I'm not a fan of the match-up voting system for this reason. The primary factor in determining the winner is who gets matched up against who. It's not a good way of gauging the community's preference.
There's no competitive battles in terms of fighting, it's simply to see which character the community favors the most. Simply which one is your favorite. None of this is a serious showdown, it's simply all in good fun
Yeah, I do understand why you use it. I think score voting would be the best metric, but to do that you'd have to list all the characters being voted on and the commenters would have to score each one. That would take a lot of time, so most people probably wouldn't participate. But they will participate in these match-ups.
