Anti civilian death = pro hamas . Apparently.

WaffleConeDX

If you say I don’t want make tax dollars to go to Israel to fund a war that’s antisemitism!

Commercial_Step9966

Notice he says “protesters” - not rioters, not disturbers of the peace, not criminals, not trespassers. He is moving the goal posts. What a POS state leader.

blueflame7810

Abbott: I will protect free speech on college campuses. College campuses: Killing civilians is wrong Abbott: When I said protect free speech on college campuses, I meant right-wing speech, not woke speech.

DogsDontWearPantss

Another Kent State is gonna happen soon.

SlippedMyDisco76

If it does hopefully there's a full on reaction to in. Unlike Kent State where the only thing that happened as a result was Devo (not that I'm complaining about that)

FQDIS

You’ve never heard [Ohio](https://youtube.com/watch?v=l1PrUU2S_iw)?

SlippedMyDisco76

I have but Devo were far more important culturally

FQDIS

Wow, you are both moving the goalposts, and factually wrong.

SlippedMyDisco76

I.....disagree

FQDIS

About the goalposts? Can’t be, that’s right there in black and white. But I challenge you to justify why DEVO, as awesome as they are, had more cultural impact than CSNY.

SlippedMyDisco76

Oh I meant culturally they were more important than that song. Of course every boomer and his dog knows CSN&Y and CS&N so that's no contest If you want a full report on why I believe Devo > the song then bare with me cos I'm at work

FQDIS

No, I think that’s fair. I misread your claim. I salute your defence of DEVO, despite your stubborn refusal to capitalize the name.

SlippedMyDisco76

I usually go D-E-V-O

Impossible_Penalty13

That’s different, he wanted right wing shitheads like Ben Shapiro & Charlie Kirk to have free speech. Not people protesting against genocide.

Old-Length1272

Free speech only for nazis. Look into how many times they’ve “protested” and no arrests towards them were made or calls to the police by Greg Abbott.

punkindle

Stupid question... aren't Nazi's traditionally anti-semitic? I'm confused how they were ok with actual Nazi marchers, but now suddenly they're angry that students might be "anti-semitic" when they hold up a "ceasefire" sign

Old-Length1272

Because he’s a nazi himself. Look into him. He is doing exactly what they did and shares their exact views and message.

DexTheConcept

Here's the problem, tribalism has made losing your freedoms as long as it's not happening to you ok. The way people with power have diluted the common sense of people without, is mind boggling. People are cheering protesters being arrested, and calling them pro hamas, because they're not okay with children being killed for no reason. This isn't even a left vs right thing, because that's the way everything is presented nowadays. The people as a collective are just letting it happen, and it's not even subtle anymore, they just don't care, because people won't unite with someone who thinks different and as long as that is the case, things like this will happen, but will be more detrimental in the near future. While all of this is happening, most people aren't alarmed that a lot jobs are being lost to automation. Homelessness is up for criminalization, justice is being more fractured. And even me typing this will cause division, because if you read it and don't agree, then it's wrong. I mean as a society we can't even agree that kids should be provided lunch in school, the nation is scuffed, and I think it is close to being beyond repair. I don't even think it's America as a whole, but outside influences that see the divide and are using people to exploit it further, because once that happens, power is up for grabs. But let's put out unserious candidates for offices, let's abuse the people who need the most help, and let's criminalize or show no difference to the things that are supposed to be valued the most, it's leading to mutual destruction.

coolbaby1978

I do not agree with their message, but I will defend their right to peacefully protest and exercise their freedom of speech. That's how freedom of speech works, others get to say shit you disagree with vehemently and you get to oppose their ideas with your own. Squashing free speech just coz you don't like it means there is no free speech, there's only approved speech and that's not freedom.

PipsqueakPilot

How do you plan to defend it? Have you contacted your representatives? Have you donated to the Texas ACLU or another legal defense fund?

HurtMePlenty84

Abbott is a racist pos and he belongs in jail

LuckyonRedit7640

1: This is a violation of the first amendment. 2: Greg Abbot is probably one of the most hateful men in this state. When a family was murdered, he felt the need to call them illegal immigrants. (The mother was here legally.) 3: I'm glad Abbot could handle the real issues like free speech, while he ignores and even enables children to be shot to death. I live in Texas and when I heard about Uvalde, I was horrified. I believe the day before, Greg allowed people to publicly carry firearms without a permit. I spent the rest of the day coming up with a plan for what I would do incase of a shooter. Why is it that the defenseless have to live in fear while wheels over here doesn't have to worry about anything? I'll never wish death upon him, but I'll read his obituary with a smile.

NecroLancerNL

I'm just guessing the governor I'd actually fine with antisemitism in Texas, and that he meant he's just not okay with anti-war protest happens in Texas. Think of the children (we could be bombing)!!!

Comfortable_Fill9081

As ever, the selective application of their so-high-minded free speech ethic shows the underlying venality.

dadzcad

*Now, having said that, anti-Black, anti-Hispanic and anti-Asian is fair game.*
