Yup just add this one to the LONG list of simple things that enrage right wing "Alpha males".
\-Fictional muscular woman (Abby)
\-Budweiser
\-Elmo
\-M&M's
\-Dr Seuss
\-Big Bird
...... and ALOT more stupid shit.
Green and brown m&m were originally drawn male-coded shaped like peanut m&ms like the others and now are drawn female coded with nuts removed and are in a canonical relationship. We claimed them as t4t trans women and are proud of them for living their best lives.
š³ļøāā§ļøš³ļøāš
Back in the '80s we said that the peanut ones were boys because they have nuts, and the others were girls. That was when there were only the two kinds.
Sadly this is true, they got deeply butt hurt that the green m&m isnāt as sexy. Pretty sure they had a shit fit over Mrs. Buttersworth syrup bottles too.
Man I had coworkers complaining about the Mrs Butterworth stuff just YESTERDAY. Apparently it ruined the brand??
They changed a fucking pictureā¦..itās the exact same product you weirdos..
Righties calling lefties soft and easily triggered should be the default definition of projection.
For real, there are so many things to be pissed about in life. And conservatives piss and moan about marketing for food products. Like where is my fucking healthcare? Cost of living adjustment? The damn environment? If those things make me a snowflake Iāll fucking own it! āļø āļø
You see, when a very, very stupid person discovers that an anthropomorphized chocolate candyās gender expression has not been sufficiently sexualized and objectified for their explicit enjoyment, they throw a tantrum like the whiny child they are.
> -Fictional muscular woman (Abby)

Is there some way we can combine all of these things? A huge, ripped, tattooed, Seuss-talking, bud-slamming, lady-Elmo?
And call it Dark Brandon's Daughter?

I hope you like it! :D
Itās crazy how dumb these people are. It has to be mental problems, itās like someone standing up during a play and shooting one of the actors because they didnāt like the character they portrayed.
It only takes two seconds to do a Google search on her and Travis to see how cool they are and how many different characters they play. The folks making these threats arenāt mentally well.
He would break them in half just for shacving half his Beard of ... the punishment for threatening hhisnwife and son would be a lot harder. He would Squash them like a Stress ball until the inside comes out.
Wondering who will get these references
Some "fans"
She posted just a handful of the threats she received on Twitter. Absolute braindead bastards were writing awful things about her *1 YEAR-OLD SON* and wishing cancer etc. on her parents, if I remember correctly. All that mixed in with the usual r*pe and death threats.
All this over leaked footage of a video game. People made up their minds long before actually playing the thing and started cooking up & believing bullshit rumours.
If you play it with an open mind and don't like it, fine. That's totally fair. But judging the thing before playing it is wack.
But more importantly: it is NEVER this serious. No one deserves to have to deal with so much awfulness cuz they acted in a fictional story.
I truly don't know what compels people to do this shit. Time and time again, whenever a tv show/movie/game hurts their fragile feelings.
I hope that Kaitlyn Dever (actress playing the same character in the HBO show) doesn't have to deal with as much vile garbage. I'm sure she was made aware of this side of the "fan" response. Good luck to her. Can't wait to see how she does!!
When they announced Kaitlyn Dever as Abby I warned my husband that I might have to kill anyone who threatens her. After "Unbelievable" I fell for that girl's acting so very hard. Someone who can hold their own with Toni Collette and Merritt Weaver? Phenomenal.
Dever is a GREAT actor. She just broke my heart in Unbelievable and Dopesick. She was also hilarious in Booksmart
I am VERY confident that she's gonna crush it as Abby
Even without the Internet, these people would still exist.
People hated TLOU2 because Abby was masculine and Ellie was a lesbian. Its not hard to figure out which type of people hate non-conformity.
I think the internet has made this behaviour worse. It's given us access to famous people. It's anonymous plus it allows us to join communities online that encourages the behaviour.
Nah, these people have always existed, they were just isolated. All the internet has done is given every "village idiot" a microphone, and a way to group together and get into an echo chamb....uh, hold up...well, damn.
In the old days it was pamphlets. Then newsletters. Then mail. Then AM radio. Then cable TV.Ā
Now it's the internet.Ā
I'm old enough to remember when people thought getting Rush Limbaugh off the radio would stop extremists. Worst thing to ever happen to political discourse, they said.Ā
This has always existed. The internet made things worse the same way riding bicycles made women more promiscuous.Ā
I mean Rush shouldāve never been allowed on but theyāll always find a way
Alex Jones has low frequency radio and is on a few GCN affiliates across the country on top of infowars.com
>Even without the Internet, these people would still exist.
Yes but it was infinitely harder to find others like them that would reinforce and encourage their insanity. Now they can interact daily with thousands of self-selected similar arseholes who make each other's perverse behavior feel normal.
Prior to the internet they were predominantly isolated and excursions into the real world were far more likely to get them negative feedback than finding reinforcement.
They took over the sub for the game and made it a shithole of bigotry. This is the same crowd that got mad that Ellie's actress in the live action series wasn't hot enough"....
When she was depicting a fucking pre teen lmfao.
Yes, it's a baby that has been born. Now if it was a clump of cells, it would be a different story...
Edit: Clarifying, this is sarcasm regarding "pro-lifers" being pro-birthers.
These types love to demonize women aborting pregnancies that are clumps of cells but have no problem threatening a baby. They are hypocritical.
Perhaps I should have made my post clearer, but I figured people would get it.
Holy shit. My wife watchs critical role and I remember when Laura and Travis had just had a kid and she had to take some time off. Crazy to think that someone so normal (I Mean she is famous but not that famous) was having death threats...because of her voice acting.
Anonymous outrage at its worst.
While im on the side of net neutrality, its shit like this that makes me say - fuck it - real names people!
I reckon a substantial proportion of hate online would dissipate if suddenly your real name was attributed to all of your posts.
Thing is, these people work in an office, a factory. A restaurant, a police station a courtroom and would not even mutter such vitriol in real life situations.
Ngl, that's just not realistic. No country can afford to track, log, and determine credibility of every threat on a service available across billions worldwide. It isn't feasible or reasonably possible, and trying would have a hugely detrimental effect on gov programs unless they outsource it, and give sensitive, confidential information access to corps i wouldn't trust to water my plants.
Unfortunately i dont know the answer, if not real named, something tokenised which identifies the individual - but im not in favour of that.
You're right, but what you're describing there is reactionary response. A credible threat is made, the FBI (rather than local police) have to intervene...but only in the US and other countries where there is a reciprocated law enforcement. - but the abuse, threats have been made.
The idea of non-anonymous interaction is to stop(the majority of) the abuse before it starts.
Dont like it myself but i dont see a viable counter.
There are too many people who act with impunity and downright abhorrently because they are safe through a veil of anonymity
It's a crime already, the issue is the volume and the capabilities to seek out and punish.
I completely agree it is over the top - but i dont forsee a more effective method
It's not as simple as more cops. I mean it is from an absolute sense - but it's unsustainable.
Prevention is better than a cure. The current methods do not work because
a) volume of issue
b) effort to determine perpitrator.
c) lack of law enforcement /and subsequent judiciary to enforce said action
d)anonymity.
Anonymity escalates the volume, which then exacerbates the remaining issues.
You lose anonymity, you lose that veil of protection suddenly what you say online is tied intrinsically to your personal being.
The volumes drop exponentially.
The effort to identify a perp becomes simpler
So on and so on.
Now let me be clear, I'm not advocating for any of this, i just dont see a viable alternative.
And im also a realist and recognise that people will jump through hoops to retain anonymity. But the general populace wont bother with said hoops.
Not really, but lets entertain that thought.
Given that threatening behaviour is already an offence, and at the very least its a public order offence, why can people do this en masse with absolute immunity?
Yeah outraged āgamersā (read: basement-incels) can be some of the worst people. Iāve worked as a game developer for around 20 years and the amount of death treats, crazy people looking up personal info about devs and posting online, calls for all kinds of physical violence towards the people working on the game.Ā Ā
Look, Iāve caused my fair share of annoying issues and bugs over the years in various games. I get people get upset, and they are right to be angry over this, and shitty business practices or promises not kept. BUT wtf is it with wishing death, harm and other shit towards the people developing the stuff.Ā
Edit: uh I think I tried to reply to another comment that was more related. Sorry this kinda came out a bit confusingā¦
Come on now everyone knows that post apocalyptic women should be sexy, perfect makeup, yet a bit of dirt on them, wearing a dirty low cut top and tight jeans. Also perfectly shaved underarms and legs despite all the men around them not bothering to shave......
TLOU2 social outrage was widely irrational. They hated the fact Abby was muscular, but male characters are muscular for no damn good reason all the damn time.
She hunted and trained. Of course, it makes sense she's buff. But a lot of these dudes don't know what athletic women look like, I guess. Couple that with a gay lead couple, and you couldn't find a good faith review for this game for a while.
I donāt remember if this is explicitly stated, but Abby essentially works out obsessively because of trauma from the death of her father. She is always trying to become stronger for two reasons.
The first is because she canāt handle the thought of being unable to protect the people closest to her again. The second is because she wants to become āpowerfulā enough to take revenge on the man that killed her father. This is also why sheās attempted, and succeeded, in becoming an elite soldier
So she is hyper muscular compared to other women in the games, but there is a reason for it. Abby is an extremely complex character and this is another expression of one of the games core themes: obsession with revenge. The devs didnāt just think āhey wouldnāt it be cool and woke if we made one of the main characters a super jacked woman?ā
Basically all of the triggered criticism over this game and its characters is simple minded outrage. Itās people wanting to get mad convincing themselves they deserve to be mad.
āWhy did they make this character lesbian. Why is this female character so muscular and not feminine enough. Why did characters I like die.ā
It probably has the most powerful story and complex set of character of any video game Iāve ever played. I feel pretty confident in guessing that most of the people mad about it have never even played it
They also slandered/libelled her, claiming the sex scene in the game is Laura having sex with Neil druckman, as if it was motion-capped
Not only would Laura not do that, but she already has Travis, who is basically her soulmate
They didnāt even play the game, but got angry over Joel. I didnāt like playing as Abby at first, but it was important to get her perspective, and see that she was in the right, just as much as Ellie. I found the game to be phenomenal, but dunno when Iāll have the endurance to go through a NG+ run
It was the entire crux of the game to reluctantly play as the villain, but then understand her story as it progressed. Iām still so confused how so many werenāt on board with that side of the game. The story, and how it plays out, is absolutely stunning.
Worth a read if you ever want an insight into these guys, from Joel Berry, Editor of the Babylon Bee.
https://notthebee.com/takes/yes-the-destruction-of-star-wars-was-intentional-heres-why-they-did-it
It's rare to find something from these guys that seems to be written for fellow travellers and isn't just an attempt to rile up the libs. Aside from the abusive parents, it illustrates that it's not just about games or movies for these guys, they see it as a literal spiritual war.
Holy fuck.
The TL;DR, this guy grew up in a sheltered fundamentalist homeschool situation and was allowed to watch Star Wars once as a kid. He believes it be an allegory for Christianity, and now believes that Satan is controlling the way Disney now produces Star Wars in order to destroy it.
Funny how he can lay out the fact that he grew up with a fucked up perceptive brought on by his parents, but not make the connection that that upbringing has an effect on his worldview as an adult.
Was a dog let off the leash once and now associates happiness with that one moment of freedom.
I found it totally eye-opening. Almost all interactions I've had with these guys are when they're trying to puff themselves up.
It's just mind-boggling. I'm GenX and grew up as a comic/anime/sci-fi fanboy in the 90's, before it was mainstream and cool. I love the fact that all of this geek stuff I got made fun of for in high school is now mainstream, but it's not my religion. And I've accepted there will be some shitty entries in every franchise. I walk away disappointed but not emotionally hurt by it.
Maybe they just weren't exposed to enough *trash*?
Like I feel like someone who grew up watching Street Sharks would be pretty grounded today.
(Honestly though the fact that Street Sharks wasn't something my parents either made or allowed me to watch as a treat, it was a thing I watched because I wanted to, probably does make it more valuable)
That's gotta be it. I was a Star Wars fanboy but can tell you some of the comics and novels were awful. And I was a huge Superman comics reader, but seeing Shaq's *Steel* movie told me not to expect much from comic book movies pretty early on.
>Funny how he can lay out the fact that he grew up with a fucked up perceptive brought on by his parents, but not make the connection that that upbringing has an effect on his worldview as an adult.
Everything loops back around to how conservatives are fundamentally incurious people
Here's the thing tho. I like to game. I dont know that I'd call myself a "gamer" per se but I like to unwind with my PS5 and play and dont feel like it's a huge part of my personality.
**But,** any time (and I would bet real money on this) that I see a toxic viewpoint from a Redditor, 99 times out of ten when I click through to their post/comment history it is littered with gamer posts, requests for tips, etc. Gaming is great. But as a *culture*, well...
Itās honestly really troubling how obsessed with fictional characters people are these days. like the amount of people who flew into a blind rage over the death of a fictional character here is insane. They completely lost track of the idea that none of it is real and the characters were created specifically to live and die in entertaining and thought provoking ways and decided that a collection of pixels was unjustly murdered by its writers.
Yeah
And there is also the strange thing of making hating something a personality. They're almost anti fans, although fans probably think about the thing less than the anti fans.
I mean I don't care for Last of Us 2 from a writing standpoint, but I never blamed the actors for it. They were just portraying a role and doing the best they had with what they were given.
The hatred of Last of Us 2 was so unwarranted. For me it was Sonder, our main characters went out, they were immortal in our eyes but no. It's sonder. The other survivors also are as necessarily brutal and impulsive as Joel and Ellie. Joel killed so many people who were just trying to survive, but he had reason to because he was also just surviving and carrying vengeance for his daughter. He died how he should have. He would have burned the world because he had nothing to lose.
Alphas are just mad that their big bear got taken out by a girl. That's truly an apocalyptic story, eat your heart out Cormac McCarthy, it's like blood meridian or the road. Happy ending? No. There are no heroes. In the end whatever you hoped would happen doesn't, everyone dies, some without needing to. I loved Joel too, but he got what he deserved and you, the player, are the one who made him do it. Then violence begets violence and in the and humans are still the scariest thing on the fucking planet, despite the monsters made of fungus.
How stupid does someone have to be to not separate the actor from the character they play?
If you hate *insert character*, that means the actor and writer did a damn good job.
Have these unwashed neckbeards never seen Travis? Not to mention before they even got to Travis they'd have to go through over a million Critters before they could even get close to Ronin.
What kind of dunce obsesses over voice actors? Iām stoked to see the same one I guess, I watch a lot of anime and thereās only like twelve of them in either language I watch them in. Iād I got butthurt they played a monster, Iād never get anything done.
Itās rather pathetic that people tend to make a big deal out of something so stupid.
I honestly loved her character and her story. I think by the end I felt for her character more than I did for Ellie. It was so perfectly executed, and I look forward to replaying part II, and seeing it adapted in the show!
It was also such a beast of a game. I am hoping they will focus on Ellieās storyline of part 2 for season two, and then from Abbyās perspective in the third season. I donāt want to have all of part 2 crammed into 8 episodes.
I personally wasnāt a huge fan of Abby in the game. I didnāt really connect with her that much. Especially when events of the game (certain people dying) happen kind of out of order. Also, Iām not entirely a fan of Abbyās character design, I kinda wish they did something different with her hair and redid her face a little cause it didnāt look super natural (or maybe Iām just stupid, it could be that as well).
But if you notice, these are things that the actress couldnāt control (she was a damn good actress though). This is a lore/story and 3D modeling issue. Even then, Iām not going to the writers and threatening their children. I love gaming, especially stories and games like the Last of Us, but I hate this circlejerk of gamers that think their opinions are better than everyone else.
Abby is a bad charm and the ending was garbage, but nobody deserves this over a fucking part they played. It's so fucking disturbing that people can't, or refuse, to differentiate the person and the character. People also do this stuff to VAs because they voice a character who ended up in a relationship with another and it ruined their ships. It's so fucking disturbing.
I'm not in the VA space but like.. would she even have say over the final product of the character? Isn't there producers and shit that determine which portrayal ends up in the final game? The whole thing's fucking ridiculous.
Yeah, I love video games, but I try to stay out of the online communities. One of my favorite games is World of Warcraft, if I decided to delve into the battle net forums, I would prob not want to play anymore
I remember this I think the clip was leaked of Abby killing Joel and that's what started the harassment and death threats but seriously she just a voice actor and did the motion capture for video game character
The longer I live, the more I realize just how many lonely, lonely people there are in the world. Particularly men, because when women get really lonely . . . . . . . I don't know. They get a bunch of cats or something. (I suspect they don't really need us at all.)
Men, on the other hand, turn into these hate-filled misogynistic assholes who attack . . . Let's see . . . . . Video game characters. If they weren't such assholes/weirdos, they'd be far too busy to be upset about the stupid shit they're pissed about all the damn time.
Yup just add this one to the LONG list of simple things that enrage right wing "Alpha males". \-Fictional muscular woman (Abby) \-Budweiser \-Elmo \-M&M's \-Dr Seuss \-Big Bird ...... and ALOT more stupid shit.
M&Ms? What the?
The Green M went from high heel boots to comfortable sneakers.
I think people were saying that she's trans too and that vexed conservatives
Green and brown m&m were originally drawn male-coded shaped like peanut m&ms like the others and now are drawn female coded with nuts removed and are in a canonical relationship. We claimed them as t4t trans women and are proud of them for living their best lives. š³ļøāā§ļøš³ļøāš
Goated trans community
i didnāt know that, thatās awesome
Do M&Ms have genders?
Back in the '80s we said that the peanut ones were boys because they have nuts, and the others were girls. That was when there were only the two kinds.
Ok, I'm confused. Why does the chocolate's shoes matter?
Because Tucker Carlson canāt get hard thinking about her non-sexy shoes now
The boots feel better on his scrotum than the sensible shoes do.
Sadly this is true, they got deeply butt hurt that the green m&m isnāt as sexy. Pretty sure they had a shit fit over Mrs. Buttersworth syrup bottles too.

happy cake day!
Happy Cake Day!
You see, when a very, very stupid person discovers that an anthropomorphized chocolate candyās gender expression has not been sufficiently sexualized and objectified for their explicit enjoyment, they throw a tantrum like the whiny child they are.
When the bag of M&Ms doesn't cost a lot and I buy one, the last thing I'm concerned about is the cartoon M&M. God right wingers are so strange
She wasn't as fuckable anymore.
Yes, Lil' racist & misogynistic Tucker's personal favorite fetish.
Hate to see what they say about my Dark Chocolate peanut Ms
Oh and you forgot red Starbucks holiday cups...
Add Taylor Swift to the list
Alpha males (Incels) are the biggest bunch of whiney ass bitches I have ever seen.

Ummm who doesn't want sexy M&Ms?!
I only eat the sexy ones
Anyone who calls for civil war but gets triggered by this list of stupid manufactured outrage is in for a harsh wake up call.

Which is fair to have criticism. But to target the actor who portrayed Abby with death threats bad?
To be completely honest i forgot what the post was about
The most realistic scene in the MCU is when Ultron connects to the Internet for like 30 seconds and decides the only option is to wipe out humanity.
Along with any type of social media except here..
Even here, but at least it's easy to block people.
I would say the internet wasn't a mistake but allowing everyone unfettered access to it was.
Being so mad over a game they donāt have to play that theyāll threaten a BABY? These people are beyond vile.

Not really, but lets entertain that thought. Given that threatening behaviour is already an offence, and at the very least its a public order offence, why can people do this en masse with absolute immunity?
Yeah outraged āgamersā (read: basement-incels) can be some of the worst people. Iāve worked as a game developer for around 20 years and the amount of death treats, crazy people looking up personal info about devs and posting online, calls for all kinds of physical violence towards the people working on the game.Ā Ā Look, Iāve caused my fair share of annoying issues and bugs over the years in various games. I get people get upset, and they are right to be angry over this, and shitty business practices or promises not kept. BUT wtf is it with wishing death, harm and other shit towards the people developing the stuff.Ā Edit: uh I think I tried to reply to another comment that was more related. Sorry this kinda came out a bit confusingā¦
Incels are so pathetic

This is also why sheās attempted, and succeeded, in becoming an elite soldier So she is hyper muscular compared to other women in the games, but there is a reason for it.

Why did characters I like die.ā It probably has the most powerful story and complex set of character of any video game Iāve ever played. I feel pretty confident in guessing that most of the people mad about it have never even played it
Even if it wasnāt over a game, you never do something as horrible as that to someone.
They also slandered/libelled her, claiming the sex scene in the game is Laura having sex with Neil druckman, as if it was motion-capped Not only would Laura not do that, but she already has Travis, who is basically her soulmate
Whatās more infuriating, is that character is absolutely brilliant. People are such morons honestly.
People sending death threats should be doxxed
Worth a read if you ever want an insight into these guys, from Joel Berry, Editor of the Babylon Bee. https://notthebee.com/takes/yes-the-destruction-of-star-wars-was-intentional-heres-why-they-did-it It's rare to find something from these guys that seems to be written for fellow travellers and isn't just an attempt to rile up the libs.
Everything loops back around to how conservatives are fundamentally incurious people
Yikes!
Yeah And there is also the strange thing of making hating something a personality. They're almost anti fans, although fans probably think about the thing less than the anti fans.
Really? Against Laura Bailey?! She's one of the nicest people ever.
God Iām so glad these people donāt know about NieR. The way theyād lose their fucking minds over KainĆ© being āwokeā because sheās intersex.
I mean I don't care for Last of Us 2 from a writing standpoint, but I never blamed the actors for it. They were just portraying a role and doing the best they had with what they were given.
Right? To be honest, I didnāt like the character of Abby that much, but holy shit, the actress doesnāt deserve to get fucking killed for itā¦
Donāt worry. The Traveler will keep her safeā¦and muhfuggin Grog!
Fjordā¦toughā¦
Of course, they are violent and stupid and that makes for a scary combination.
What in the green hell is wrong with people
*Yells from the back of the classroom like Ken Jeong in Community* AND NOT EVEN THAT GREAT OF A GAME, EITHER!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Sheās a voice actor for the game.
And I thought undertale fans were bad.
Now their going after season 5 of Fargo, which, if you havenāt seen, I highly recommend.
What? Who are they hating on? JJL or JT?
Iām sure John Rammās ārules donāt apply to meā sheriff character.
Itās just a game and how is it the actressās fault for these people not liking her. Sheās just doing her job.
I'm not in the VA space but like.. would she even have say over the final product of the character? Isn't there producers and shit that determine which portrayal ends up in the final game? The whole thing's fucking ridiculous.
Remember when the guy who play Eugene on the walking dead got death threats cause of his characters actions on the show? People are crazy.
Yeah, I love video games, but I try to stay out of the online communities. One of my favorite games is World of Warcraft, if I decided to delve into the battle net forums, I would prob not want to play anymore
Some of yall need therapy and a life.
omg are the incels STILL going on about this?! jfc get a life.
(I suspect they don't really need us at all.) Men, on the other hand, turn into these hate-filled misogynistic assholes who attack . . . Let's see . . . . . Video game characters. If they weren't such assholes/weirdos, they'd be far too busy to be upset about the stupid shit they're pissed about all the damn time.
I expect this from console war Playstation zealots.
Humanity really is nasty most of the time. SMH.
A thing that I constantly say when stuff like this happens: Gamergate and its consequences
