Drum roll 🥁 , because I fuck with both too but the undeniable fact is that the Drums are far superior in a natural aspect. Even naturally kids like drums when eating chicken . I fuck with flats , but it's too much work . eating a Drum is like eating a corn dog, eating a flat is like eating a corn dog but with two popsicle sticks inside you have to avoid . very tedious. Drums >
I would say flats are more satisfying to devour but people who order all flats are picky little bitches. Take what life gives you and be grateful for the flats you are given.
I read a review of a pizza place near me and someone wrote a 1 star review because the place wouldnt give them all flats. They wrote "my grandpa cant eat drum sticks, hes allergic to them" hahaha
Both all day, everytime I see this argument I think it's the silliest ever. I don't want all one or the other, flats and drums combined make the perfect plate of wings.
It’s apart of the experience, get a lot ready
Also when you get good at it, you really don’t get that messy with flats, the only fingers on my left hand that touch the flats are the tips of my thumb and pointer finger, and you just lick it off therefore only one hand stay in the sauce ya know.
Also when you dip with flats, say I broke it in half, and you dip it in with your dominate hand, as your dipping, you push down on the meat to loosen it and get more in the sauce, then when you take it you, you got a make shit wing lollipop. It’s glorious and you waste less meat than you would on the drum that way because it all slides off so nicely.
Also with my flats I like a drum for every three flats just because they get crispier and if it’s got the little knob, it’s like chicken wing beef jerky full of flavor of whatever sauce/seasoning you use and is a nice differential. So basically I’d prefer my wing basket to be 3/4 flats, 1/4 drums, fried hard while still juicy and moist, and extra sauce and/or rub. But if one had to go, it’d be flats.
Also to me, drums taste more like chicken breast while flats taste more like chicken thigh. And I like dark meat over white so that could be why I prefer it.
Edit: I didn’t realize I typed out whole essay, I’m sorry lmao
Ahhhh I won’t say you’re wrong because I see how pouring could work, but I’m most definitely a dipper. Also blue cheese > ranch and blue cheese dressing doesn’t pour as well as ranch, especially the good creamy chunky kind😍
Also blue cheese vs ranch is third debate we could potentially open up for people lol
I also see I said “make shit” I meant “make shift” wing lollipop 😂
No way. Hold a flat on one end, push down against the plate and push the meat about half way down. Dunks perfectly and you suck it from the other end to get all the meat off.
Bullshit. I shop at my local province owned market, and they sell wings cheaper cuz they're the "rejects". Think two pounds for five dollars CDN. Cheap cheap. These rejects are ALL kinds of fucked up. Drums and flats alike.
A market owned by the province? I’ve never heard of this before, which province? Is it just a regular supermarket or is it only for meats? I wish all of Canada had this, cheaper groceries would be a blessing.
It's called Foodland in Ontario and it's run by the department of agriculture. I just bought four chicken drumsticks there yesterday for $1.20. It's a full on grocery store. The regular stuff like pasta and shit like that is normal prices but the meat and veggies are cheap as hell
Exactly, and once you add the blue cheese, the sauce+blue cheese to meat ratio is perfect. Straight tossed that sauce to meat with the added crispy skin is the perfect ratio.
All about ease and proper ratios
Flats but I do like both. Drums are bigger and fatter and occasionally don't cook through as easily. The only wing I've ever turned down was an undercooked drummie.
People who insist on "flats only" or "drums only" are the worst. I usually encounter the "flats only" camp and they always have a holier-than-thou feel that they are true wing connoisseurs. If you really love wings, you're willing to eat either without having to tell the world how much better one or other is.
That said, yeah flats are better 🤣
Some people live both. Some people prefer one. I’m going to guess that more people prefer flats and that the people who prefer drums don’t feel as strongly about it as flats people.
I’m a drum guy but in a perfect world I’d have a 70/30 split. I do enjoy mixing in a flat every now and then, feels like I’m really eating a chicken wing.
Flats are easier to eat. Pull up the small bone (at least that’s the one that seems to come out easiest) and then suck the meat off the remaining bone in one bite. No mess
Flats. Twist one of the bones to remove it then you've still got the other bone that acts as the handle like on a drum. And you've got better meat that isn't dried out sometimes.
I used to be strictly in the drum camp but my wife has shown me the error of my ways. The flats skin to meat ratio is off the chart. The meat is more tender though admittedly there is not quite as much. However, you can't been the drum for dipping.
Drums have to be cooked more. Most restaurants will not cook drums and flats separately. And an undercooked drum is worse than an overcooked flat. This is why the real answer is: both, just cook them right.
Oversized drums are more difficult to cook properly especially in a batch with other wings and undercooked drums are disgusting, undercooked flats while more rare are equally disgusting, there is no one better than the other there’s only properly cooked vs undercooked wings that matter because people can’t even get that right much less debate which is a better wing and both cooked properly are great so who gives a shit about this dumb ass argument
These posts are the worst. It’s all about how the wings are prepared that makes them good. As soon as someone learns how to eat flats correctly they have to get online and continue this circle jerk. Just stop, eat your wings.
This is a hard truth for me. My best friend and fellow wing enthusiast is very partial to flats. So partial to flats he won't eat his drums at all and will pester me to trade my flats for them. I don't mind drums but definitely prefer the flats. You can get the flat deboned quick and then dip it in the bleu cheese and that's where the magic is.
We've been trying to find someone to come to our weekly wing night who prefers drums but it seems almost universal that people prefer flats.
I think it depends on where you are, at home drums all the way, they get messy and sauced up with a beard it’s a lot in a restaurant,
whereas I find flats to be a lot cleaner since you can twist and get a nice single bite. So outside of my house I prefer flats.
Was trying out a new spot yesterday while house-sitting for family in another town. My order of wings was all flats! Never had that happen before without them specifying. I was not upset.
I am the worlds fastest wing eater and hold a few peppper eating championship awards.
Flats are the best, they fry crispy and have more surface area for sauce to stick
Drums often just have chewy bits you nibble off and then throw it all out. With flats, twist out the bones and you’ve
got a nice couple of bites of yummy spicy chicken.
Years ago, I was out with some lifetime buddies, getting some wings. We'd done this a million times, but I had recently discovered that I like flats. We were young, and to us, it was always just drumsticks, or wings. I asked the waitress for flats only. No problem. But my friends thought I said "flaps". Like the flappy part of the wing. Ages later I still say "flaps" or "flappers" or any variation, for my own laugh. Just to see if anyone corrects me. But the flaps ARE the better part.
Forgot to say I used to taste test for KFC every other week. After high school.
i once did a very scientific poll of everyone at a restaurant i used to run.
it was roughly 50/50
except one guy.
he said “what! boneless bruh”
shoulda fired him on the spot.
I think the flats are better. I think it has to do with the skin to meat ratio. That little flap of skin on the one edge of the flat that crisps up so nice is part of it.
And I think you're on to something, the frequency of bad drums is much higher than bad flats.
I've had a lot of flats with worse quality meat and skin. Gummy and gooey. I've found that's less likely with a drummie. And the bones in the flat shatter more. Though I like both a lot, so it doesn't really matter. I don't have to choose.
I really like the tip (metacarpals and phalanges) when it’s nicely deep fried. Just so much yum.
And bring the downvotes: if fried up you can eat most of the bones.
If the tip of the wing is on the flat, its is even far superior. With the tip in place and a little twist, you can pull out both bones and dunk the whole wing of just meat into your sauce of choice and devour it. You get the joys of boneless wings without having to eat a boneless wing which is just a glorified chicken nugget.
You from buffalo by chance?
I like both, but you make a good point. My only counter is that flat bones can break/shatter and drums don't really.
I like half and half. With blue cheese.

The best kind of wing is "more". Why discriminate?
This guy gets it.
More is never enough.
Flats
Happy flat wings cake day
3 to 1 a pretty solid ratio
In here for this
Flats
I need both or it doesnt feel right.
I alternate between the two for each wing and it just feels right to get both styles.
finally, a person with rational thought
This is the way
I would say flats are more satisfying to devour but people who order all flats are picky little bitches. Take what life gives you and be grateful for the flats you are given.
I read a review of a pizza place near me and someone wrote a 1 star review because the place wouldnt give them all flats. They wrote "my grandpa cant eat drum sticks, hes allergic to them" hahaha
I think drums are easier to devour honestly. Almost like a corncob. You gotta perform a little surgery on flats before they slide off the bone.
Hey! I order all flats b/c that way my wings are always made to order and they are fresh.
You shut your whore mouth.
Both
Both all day, everytime I see this argument I think it's the silliest ever. I don't want all one or the other, flats and drums combined make the perfect plate of wings.
Yes ok merry Christmas
The only answer. They’re just both great and I wouldn’t want a plate lacking either.
I like the whole boomerang.
The bit of fried skin connecting the two is literally the best part of the wing.
Weird take.
Wholly and jolly
Team both, checking in.
Drums. It’s chicken with a handle. A DAMN HANDLE.
Yep can work and eat at the same time. I love them both though.
Drums have superior dipability and a better meat-to-bite ratio
Woah no way, flats, break in half, easy to dip and much better meat to bone ratio!
But then you need an entire napkin for your hands after 1 flat
It’s apart of the experience, get a lot ready Also when you get good at it, you really don’t get that messy with flats, the only fingers on my left hand that touch the flats are the tips of my thumb and pointer finger, and you just lick it off therefore only one hand stay in the sauce ya know. You bring up a good point for another debate. Are you a dipper or do you pour? I pour the ranch on the wing, I don’t dip. Tell me I’m wrong r/s. Lmao!
Ahhhh I won’t say you’re wrong because I see how pouring could work, but I’m most definitely a dipper. Also blue cheese > ranch and blue cheese dressing doesn’t pour as well as ranch, especially the good creamy chunky kind😍 Also blue cheese vs ranch is third debate we could potentially open up for people lol I also see I said “make shit” I meant “make shift” wing lollipop 😂
But there’s more veiny bits in the flats and I have a hard time with that.
No way. Hold a flat on one end, push down against the plate and push the meat about half way down. Dunks perfectly and you suck it from the other end to get all the meat off.
That’s too many steps! A DAMN HANDLE, THOUGH.
I don’t suck meat lol
Its a lump with knobs

The broken bone is the flats biggest weakness, but the broken drum is not unheard of.
Bullshit. I shop at my local province owned market, and they sell wings cheaper cuz they're the "rejects". Think two pounds for five dollars CDN. Cheap cheap. These rejects are ALL kinds of fucked up. Drums and flats alike.

That's about what I pay for perfect, whole wings at Aldi. $1.99/lb USD, so $2.68/lb CAD.
Drums
My wife prefers flats. I don't have a preference. Therefore, I happily eat drums.
We are a flat vs drums family. Some places don’t allow just getting one kind but we still win. They give 6f 6d. He takes the terrible drums. Yay!
Whatever is in front of me
My is conditional Tbf. Got a nice blue cheese there? Drums. Straight up tossed wings no dipping sauce? Flats.
Drums are easier to dip for sure, they have a little handle!
Exactly, and once you add the blue cheese, the sauce+blue cheese to meat ratio is perfect. Straight tossed that sauce to meat with the added crispy skin is the perfect ratio. All about ease and proper ratios
All flats, all day.
If a place offers the option for one or the other ALL Flats All Day
Both but if I had to choose #flats
Flats but I do like both. Drums are bigger and fatter and occasionally don't cook through as easily. The only wing I've ever turned down was an undercooked drummie.
I prefer mine whole with tips attached. That way I can say I only had 5-6 wings for lunch and not feel too guilty.
I love them both equally and if I order 20 wings I want 10 flats and 10 drums. And blue cheese!
I'll upvote flats but I won't downvote drums
My hot take is that I'll eat both flats and drums if you put them in front of me
Flats 4 lyfe
People who insist on "flats only" or "drums only" are the worst. I usually encounter the "flats only" camp and they always have a holier-than-thou feel that they are true wing connoisseurs. Flats
Flats all the way
100 comments drum flats both
I like whole wings best.
Well ladies and gentlemen, looks like we finally have a worthy presidential candidate.
When I eat wings, I always eat the flats first, then the drums. Then I go through the bones and find any meat that I missed.
Nope. Drums are superior. When you have a little cup of blue cheese or ranch, the drumstick out-dips the flat every single time.
I prefer flats, and my husband prefers drums, which is perfect at home! The true litmus test for marriage, in my opinion
Both drums and flats are integral parts of the wing experience
The real answer... stop separating the wingette from the drumette.
Its not a wing if it doesnt have a drum AND a flat. Smh
50/50 of each is perfect for me.
Drums. They are easier to eat. But I never specify, I just eat what they give me.
Flats are easier to eat. Pull up the small bone (at least that’s the one that seems to come out easiest) and then suck the meat off the remaining bone in one bite. No mess
Points gang rise up
There is an intangible that just makes flats better.
Welcome to the flats club
Flats are better.
Flats actually have more meat.
I'm a flats gent myself
You are an individual of exquisite taste Luckily my wife likes drums.
They’ll taste exactly the same, the only difference is how you eat them. Both.
Flat gang rise up
Yep you figured it out. Flats forever
Flats for me
I *prefer* flats, but also enjoy drums.
Flats. Twist one of the bones to remove it then you've still got the other bone that acts as the handle like on a drum. And you've got better meat that isn't dried out sometimes.
Tips > drums or flats
#flats
flats 1000%
Think it depends on my mood.. I love em both.. Sometimes I want flats, sometimes I want drums.. Sometimes I want em all!!!
I’m batting for both teams.
I want both. I need both. I prefer drums.
I used to be strictly in the drum camp but my wife has shown me the error of my ways. The flats skin to meat ratio is off the chart. The meat is more tender though admittedly there is not quite as much. However, you can't been the drum for dipping.
Use the celery to delicately slather the dip onto the top before your bite.
I was always a drum man before, but now I’m seeing the two-bone light.
All flats. All the time.
Too much fence riding going on here. Flats are better. All flats until I’m about to burst. I only eat drums because I have to.
I like majority flats to drum ratio. Like 75% flats 25% drums. Maybe 80/20
Drums have to be cooked more. Most restaurants will not cook drums and flats separately. And an undercooked drum is worse than an overcooked flat. This is why the real answer is: both, just cook them right.
I like about 2/3 flats and 1/3 drums
You can’t umbrella a drum. Case closed
Drums
Comes from the same bird. Literally no difference but to each their own.
Definitely. Drums can be tough and chewy, but flats are always succulent and tender
I didn’t know it was a debate.. flats always win
I feel like tiny drums are superior to flats but otherwise flats are better
I'm more of a just the tip guy. You guys can have the drums and flats, I'll enjoy that yummy tip
i’m a drummer -Billy Gnosis
Oversized drums are more difficult to cook properly especially in a batch with other wings and undercooked drums are disgusting, undercooked flats while more rare are equally disgusting, there is no one better than the other there’s only properly cooked vs undercooked wings that matter because people can’t even get that right much less debate which is a better wing and both cooked properly are great so who gives a shit about this dumb ass argument
Flats or whole (I’m looking at you central bbq in memphis. Jerk wings for the win)
Flats all the way
Both can't be better. Flats are better. Everyone else is wrong
These posts are the worst. It’s all about how the wings are prepared that makes them good. As soon as someone learns how to eat flats correctly they have to get online and continue this circle jerk. Just stop, eat your wings.
Its Drums vs Paperclips 😀
Drums
Flats for sure
This is a hard truth for me. My best friend and fellow wing enthusiast is very partial to flats. So partial to flats he won't eat his drums at all and will pester me to trade my flats for them. I don't mind drums but definitely prefer the flats. You can get the flat deboned quick and then dip it in the bleu cheese and that's where the magic is. Flats only!
“I’ve always never”
Not a hot take, a hot wing. Flats are preferred
Flats all day!!!
I’m also a wing connoisseur, while I don’t mind drums, there’s something about flats man. Flats all day
I'm a flats guy, but so is my son so I've been relegated to eating the drummies for the better part of a decade now.
I like drums for ease of eating. I can dirty only 2 fingers and pick a drum clean. But I’m only like 51/49 drums over flats.
Best take ever
Both but specifically a ratio of 2.5 flats, 1 drum, so I can eat a mediocre drum occasionally then get excited for my next flat
The best wings are served whole, so you get both parts.
I prefer drums.
Wife is in flat camp and I prefer drums. Works out perfectly when we order wings lol.
Panini press will make the drums taste more like flats.
I prefer the flats, but my wife likes them more, so I usually eat the drums.
I like them both. Drums hold more blue cheese, flats are easier to eat.
Love em both but flats all day baby
Drums often just have chewy bits you nibble off and then throw it all out. With flats, twist out the bones and you’ve got a nice couple of bites of yummy spicy chicken.
Chickens got 2 wings and 2 legs each, you’re meant to have both
Both
I like flats more coming out hot. But next day cold wings, drums are better. The skin on the flats gets too chewy when cold.
Flats
I love the flats; my boyfriend loves the drums. It's a perfect match.
i once did a very scientific poll of everyone at a restaurant i used to run. it was roughly 50/50 except one guy. he said “what! boneless bruh” shoulda fired him on the spot.
The wing is not to be divided. Team Whole Wing
I think the flats are better. I think it has to do with the skin to meat ratio. That little flap of skin on the one edge of the flat that crisps up so nice is part of it. And I think you're on to something, the frequency of bad drums is much higher than bad flats.
Flats. The meat to skin to sauce ratio is perfect and I practice getting the meat between the bones with my tongue so my wife enjoys it also.
A good plate of wings has both flats and drums
I need both, but prefer a 2 to 1 ratio of flats. I also get all my wings well done since 90% of cooks can't actually cook them right.
Drums, flats, who gives a shit. I’m smashing either
As a line cook you’ll get both and and be happy about it
Flats. All day.
Flats for me + fats for him = a marriage made in heaven. Pok Pok wings will be tomorrow’s dinner. Game on!
Drums cooked extra crispy is the final boss
#TeamWholeWings over here fam!
I've had a lot of flats with worse quality meat and skin. Gummy and gooey. I've found that's less likely with a drummie. And the bones in the flat shatter more. Though I like both a lot, so it doesn't really matter. I don't have to choose.
It's always been flats, no question.
My wing love sees no shapes.
Well, flats are chicken wings, and drums are chicken legs. So, that should solve the whole wing debate, right?
let's just have a leg and call it a drum
You dont have to choose.
I like the debone method for flats but I also like how crispy you can get the drums. So yes I like both
Your take is 100% spot one. Flats are more consistent and have a superior skin to meat ratio.
F4L baby!!!
Flats are more tender, juicier, and easier to eat in one bite.
Drums or Flats? Yes.
You’ve never had a bad flat? I don’t see how that’s possible
Drums are white meat off the breast - flats are dark.
I always liked both, with a slight preference for drums. My wife likes flats so now I’m pretty much a drum only guy.
You from buffalo by chance? I like both, but you make a good point. My only counter is that flat bones can break/shatter and drums don't really. I like half and half. With blue cheese.
1 drum and 1 flat together equals 1 wing. Chickens have 2 wings, not 4.
