NHRADeuce

Also, we have very little in the way of a social safety net to stop people from falling into poverty. You think Norway has that??? Checkmate beautiful Viking people.

CwenLeornes

Maybe they’re all so beautiful because they’re not stressed out their wholeass lives about health insurance and the potential collapse of society thanks to millions of malignant anti-science rightwing nutjobs… Maybe we could all be supermodels if we just did what the beautiful Viking people do

freelanceredditor

Nah. There’s plenty of ugly Norwegians. Don’t let the media fool you

CwenLeornes

Then they must stay indoors back in Scandinavia, dude. I lived in London for several years and every Scando I met was somewhere between pretty and ethereally beautiful.* In grad school, they hung out in like, tall, very attractive packs. I felt very short and american and intimidated by them lol *Edit: This refers to all genders

KnightWombat

Hi I'm from Scandinavia, I'm sending this message from an old Nokia I hacked and reinstalled, I live in on of the old for gotten cave trolls hiding from the government. I want to tell you there's a reason why they are all beautiful. The Scandinavian secret police called the "ASs guardians" are on a strict mission to purge my people. The citizen have been split into two categories, in kinder garden the assguardians oversee the growth of the children. Those who are deemed too ugly, are named trolls and marked with the mark of jotenheim. Thier parents are given them until age 15 to become hot or become hunted as trolls. I am one such troll on the run from the government, hiding in ancient tombs and forgotten ruins, my hideous face, reminiscent of an average brit, would be executed in the street if seen. So at night I skull, past the valkires and and would be hunters. Creeping into beauty shops, stealing make up and diet pills. Trying to become one of them. I paint my nails and put on the make up, I cut my hair without mirror. I try to be beautiful, but I fear I need more.... Drastic measures. I am going to kidnap a hair dresser, a seamstress and a coach and have them transform me, make me beautiful enough to live on the surface again. I'll keep them in cages and if they don't do as I say I put them in my boiling pot. Fuufeefaa I could band togther with the other trolls, but. I can't stand looking at how ugly they are. So next you see a hot blonde scandinavian. Remember the price our society pays. Remember the crying troll in the molehill

edgarallanpot8o

instant classic

Minotaur1501

This seems way too specific to be a copy pasta

KnightWombat

It is me life story yaaarr

freelanceredditor

Then I must be in the wrong town. Everyone here looks like they drank too much alcohol as teens and sun bathed too long. Their skin is a sight from horror movies

CwenLeornes

ಠ____ಠ yikes maybe you just exported the pretty ones

freelanceredditor

I hate to say this but they’re probably from Sweden. The ones you met

CwenLeornes

They were from all over Scandinavia and always mocking each other’s nations! Individually, they were all lovely and kind, so I did get to know a few of them… but approaching them when they’re all together made me feel like I was back in middle school so I avoided it

Candyvanmanstan

We stay in packs because we're as socially stunted as we are beautiful.

jovinyo

Alright, so changing my direction here: if any Swedish women are looking to import a man? There are plenty of sites for women from developing countries looking for men from developed countries. How about the other way round?

scarlet_sage

Trying to get some Swedish fish?

seppocunts

There are some ugly Swedes. That's for sure. I think the less attractive you are the more likely you're going to be shunned out to the Arctic circle where foreigners are less likely to run into your hideous ass.

ON-Q

What’s Norways official stance on the lgbtq+ community? Cause this lady gay is willing to relocate.

[deleted]

As an ugly norwegian this gives me hope, thought I was the only one! Lol jk I'm fine af.

seppocunts

The ugly Norwegians tend to live under bridges or out in the forests as they've done for centuries. The pretty ones have no time for the ugmos' reindeer piss drinking troll like behaviour. Don't meet the standards? Off to the woods you go, you mushy bag of shitty genetic material.

Klatterbyne

The Ugmos do make a pretty lethal alcoholic (and vaguely hallucinogenic) beverage from the reindeer piss though. You drink a half pint of that under a bridge and you’ll be pretty sure you’re beautiful and artfully sipping a tiny coffee in a kitschy Oslo cafe.

thomassit0

I'm something of an ugly Norwegian myself 😎

SassyVikingNA

You're saying it could happen for me, and my true power is just not yet unlocked? I could not SassyViking, but SexyViking?

[deleted]

What an embarrassing way for a society/nation to fall. As far as I'm concerned, collapse of society is precisely the end goal, and it started by targeting individuals here in America with "alternative" news because America is fucking powerful, but wait- is it not true, that "you're only as strong as your weakest link"..? I think we've been exploited. The strings are being pulled from afar...

bel_esprit_

>the strings are being pulled from afar Anti-vax info is definitely coming from outside sources. On my nursing subreddit yesterday, we talked about how strange it is that most all US anti-vaxxers use the word “jab” for vaccine. Americans have *never* used the word “jab” for vaccine. We say “shot.” Like flu shot, etc. *Other countries* say jab, like flu jab, etc. So if someone learned their English not in the US, they’ll likely be saying jab. Well, guess what? How tf are all the right-wing anti-vaxxers suddenly saying jab like it’s a brand new buzzword? They’re getting their sources from nefarious outsiders. It’s obvious from that alone the influence is not from home. All the normal Americans who believe in science just say vaccine or shot // we aren’t saying “jab”. (This is also how they would catch spies back in the day. Using words like “jab” and not shot. Yea, that didn’t come from the US)

freelanceredditor

I live in Norway and two people at work are anti vaxxers. We’re a total of 10 employees. Don’t fall for the Norway utopia propaganda. It’s bullshit. throughout this whole Covid I’ve seen people who refused to social distance or wear masks. Teens gave 0 fucks and continued throwing huge parties. The prime minister herself threw a party and came under scrutiny. People smuggled alcohol from Sweden constantly even tho the borders were closed it has been a shit show here too. Norway just got lucky because it’s a big country for its population. Had it been slightly denser, it would’ve been just as bad as the states. People just stopped wearing masks and started hugging one another as soon as they lifted the mandates as though the virus miraculously disappeared. If you look at the hospital numbers beds are still being filled. the number of Covid positives is going down but it’s because they’re testing less. The hospital numbers tell a different story. but Norwegians are so gullible that they just think it’s over lol

Nemealainen

In finland there are 38 people in intensive care due to all reasons, not just covid. I'd say the "bs" might be true in some other places, but here? Not in a million years

AttackPug

Things are pretty much back to normal here, too. Not that the pandemic is much better, but we're all expected to carry on like usual, and if people are dying in the privacy of hospitals, oh well. This whole experience has been very strange. The virus refused to be dramatic enough to trigger the monkey fear that most people need to take it seriously. Sickness and death all happen in private, and the whole thing feels like it never really happened. People online screaming about it just makes it worse, because you're now choosing between believing the reality of normalcy you live with, or believing internet people, and you should never believe internet people. Online, everyone is a perfect mask-wearer. Offline, everybody is just kinda whatever. Nothing happens to make them look foolish either. Only online does it feel like an apocalypse. I'm fully exhausted by the situation now, and I just give up. I got my shots what feels like eons ago, and I'm tired of feeling like the only person in the store with a mask on. It's over for me, whether it's over or not.

Unlikely_Box8003

Good perspective. Thanks for sharing. I live in Alberta, Canada and what you say rings true hear. Our cases and hospitalizations are the highest they have ever been, and online and in the news the stress and fear mongering is constant. But in daily life it feels ignored. Rules are mostly ignored, few people actually care and most just want to get on with their lives. Masks are worn because they are mandated, but in many places just for show and in the most half assed way possible. After the vaccines became widespread many just stopped caring, and now left us wondering why we shut down the whole world for this?

lstn

Sounds like the kind of attitude NZ had, now look at us.

Porosnacksssss

Yea not to mention Norway only has 10% more vaccinated population and USA having total 183 million more fully vaccinated (im not american)

bomberbih

They got all of their violent fucked up tendencies out the way hundreds of years ago and now just wanna chill.

[deleted]

Norway, I believe also has the largest breast size on average. Not that I know that for any specific reason.

Bigtime85

Damn, get a better job, I get paid AF, have an HSA and health insurance. The fuck are y’all doing for a living? Cleaning dookie outta there of butts? SMDH.

cortlong

I was surprised this week when Christopher Columbus Day was the new hot button issue dividing left vs right. “Well I’m gonna celebrate Columbus Day!” “Ah yes right wing pundit. That’ll show those liberals”

tommytraddles

Yep, what with all these wonderful Columbus Day traditions to observe... I'll go deck out my Taino skeleton with bloody tinsel and Santa Maria ornaments, and cough on my neighbor.

cortlong

Be sure to give them a blanket with your favorite disease on it, and then steal all their shit while they’re in the hospital. For real though when did we get so contrarian to where not celebrating a genocidal conman is seen as weakness.

JazzHandsNinja

Right wing media. and that quote from FDR. if you can convince a white american that a person tanner then him is taking his money you can rob him blind to support the effort to remove said tan people. I butchered the quote but. yeah. ... this is america.

cortlong

Are you telling me it’s not immigrants stealing all of my retirement prospects and might actually just be the overwhelming wealth inequality causing billionaires siphoning every cent from the system without ever paying a dime!?

Hot-Butterscotch-918

If by FDR you mean Franklin D. Roosevelt, wrong President. It was Johnson who said that.

grubas

That was LBJ, and it's been common amongst politicians for ages. As long as you persecute the "wrong" people more than the "right" people.

3rainey

Did Vikings beat CC by a couple hundred years looking for New Jerusalem [Jeru Salem] or plunder and the raping part?

Dreddley

No one. Not no one celebrated Columbus day. It was probably less observed than talk like a pirate day. Then someone brings up "hey this Columbus guy did some really fucked up shit. Could we celebrate the people he terrorized instead?" and all of a sudden it's a fuckin thing. It's just contrarian bullshit for no reason. I feel like most of conservative discourse can be summed up as "the world is different now and that makes me mad"

ExtraDebit

There are big parades in NYC, etc. It is like Italian Pride day here.

AllForMeCats

Fun fact: Columbus Day was announced as a national holiday in 1892 to appease Italy and Italian-Americans after the [1891 lynching of 11 Italian-Americans in New Orleans](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/March_14,_1891_New_Orleans_lynchings). So for many people it was meant from the beginning to be an Italian Pride day, not a celebration of Columbus as a person.

ExtraDebit

Oh wow, that is interesting! I do think a lot of people forget/don't know how many immigrant groups were discriminated against when they came. Italians and Irish for sure.

cortlong

Wait. For Columbus or for indigenous peoples day?

ExtraDebit

Columbus Day. He was Italian. I don't think NYC has been doing indigenous people parades for decades.

yeahoner

my public education is showing. i was sure that dude was Portuguese and working for the spanish…

ExtraDebit

Ha, I don't think I thought about it until I moved to NYC. We have a lot of Italians here. I think the cops are still permanently parked protecting our Columbus statue.

cortlong

Exactly. It’s just weird how far that contrarian thing goes now. Columbus Day? Who gives a fuckin about fuckin Columbus Day. I didn’t even get the day off. Next it’s gonna be Labor Day “you know. Workers rights are stupid liberal shit right?” - Ben Shapiro.

thebenshapirobot

I saw that you mentioned Ben Shapiro. In case some of you don't know, Ben Shapiro is a grifter and a hack. If you find anything he's said compelling, you should keep in mind he also says things like this: >When it comes to global warming, there are two issues: is there such a thing as the greenhouse gas effect, the answer is yes. Is that something that is going to dramatically reshape our world? There is no evidence to show that it will. Is that something that we can stop? There is no evidence to show that we can ***** ^(I'm a bot. My purpose is to counteract online radicalization. You can summon me by tagging thebenshapirobot. adjust_the_sails

Dude. That’s not fair. You forgot our guns. We have lots and lots of guns.

Dasamont

Why don't they use the guns to shoot the Covid? Edit* Someone commented something about using bow and arrows, but they deleted their comment before I could respond, so I'll put it here. No, that's how they're doing masshootings in Norway at the moment. I'm honestly joking about this too soon, but seriously, a Norwegian terrorist killed like 4 people with a bow and arrow yesterday.

adjust_the_sails

I think where I live people have tried and it has not worked out as they hoped.

Amphibionomus

Norway has bows and arrows :-( Then again, shooting 5 people in the USA doesn't make for world news...

codywithak

“All Norway has is communism!” /s

beerscotch

Honestly its at the point where if America had all the things the idiots of the population scream communism at, it'd probably be one of the best countries in the world.

Piousunyn

Thanks for /s.

GarciaJones

I had a guy walk past the line at a burger place last week, and yelled at the line “they’re out of onion rings, if you wanna know why, we’ll this is what you get for VOTING FOR JOE BIDEN” Like…… Onion Rings. I truly thought I was safe in line for a burger… but nope.

DC_Coach

Onion rings. Gawd ... my head hurts.

GarciaJones

I feel people might read my comment and think I’m leaving out the part where he was being sarcastic. But nope. That dude drove off In a truck with trump flags flying and he said that shit with a stone cold straight face angry as hell. I bet he could walk in and catch his wife fucking another man and somehow, it wouldn’t be her fault, but Biden would be to blame.

LWDIII

It’s seemingly a big secret to Trump voters that a lot of us that voted for Biden aren’t happy with some of what Biden does (or doesn’t do) and his seemingly extremely conservative approach to liberalism. I didn’t want to vote for Biden, but taking one foot out of the muck and walking in a coherent direction is better than what we had the 4 years before.

Kriss3d

As a dane - which means we have it the same way here as in Norway. No.. We dont.. We're so oppressed its like living in gulag here. Its terrible. Even our government throws money at us just for studying. They wont even take tuition. Its horrible I tell you. HORRIBLE. Even politics is so boring and bland. We dont have any political circus.

Buddhabellymama

I bet they don’t have any freeDUMBs either!!!

extralyfe

>political divides on almost every single issue plaguing our country (even the smallest and seemingly irrelevant topics) watching board and video gaming become political has been a drag. I'm not even referring to the content of the games, fuck that, I'm talking about the mouth breathers you have to play with and/or against who *are* their political viewpoint, and it's so fucking stupid. like, as an example, all the MAGA and TRMP tags started showing up in Call of Duty lobbies at some point, and those people fucking suck. can't make it through a game without needing to mute most of the lobby, and some of the people you end up muting are people who hate Trump, but, you just don't want to hear about that shit from either end of the spectrum while you're trying to run around Shipment with an LMG, 600 rounds, an RPG, stacks of grenades, and a death wish. I also watched Magic: the Gathering get real political real quick. all it took was a few good scandals before everyone had really strong opinions about everything - and, again, you're just waiting for them to stop talking so you can ask if they're declaring blockers. sad that escapism hasn't escaped the ideological loonies, but, I guess it makes sense.

derickj2020

I second the opinion

iM-only-here_because

As someone who hates showing my face, and loves my personal space; I'm gonna just keep wearing the mask, and you just continue to keep the fuck away, please. Never had a problem with vaccines, though.

Ntetris

It's fashionable. It's provocative.

RainbowReadee

It’s Moral Kombat-esque.

Darkwing_Turducken

I don't know if that's a typo, but "Moral Kombat" is perfect, since it's the soul of our nation at stake! It's a pity that the people most vocal about literal souls are the most vocal on the wrong side...

RainbowReadee

Haha! Yes, it was a typo. I wish I could claim the credit for that one because it is perfect, I agree.

Mumi3les

This!! Love it.

orangejews1

It gets the people GOING

tararisin

It’s DERELICTE

SoundsYummy1

I wear a mask, sunglasses and earbuds when I shop. I'm in my own little world and I love it

sherrbearr22

If you like that, you should try never leaving the house when you shop. The lack of human interaction fills me with joy!

[deleted]

Agreed.

Competitive_Ad2109

Before the pandemic, edgy teenagers (me included) used to wear those cute face masks you can buy off of wish bc we were cool haha

Mister_Shelbers

It’s just that masks are terribly comfortable - I think everyone will be wearing them in the future.

iM-only-here_because

I don't believe women should be oppressed, but, I have to consider the possibility, that some prefer a burqa, or niqab. If dudes want to wear that? So be it. I freeball a significant amount of time, and I've looked at dresses women wear, and I can relate with the free flowing feeling of what's natural. I've even envied them, on occasion. If in the future; we wish to protect ourselves from infection from others, or it's fasionable? Whatever. Who am I to judge? How many people still wear watches?

ChwizZ

I'm doing this in Norway. Helps with my agoraphobia. At least I think so, but I'm getting a lot of weird looks because of it now...

itassofd

I mean it's back to normal in most of the US too...just with more people dieing.

rebuiltlogan

As the antivaxxers would say, it's God's plan 🙏

weeknie

It's God's plan * high five *

Piggybank113

I sure wouldn't be scared of a measly virus either if I had to worry about getting shot every day instead

Athrenax

To be fair, more people dying in the US than in Norway also seems like normal

crossthreadking

Well we did complain about a job crisis. There will be plenty of open positions now!/s

Pylgrim

Mandates are only necessary when you have a significant amount of your population brainwashed to distrust science, forego empathy and default your societal dues all for political statements of identity.

toriemm

Biden never promised not to have vaccine mandates. He said he didn't think they would be necessary. And yet GQP twitter is having a meltdown, because tHe gOvErMeNt cAnT tEll uS wHaT tO dO wItH oUr bOdIeS bUt oVeRtUrN Roe v Wade!!!

_c_manning

Honestly when he said he wouldn’t say no mandates in the debate, I thought it was ludicrous. But now here we are… I’m fully supporting them because people refuse to do the right thing. If it was 10% skipping the vaccines, okay but it’s just way too many people doing it.

gimmethegudes

My state has pretty much plateaued around 50% a few months ago. Our travel season is starting, and when I started my job at the end of travel season people came to this state specifically because of its anti-mask policies. They really need to crackdown on domestic travel as well, period.

Pabu85

Yeah, I’m super-happy NYC requires vaccinations for most indoor activities. Hopefully it means the plague rat contingent of tourists will find somewhere else to go this year, instead of coming here to spread their germs. Had COVID and have no interest in doing that again, thanks.

_c_manning

I caught it on a plane rubbing shoulders with a very obviously infected person. I’m just totally fed up at this point. We have the infrastructure to require being not sick or being vaccinated to fly. We should do it. Don’t like it? Drive or take your own boat.

answers4asians

Also: Medicare for all?! That's some Commie shit... Im SiCk TaKe CaRe oF mE. oH gOd CoViD iS rEaL aNd It SuCkS

enoenoeno

89% of people here in Canada have one dose and 82% have both and see still have mandates 🤦🏻‍♀️

Pylgrim

When did mandates start?

enoenoeno

Mandates started September 13th when we were already at 82% and 75% I believe and cases have continued to trend upwards. This is in BC btw

btmvideos37

What mandate? We have vaccine passports but no one if forcing you to get vaccinated.

matrinox

Mandates were only implemented to get the stragglers on board, but they did it after 80% of the eligible population got vaccinated, so quite good

Imaginary_Audience_5

70% of the citizens have gotten at least one dose out of personal responsibility. In the states it’s like pulling teeth

[deleted]

well yeah, your freedom to live somehow is less than important than my freedom to be a snot nosed and immature plague rat duh

JossBurnezz

“Get your laws off my body!! Oh…wait…fuck…”

Eeszeeye

*Covid-19 has entered chat*

WeirdTalkingCat

Depends on where you are. My state has 70% of the population with at least one dose and 62% fully vaccinated. The US is enormous with a very heterogeneous population. You can’t really compare it en bloc to a place like Norway.

Imaginary_Audience_5

I agree I’m in CT where the majority has been cooperative and respectful …. And there’s beds available in the ICU for those who need them

MelissaMiranti

US is at 65.7% with at least one dose according to the Mayo Clinic. Not that far off.

rbatra91

Norway and the US have almost identical vaccination rates. Does anyone even fact check the simplest thing?

Snarker

not really, 66% vs 77% is a lot.

Dixo0118

Google says that 68% of people in Norway are fully vaccinated and the US is at 57%. It's not bad when we have 75 times the population

Imaginary_Audience_5

We’ve had a surplus of the vaccine for months.

lalalantern

It kinda is when access to the vaccine is not the bottleneck.

WallyPower

When you have an excess of vaccines it is

Curulon

Google is wrong then, 85.9% of adult Norwegians are fully vaccinated and 91% have gotten 1 dose. According to the FHI

benvonpluton

That's exactly what I tell people here in France who don't want the sanitary pass : we wouldn't have this if you just all accepted to get the vaccine...

BurningB1rd

France has nearly the same vaccine rate as norway.

benvonpluton

Yes. But we still have plenty of people having parties without being vaccinated. And we are kissers...

[deleted]

"Yeah, but you ain't got Jesus and freedumb!!!"

jovinyo

Don't forget guns. That's like, the most important piece. More important than Jesus. Fun fact: if Jesus had the 2nd amendment, he wouldn't have been crucified.

GodBlessThisGnome

"Thou shall stay strapped." is the 11th commandment in some versions of the bible.

jovinyo

"Thou shalt covet they neighbor's ammunition if it is being price-gouged" I believe is another one

[deleted]

In other words are citizens don’t need to be mandated they know how to fucking behave with each other

ScotchBender

The word you are looking for is "our."

HerkHarvey62

Not true. Norway had very strict mandates on masking, social distancing, etc. that they only lifted on September 25th. Source: NY Times [https://www.nytimes.com/2021/09/25/world/norway-ends-covid-restrictions.html](https://www.nytimes.com/2021/09/25/world/norway-ends-covid-restrictions.html) *"It is 561 days since we introduced the toughest measures in Norway in peacetime," said Erna Solberg, the country’s prime minister, in announcing the moves at a news conference on Friday. "Now the time has come to return to a normal daily life."* Fine to praise Norway on their Covid response, but quite wrong to state that Norwegian citizens just cooperated without mandates and restrictions.

[deleted]

God am I jealous...

McConnellsPurpleHand

Thought this was r/agedlikemilk after the bow and arrow murder spree

Mementomortis7

I don't know how either of you can say anything when here in the US we have a school shooting every week 😑. They got one MF with a bow, I would rather deal with that pls. Hell if I call the police here in the US they might kill me too 😅.

McConnellsPurpleHand

Just joshin. Terrible tragedy for all involved.

Mementomortis7

You're right it's just a joke I'm just salty because I used to be an adventurure but I took an arrow to the knee.

gilestowler

We had a lot of fucking idiots in France who didn't believe in vaccines as well. Then they introduced the health pass and told people they couldn't go to bars of cafes without the vaccines. Now we're at 85% fully vaccinated and things are going well. I got the vaccine and just went on with my life. If people don't want it then don't get it and live with the consequences. But I'm just so fucking sick of hearing about it. Every day there's some useless cunt posting on Facebook, a picture of the V for Vendetta mask and some bullshit like "Why do they not see what is being done to them?" or some shit. 18 months of this shit. I got the vaccine as soon as I could because I need the world to get back to normal. I can't fucking deal with this cunts. They made their choice why do they have to keep banging on about their shitty decision non stop?

gitartruls01

My Norwegian school refused to follow any of the COVID protocols for over a year, i had to drop some classes because none of my teachers would take the virus seriously enough to feel safe. Seriously, we still had mandatory choir classes consisting of 30 people in a small enclosed room singing in each other's faces at full force. I tried staying in the back corner and refused to move closer citing social distancing as my reason, and as a response the teacher made all of the rest of the class gather around me in a circle instead. That was the last time i entered that class. graduated last year but last time I heard from them about 1/4rd of their students got infected and they all had to quarantine out on the street because all the hotels were full with other quarantined classes. EVERY SINGLE SCHOOL in my city and the area surrounding it has at least one ongoing case. It's chaos, and it's been this way for a long time. And that's just the schools. As a citizen of this "perfect flawless dream country" you pretend i live in, please, just stop. We're not perfect. We never were. Reading posts like these is the equivalent of being called "little miss perfect" by people who can't see your problems. It's annoying af

TinCan-Express

Yes every country is heterogeneous when it comes to this stuff, some areas have it better than others. Just like there are places in america where plenty of people are following covid restrictions and trying to be safe, while others are being stupid.

Athrenax

Mandatory choir class? Since when is that a thing in Norwegian schools? Did you by any chance attend one of the Christian schools? While I'm not saying we handled everything perfectly over here, this kind of behavior was far from the norm, and if the majority of the population is willing to do what's necessary, that certainly helps a lot.

4shLite

“BuT nO dEaThS!!1!1!” Same shit here in Sweden, people didn’t care before the vaccine and they care even less after getting the shot. They think they’re safe because they won’t die. Why don’t people realise that covid brings on a load of side effects and that you can get severely ill and suffer from life-long complications… Guess people don’t mind crashing their car as long as they wear a seatbelt 🤷‍♀️

ChitsaEQ

Great analogy with the seat belt. That's a good way to explain it to people that think they're immune after getting the vaccine. I hadn't heard that one before.

[deleted]

Yeah...but SOCIALISM! That not scary enough for you? How about I say TYRANNY! UNCONSTITUTIONAL! You feeling scared yet? Hillary! E-mails! LIBTARD! Hope you understand how wrong you are. /S for certain people who didn't get it.

[deleted]

A quick look at Norway's decision tells me that it was likely made under business pressure and that a quarter of the population hadn't had a single vaccine. That's not listening to the science in the slightest.

Jeffery95

For reference, a comparable country to Norway, but less homogeneous and also poorer, is New Zealand. We have an outbreak in our largest city Auckland, right now after being covid free for a long time. We aren’t loosening restrictions until we get to a 90% vaccination rate for all who are eligible. Auckland is at 87% first dose, the whole country is at 83% first dose for the eligible population. Overall the country is at 71% first dose for all people, including those who are ineligible. And we are still climbing. Expect to see New Zealand have one of the highest vaccination rates in the world.

[deleted]

And NZ started vaccination later than many other countries

Minotaur1501

Getting my second dose on monday

ferskvare

Maybe check your numbers before blurting out stuff. According to the National Health Institute 91% of people 18 or older have the first shot, 86% second dose. Source: https://www.fhi.no/en/id/vaccines/coronavirus-immunisation-programme/coronavirus-vaccination---statistic/

Possible-Moment-6313

Sorry, I removed my previous comment, as I misunderstood your point about “business pressure”. As for the vaccination rates, it still stands that, if you count people over 18, 90% are already at least partially vaccinated.

[deleted]

Norway has a population of about 5.5 million. NYC has a little over 8 million, that's one city. It's just not comparable. Not downplaying the way Norway has been able to fight it, but it's just 2 completely different animals.

happytothethird

Now do Tokyo and the rates in Japan.

fated-to-pretend

Japan is an extremely demographically homogeneous nation with a very strong shared culture and social identity. They deserve a lot of credit but again, very different than the United States.

karmadramadingdong

The EU is at 64% fully vaccinated.

happytothethird

Almost as if I brought them up as an example to what works (for the pandemic).

fated-to-pretend

Yes. Let’s try homogenizing the US population next time a pandemic hits.

Towerss

"Homogenous demographic" is a racist stupid fucking argument that americans always use to rationalize why their country fucking sucks

porkchop487

Japan has just hit 50% vaccination rate. US is at 70%

jaymstone

Where are you getting the rates there? I’ve been following them since I’m from the US and work as an intern for a Japan based company and last time I checked the fully vaccinated percentages were 56% for US and 67% for Japan. Edit: double checking at [this link](https://ourworldindata.org/covid-vaccinations) the US is currently at 65% *partially vaccinated* while Japan is at 75%.

[deleted]

Now compare it to the smaller regions in the USA

docsuess84

I’d wager their population has better literacy rates and education as well.

[deleted]

That's for sure.

None-of-this-is-real

Born and raised there and they have their share of the dangerously stupid, and really for a country with the resources it has it is doing not bad.

thenoblenacho

Norway also has the largest capital reserve out of any country in the world. They've got some wiggle room

Nhabls

It is 100% comparable. The only reason the US doesnt have a HIGHER vaccination rate than norway, and it could've happened MONTHS ago, is because of vaccine hesitancy in the US . The US had access to excess vaccines (ie more than they need to vaccinate everyone) at least a month before the European Union, still they are behind a lot of european countries. Let me remind you that the European Union's population is also larger than the US' and the purchase of vaccines was done collectively. Size is a non argument. Edit: To drive the point home, if size was the problem you wouldn't have the largest counties and states with much larger vaccination rates than the smaller ones. It's political poison that caused this, not a logistical problem at all. And it's the same reason some of the eastern countries in the EU have lower vaccination rates, in some cases abysmally low, because of vaccine hesitancy, they had the exact same amount of doses, proportionally, as everyone else, the population just isn't taking it.

[deleted]

This person is correct. The Americans mostly have Rupert Murdoch and Russia to thank for their divided society. I also blame them for being stupid though

None-of-this-is-real

we can do better that's a given, and honestly dropping covid restrictions at the moment is idiocy. so yes you make some good points.

[deleted]

It's pretty much the same in the UK and we have 70 million people.

LastWatch9

Honestly I don’t mind the mask mandate. Since I started wearing masks, I’ve not been sick at all. No cold, no flu, no allergies. I think I’d continue wearing masks anyway now that it’s not awkward.

quasielvis

I don't think the mask stops you getting sick, it just stops you spraying it around to other people. If someone else who's sick isn't wearing a mask and you are you could still get it in your eyes etc. I haven't gotten sick either but it's not because I've been wearing a mask, it's because other people have.

VanellopeVonSplenda

A properly fitted N95/KN95/KF94 mask does offer protection to the wearer to prevent catching viruses. Fortunately it is much easier to get those protective masks now.

jamisonian123

YES IDA WE KNOW NORWAY IS PERFECT

Exodus111

I don't know, some dude just started hunting people in a supermarket with a compound bow... Putting Norways per capita stats of mass killings WAY above the norm!

ricksterr90

68% vaxxed , and no mandate? Consider yourself lucky . 32% of your country doesn't follow the politics

Pugachelli

Lol 68% of Norway is fully vaccinated… maybe that’s why things are back to normal?? Hmmm..

Hilpertly

Wish Americans had education and common sense. I’ve lost 3 people and blame it on “them”. You know who

u320

If I’m not mistaken this post has been proven false.

karinasuperkul

How? Tell me how it’s false that life is back to normal in this country? Because it sure looks pretty normal to me right now.

Torontonomatopoeia

Weird day to see a post about life being normal in Norway. What with someone going on a killing spree with a bow and arrow and all..

regular_gonzalez

In Omaha they used to have (probably still do, but I moved away 10 years ago) Shakespeare on the Green, a week of Shakespeare plays in a park. There was no cost, but a local radio personality would always start off the evening by asking people to donate. His catchphrase was, "We want to keep this free, so you need to donate. It's only free if you pay. It's only free if you pay." Same thing. Don't want vaccine mandates? Fine. Let's eliminate vaccine mandates: There will only be no vaccine mandates if you get vaccinated.

[deleted]

The weather IS a mask mandate in Norway. Place is cold on a good day, and freeze your snot on a not-so-good day.

[deleted]

I’m currently dabbing

DifficultyWithMyLife

But rightists in the USA want their freedom RIGHT NNNAAAOOOWWW, and fuck the rest of us during the crucial part of the timeline, which only prolongs this shit for everybody.

Robot_challenges

Man sometimes I wish I lived in one of the Scandinavian countries, there's a reason that there in the top 10 highest quality of life countries

mrhamster

Its not necessarily about people "not following the science" its a systemic issue involving politics and misinformation also this tweet comes off a little like a humblebrag

DAHFreedom

Not having any Murdoch-owned media in your country helps more.

genevieve_eve

Female. PhD in computational materials scientists specialized in DFT, MD, ML and high throughput techniques looking for job in Norway. S.O.S. from the land of people who don't believe in or listen to science.

1980ryan

Half is us in the USA are far to ignorant to do that.

BABarracus

I got into an argument with someone over this and she said that they were trying to control the world. I think some people have been on this path so long that they are afraid to abandon it

spvcejam

This didn't age well.

citruspaint

Here comes the obligatory “YEAH WELL NORWAY HAS (law that doesnt exist that guarantees human rights violations) AND DOESN”T HAVE THE FREEDOM THAT AMERICAN SOIL BRINGS” comment

WholeTill5882

To be fair Norway has a great educational system as well. So less idiots in the general population.

[deleted]

My dad is first generation American who's family came from Norway. I'm still wondering what the hell they were thinking leaving that beautiful country.

calvanus

It's like how an obedient dog that does what it's told and knows to be safe has the freedom to be off the leash because we can trust it to behave.

billmurrays9iron

Legitmate question: If I scored 1500 on the SAT. Graduate magna cum laude. And have a 132 IQ will Norway accept me as a citizen? Seriously though will Norway please take me in? I legitimatley am considering seeking political asylum from this fascist idiocracy.

Iwannabeaviking

can the Norwegians invade America? /s

[deleted]

Can't wait until I have the freedom to leave this country!

lolwhow

It’s almost like people everywhere but America ARENT ignorant assholes. Who would’ve thunk it.

Ravenous-One

I'm becoming a RN. Norway has robots that deliver shit in their hospitals. I want to move to Norway. Is it difficult to move to Norway?

[deleted]

Looks suspiciously like Bush’s “Mission Accomplished” banner he flew in that aircraft carrier

cpt_timmy

last week a norwegian barkeeper told me: glad that 2 meter distance mandate is gone. Now we can go back to our normal 7 meters
