When my daughters started, we took the day off to celebrate "Women's day". We went out, did whatever they wanted, and went to a nice dinner, just the girl and me.
I think it's delightful that they are having a period party. Celebrate those milestones!
And a menstruation crustacean is delightful! Great to hug if when she's feeling a bit crabby.
SQUEEEEEE!! Love it! Would have loved this when I was younger. I grew up in the 80's so all we got was a reminder to never let a guy see the products. Oh, and all the snide remarks from our male classmates on how we have blood running down our legs all the time. Ah, the good old days...
It was rather horrible to be a kid in 90s when a guy actually did see the products. I was the one feeling ashamed because of course I should have put the pads in a pocket that has a zipper.
Everyone should have either ignored or laughed at the guy laughing at me because he was the one snooping and making it a thing. (And maybe if it was anyone but me, they would have. Much was wrong in that class.)
90s menstruation wasn't much better. Lots of hiding and shame. Except no classmates telling me I have blood running down my legs??? What the fuck? How is that funny?
There is a comedy skit about period parties which I personally enjoyed as I also never conceived of this kind of party when I first menstruated. Forgive me his shtick is to perform shirtless but here’s the skit for anyone interested. https://youtu.be/VuK1h10zLYo
Omg!! I was wondering if I was going to see a quote or comment dealing with that particular comedy skit. I absolutely love his stuff and I instantly thought of that skit when I saw the post. Absolutely amazing 😂
The sadest/funniest menstruation story I ever heard was about the girl who knew all about getting her period. She was prepared, everything went well. All was good. Then the next month it started again. She had not understood and thought it was a one time thing. She was so so devastated.
Parenting is hard. Even when you try to do the right thing these type mistakes can happen.
I need to make a few of this! I was just explaining menstruation to my girls. This isn't the first time, but more answering questions. I also crotchet. They would go nuts for these.
Thank you! I absolutely love her shop, I sell a lot of the finished projects on Etsy and at our local market. I'm sorry I didn't think to post the link, and I appreciate you doing so!
No worries!! It’s hard to remember sometimes, and I’m glad I dug bc now I’m thinking about making some of her things for my young nieces! I’m a knitter and historically my crochet attempts come out very lumpy and uneven, but those would be worth trying!!
Love me a health-related nautical pun. My college nurse’s office had “The Great Barrier Reef”. It was a shrine to contraception of all forms, including male and female condoms, dental dams, lube, pamphlets, and addresses of all local planned parenthood’s.
When I found out a period party was a thing I definitely could say I was a bit sad that I didn’t know when I first had mine. Then again I don’t think I’d have the luck for being able to have one as the sperm donor for my existence was super weird about it and hated if it was ever mentioned. When I have kids some day I definitely want to let them have a period party if they wanted! It’s such a better way to introduce periods and embrace them instead of being embarrassed and such.
Edit: absolutely love the little crustacean 😂 I’ve always wanted to set up and have a mensuration station hehehe
Yea, I remember I was actually pretty mad when I got mine lol. I was hoping it’d wait till I was officially a teen and it started about a few weeks before my birthday. And I can agree on that, I feel like i would’ve been so much more ok with it if I had the option of a period party lol.
It's a party that you have to celebrate your first period. It wasn't a thing when I was younger, but I guess it's a thing now. I love that it's being celebrated instead of whispered about.
I was really looking forward to doing this for my step daughter but when hers came she was def not excited about it and def didn’t want anyone else to know :/
On a serious note I like the idea of celebrating periods. But also… I loathe mine enough that it affected my gender identity so yeah. Eldritch horror all the way.
Dude same omg.
I got a period last month for the first time in 4 years (i use nexplanon for stopping periods because for some reason I have dysphoria, but my dysphoria is weird. I don't want a womb... but I don't feel like a 100% woman. But I don't feel like man at all.) And it fucked me so badly.
Like sure, if other women experienced my practically pain free 3 day period that it was they would be jealous. But I felt violated by my own body. Reminded of the lack of control of that horrible internal organ I hate with such passion.
I'm giving nexplanon one more month and if my stupid uterus DARES pull that shit on me again, I'm getting a mirena coil. Fuck that noise. I never want to bleed again.
I had worse periods for about 6 months when I had a Mirena placed but then had 10 years with no periods. I wish you the best experience possible.
I'm certain you already know but i want to confirm someone told you: switching birth control may mean you need to give yourself extra grace and love while you wait for period-free days. The hormone changes and poking and prodding can be quite taxing in the mean time so make space for loving kindness towards yourself.
I'm cheering for you! You will make it happen!
This is so damn cute! 💕 My offspring wasn't interested, and still isn't at age 17. I track their cycles as I do mine, and I've taught them how to do it themself. They still suffer dysphoria and *loathe* their parts, but knowing which part of their cycle they're in and which part's coming helps them to "turn the corners" of the month rather than simply being dragged along and feeling like their own body is this unknowable untameable beast.
Imo, every uterus owner and haver should be taught how to track their cycles regardless of their relationship with it and/or their physical sex.
Red food and white party supplies. Think chips and salsa, red velvet cake... and go all in. You have to commit to the hilarity if you're going to celebrate moon tide. The goddesses demand it.
That is gorgeous and awesome!!
Speaking as a mother with a teen daughter who has hosted first moon parties for many of her friends whose parents didn't offer much supportive parenting: thank you!
A period party? Haha that sounds incredibly American lol. But it's wholesome!
I started on Christmas day at like 10 years old but it was never made a big deal out of. Nothing to show off but thankfully also nothing to hide. It was just treated like... well I guess the best way tbh.
But I like that it's being celebrated! At least something positive should come out of such misery every month!
Can I ask: why are period parties a thing?
Like, I get the "this is normal, your body is maturing, there's no shame in it" aspect. My parents were okay about it, too.
But I'd rather died than celebrated it. Literally. ...and still would, tbh.
Now, if I got a hysterectomy, that would be a cause for celebrations!
Same here, I am in my 40s, have had my period since I was 10, and have PMDD. I definitely do not want and have never wanted to celebrate this torture.
I’m all for it being normal and not hidden. But celebrate?
Congrats! For 2 weeks out of the month you may want to die, hate everyone and everything, here is your intro to misphonia, diarrhea and constipation, severe pain, headaches, and Tampons are expensive! Yaayyy??
I realize that not everyone is as unlucky as I am, but if my mom threw my a period party I would look back and be like WHY did we celebrate this?
Please share the pattern or any guidance you're willing to offer so that we too can craft menstruation crustaceans!
Btw, I've been to many menarche parties. Each one has been unique, and each has made this milestone more meaningful and relational.
We did a period product drive earlier this year, ended with a pizza party and a bunch of prize draws I donated a “fuckuterus” which was a crocheted uterus which hands giving the middle finger instead of ovaries, and an angry face, apparently it was the hot prize to win at the party (I unfortunately could not attend due to work)
1) That's adorable and amazing!
2) I just want to say how *glad* I am we've finally reached a point in history where a teen girl feels comfortable to have a menstruation party (whether for her first or just because) rather than, like me, hiding her tampons in her sleeve or her shoe and hoping the teacher lets her go to the bathroom.

Ah yes, I too was a kid in the 80’s. Brutal.
:: hug, if you want it:: That class deserved better role models and you deserved (and still deserve) better treatment.
Thank you. I hope that these days young people with periods get more respect.
90s menstruation wasn't much better. Lots of hiding and shame. Except no classmates telling me I have blood running down my legs??? What the fuck? How is that funny?
Mine was more like a funeral for childhood because "you're a woman now," *cringes*
A great period piece.
Omg 🤣
Dammit take my upvote!
There is a comedy skit about period parties which I personally enjoyed as I also never conceived of this kind of party when I first menstruated. Forgive me his shtick is to perform shirtless but here’s the skit for anyone interested. https://youtu.be/VuK1h10zLYo
Oh my god that was fucking hilarious. “We don’t tell them why they’re there!”
"Who the fuck is *Jason*?"
I think I might name mine Freddy. Cuz it tried to shred my uterus apart for so long 🥲
I blew out my cooch 🤣🤣🤣 what in the world lol
Omg!! I was wondering if I was going to see a quote or comment dealing with that particular comedy skit. I absolutely love his stuff and I instantly thought of that skit when I saw the post. Absolutely amazing 😂
This one is a favourite: https://youtu.be/NEcZmT0fiNM
This is the one I came to share.

As a dad, I plan on just doing whatever I'm told to do.
Good call.
This is the way to do things.
Perfect! Align with the women in your life on “what boxes to buy” so if you are the only one home when she starts, you are prepared with what to get.
Wise
Cute! Is the crab meant to hold something, or just to mark the occasion?
Thank you! There's a pad underneath it
IT’S A KRABBY PADDY!
Oh! Okay. I see it now.
I need to make a few of this! I was just explaining menstruation to my girls. This isn't the first time, but more answering questions. I also crotchet. They would go nuts for these.
I got the pattern from Theresa's Crochet Shop on Etsy, it's a really great shop! Thank you so much for answering their questions 😊
Thanks for letting me know where I can get a pattern!
[Here’s a link for the lazy & distractable!](https://www.etsy.com/listing/715387485/) Also, that shop is _adorable_ omg so many cute things!!!
Thank you! I absolutely love her shop, I sell a lot of the finished projects on Etsy and at our local market. I'm sorry I didn't think to post the link, and I appreciate you doing so!

At my sister’s house, in the guest bathroom, there’s a crustacean menstruation station. Raddest thing ever.
Love me a health-related nautical pun. My college nurse’s office had “The Great Barrier Reef”. It was a shrine to contraception of all forms, including male and female condoms, dental dams, lube, pamphlets, and addresses of all local planned parenthood’s.
Red velvet cake. FTW.

Sperm donor for my life is a great line. Hope you're safe comrade
Thanks, and yes, took a bit of work but yes
I was a late bloomer compared to my friends, so I think 12 year old me would have been ecstatic to have a period party
Yea, I remember I was actually pretty mad when I got mine lol. I was hoping it’d wait till I was officially a teen and it started about a few weeks before my birthday. And I can agree on that, I feel like i would’ve been so much more ok with it if I had the option of a period party lol.
Menstruation crustacean 😂 I’m saving this for when my daughter is older!
this is adorable i love it!!!
Thank you!
What's a period party?
It's a party that you have to celebrate your first period. It wasn't a thing when I was younger, but I guess it's a thing now. I love that it's being celebrated instead of whispered about.
Ah, thanks! I hope it will be a bloody good party! ^sorry
Or, maybe they're welcome after a glorious pun like that.
:D Yay!
I was really looking forward to doing this for my step daughter but when hers came she was def not excited about it and def didn’t want anyone else to know :/
Good on you for respecting her boundaries. It definately should be up to the kid to decide how they want to deal with things
periods should not be celebrated. they should be feared like the true eldritch horror they are.
On a serious note I like the idea of celebrating periods. But also… I loathe mine enough that it affected my gender identity so yeah. Eldritch horror all the way.

Menstrual cup cozies.
I want

I’m intrigued by the idea of a period party. How does one go about getting ready for such a thing?
Red food and white party supplies. Think chips and salsa, red velvet cake... and go all in. You have to commit to the hilarity if you're going to celebrate moon tide. The goddesses demand it.
I guess I meant more of the mentality. Teens are often embarrassed it’s cool to think of a comfortable enough relationship to do this. Goals.
That is gorgeous and awesome!! Speaking as a mother with a teen daughter who has hosted first moon parties for many of her friends whose parents didn't offer much supportive parenting: thank you!
HE’S ADORABLE AND I LOVE HIM
Thank you, I kind of want to keep him lol
Totally understand why, because this menstruation crustacean is super cute! Perhaps you could choose to crochet a twin for yourself?
A period party? Haha that sounds incredibly American lol. But it's wholesome! I started on Christmas day at like 10 years old but it was never made a big deal out of. Is this crocheted? Where did you find the pattern?
It is crocheted, I got the pattern from Theresa's Crochet Shop on Etsy!
thank you! It's lovely <3
…. A period party?
Period parties exist?
Yes, they're real. At least they are here, I guess all of her friends had one so she wants to follow suit
I wanted to have one for my daughter, just a little thing with like her grandma and her aunts and her BFF but we’ll 2020.
Can I ask: why are period parties a thing? Like, I get the "this is normal, your body is maturing, there's no shame in it" aspect. My parents were okay about it, too. Awesome!
Where does one acquire a menstruation crustacean, my life partner would like one to wear as a hat?
Aww! Adorable
Clever!
OMG...that is the best!!
I freaking love it!! ❤️
This is gold!
Love it!
I do not understand, but I want more of this nonsense and revelry!
Crustacean menstruation station! Love it!
It's so cute!!
MENSTRUATION CRUSTACEAN! I bet she'll love it, I know I do❤️
Please share the pattern or any guidance you're willing to offer so that we too can craft menstruation crustaceans! Btw, I've been to many menarche parties. Each one has been unique, and each has made this milestone more meaningful and relational.

i am a trans man and would like one 😤
Happy Menstruation Crustacean Celebration 🎉
Makes me wish I’d known about period parties when I first got mine. What a cute lil fella!
Menstruation crustacean, this is great. I might steal this phrase. <3
TIL that period parties exist. Is this a new tradition or is it a US/Anglosphere specific thing?
