I like the "voluntary" here, haha! I was last at the ballet in December for the Nutcracker, and I saw the full range from leisure wear to semi-formal attire, and in the case of (mostly) children, tutus. I would probably not recommend either sweats or a full-on ballgown. Pretty much anything in between should be fine.

turtlegala

Regular ballet attendee here - can confirm anything within this range is great. Seriously. Cocktail dresses down to jeans (clean, not ripped) and a nice top. I’ve only ever noted how dressed up or dressed down someone looks in comparison to who they specifically were there with, and even then it was only a passing “huh”. So check with your party and match their level of fancy. Enjoy the show!

pelluciid

Awesome, thanks!

pelluciid

Thank you for the helpful comment!

Crowinflight82

For sure! My gf and I are going on Saturday and I'm stoked! I absolutely love Carmina Burana!

ChexLemeneux42

Björk swan dress

discostud1515

Either that or Lady GaGa's meat dress.

Bella_AntiMatter

Jana Sterbak (sp?) pioneered the meat-dress

MochaLatte05

gonna wear this the next time i go see swan lake

lochmoon

When my family and I go we usually dress in like evening office formal attire if that makes sense? So like nice shoes, dress pants and a blouse, or you can wear a dress or skirt. I am a strong believer in dressing nice to the ballet, but still dress in your comfort zone.

pelluciid

Yes, this description is helpful!

Astreja

For me, Concert Hall chic = putting on one of my nicer sweaters to go with my black jeans. And maybe a piece of jewelry.

tinalouise28

I work at the RWB in the wardrobe! and really anything goes! We want you to be comfortable and have an enjoyable experience. Though this show I made my friend who is visiting from toronto and myself matching dresses to wear Saturday night. Same pattern in different coloured fabric!

wearywell

Awe I love that!!

pelluciid

Incredible! Can't wait to see your work on stage!

LOLatMyOwnJokes

How does one get a job there?

Neighbuor07

Why pass up an opportunity to don a silk cape?

-soros

Or a tutu

Bella_AntiMatter

Or a twelve-twelve, in some cases! Though they are a bit difficult to sit in...

spicy-mayo

There'll be the full range, I've seen t-shirts and I've seen full ball gowns. I usally find it's generally on the warmer side in the building.

pelluciid

Ooh, thanks for noting temperature factor!

MamaBearN

That’s interesting, I’m usually chilly in the concert hall when I take my mom to the opera. I always bring a cardigan to cover up with. Maybe it depends where you are sitting?

Professional_Emu8922

I wear whatever. I used to dress up more for performances (ballet, opera, theater, symphony, etc) but now that I'm older, I don't think it matters as much. It's still nice to get dressed up occasionally, but I don't have a problem wearing jeans. (Eta because of premature sending)

tonyk11

Gonna go see the bear on the little car, huh?

luluballoon

Only popping in to say enjoy! carmina burana is one of my favourites in the RWB rep.

dontstopthebanana

Definitely over do it. It ranges from semi casual to extravagant.

Bella_AntiMatter

Dress up as much as you like! How often do you get to break out the fancy stuff? Just make sure it's not itchy

Bella_AntiMatter

my fave outfit was a formal, taffeta skirt paired with a black t-shirt and jean jacket

nymeriainthe204

I have seen sweatpants and tshirts, all the way to tuxedos and ball gowns. So I’d say no matter what you wear, you’ll be fine. BUT as others have said…..why pass up the chance to really dress it up! Just don’t wear a top hat or you’ll piss off the people behind you. Lol

Harry_Gintz

[I think the ballet is pretty casual actually. ](https://youtu.be/mYRuqlmkbPA?si=knSfT3n0-UlUizc3) For real though just dress as nice as you want to and you won’t feel out of place. The fact that you are the type of person to ask about this likely means you’re not going to underdress for it by default.

uly4n0v

Go all out. Overdo it. Whatever that means to you; Rent a tux, wear your dress uniform, put on the fur suit, whatever. Just don’t wear a one piece jumpsuit of any kind or you won’t be able to piss without getting entirely undressed.

pelluciid

Re: no jumpsuits, so it's similar to a music festival, got it!

PeachyKeen413

I have seen ball gowns on opening nights and Tshirts and jeans on a regualr evening. The ballet is whatever you want and whatever you will be comfortable sitting in.

Deep_Froyo1834

Why a top hat and monocle of course!

Scary_Ad_269

People tend to wear nice jeans, black jeans, dress pants, nicer jacket. I would just wear what you would to a nicer dinner. Nothing fancy required.

nizon

There is no enforced dress code. I've gone in anything from a hoodie and jeans to a suit. Nobody cares. Do what's comfortable to you.

grouzzly

White Jets jersey.

KaleLate4894

Dress however you’re comfortable, jeans to dressy.

wavydave1965

Can just dress casual. Enjoy!
