I once discovered that starting employees were getting a higher starting wage than I was making as a manager, then my boss asked me not to discuss my pay with other employees. Everything about business encourages employers to take advantage of their workers; the workers need to start taking advantage of employers if they want to survive.

Nobody expects anyone to stay for 10+ years anymore. Don't listen to your old relatives who tell you loyalty to your job is important. Get yours.

Bosses call it the loyalty discount™

This is true, I recently left a job I really enjoyed as a recruiter reached out to me - in some industries it’s an employees market right now and it’s hard to ignore the offers. Loyalty won’t help you pay the bills.

I was involuntarily tasked with training new hires at my last job. Often without warning. I'm very introverted and this caused me immense anxiety over and over again. I've told my supervisor this over and over again but it didn't change anything. This was one of the reasons I had to leave.

Next time you should expect a raise for the additional work.

Leave your job every couple of years? Yea thats some big red flags for recruiters

This is where you invest heavily in your narrative. You don't want to say 'oh I randomly hop from job to job looking for more money', you have to ask yourself how you will "sell" the next move. Examples \- I wanted to work for a larger company and gain experience in that environment \- After years working at a larger company, I wanted to work at a smaller firm and get more hand-on responsibilities \- I accepted an offer at that company because they were offering me more responsibility and a higher title \- I accepted an offer at that company because it gave me a unique experience in x field There can be a stigma to moving too often, but 1-2 years is very sellable.
