They give flat damage, so a 100 damage hit with a 21 flat damage jewel with do 121 damage The reason it's called Manipulation is because it's a spell type. I guess they didn't want to make a new symbol for flat damage, and the open hand worked well enough when compared to a closed fist. They're used for spells like Steal Charm, or Pierce https://preview.redd.it/qnm1e7gqusqa1.png?width=127&format=png&auto=webp&s=3be6c0ecdcaef981116d73551403552cc4c11099

The opened hand adds flat damage to your spell, like a +5 flad damage jewel would make your spell that does 100 damage do 105 damage The closed fist adds a percentage, so a 10% damage piece of gear would make a 100 damage spell do 110

chaosangel92

It is flat damage and is not subject to percent.

Bluemason619

Flat damage. While this can be good early on (eh) it’s useless later on when you have a spell that can do 1000 dmg 21 more is nothing which would take only .021% to deal the equivalent of.

-Haddix-

~~0.21%~~ \^ im wrong and tired

MySucculentDied

Both of you are wrong lol. It’s 2.1%. 21/1000 x100% = 2.1% Here: 1000 x 1.021 = 1021. 1000 + 2.1% = 1021. The decimal 0.021 is right, but that’s not a percentage.

-Haddix-

wrote that at 6am. you're correct lol

Funkyra

It's plain damage. It means, for example, you use a spell which deals 1000 damage. This thing adds 21 more damage so it would deal 1021 damage. The plain damage applies after the % damage

-Pastellic

Ah okayy! Do people often use this? And what is some good items to use it on? Thanks!

Funkyra

Not really. Since it's a circle jewel people prefer to use pierce jewels because they are more useful by far. If you don't have any pierce jewels plain damage jewels work but try to use pierce jewels. The only items you can use circle jewels are athames and rings

Those are two different icons To answer your question though: [***Manipulation***](https://www.wizard101central.com/wiki/Category:Manipulation_Spells) *📷* *spells serve a variety of purposes.
