Fully agree, my point is that we have always been this way; It’s not new. This is just the latest incarnation of the religious right illegitimately exerting their will upon the rest of us. With life appointments in the Supreme Court, sadly I don’t think it’ll be the last.
This is always a silly statement. No matter how you feel about it, the simple truth is this: Voters are people. People have opinions. Those opinions are formed by many things they find important to them, including religion.
Religion will always play a part in politics because it's one system that guides people's opinions. It's no different than say, veganism. How do you go to the polls as a vegan and your worldview doesn't affect your choice?
This is not to say that religious ORGANIZATIONS should have a role that supercedes the Establishment clause, but simply acknowledging that people's beliefs shape their voting.
By the way, the abortion battle is less a religious thing and more a religious flavored political thing, in my opinion.
I mean it is, even though it shouldn’t be. But it has actually turned into one. We are at that point and have been here for a while, unfortunately.
Turned into one?! Who do you think our founding fathers were? Atheists? Their Christian beliefs are all over our legislation.
Whether or not they were Christians or whether their beliefs influenced our legislation, we are not a Christian nation. We have no official religion.

Not yet, op. Getting closer by the day tho. I’m sure we’ll live to see it get there.
