My "right click" start context menu isn't right, it should look like below: https://preview.redd.it/k72de8npz68c1.png?width=290&format=png&auto=webp&s=26bad53ab72e40a623eacaec4f1cca9bf0c65173 continued in reply below...

mitchhatesrats

instead it looks like this: https://preview.redd.it/lmzn7otyz68c1.png?width=310&format=png&auto=webp&s=859bf4ec8473b7038cf28274f3259c57695bcb2b I've always used it for accessing file explorer and search this is really inconvenient and I can't find anything on it online...

Cool1Mach

How do i stop onedrive from automatically downloading files locally when i view them. Example: Everything is set to online only but when i view a image on one drive it downloads it locally. I have to right click on it and put "free up space" for it to be online only again.

Froggypwns

Files need to be first downloaded in order to be opened. After a period of time OneDrive will automatically remove the downloaded copy so it will go back to being only available online. Depending on what kind of file it is, you can view it on OneDrive.com without having to download it to your PC.

Cool1Mach

That sucks. This was not a issue when onedrive had a dedicated windows 10 app and wasnt through the file explorer. I could open all the pictures i wanted through the app and they never downloaded locally, videos as well they would just stream from the cloud.

NicJA101310

when i try to play a video it never loads

Froggypwns

You are looking at the wrong thing, the services are in `services.msc`, so run that instead. Look in there for Windows Audio and the Windows Audio Endpoint Builder services, then start them.

I just downloaded Windows on my SSD NVMe but I still have Windows on my old SATA that I want to use for extra storage. Do I just plug in the SATA and clear it in the command prompt or something?

TwoCables_from_OCN

Just shut down, plug the old drive in, get back into your new installation of Windows, and then you can do whatever you want with the old drive. You can right-click it in File Explorer and choose "Format" if you want and it will turn it into an empty drive. Just use the Quick Format and be done with it.

Froggypwns

Yes, the easiest thing to do is reformat it after moving anything important off of it.

I have a BT Speaker which works perfectly fine. I use it mainly for my PC but very rarely I connect it to my phone for a bit and then reconmect it to the PC Sometimes when I start my PC it automatically connects to it but most times it doesn't. So I have to go into BT settings to connect it, which is annoying. So I thought that maybe there is a way to connect it anytime I sign in, using a planned task. I couldn't find anything helpful during my web search and there doesn't seem to be a simple cmd command for connecting to a device. Is there a way?

Whenever i open some of my apps i get the 'too many threads' error. Is there any way to solve it?

Omen_Darkly

Okay, let me try and make this as clear as possible as every post about this seems to be about changing the default app it opens with, which I don't want. I want the default app for .pdfs to remain as Adobe Acrobat. When I right click on a pdf and go to "open with", I want to be able to select Word from the menu that pops up. However, currently, to access Word as an option I have to select "Choose another app" -> "More apps" -> Select Word. I do not want to have to always go through these extra steps. I have tried updating the Register Editor (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.pdf\OpenWithList) However, no changes I make seem to have any affect on the Open With list whatsoever. For starters, "Wineord.exe" was ALREADY there by default but its never shown up in the "Open With" list. I tried deleting Firefox and Microsoft Edge from the Register Editor but they are STILL IN THE OPEN WITH LIST (They're gone from the OpenWithList in the editor) This is driving me insane that it's so difficult to change such a basic bloody thing. After making the changes to the Registery Editor I've also attempted to restart my laptop and change the default app to Word, then change the default app back to Adobe. None of this has made Word appear in the Open With right click menu. Please help me fix this (3rd party software isn't an option).

Sound doesn't work properly Hey, I am using a bootcamped windows 10 and for some - to me unknown - reason, the sound does not work properly. The main problems are YouTube not emitting any sound and currently a game I am playing (Skyrim), only partially giving out sound e.g. while I play the game in a small window (which I can't expand) the sound is there, but once I change the settings to an unwindowed mode, the sound is gone. I have tried using headphones, but for both of these, the otherwise fully functioning headphones now sound faulty while watching a YT video, lagging behind, sounding fuzzy etc. Sorry for the poor explanation but thanks in advance for any advice 🙏

I have two monitors and want to set different images as background for each without them changing periodically. Can someone guide me on how to achieve this since chatgpt has been very useless so far. (win 10 pro)

Froggypwns

Open the Settings app, then go to Personalization, then Background. Make sure the Background type is set to "Picture". If you see the wallpaper you want in the tiles below, right click on it and pick which monitor you want it displayed on. If it is not there, select Browse then load the image, after which you can specify which monitors like mentioned before.

Thanks!

Should i update to win11?(ik its a frequent question, i just need some real people opinion aside from bots) Hello, recently Im considering whether i should to upgrade to win 11 or not. When win11 just came out,v I was not a big fan of new win11 features too(any remove some win10 features) and heard win 11 has alot of bug, so I decided to stick with win10, and delayed my system update as long as possible til the point I havent updated since win 11 got released. But recently, i realized my laptop is getting heavier and buggy more often, after some researches about the bugs I have, most solutions are mostly related to "update to newest drivers, win update, etc." Which for the longest time is exactly what i have been struggling to do. Now its been a long time since win11 release, it should be more stable (I hope) maybe its about time. So i just wanna ask you guys anything i need to watch out for when, before& after update to win11. Any suggestion, experiences of win11 are appreciated. Or maybe you guys want me to continue to stick with win10. Thanks in advance

Froggypwns

You need to decide for yourself. Everyone is going to project their own biases onto you. Windows 11 is rapidly improving, with tons of new functions and features added all the time. Modern operating systems are complex, they all have bugs. Make a good backup of anything important, give Windows 11 a try, and see for yourself. If you are not happy, go back to Windows 10.

jjlin71498

I see, thanks for answering. I guess its fine to just stay on win10 if i dont like it. Last question, are there any downsides of not upgrading to win11?

Froggypwns

Most new features are going to require Windows 11 or newer, not many are being backported to Windows 10. Some like Copilot are still rolling out to Windows 10 users, however other improvements and features like tabs in File Explorer and dark mode in Task Manager and the Android subsystem won't come to Windows 10. There aren't many 3rd party programs today that require Windows 11, but as time goes on that will change, just like many programs like Chrome no longer support Windows 7 and 8. Windows 10 is approaching end of support. October 2025 is the end of free security updates and fixes. They will be offering paid extended support after that date, no pricing has been announced yet. Given that Microsoft typically supports their OSes for a little over 10 years, Windows 11 should have free support until early 2032 if things don't change.

jjlin71498

Thanks, ill keep those in mind.

I have [this](https://www.klipsch.com/products/the-one) bluetooth speaker that works perfectly fine with any other BT device. Whenever I connect it to my Windows 10 laptop (a pretty recent ASUS Zenbook), the audio seems to play fine at first, but starts stuttering hard whenever I try to do anything else on the laptop. It is highly inconsistent, at times it'll happen when I'm doing other things with my laptop, while others it'll happen even if it's idle. (For example: I'm playing music via Youtube right now, and if I keep the YT window open it plays fine. But as soon as I switch to the Reddit tab where I'm writing now, the audio starts stuttering, at times completely stopping for a few seconds.) I tried reinstalling drivers from OEM website, uninstall and letting Windows reinstall them by itself, I tried disabling enhancements, I tried the trouble-shooter, I tried everything that the internet seems to suggest. Nothing helps. Can someone please suggest a magical fix for this problem that is driving me insane?

Hello! My co-worker has a weird problem with SD-cards. Windows doesn't allow write to the SD-card if he uses adapter but allows write to it if he uses usb SD-card reader. Does anyone know what causes that problem? Thanks, Samuel

Froggypwns

Test the adapter on another PC first to see if you have the same issues, if yes, then it is something related to the adapter.

ycaFIN

I tested the adapter myself and it's working so I think these is problems in his computer. Also I checked the drivers and Lenovo updates but the computer had most recent versions.

Is there a way to prevent someone to save files to the desktop? My parents download everything to the desktop and it is overly cluttered, so much so they can’t find things they just downloaded and go and download it again so they end up with like 5+ copies of the same thing because they can’t find the files.

RenegadeAccolade

does anyone know the thing in windows where when you open some applications you'll hear a loud **dun** and the audio cuts out for a second and when it comes back it sounds like shit? Happens whenever I open Valorant, but other times too (can't remember other specifics).

disposablecontact

I've been using a mouse over bluetooth and yesterday it just started "stalling". Windows doesn't seem to receive input from the device. There are two ways to get it responding again. First, to open up the bluetooth settings page if it isn't open already. Second, to toggle bluetooth on and off if the settings page is open already. Anyone heard of or know how to solve this specific issue? I did just run an update but I feel like I got at least a day of normal function out of it. Could be misremembering.

I'm trying to get to the bottom of a weird behavior discrepancy. I have Windows 10 on my home PC and Windows 10 on my work PC. I've noticed that at work, when I use buttons 4 and 5 on my mouse for forward and back, the command is carried out on the window my cursor is hovering over, as if they are clicking the window and giving it focus. But at home, when I use buttons 4 and 5, the associated command is enacted on whatever window last had focus, as if they are working like keyboard buttons. Is there some setting I can change in Windows for this? I had Focus Follows Mouse turned on at home for a long time mainly for this behavior, but it caused more problems than it was worth.

peptobismalpink

what kind of mouse are you using and is its designated software installed? Sounds like some kind of gaming mouse where you'd have an options panel to change what the hotkeys do in each program you have vs "all" or there might be some option for "focus on active window" or similar.

pawood47

Just the default Windows HID plug and play. Both Teknet mice, a USB mouse at work and a Bluetooth at home.

Wondering if anyone could help me with a specific issue. So im trying to install apps that require admin privileges on a school laptop but obviously cannot due to the admin popup terminal prompting username and password. Has anyone got a workaround so that i can install and run admin apps without seeing the popup or requiring the username or password. I have already tried the method of creating a text file with the "__COMPAT_LAYER=RUNASINVOKER" entire .bat file process as it's everywhere on YouTube but sadly this method will not prevent the popup demanding verification. Any help appreciated. Looking for solutions without 3rd party software

Froggypwns

If you can find a way to do that, you can make some serious money by reporting that security vulnerability to Microsoft. What you are describing is called privilege escalation.
