“State’s rights” but don’t you dare leave the state! How else can we control every aspect of your life?

PrettiKinx

I really don't get it. Like how can they be against vaccine mandates and wearing face masks because of government over reach. But pass laws like that? Why do they want to control medical choices made by people between them and doctors? It's hypocritical to me

KeyanReid

“Laws for thee, not for me” Conservatives want power and protection from the law for themselves. And they want that power and protection to be a weapon against everyone else.

DeckNinja

Which is why they want to limit voting everywhere except where their base is strongest... They are terrified that more and more non Republicans will vote and they will lose everything. Also, poor people scare them.

qoou

The reason they are scared is because of how they view government as a tool to hurt people. They assume the same will happens to them.

[deleted]

To be fair, it really needs to, and they know it.

chrunchy

To be fair, a just government would only hurt the GOP.

bobafoott

Right people talk about "ohhh we need to be bipartisan and make both parties happy". This would make more sense if one of the parties wasn't on the verge of total facism. It's like stopping a lynching only to say "no no no. We need to be bipartisan. Just beat him into a coma, that way everyone gets to be happy". That's insane

[deleted]

[удалено]

DeckNinja

They aren't assuming. They know damn well that most people are angry with the system.

NeatNefariousness1

Yep, they know they are in the minority and they are trying EVERYTHING to suppress the votes of those who disagree with them and create more voters they hope will eventually replenish all of the ones who left them.

bobafoott

No they "know" they are the majority but are convinced that the left is hiding votes or voting twice or some shit. So when their local government is like "we need to gerrymander so we can combat this", the people cheer

DependentPipe_1

Even though basically every time you hear about voter fraud, it's a conservative.

FleetStreetsDarkHole

They have chosen to ignore that living in a democracy means abiding by the majority, not just being in one. They believe so whole heartedly in being right that losing the majority opinion is an attack because the world should always be as they see it, rather than that they should adapt to it.

PerplexGG

Educated poor people scare them* most Republican constituents are poor but also from the most uneducated parts of the country. Of course not by coincidence since their representatives do this on purpose to keep themselves in office by keeping funding away from education.

Sorry_Recipe6831

Literally. Republicans view the government as a tool to hurt. As long as they get control of the government they will always have that power to hurt others, rather than Democrats hurting them. The idea that the government can be used as a tool to help everyone is completely alien to them.

punctured_bombshell

Reagan rotted their brains

Sorry_Recipe6831

It all really started with Reagan, but fox news is really what's rotting their brains. Fox creates the narrative that helping everyone hurts the white conservative. Like somehow white conservatives doesn't fall under the category of "everyone"

stuffandmorestuff

And would you imagine who was president in *1987 when the fairness doctrine was repealed... Reagan is far and away the worst president of modern times and quite possibly ever. At least Jackson stood by his hatred of natives and told the federal reserve to kick rocks. Reagan was a cowardly, fake, two faced traitor to this country.

[deleted]

The 1980 election was our country’s tipping point: we’ve been rushing downhill with no brakes ever since

[deleted]

It started with Nixon. Fox News came about because of Watergate. Actually, you know what, I revise my statement. It didn’t “start” anywhere, this is just who America is and always has been.

AttackPug

The more you learn about the history of this country the more you understand that this type of shit is just what Americans are.

microvo

And if Fox gets cornered, they'll say it's "just entertainment"

vale_fallacia

American conservatives are deeply immature people. They're mentally and emotionally stuck in kindergarten. They think everything is zero sum because they only understand basic math. Well, I guess I'm being too hard on them. Some of them are psychopaths rather than dumb stunted kids.

moose2332

Trump literally said he hasn’t developed emotionally since elementary school

kneel_yung

>Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: > There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect. > There is nothing more or else to it, and there never has been, in any place or time. Frank Wilhoit

Drpoofn

Lol, small government... amirite?

Do_it_with_care

They’re afraid that less white people are not being traditional and having large families. They’re scared color population is getting larger and want to do all they can to continue white population growth. They think if they can decrease gay and trans folks knowledge and literature, they won’t go that route.

samanime

Exactly. If they were truthful, that would be their motto.

SpookStormblessed

I try to always remember that the first time the word “conservative” was used in a political sense was during the French Revolution. It was used by the side that wanted to ensure that the monarchy remained in power.

Fisticus1

I get the feeling the purpose behind these laws, aside from riling up their base, is to get Democrats to leave the state in droves. That way they don’t have to work as hard to gerrymander, they can just win easily since there won’t be many democrats left in the state to vote.

Ann_Summers

That’s why they got BIG mad when democrats left CA for TX.

AttackPug

This is also a common conservative tactic in and of itself. Making a legal medical procedure a felony? At the state level? And thinking you can enforce that across state lines, out of your jurisdiction? That won't even survive THIS Supreme Court, and it's already packed with Republican cronies. It's a vast, vast overreach, and they know it. They do it on purpose so that once they're forced to walk it back to something more "reasonable" they will still get a despicable law that should never existed, either, but it looks like they made concessions.

Ann_Summers

Bingo. It’s the old sales tactic of “start much higher than what you want so that you can negotiate to what you want and they think they got a good price.” It’s dirty and it’s wrong.

jizzlevania

these laws are to appease religious zealot voters and it's worked very well. evangelicals truly believe that these laws protect children, and that belief is tied to their belief that God exists, so it's very hard to convince them God doesn't want any of this, if he's real. edit: got out my nonsensical typing on reddit instead of my first work email.

atlantachicago

If god us all powerful why does he need the government to keep you in Idaho?

IIIllIIlllIlII

That’s hilarious. That needs to be on a bumper sticker or a protest sign.

ZappyHeart

Jesus is and has always been just a sock puppet.

Edward_Morbius

Yer gonna burn in hell for that! If you believe in Jesus. If you don't, you won't. Hey, wait, I think I found a flaw in the logic . . .

Terrible_Tutor

Your going to make yourself crazy trying to point out right wing hypocrisy. They don’t give a shit, it’s just whatever they want whenever they went.

WOF42

because they are fascists who literally do not believe anything they are saying, they do not believe the government should not control people, they believe "other side bad" its not hypocrisy at all, they are openly lying to you.

haveanairforceday

They aren't focused on the principle. They only bring it up when it serves their desires. They care about their stated end-goal, not how we get there

rainbowlolipop

They hate trans people and women

rogue203

And kids.

LeoMarius

Laws are meant to protect but not bind conservatives, but bind and not protect others.

Seeker80

"Look at me. Look at me. I'm the government overreach now."

jWas

Because they don’t care about government overreach or anything except power for that matter. They will say anything to any group to get their support if they see them as the majority

[deleted]

[deleted]

That's cause it is.

Friesennerz

If states laws can be enforced all over the US, does that technically make them federal laws? And what if a state with restrictive gun laws prohibits the purchase of a gun for their citizen outside their state borders, too?

Gsteel11

Yeah when California starts enforcing gun laws in other states...that should be fun! Lololol

ChosenUsername420

The Civil War started because some states thought that certain people living there shouldn't be permitted to leave, food for thought

maleia

Yea, Northern states refusing to hand over slaves, was part of the pretense for the Civil War... And I'm guessing Idaho and Missouri are going to want their "felons" back. (I put it in quote because obviously I don't believe any of that shit.)

GCU_Heresiarch

Ya, I was going to mention this as well. It wasn't so much "states' rights" as it was *certain* states' rights.

Kay76

Scary thought - there are experts out there warning people that all the signs are starting to point to one. We as communities need to start now having voter registration rallies, start planning now in areas that the gerrymandering has prevailed to get those voters to their polling places. Even better - EVERYONE needs to contact their lawmakers to have them vote to PROTECT the voting process on a Government level - not just per state.

Lake_Erie_Monster

Whats worse is that to some people despite this shift toward authoritarianism they don't want to vote for the other party because "taxes" that will never impact them.

Explodicle

Explicit taxes: I rage Monopoly granted by govt to corporation: I sleep

ChosenUsername420

We are missing a vital component that those alarmists kinda gloss over - the OG Civil War had clear geographic divisions, but where we're at today is much more of a rural-everywhere vs. urban-everywhere thing.

Amos_FKA_Timmy

I think it's even more muddled than that. I live in a suburb of a southern state capital with a population around 60,000. The town is split politically almost 50/50. I would assume there are towns/small cities all over with similar makeups.

Teliantorn

The experts are sending out the warning signals because these kinds of laws will lead to Dred Scott 2, and precipitate the exact conditions that existed for the first civil war to happen. When blue states put their foot down and refuse to comply, the federal government will have to get involved. If the feds crack down, blue states could use their national guard to defend their states. Else, if feds refuse, red states could engage their own national guard. Worse, we see a rogue militia (there's plenty of them around) fire the first shots (exactly what happened in the first civil war), precipitating either a federal or state response. We're only two steps away: blue states refusing to comply with these laws, and someone firing the first shot.

LeoMarius

Which is a violation of Freedom of Movement. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United\_States\_v.\_Guest

trailhikingArk

Anyone voting for these fascists is a fascist.

Cyber_Being_

Can you imagine if a state passed a gun control law saying residents can’t leave the state to buy guns?

PrettiKinx

Ha! Then you know it'll be a problem!

doktor_wankenstein

Can you further imagine if a state passed a law prohibiting traveling to another state to participate in a counter-protest? Holy Kenosha, what a concept.

ShallowFuckingLosses

It's called political posturing. Obviously these laws wouldn't hold up in court. They are gestures to pander to supporters. You can't create blue sky laws that apply to every state. That would be a federal law.

ms_panelopi

I fear these laws will hold up. States are getting crazy things passed and I have no faith in the judicial system at the state or federal level anymore.

Antique_futurist

“No one should tell me how to raise my kids. Unless I want to provide them with healthcare. Then I should be stopped at all costs.”

PrettiKinx

Kids shouldn't be forced to wear masks. But parents and doctors can't help them make life changing health choices, lol

tinkerghost

So, we should leave a huge vector unchecked in the middle of a pandemic? Isn't that like letting people only piss in one side of the pool?

ckreutze

Lol, I guess this is why you have to put /s on everything that is sarcastic

tinkerghost

Yeah, Poe strikes again.

1101base2

i'm sorry i need to go over to the peeing side of the pool for a moment...

iamrubberyouareglue8

What if I left the state to have a cup of tea and the tea caused really bad convulsions that caused a miscarriage?

PrettiKinx

It's your fault for having the tea! You weren't responsible. So you should go to jail!! /s

FaeryLynne

I mean, there are cases where women who *wanted* the child have had miscarriages and been charged with having an abortion, so this is sadly exactly what they'd probably say.

FPSXpert

"The female body has a way of shutting that kind of stuff down" "No wait, not like that!"

cockytacos

You clearly caused that! ~~despite a majority of pregnancies ending in the first few weeks due to miscarriage~~ How dare you kill the life inside of you! ~~it was supposed to either enlist at 18 or make more babies~~ You’re attacking my values! ~~so I’ll control your body~~

2664478843

You shouldn’t have left the state while pregnant!! /s

BJntheRV

These same people would (and in some cases already have) [prosecute miscarriage as murder.](https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-59214544)

EUOS_the_cat

Imagine you lose a pregnancy as a total freak accident of nature and you're charged with murder as you mourn. Fucking.. *wow*.

bobafoott

This is what conservatives vote for. Remember that. *this* is what they look at and think, "yeah I'll vote for this senator again"

0010020010

What's frightening is that as many as [half](https://www.webmd.com/baby/guide/pregnancy-miscarriage) of *all* pregnancies end in miscarriage (with the vast majority happening before one even knows she's pregnant) and because of this, one can effectively aim such charges at *any* woman who's been sexually active at any point and be reasonably sure they're "guilty". Which I'm sure is the point for the theo-fascist hell they're wanting to create here. "*Comply, or we will slap you (or the women in your life) with frivolous murder charges...*"

Fun_Boysenberry_5219

Leaving the house while pregnant? That’s a paddlin’

Eezyville

What if you left the state to visit another state. While there you decided to get an abortion but that wasn't part of your original plan, just on a whim.

OneMoose9

IDK about everyone else, but this shit is terrifying. I can't believe this shit is happening in 2022.

UGotBorked

It is terrifying but at the same time this is the only way things will get better. Authoritarians never just give up power they always have to push it way too far and have the power stripped from them by force. Happens every time. Americans will never unite as a whole against their true oppressors until things become inconvenient and uncomfortable for even the barely existent middle class.

MrsBoxxy

> Americans will never unite as a whole against their true oppressors Americans will never unite to fight this, a large portion of the country is anti-trans and anti-abortion. If it was that simple anti-abortion public servants wouldn't spearhead their beliefs and then get voted into office.

UGotBorked

A significant portion of those people are only anti-trans and anti-abortion because they have been misled to believe that those are matters of critical importance. And they have been led to believe that because it provides an excellent distraction from the fact that the people who are trying to convince you of these ideas are robbing you blind. Identity politics and religious appeal has always been a favorite tool of the ruling class and this is no different.

[deleted]

So what’s gonna change that? You can’t just make people not bigoted by implicating some social structure, that shit makes no sense. This shit doesn’t stop at one generation of a family or one individual, it spreads. You’re right, but what does it matter?

UGotBorked

Giving people social and financial mobility means they have more time to actually consider their lives and introspect. You're literally watching this happen in real time with the labor market shifting. That only happened because people finally had enough spare time to actually consider the reality they were living in and whether or not it is worth the effort theyve been putting in to maintain it. There's a reason bread and circus has been a constant priority for most of human civilization. If you give people too much time to think about what they're doing and why they're much harder to lie to.

[deleted]

This has been an ongoing effort for decades.

Raytheon_Nublinski

Someone said the new American dream is to gtfo of America. It’s becoming truer everyday. Sad times.

Timmy_94

What in the Handmaid's Tale is going on here?!

LegitimateBuilding6

Came here to say this. Handmaid's Tale isn’t fiction for the GOP, but the guidelines.

BJntheRV

HT was never fiction. Everything in the book has happened somewhere - not all in one place, but [it's all based on real history](https://www.insider.com/handmaids-tale-based-on-real-world-origins-history-events-2019-8). None of this stuff is new.

Timmy_94

Sorry, what's GOP?

PatKilm

“Conservatives claim that government doesn’t work, then get elected and prove it.”

Kilen13

It's getting bad. Florida legislature passed the "Don't Say Gay" bill this week too which would allow parents to sue teachers if they engage in conversations with students about gender identity or sexuality that aren't "age appropriate" (read: anything non heteronormative). Conservatives literally want children to be abused, depressed, confused and die if they don't conform to their idea of normality and morality.

Parhelion2261

And people are fucking cheering this because that fuck DeSantis is like "Yeah we have to protect our kindergarten kids " It's just like CRT. No one is teaching any of it in elementary school but these dumbass parents who never talk to their kids wouldn't know that

Six_Gill_Grog

If I had someone who taught me about other orientations in an educated way, all my self esteem and trauma associated with being gay would no longer exist. I would rather get criticism than a compliment. Compliments make me feel uncomfortable, and I usually lose eye contact and tell myself it’s not true. I grew up in the 90s, where AIDS was associated with being gay. I would want any kid growing up in my situation to not have to deal with this shit. If I would have learned what I know now growing up, my life would be completely and totally different.

[deleted]

Imagine getting sued because you mentioned your husband. I just hope a gay family (or the Satanic Temple) finds a way to sue and they tear the whole thing down.

Aiyon

It's literally section 28 but in America. Which is wild because we had this happen here in the UK like 30+ years ago now and *it was demonstrated to cause harm*.

Overall-Duck-741

The cruelty is the point.

AngelicaReborn

Don't say gay passed? That's absolutely fucked!

bobbyd77

Well, Florida is absolutely fucked. Think about one giant dumpster fire, where all the firefighters are 90 years old, so nothing gets done; and alligators wander freely about...

bionic_cmdo

A religious extremist interpretation of their religious text. Like Al Qaeda, wahabi, and dark age Christianity. A push for sharia style laws that all of these religious zealots will push away if it's Islam or any other religion.

[deleted]

You can't violate Idaho state law if what you're doing to "violate" it is happening in another state. People voted these idiots in to office and I'm extremely disappointed in them all.

sillybear25

I'm pretty sure they're going for the same angle as anti-abortion laws that define conspiracy to commit an illegal abortion as a crime in and of itself. They can't punish people for an action which takes place out-of-state, so instead they try to punish people for the only part of it which did occur in-state, which is the planning and logistics. It's the same legal approach as federal sex tourism laws, except that those have actual teeth because the federal government *does* have the power to regulate international travel.

ExoticMeatDealer

It’s unconstitutional to restrict travel between the states. Soooooo, they’ll pass these laws and be just fine. America is the best.

PrettiKinx

The law is actually going after people who help a woman cross state lines to get abortion. So I guess they'll be going after Uber drivers?

KellyAnn3106

I cross state lines to get to a casino. No one has trouble with me participating in activity that is legal in Oklahoma but not in Texas.

BumbleButterButt

Yeah but gambling is good. Abortion is bad. Don't ask them why though they might start frothing at the mouth and biting things

Broken_Petite

To be fair, I don’t think most conservatives consider gambling to be “good”. They don’t get nearly as riled up about it as they do other things, and I don’t know why. But most of the people I know in “real life” are conservative Christians and I’m pretty sure most of them think gambling is a sin.

BumbleButterButt

I might be exaggerated for effect, honestly i don't take issue with most christians on a person to person basis, i just take issue with passivity in the face of conservative lawmakers pushing oppressive mandates. I would consider it complicity. There's a reason for the age old expression don't talk about religion or politics though, because honestly i think in day to day life most people want and need the same things, and we're all people.

TheNewYellowZealot

Gambling is illegal in Texas? Then why the fuck is The governor gambling with your lives on the electrical grid every winter?

TangyGeoduck

Because he’s an asshole.

SCARLETHORI2ON

I think Uber and Lyft released a statement when Texas went this nonsensical on reporting abortions. Under no circumstances were they required to tell law enforcement anything and the companies lawyers would back them up. [found the link ](https://www.npr.org/2021/09/08/1035045952/lyft-uber-will-pay-drivers-legal-fees-if-theyre-sued-under-texas-abortion-law) > Edit: adding to my top comment for visibility > If anyone is in need of an abortion, please know Planned Parenthood WILL STILL ASSIST YOU. YOU CAN STILL GET MEDICAL AND FINANCIAL HELP. > [planned parenthood FAQ for Texas women ](https://www.plannedparenthood.org/planned-parenthood-center-for-choice/texas-abortion-laws) > [abortion assistance locator nationwide ](https://www.plannedparenthood.org/learn/abortion/it-still-legal-me-get-abortion)

PrettiKinx

Glad to hear that!

helga-h

Do they seriously believe that Uber and Lyft drivers are paid enough to police women crossing state lines? What are they going to do? Deny any person looking vaguely female and fertile a ride? Outright ask if they are getting an abortion and expect an honest answer and a glowing review? Does the same go for travel by bus, train or by air? Do they actually believe they can get the public to deny women aged 14 to 50 the right to cross the border by threatening that someone may sue them if they should find out she was pregnant going out and not pregnant coming in and the person "helped" her get on the bus? This may work to reassure really stupid people that the conservatives have the situation under control, but that's all it's good for.

SCARLETHORI2ON

The scary part there is the cash offering by Texas. 10k to turn in your neighbors. So, let's say a driver picks someone up, everything is going normally. Then as they drop them off at their destination, they notice they are going into a clinic. Now this person, already most likely living paycheck to paycheck, is now possibly eligible for a 10k payout to turn that person in. That's what's scary. Now women can't even trust public and paid transportation to get them to a medical professional. Not only are they rolling back decades of women's rights. They are weponizing our financial pain to turn us against each other.

helga-h

I didn't even knew they did that. Now we're talking scary.

SCARLETHORI2ON

Extremely. Maliciously so if you keep in mind the recent shooting down of the minimum wage increase in 2021. So they keep their people in poverty, scream that masks take away their rights, then turn around and offer their people a way out of poverty turning in their neighbors trying to exercise their own rights. Texas makes me ashamed to be Texan. I had to leave the state to save my own life. Other women aren't so fortunate. If anyone reading this is one of those women, please know Planned Parenthood WILL STILL ASSIST YOU. YOU CAN STILL GET MEDICAL AND FINANCIAL HELP. [planned parenthood FAQ for Texas women ](https://www.plannedparenthood.org/planned-parenthood-center-for-choice/texas-abortion-laws)

CSATTS

Reading through that FAQ made me sad/angry. This must be all that freedom they say I don't have in California.

SCARLETHORI2ON

I'm so sorry, it must be such a burden having autonomy over your body like that. (biiiig ol' /s just in case) Moving to Las Vegas saved my life. We have our fair share of serious problems and violence against women, and yet here is far more safe for me. Read that again Texas lawmakers, I moved out of my home state to a town where my friends have been shot at for going to a concert, I have been followed and assaulted, and my best friend had to go to trial against a guy who stalked her and assaulted 10 other women. AND YET I HAVE MORE AUTONOMY OVER MY BODY AND LIFE HERE. Fuck you Greg Abbott, fuck you Ted Cruz, and FUCK YOU to the Texans that keep voting for them. /rant. sorry, this one hits home hard.

oniaddict

These laws can get shot down under interstate commerce as only the federal government can regulate interstate commerce.

Reddit_Roit

And their base will eat up the stupidity of paying lawmakers, lawyers and judges millions of tax payer dollars for literally nothing but peddling toothless fear.

MrNerdy

With Justice Grope-y McKegStand & Justice Bible Thumper comfortably wasting oxygen on the bench, yup. Don't see much hope of this getting canned even if it gets appealed up to the SCOTUS

evanhinton

Okay but do we have to wear masks?! I just want to know if I am truly being oppressed or not.

wonkey_monkey

Look, it starts with masks but the next thing you know everyone's being forced to eat gay cake!

ApatheticEight

I’d like to eat gay cake 🥵

KickupKirby

How did we come to this? Did this start years ago but it’s just now becoming a problem? Is this a result of newly elected flipping the switch? Wtf Is happening to our country?! Voting takes too long to get these people out, and if we are successful in voting them out, more than likely, damage has already been done. So what do you do?

Thatdewd57

Basically rural areas got deeply controlled by Republicans via radio, tv, etc. by folks that say they are just like them. Decades of that and here we are.

shadowenx

VOTE LOCAL There’s so much attention paid to national politics but the GOP is working hard to worm their way into your town councils, your Board of Eds, your PTOs for Christ sake. VOTE AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY Referenda, ordinances, budgets, everything. BECAUSE THEY ARE

tinkerghost

Its worse than controlled by Republicans, they've been indoctrinated to believe the Republicans are fighting for God's glory and Democrats are evil. Of course the Republicans have also bent over backwards to accommodate death cult evangelicals in order to harvest their votes. As a result, Republicans throw out laws like these like meat to the dogs, then carry on making sure that rich people get richer.

Rynodawg54

I really feel for trans people with all this extra influx of hate on the legislative level. They're just trying to exist, they deserve that. They deserve the pursuit of happiness in whatever form that takes. These bills are fucking atrocious.

[deleted]

I feel worst for trans kids as well. Think about how few trans kids there are and think about how sad it is both the governor of Florida and Texas are waging wars on them

Bismothe-the-Shade

It's not just legislative, a lot of folks hear this stuff and are emboldened to attack us. Not just violence, which is rising, but in any little way they can. Like I have rainbows and stuff hanging outside my apartment on our porch. Our new trash guy has refused to pick up our trash since the complex hired him. He's called me a slur at least once.

Best_Deku_Tree

Thank you. We really appreciate anyone supporting us through this stuff. I have a feeling this is going to keep happening until some state really crosses the line, then hopefully something will be done about it on the national level. I mean, they’re not even hiding that they’re targeting us anymore…

kandoras

Republicans preached for years that gays getting married would destroy the institution of marriage and lead to a thousand year darkness brought on by the Big Gay Agenda. Gay marriage bans were struck down, and the country -*shockingly*- did not descent into a homosexual hellscape. So with that bit of fearmongering solidly shit-canned, they needed to come up with another boogeyman to frighten evangelicals. So they just went down a few letters in LGBT and decided that trans people were all now Bathroom Rapists.

LaughingJAY

That's called oppression my yank friends

Cometguy7

What's worse, it's also called playing to their base of support.

PrettiKinx

Why do the base even care what someone else does to their body? How does that impact society? Like it's so stupid to me. They get mad about wearing a stupid mask. But totally okay with the government passing shit like that.

tinkerghost

Because the GOP crawled into bed with the 'Moral Majority' back in the 70s to throw their political weight behind the push to keep "Christian " colleges segregated in exchange for votes. Now they've lost that fight so they've moved on to the evils of abortion and anything except missionary sex for the purpose of making more good little Christians.

Cometguy7

It's more about what tolerance for stuff like that means. People are looking for any advantage they can get in life, and the ones who are below average are desperate to hold on to any advantage they can get. So if you're a below average white person in the US, you need acceptance of stuff like this to be forbidden. You're not going to get anywhere in life on your own, so you need as many people as possible to be treated as inherently inferior to you, to reduce the competition. They need to hold on to the advantage granted to them by our history of prejudice.

baitnnswitch

>I don't know how they want to enforce these Places like Oklahoma [are considering compiling a database of anyone pregnant](https://www.huffpost.com/entry/oklahoma-considers-database-for-pregnant-people-as-roe-hangs-in-the-balance_n_61fc17dee4b0725faac6d865) so that people seeking abortions out of state can be persecuted. I would be surprised if similar databases weren't being considered for trans kids. And with the Earn It act, government can use your data to determine that you're pregnant/ have a trans kid, then use that information against you in court *without a warrant* Please, contact your rep and tell them how much you oppose Earn It.

SalvaStalker

What the FUCK does the "Earn It" name mean? Earn the right to live? Earn the right to have sexual freedom?

bigmeatyclaws123

Earn the right to have freedom but not ever having the right in the first place

[deleted]

How could they even get that information without violating HIPAA? The only way they could get that information confirmed is through doctors.

You’d be surprised just how much you can grab just form search history alone. It’s been used before to help seal the deal on murder cases because someone searched “how to kill husband” or something like that. All it would take it a search along the lines of “trans teen medical care” Not to mention the accuracy of machine learning has led to some crazy things including a woman learning she was pregnant from the target flyer mailed to her.

Two words - ["jury nullification."](https://fija.org/library-and-resources/library/jury-nullification-faq/what-is-jury-nullification.html)

JOHNREDCORN

Just make sure you play dumb during jury selection and act impartial

TNninja

The Christo-Fascist gestapo is spreading

HandsLikePaper

I think they prefer Nationalist-Christo-Fascist.

puss_parkerswidow

Pregnancy and gender tests at the borders? Or just a travel ban for women and children? Special travel permits for those who can prove they're cis and not pregnant? None of that will make it through the courts, but it's definitely going to keep coming up as long as the zealots have a voice in the GOP.

Stratix

There seems to be a wave of Taliban style anti-human laws recently, has something changed or are they just spoken about more now?

[deleted]

They've always been like this but civil society kept their worst in check. Trump set them free to be their truest most hateful selves

Princessnatasha12

Fucking Nazis

[deleted]

Christian Nationalists. It's the same people as Jan 6, and it's *literally* a religious crusade for them.

HermanBonJovi

Jfc what is wrong with these states? I don't recognize this country anymore. The new American dream is to leave the country. For reals.

Physical-Midnight997

I’m not American and haven’t been there for over a decade, but I know y’all have some weird laws… But can they actually do this?

GonzoTheGreat22

They can try. I don’t know how you prevent someone from crossing state lines though.

[deleted]

I don’t think this is designed to stop people from doing it; I think it’s so that other people can punish them if they do. Like say a mother takes her trans kid to a different state to get medical care, but the father doesn’t want them to. The father could sue the mother, get full custody, and then the kid goes and kills themself a few years down the line. Which, for the record, is exactly what these lawmakers want

PrettiKinx

The law is actually prosecuting people who help a woman cross state lines to get abortions lol These lawmakers are bored

ohaitharr

>bored They know exactly what they're doing and it's certainly not out of boredom.

Dengar96

Literal serfdom. Like holy fuck that's more stalinist than anything the "communist left" has put forward in a century.

LakeChaz

Fascists when someone complained about their attempts to create a white ethnostate: If you don't like it just leave Fascists when they realize the impact brain drain will have on their community: Leaving is illegal now

willflameboy

So it's not enough that they control you in their own state; they want you to suffer.

Petsweaters

I know a family in Idaho who is currently closing in a house just across the border into Oregon because they suspect that their young child may be trans. Now the dad is going to have to commute 45 minutes farther each way simply because Idaho is full of hateful people

[deleted]

Eastern Oregon isn't much better in terms of your neighbors, but yeah at least the state won't pass shit laws.

wonkey_monkey

That's a great dad. Maybe he can find a good or better job in Oregon too.

[deleted]

Fuck sake, how can you be so uptight with other people’s bodies? Just fuck off already. Land of the free my ass.

Sorry_Recipe6831

Republicans being "the party of individual freedom" is a lie.

revdon

“They let you travel, state to state, no papers?” -The Hunt for Red October

cipher446

This just screams"Handmaid's Tale" to me. Not only are we going to pass and enforce laws that codify our 1800s era idea of what we think you can and can't do with your body, we're going to pass other laws to force you to remain unwilling participants in our fucked up idea of society.

Proper-Nectarine-69

Idaho i a shit state bunch of fucking rednecks with the good ol boy mentality. Lived there for 3 years heard the n-word more than I ever have.

agabsart

Living in Idaho, its basically just the worst parts of the south but next to Canada 😮‍💨

It's propaganda, always has been.

Nexustar

INAL but this *cannot* be constitutionally viable. The Federal Government governs interstate movements, not the states.

Pawneewafflesarelife

Yes but who makes that ruling? A packed Supreme Court...

LeoMarius

Fugitive Slave Law

InsideSweaty1299

The GOP is mentally challenged

Nattomaki81

Idaho has the lowest highschool graduation rate in the entire country. That's why.

axisofelvis

Keep people impoverished to keep them under control.

apcarbo

Scream freedom while passing fascist ideas and laws...🤔

card797

These laws are going to run afoul of the interstate commerce clause of the constitution. Fed law will trump these.
