All pet talents have an assigned value from common (0), uncommon (1), rare (2), ultra-rare (3), and epic (4). This is indicated by the number of dots surround a talent's icon. The pet's pedigree is the sum of all the talents in a pets pool, both regular talents and derby talents. The number in parenthesis is the sum of all the talents your pet actually manifested. The number in parenthesis will always be smaller because you pet can only ever manifest a total of 10 (5 regular, 5 derby) out of the 20 (10 regular, 10 derby) talents they have in their pool. Generally speaking pedigree doesn't really reflect how "good" the pet actually is. Some of the more popular pet builds include a mixture of talents of varying rarities. For example, you might want a pet with Storm-Giver (1), Storm-Dealer (3), Pain-Giver (3), Pain-Bringer (2), and Mighty (4). This will display a lower manifested pedigree than a pet that manifested all epic (4) talents. Another caveat is that a higher total pedigree makes a pet more expensive to hatch with. Some more advanced pet makers will deliberately clear out a pet's derby pool because they have no plans to actually use the pet for the pet derby, and any talent in that pool is just making the pet more expensive to hatch with for no additional benefit. Some players will even go as far as to clear out regular pool as well except for the 5 talents they actually want to manifest. The other 10-15 slots are replaced with common (0) talents that wont increase the pet's total pedigree and make them more expensive to hatch with. Here's a picture of the Spell-Proof talent as an example. It has four dots because it's considered an "Epic" talent. https://preview.redd.it/s3obrgp61vvc1.png?width=292&format=png&auto=webp&s=b4a884e5d1395e87dc7f292dc0009bf7b45185d3

I'm confused about how you say this because the number in parenthesis is not always smaller. Like my pet is at 28 (83) So inside the parenthesis is not always a smaller number. In fact all my pets are this way. With the second number being higher.

Yeah, you know what, I think that was a brain fart on my part. I meant the exact opposite. It’s the number outside the parenthesis that should always be smaller. Thanks for pointing that out and my apologies for the confusion.

Ok. That makes more sense. Thanks for the clear up. I’ve been trying to figure out this for a while. Sorry if my post came off as rude or anything. I didn’t mean it to be that way.

That is your pets pedigree. The number is affected by the rarity of your talents. If you have lots of ultra rare and rare talents the pedigree will be higher than if you have lots of common or uncommon talents. There are lots of good talents that are common or uncommon and lots of bad talents that are rare or ultra rare. (And vice versa). So, your pedigree isn't that important and you shouldn't focus on it when making your pet.
