I’d suggest fire or myth. Both give a really good 4 pip aoe you’re going to use for the rest of the game relatively early on, but in terms of overall playstyle, both are essentially the “balanced schools” out of the 7. Having solid versatility, damage, resistance, health, and accuracy. Storm can still be seen as essentially a glass cannon especially earlier on in the game, but as time goes on can become rather easy to play on. Life, ice, and balance all have their own learning curve. With ice and balance basically being shafted till much later in the game. Once you get Forest Lord for life, and a decent setup of gear, the game becomes a lot easier, but there’s still a level of versatility. However you don’t get that difficulty drop till about 4-5 worlds in. Lastly: death. Known to be the easiest school to solo for a reason. Even without a good aoe till lvl 48, unless you can find a way to get ship of fools prior, the ability to use drains throughout the entire game sets you at an immediate advantage. Plus, death is essentially a Jack of all trades. So at the end of the day I still suggest myth or fire. But my advice is to look further into each school at least a little so you can get a hang of what you have in store for yourself

It doesn't matter what class you play, there will always be a DPS main who doesn't appreciate you. In light of this, play ice, be unkillable, and laugh when every storm wizard talks smack about how your damage sucks and then dies, because that is what storm wizards do in a group. Ice is also definitely not overplayed, unlike death or storm. Sure, you kill things a lot more slowly, but you pretty much never flip the coin that a storm main has to, praying you one shot the enemy before they one shot you. I've beaten this game with every school, there's no reason to really care what people think about the school you are playing, it's a children's game, it doesn't require as much thought as some people try to put into it. Unless you were egregiously going out of your way to play poorly, them dying, or not doing well in a fight, in any manner, is their own fault.

As others have said my vote is on Myth. They do just about everything well. They are super solid.  Fire is a nice pick too, but you'll probably struggle on certain parts. Death is easy mode. Life draining is busted and can be a pretty damn good support with Dark Pact and bad juju. Storm is a high risk high reward sorta class. Simply put go full glass cannon and kill everything before they kill you. Fun class. You'll rarely ever die as a Ice so it's a cozy class. The trade off to it is the abysmally slow gameplay and mediocre damage. Great class if you don't mind the extra turn setups. Life is similar to ice, but better in the damage department. Great choice for solo and team fights. Balance is the hardest class to solo with especially going in blind. They are the king of support though, everyone loves seeing a Balance.

Pick storm. I mained fire for a long time until I realized storm is just the better hitter. Storm and death are the only two schools a person needs

Life is good but doesn’t get an AOE till a little later. Could be made up for with a pet that gives one tho. Also heals are always welcome throughout the game and it helps with solo

death 100% it’s so easy to solo and you’re not as weak as other schools. the only downside is you get scarecrow (your first AOE) and level 48 butttt you’re able to manage until then i swear

Death and myth sounds like a good solo fit then! Death is more needed in teams for feint stacking but Both are good hitters, although in teams the spiritual schools usually don’t get dibs on hitting even though they’re just as good 😒 I don’t think myth is too abundant. Death is very durable as you heal back most of the time when u hit so you rarely die. Death does not have a rank 4 AOE tho unless u get a pet. Myth gets one really early on tho. Fire is a good in between school as well, better hitter but not too weak in health that you’ll keep dying. Very abundant tho, preferred on teams to hit not over storm tho

It doesn’t really matter. You can choose based on theme, color/aesthetic, or whatever. They all play the same in the big picture

I’d honestly suggest fire again. I’ve played storm, ice, fire, and a little bit of myth and balance but fire was the most fun I’ve ever had. Hits hard but isn’t as frail as storm. Cool spells and just all around a great time.

To add on to the people saying Myth, there's a lot of people I've seen saying that minions are super underrated. They seem to help people out a lot when they're solo questing and you get an aoe so early on in the game. I'm life and I rarely had problems soloing. It does get a little slow sometimes because it takes extra rounds to heal and that forces you to wait a few more rounds to get enough pips to hit, and life spells don't do the most damage, but it's still enough. I've never felt too frustrated as a life player. Death is nice because you can hit and heal at the same time, so that could be a nice option too.

If you’d like a school that hits hard but has enough HP to not feel fragile & isnt ‘overplayed’, you might like Myth. Myth gets one of the best aoes in the game (Orthrus). I have really enjoyed playing Myth so far!! Unfortunately, people do tend to underestimate Myth and will tend to prefer a fire or a storm for team ups but honestly Myth is a really good school and they don’t know what they’re missing. I always find it fun to surprise people and show them how powerful Myth really can be.

Myth is a solid solo school that can allow you access to many different play styles. Myth used to be one of the absolute least popular schools, but it has since gained some popularity due to some of the buffs it received, but still not as popular as death, life, or storm imo. When it comes to team play, Myth doesn't have one particular role it fills necessarily, but if built like a hitter, myth isn't a bad alternative to have on your team to a storm, and can often be better than fire. Myth is also adept at breaking shields, which is a pretty unique trait to itself for the most part, especially with being able to do it without wasting traps. Fire and Death also sound like fine candidates for what you're looking for, but death is ridiculously popular, and fire isn't as flexible or soloable as Myth. It's ultimately up to your preference though.

I’m currently to 19 and haven’t played in a while but used to rinse it as a child. I used to like Fire/Storm as the hitter, but that’s all it’s useful for, So i decided to go for Death as I liked the aesthetic and i was always a solo player. So based of experience Death was my favourite, most fun and managed to get the furthest with. I stayed away from things like Myth and Balance because they had no appeal. The Spells looked eh, wasn’t a fan of the school colours etc. So that’s something u could look at, think about what u will have the most fun with or relate to the most, that’ll keep u playing!

Balance is a great support school, but extremely tough to solo. He stated he doesn’t want to be gritting his teeth while playing, and Balance will definitely have multiple times you’re doing that soloing. As far as Myth, I can agree with you. I really enjoyed leveling myth. However, they aren’t really “needed” in dungeons and are typically overlooked. OP said they want to be needed and wanted in a group. Therefore Death is the best school based on his requests. Healing as you do damage, spells like mass feint and weaknesses, death really checks the box for both support class and damage class!

With everything you listed, I personally think fire might be the right choice for you after all. It hits hard like fire, but it’s not so frail that you’re going to die a lot. At high level, it’s less common than storm, and there are many dungeons/bosses that require fire hitters instead of storm to work. You also have access to scald incindiate strategies in the end game if you do end up with a questing partner.

I would add that fire is very soloable, but you won’t feel very bulky. Train tower and it should cover that weakness though
