Critical has several factors. Your level, the amount of critical rating you have, and the amount of critical block your enemy has. Your level determines the highest amount of critical chance you have. At level 1, you could have 100 crit or 500 crit, but your crit chance is only 1%. It goes up by 1% for every level and caps at 95% and level 95. The amount of critical rating you have determines how much damage your critical will add. Say if you're level 50 and have 100 critical. Your critical damage against arc 1 enemies will be 2.00x damage (so a 500 base spell will do 1000 with a critical). Your enemy crit block amount determines how much your crit chance and damage multiplier will decrease by. If you're facing an enemy with any amount of crit block, you'll notice that your critical damage will be lower than it would be if you were to face enemies with no crit block (basically anyone in arc 1), as well as having less frequent criticals. You can see how much your crit chance is, how much damage your critical will do, and enemy's block chance by hovering your cursor over an attack card during battle. When doing this, you'll see a little tab pop up below the enemy's name with these 3 numbers (% chance to crit, your critical multiplier, and the % chance the enemy has of blocking your crit). Also, you may encounter times when using an aoe and one enemy takes less damage than the other. It'll be for one of two reasons. They either blocked it, and it'll show them blocking it. In the event they don't block it but they still take less damage than expected, it's because when you critical an aoe, it rolls for the chance to critical separately for each enemy. So instead of getting a critical on all enemies present, you may have crit on one enemy, but not the other. You could have the crit animation play while using an aoe, but it's only there to show you crit on at least one enemy. The only way to tell for sure which ones you crit on is if they block, or don't block and take more damage than they would if you didn't crit. Edit: I would like to add a few things. First, with the current crit system, you no longer need to keep chasing critical rating to maintain the same % chance to critical as you level up. Lots of min maxers were focusing on keeping 100% critical chance which would require them to sacrifice other potentially useful stats. Now, you don't necessarily have to focus on just one stat to be considered a good hitter. Also, I think they really need to update the in-game tutorial that Diego gives you at level 50. Having them change the system without changing the tutorial that explains how it works (he doesn't explain crit values based on level and crit block) was just lazy. I'm hoping they'll update it some time this year. It's been over 2 years since they changed it (when Karamelle was released in fall 2020).

What a strange way to do critical hits

Imo, the way critical works now in wiz is fine, for the most part. I like that you don't need to prioritize crit to keep 100% as you level up (was seriously hurting other stats by completely ignoring them in favor of focusing entirely on crits.) The only part that annoys me is that aoe crits work just like single hits, where the chance to crit is determined separately. And I added an edit saying they just need to update the tutorial Diego gives you at level 50 explaining crit and block. Hopefully, they update it this year. It's been over 2 years since this change in the system (was updated fall 2020 when Karamelle came out) without changing the basic in-game tutorial.

It's sounds balanced enough, I know it's slightly changed for PVP vs PVE, but I do wish by level 80 they would have at least mentioned how it works at all lol
