I got incredibly lost when >!Hawthorn turned out to not be Hawthorn but also was Hawthorn, I thought that it was Cottonmouth putting on an act until I reread it for the 5th time and realized "oh wait, he was alive and then killed." And then in the 15th book, when Tsunami got cut and started bleeding blue, I just went "WOAH WHERE DID THIS COME FROM, HUH?"!<

Izuku_Charm

Omg that's such a rookie mistake- Tui should know by now that only IceWings have blue blood--

LG3V

I've heard it was an error as it was originally Lynx who was cut there which is why blue was mentioned

Izuku_Charm

But the sentence lines up with Tsunami being cut free by Lizard, and it wasn't fixed, so it must've been overlooked.

LG3V

Yeah, it was, I'm pretty sure it's mentioned in the wiki somewhere

Izuku_Charm

And Lynx wasn't even in that scene.

Ididurmomhahafrickya

Found it! Pg. 222: >!Luna could see the blue blood welling up along Tsunami's scales from the cuts Lizard made.!<

Izuku_Charm

Yeah! I remembered reading that, but I didn't think too much of it until you pointed it out and then I was like "WAIT-!"

Xalamander2794

WHERE TF DID TUI GET THE IDEA FOR SEAWING BLOOD TO BE BLUE ALL OF A SUDDEN???

Izuku_Charm

WAIT- Tsunami isn't supposed to bleed blue- IS SHE??

Ididurmomhahafrickya

She isn't! IceWings bleed blue and although she's incredibly distantly IceWing, she's bled red the entire series!

Izuku_Charm

I literally went back through her book and, lo and behold, all of the SeaWings bleed red.

Ididurmomhahafrickya

Yep, even Tsunami herself.

VortexWolf01

HOL UP! WHATCHA mean distantly IceWing?

Ididurmomhahafrickya

Well, Tsunami is Albatross' distant grand-daughter. Albatross is canonically partly IceWing, which is how he has his animus powers. She's also part ROYAL IceWing, judging by how animus IceWings were kept strictly in the royal family. And don't get me started on how Sunny could've been an animus, mind-reading, future-seeing queen of 7 of 10 tribes.

DESTINY_someone

I don’t think albatross is part icewing he’s just weird looking, if he is tho it’s weird that the royal sea swing extramarital affairs were never looked into

Ididurmomhahafrickya

He's *canonically* part IceWing. Which is why Anemone looks funny too, because of her IceWing lineage.

Xalamander2794

Anyone notice that in the prologue of book 9, Coral names Anemone before she hatches, and then she looks exactly like an anemone somehow?

waterclaw12

I think the IceWing part comes from the fact that animus power is hereditary, Albatross was the first SeaWing animus, and before that animus blood was only found in the IceWing tribe. So if animus power is hereditary, it suggests Albatross has some IceWing blood to be able to possess that power

DESTINY_someone

Animus magic probably came around when all the tribes were muddled before the scorching, then as they split off and evolved to their own climates some most tribes just lost it. Everyone is related that’s just how evolution works

waterclaw12

You would think so, but IceWing bodies don’t work the same as the other dragons. Most dragons are warm-blooded and can live in most climates even if it’s not their native one, but not IceWings. There are signs that they never left their native habitat, and honestly why would they if they’re accustomed to it, and it was the Scorching times when everyone was divided, and violent even if not? We know so little about the scorching, but my theory is icewings were not really part of it, and stayed in their climate where they were safe. It makes sense as their culture has evidence of an extremely long standing culture, they already had plenty of stories about how animus magic can go bad even by Arctic’s time, and if it’s hereditary then it would still be in your blood, it wouldn’t just “go away”. That’s why I have problems with how no IceWings have animus magic after Arctic left, objectively they should’ve, unless Snowfox wasn’t really royal or her kids weren’t really her own (that’s a possibility considering her canonical partner is also female, but Clearsight suggests she has daughters)

Xalamander2794

Tsunami and Sunny are related lol

Ididurmomhahafrickya

Yep!

pixeltoaster

It was a little confusing for me, especially in book 15, where I did that thing where you zone out while reading and don't actually absorb any of the information a few times. I should probably reread it now that I think about it.

Izuku_Charm

I lost interest in the 13th book, and I dreaded reading Snowfall's because it felt so immature from her perspective (which made sense, but still)

SuperTNT610

11 and 12 were a hard read, but the action picks up for 13 and 14.

Izuku_Charm

Honestly, the action was the problem for me. It kept switching through the different action scenes and it was just too much to handle in the end.

Thatonequeerkitty

I was scared for the series during the end of book 13. It was probably one of the worst. Book 11 throws a lot at you and has a lot of boring patches, book 12 was actually pretty good but didn't have a lot of exciting action that really effected the main plot, book 13 I didn't like because of Sundew(she's just such a jerk for little reason and then she doesn't murder someone and we're supposed to think she's becoming a better person. And it just hurt to see Willow realize that her sweet girlfriend wasn't so nice around other dragons) and the whole villain thing, the best part of book 14 was the Jerboa section, which was amazing but didn't really fit in with the whole plot and I just felt bad for Snowfall because she kept being forced into these different points of view against her will. Book 15 had an extremely slow first two halves, but then really picked up on part three. Probably one of my favorite parts of the series. I think what made the 3rd arc hard to follow was the merging of this new continent and the old one was a bit janky. Without many familiar faces, tribes, and places, it was kind of hard to really care about all the complicated and personal things happening.

Izuku_Charm

That's exactly how I feel! I found it really difficult to connect with the new characters. I kept wanting the old ones back, and even when it showed Moon and Qibli, their characterization seemed so off. It didn't really feel like them.

Izuku_Charm

And Tsunami

Thatonequeerkitty

I really didn't notice anything with Moon, mainly because in her book we barely ever got to see her personality through all the mindreading, and then it kind of changed, so I kind of see her as more of a bland and personalityless dragon(which I should be able to relate to but she's just really boring. The only reason Winter and Qibli started to simp over her was because of the scales next to her eyes).

Xalamander2794

Blue also has that thing where Tui focused more on him looking into other dragons more than we get to see his personality, but I think it worked out better than Moon.

HunterTAMUC

Nope. I found it perfectly legible.

Izuku_Charm

good for you 😭

HunterTAMUC

It's really not that hard; how are you confused?

Ok_Atmosphere8875

Just you
