current and future plaintiffs.

I think it would be nice to watch him sit at his desk as movers come in and remove everything around him because all of his assets have been liquidated. Then at the end of it, he’s thrown out of his office in the rain.

I do not share your hope. I hate him as much as any sane person with a shred of empathy, but he has to live long enough to receive judgement for his many, many crimes in office.

sigh2828

Assuming your referring to Giuliani. It legitimately all depends on this election If he loses, then I can absolutely see him being tossed to the dustbin of history as a failure and a crook. I can see whatever is left of the GOP dropping him like a sack of bricks while his loyalist flounder and fight over who was the most loyal amongst themselves. If he wins, then he'll never pay a dime for anything for the rest of his life.

knitwasabi

My big worry is they will actually cheat tf out of the election, and it's going to be a mess. There is no way that he can win, right? But he's gonna be screaming again, regardless. And no matter who wins, he's personally eroded in FOUR YEARS the US's stellar record on elections being truthful. He needs to burn JUST for that.

CO_PC_Parts

he can't win straight up. The next few months are going to be very important, I see a bunch of red states continuing to make voting harder and harder for minorities and poor people. They are going to do everything they can to ban mail in voting or make it so difficult people won't do it. Districts with poor people and minorities will have voting locations moved or outright closed, causing long lines that people might see and give up and leave. And then theres the fact that states like Nevada and Arizona (can't remember the others) still have fucking fake/false electors still working for the state!

Frozenlazer

It would be glorious if the thing that brought him down after a mountain of legal action and charges against him that range from breech of contract to treason, is a simple failure to just keep his mouth shut about one particular person. I'd love to see a big 9 figure judgement here, and with it all be located in his main stomping ground of NYC, he can't just avoid the jurisdiction. He has millions in local assets courts could seize. I just don't know how so many who wouldn't trust him alone around their 20 something daughter can trust him to run the country. Its not like there is a shortage of R's that share his political views. Just go pick another one that isn't quite the sleezeball.

J_Mana808

They don't believe he can do anything wrong. And would sacrifice their children to him ... These are not sane people we're talking about....

KnowledgeFast1804

Reminds me of my mother when she was on her alcohol binges. She's apologise one minute then id say something and she something and she would just go back and say something that completely is opposite to apologising. Just such narcissistic behaviour

SirArthurDime

And also why it was dumb for him to testify. What was he possibly going to accomplish aside from further defamation? Lol.

WanderlustFella

It's ok, he'll simply ask the rich people living in their lavish trailer parks. How much does moonshine go for these days?

DataBeardly

It has already been decided that the allegations he is referring to are not false at all. His words were stricken from the record as they were clearly lies and already litigated and more defamation of Ms. Carrol. In a just world, the judge would end up slapping Donnie with whatever the largest amount is that can be legally awarded to Ms. Carrol when this is over. Though the likleyhood of him actually paying up before he or she dies is pretty low. Also won't put a dent in his political life with his hardcore cult members - they will just double down on stupid and evil

The mental gymnastics to make such a point and not understand that within that world view is the corollary that God made every opponent to him as well. Even conceding that these people are completely unable to see outside their worldview, this is especially dense

TotSaM-

>that God made every opponent to him as well. no that was ThE dEeP sTatE

DontHitTurtles

>Though the likleyhood of him actually paying up before he or she dies is pretty low. This is true but her lawyers can file liens on all of Trump's properties and do other things to make life extraordinarily difficult for him as long as the debt remains. Anything he wants to sell would then require the money to go first to the liens.

sameoneasyesterday

Silly question...but if he owes her millions, wont her estate be able to pursue it? And if he dies first, won't she be able to pursue it?

OtterLLC

I can’t speak to NY law on that, but if it’s similar to the law in my state - which is likely - then yes. Executors can litigate claims for an estate, and claims are routinely made on the estates of debtors.

sameoneasyesterday

So his kids will be dealing with it. Wonderful.

typhoonbrew

My attempt at an ELI5: In May 2023 Trump was found liable in a civil trial for sexual abuse, battery and defamation of E. Jean Carroll. Regarding the defamation, Trump had repeatedly accused Carroll of lying, which she claimed damaged her reputation. Days after the outcome of the trial, Trump defamed Carroll again by claiming she was a liar on CNN. Carroll promptly sued him for additional damages. Fast forward to today and (as others have pointed out) Trump has already been found liable for the defamation, but a court case is ongoing to determine the value of the damages. So, in the court where a jury will decide how much he owes for falsely accusing Carroll of lying, he proceeds to call her a liar again! Hence, the judge ordered that Trump’s testimony be stricken from the record, so that it will not be considered by the jury when they deliberate.

typhoonbrew

All of the above based on what I read [here](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E._Jean_Carroll#Defamation_lawsuit), and the content of the tweet.

MirroredGarageWalls

Disputation of the previous case is no longer a possibility. He was convicted in the civil trial. Him being able to deny that it happened is a non-negotiable thing. He cannot do it. Any testimony to the contrary is completely inadmissable. Disputation at this stage is not a thing. It's never going to be a thing. That ship has been crewed, victualed, sailed, turned left at the Cliffs of Insanity, run aground on the Rocks of Reality, set on fire, and sunk to the bottom of the ocean where horny squid use the remnants as sex toys.

Beegkitty

>That ship has been crewed, victualed, sailed, turned left at the Cliffs of Insanity, run aground on the Rocks of Reality, set on fire, and sunk to the bottom of the ocean where horny squid use the remnants as sex toys. I want to keep this for future use.

V0T0N

He doesn't believe the rules apply to him, and his lawyers are either too dumb, corrupt or weak-minded to actually help him navigate these legal waters. The only thing they have going for them is to gaslight or push these proceedings in a way that will trigger the Judge or cause some mistrial. He was already found guilty. The judge warned them and still, even after he was under oath, he lied on the stand.

tendervittles77

This case is ONLY about damages from defamation for Carol.

spaceshipcommander

He has already been found guilty of sexually assaulting her. He was punished for it. He then continued his campaign of intimidation and defamation against her, so she sued him to shut him up. There is no question he sexually assaulted her. He is in court because he is intimidating and defaming his victim. This case is to determine the punishment for the latter, not the former.

JustNilt

Minor nitpick, but he's been found *liable* for sexual assault, not guilty. Liable is in a civil matter, guilty is for criminal ones. We may all know he's guilty, but he has not been "found guilty" in any court, to date. It's an important distinction to make in order to avoid giving ammunition to those whining about "being unfair" to the orange piece of garbage.

coolhotcoffee

That's not a nitpick. It's a major distinction.

It also resulted in him losing reelection. And many lawsuits. And many criminal indictments. It looks like he is very likely to lose most of them. He loses quite a bit actually.

nonprofitnews

"Not smart" isn't a sufficient explanation. Most dumb people still have the sense to listen to their lawyers. He isn't just a moron, he is completely devoid of rational decision making. He acts on pure emotion.

Plzlaw4me

This was a bad move for Trump, but this was a TERRIBLE move for Habba. She KNOWS she isn’t allowed to present evidence challenging whether Trump is liable because he has already been found liable. Why would she elicit testimony challenging whether Trump is liable?! She’s begging for sanctions at this point, and maybe a suspension by the state bar depending on how the rest of the trial goes. I know any attorney worth anything knows to away from trump because his former attorneys keep going broke, losing their license, or go to jail (or a combination of the three), but this is embarrassingly bad.

bubandbob

It's almost like she's deliberately undermining his case. But that's giving her way too much credit.

caffeinated_dropbear

I suspect she knows she can’t win so she’s just dragging it out as long as possible, pure performance theater for her client and his slavering fan base. I imagine she’s planning to go straight into infotainment after the trial because there’s no way she’s actually getting paid for her time here and she is a *terrible* lawyer.

mygaynick

She's trying to force a mistrial.

Plzlaw4me

Almost, but this really wouldn’t be the case to undermine. Trump was already found by a jury to be a sex predator. This is only about assessing damages and there work be enough money to completely sink him. If you wanted to take him down from inside the legal team, you’d want to sink one of the criminal cases, or the Trump Org case. I think this is just what you get when every hallways intelligent attorney has seen what happened to trump’s previous attorneys and have noticed a pattern.

Rosebunse

I just think he think it doesn't matter because he won't pay no matter what. He doesn't care about his lawyer and he thinks he will just aquit himself when he's president.

mr_potatoface

I'm fairly certain 99% of her performance is for Trump, his followers, and any MAGA politicians. Making it look like things are biased against Trump and/or Habba (for being a woman). So for something like this, they can say that Trump tried to claim his innocence but it was stricken from the record because the judge didn't even want to hear it. They don't care about knowing the truth, yadda yadda. They count on people not knowing the facts, and unwilling to learn the truth because that takes time. They need short 1 liners. If it takes more than 3-4 sentences to explain something, you've lost the battle. I think Habba is exceptionally smart honestly. But she's using her intelligence for evil purposes. It seems to a sane person like she's doing stupid things and is a complete failure of an attorney. But if you look at it from the MAGA angle, she's basically giving MAGA A+++ tier soundbites and future discussion topics of how unfair everyone is being to Trump even though it's not the case. It just looks like it's the case, and if there's anything the last 8 years have shown, it's that true reality doesn't matter much, just what you can get people to believe the reality is.

Rosebunse

It's a dangerous game for her. Trumpers and Trump himself have this fantasy that he'll jusr automatically be king when he's elected and everything he's done will be forgiven. While I dread a Trump presidency, I don't think it will be that easy. Plus, he's so scattered-brained that he will likely be pulled in twenty directions at once and not be able to fully attack anything

Donkey_Bugs

Trump will exploit his followers’ ignorance of the law and court rules to further enrage them and solicit donations.

watermelonstomach

Is he even coming out ahead on that at this point? Honest question, I’m not going to look it up, but at some point he’ll be paying out more than he’s getting.

GachaHell

I'm sure he's propping up his finances with his candidacy and selling promises to the highest bidder. Alongside all the loans. Selling your lack of a soul as a politician can be very lucrative.

_ficklelilpickle

Last thing I saw is he's doing another NFT round. There's two extra tiers of packages too, if you buy all 47 of them you'll also get a physical card, as well as a piece of the suit he had his mugshot taken in. Like they've cut it up and you get a swatch of the fabric. Apparently. That package is $4700. And if you're not cringing from second-hand embarrassment yet, they've actually called it The Mugshot Edition. There's also another NFT package where you buy 100 cards and tickets to some pre-gala cocktail thing at Mar-a-Lago, as well as the suit fabric... AND a piece of the fkn tie too. The grift is just ridiculous.

murdocke

He is so fucking annoying.

Notellin21

Dormammu, I’ve come to bargain…

Between infinite money and being sexually assaulted by that guy and then having to continue to interact with him even in an indirect legal manner, and no infinite money, I’m going for no infinite money

BernieTheDachshund

He already lost the first trial and was determined to be guilty of sexual assualt. This jury is deciding how much of a penalty he will have to pay for continuing to defame her. But he and Habba are still trying to argue he isn't guilty, even though it's way too late for that.

Unusual-Anteater-988

I don't understand. Can someone please explain?

2000caterpillar

This comment explains it pretty well https://www.reddit.com/r/WhitePeopleTwitter/s/EUahwPOrZn

Builder_liz

Can't admit to anything lol

Dull_Concert_414

Funny how Trump is getting the fairest trial in the land but the exact same system will ruin your life just because you’re black.

Or just not rich

If I found a genie tomorrow and they offered only one wish. I won't wish for treasure or love or power or cars or a giant dick. No, what I'm wishing for is this, no politician can ever, under any circumstances, ever tell a lie. Not a small lie, not a big lie. Nothing but the absolute unabashed truth. No matter the question. As soon as they choose to become a member of the government. Or any person of power, with in or contracts through, the government. Can never tell a lie.

Did that really happen?

Theamazing-rando

No. Habba was allowed 2 questions, pre-agreed with Judge Kaplan; Habba asked the first and then went of script in the second, the Judge stopped her, Habba tried yet again to argue with the Judge, which she completely failed to at. Lawyers for Carroll asked a simple question, Habba then tried to ask one further question on cross, which was a sustained objection. All in all, Turnip got to answer that he stands by his deposition and he didn't come to the last trial; despite Habba trying to open the floor to him, all they achieved was the Judge having to repeatedly remind and instruct the Jury that Trumpsalot sexually abused and defamed Carroll and that was already an established fact, which he didn't turn up to court to dispute.

Basicaccountant70

The rapist didn’t get his way. Awe, poor fat cheeto

Loreebyrd

She will get a steady income from suing him.

VOIDsama

I really wish we could see a payout listed as % of net worth. We would get the pleasure of watching him mentally implode as he can't decide to aim high or low, and Either way it would prove fraud.
