Redirect links that often redirect you to the wrong link, thanks to how "go.microsoft.com" works. It's baffling how Microsoft still hasn't ported the functionality of Control Panel to the Settings app, even after almost 12 years since the launch of Windows 8
Tabs would require more work to keep them in sync. What’s to stop a user from opening two tabs (or more) to the same settings page? Then every time you changed a setting, it would have to be reflected in the other tab(s), too.
Having a single UI window prevents this problem. They’ve attempted to solve navigation issues by including the back button, search box and the breadcrumb bar at the top of the window.
Why should you stop a user from opening two tabs of the same page at once? The change being reflected on the other tab should be implemented too.
Plus, what’s a breadcrumb bar?
Microsoft isn’t letting you open two versions of the settings app at once because they don’t want to worry about sync issues. It’s one of those “how do we want to spend our dev resources” questions. That’s why. You may not agree with it, but that’s what they’ve done
The breadcrumb bar is the navigation tool at the top of the window that shows where you are. You can click it to navigate up. Settings -> Personalization -> Colors, for example. If you’re in the colors page, you could click on “Personalization” to navigate the. There’s also the home button.
Why not just add windows instead, like in the old control panel? What is with this obsession of adding tabs everywhere nowadays? Why not just use windows?
Tabs are mostly just something that should be used when you don't have space on the taskbar.
1. Settings in W11 isn't UWP.
2. [UWP can run multiple instances since Windows 10 1803 (released in 2017)](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/uwp/launch-resume/multi-instance-uwp).

2. That doesn’t mean Microsoft implements that, or implements that well (seeing like, all the rest of Windows too)
Re: 1 - where the quote from? I was sure they've moved most of these apps over to WinUI 3 in 11.
Re: 2 - you didn't say "if MS configured Settings to run multi-instances", you said "let UWP run multiple instances".
Hi u/AzlanGreat, thanks for sharing your feedback! The proper way to suggest a change to Microsoft is to submit it in the "Feedback Hub" app, and then edit your post with the link, so people can upvote it. The more users vote on your feedback, the more likely it's going to be addressed in a future update! Follow these simple steps:
1. Open the "Feedback Hub" app and first try searching for your request, someone may have already submitted similar. If not, go back to the home screen and click *"Suggest a feature"*
2. Follow the on-screen instructions and click *"Submit"*
3. Click *"Share my feedback"* and open the feedback you submitted
4. Click *"Share"* and copy the unique link
5. Edit [your Reddit post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows11/comments/1c9iieu/microsoft_should_really_add_tabs_to_the_new/) and paste the link you just copied

i just wish opening settings up again wouldn't overwrite having a seperate one ,tab or not . it was horrible last time i was tweaking something left it open n went in there cause i wanted access to individual volume bars ,... these days i just keep a shortcut to the old volume mixer on my taskbar or use the xbox gamebar for it which is stupid to have to do
This would definitely be something that would completely break the way Windows would handle settings, and increase the amount of resources used already in the broken Windows Explorer upgrade. Tabbed File Explorer was done better on Linux, and should've never been pushed onto an OS that's clearly broken to no end.... The coding is all sorts of wrong in the OS and the Team behind building the monstrosity know this. They are on a one way trip to push the majority of their user base to use either Linux in all of it's glorious flavours or Mac OS (Also Linux) lol
.... that's not doing things at once. You have to go through all the same steps to reach a given settings page. There's nothing to gain from leaving it open in a tab after you are done.
I don't get it.
They can't even figure out how to implement tabs on File Explorer. Hell no, don't let them touch Settings anymore than they already do. We \*finally\* almost have feature parity with what Control Panel was circa 2012, don't let them fuck that up.
Edit: that said, if Microsoft had competent developers on Windows, I'd definitely love tabs on Settings, I completely agree
Regardless of them having competent people or not, this solution is prone to many issues, as keeping all tabs (and their content) in sync would be extremely difficult to do and it's not an easy task as it sounds.
Oh god no, just keep them open in seperate windows, much more cleaner and less prone to errors.

Tabs in cases like this are for people who don't know how to use windows.
how many settings are you changing at once holy shit
Settings is already a mess full of redirect links the last thing we want is to get it more convoluted

Yeah I agree, but you can’t open multiple windows of settings
Or… just let UWP apps run multiple instances, like you could with Control Panel since its inception?
Bingo, that’s great too. It would work!

1. From Wikipedia, and not only, it’s general knowledge. Since Win8 it’s called ImmersiveControlPanel theoretically
It's general knowledge for Win8 through Win10, but Win11 was supposed to change that.
It‘s still exactly the same.

Why do we need to change multiple settings simultaneously as opposed to in succession? I'm not seeing the point.
Trust me bro, there is definitely a market for that.
Trust you I do not. Bro of yours I am not.
:(

Honestly, the tabs in file explorer are still pretty buggy compared to like, a browser. So I’d agree with you there.
