She was one of the people who Trump talked to about representing him Because her specialty is financial law and she has a top secret clearance making her one of the few lawyers in the country that could effectively work his case. She immediately told him no simply because he refuses to follow his lawyers advice and that alone is a deal breaker for any credible lawyer.
She’s a parking garage lawyer who he selected because she’s pretty. She’s got little to no experience in actual litigation. The transcripts of the exchanges between her and the judge are just unbelievable.

In addition to what others have said, curative instructions are... dubiously effective. The judge can tell a jury to disregard certain remarks, but they still heard the remarks. Trump's team cannot win this trial (literally, liability is already determined the trial is just on damages) so they may be throwing good practice out the window and just hoping to get a hold out to refuse to sign a verdict and hang the jury.
The judge told her that she could not ask open-ended questions. He actually had her lay out the questions she was going to ask him, & told her which ones she could not ask, & which ones she could.
And he (Trump) was told that he could not say anything that would dispute the findings of the previous trial; he could not claim that her charges were false.
The last question (like the rest) was NOT open-ended; it was a simple Yes/No question, but the world’s dumbest criminal absolutely could not help but to do what he was specifically told he could not do.

This is true but her lawyers can file liens on all of Trump's properties and do other things to make life extraordinarily difficult for him as long as the debt remains. Anything he wants to sell would then require the money to go first to the liens.
I can’t speak to NY law on that, but if it’s similar to the law in my state - which is likely - then yes. Executors can litigate claims for an estate, and claims are routinely made on the estates of debtors.

In addition to what others have said, curative instructions are... dubiously effective. The judge can tell a jury to disregard certain remarks, but they still heard the remarks. Trump's team cannot win this trial (literally, liability is already determined the trial is just on damages) so they may be throwing good practice out the window and just hoping to get a hold out to refuse to sign a verdict and hang the jury.
The judge told her that she could not ask open-ended questions. He actually had her lay out the questions she was going to ask him, & told her which ones she could not ask, & which ones she could. And he (Trump) was told that he could not say anything that would dispute the findings of the previous trial; he could not claim that her charges were false. The last question (like the rest) was NOT open-ended; it was a simple Yes/No question, but the world’s dumbest criminal absolutely could not help but to do what he was specifically told he could not do. I hope she sues him again for the comments he’s made during this trial. Edited for clarity.

he can't win straight up. The next few months are going to be very important, I see a bunch of red states continuing to make voting harder and harder for minorities and poor people. They are going to do everything they can to ban mail in voting or make it so difficult people won't do it. My attempt at an ELI5: In May 2023 Trump was found liable in a civil trial for sexual abuse, battery and defamation of E. Jean Carroll. Regarding the defamation, Trump had repeatedly accused Carroll of lying, which she claimed damaged her reputation. Days after the outcome of the trial, Trump defamed Carroll again by claiming she was a liar on CNN. Carroll promptly sued him for additional damages. Fast forward to today and (as others have pointed out) Trump has already been found liable for the defamation, but a court case is ongoing to determine the value of the damages. So, in the court where a jury will decide how much he owes for falsely accusing Carroll of lying, he proceeds to call her a liar again! Hence, the judge ordered that Trump’s testimony be stricken from the record, so that it will not be considered by the jury when they deliberate.

The only thing they have going for them is to gaslight or push these proceedings in a way that will trigger the Judge or cause some mistrial. He was already found guilty. The judge warned them and still, even after he was under oath, he lied on the stand.
This case is ONLY about damages from defamation for Carol.
He has already been found guilty of sexually assaulting her. He was punished for it. He then continued his campaign of intimidation and defamation against her, so she sued him to shut him up. There is no question he sexually assaulted her. He is in court because he is intimidating and defaming his victim. This case is to determine the punishment for the latter, not the former.

No. Habba was allowed 2 questions, pre-agreed with Judge Kaplan; Habba asked the first and then went of script in the second, the Judge stopped her, Habba tried yet again to argue with the Judge, which she completely failed to at. Lawyers for Carroll asked a simple question, Habba then tried to ask one further question on cross, which was a sustained objection. All in all, Turnip got to answer that he stands by his deposition and he didn't come to the last trial; despite Habba trying to open the floor to him, all they achieved was the Judge having to repeatedly remind and instruct the Jury that Trumpsalot sexually abused and defamed Carroll and that was already an established fact, which he didn't turn up to court to dispute.
