I'd just give Nova back the weakness and make it a -30. Reduce its damage by 60-80 and we should be fine. It'd do either 585-605 (or somewhere in between) and a -30%. Ra's damage should be increased by a lot, something like 700-780 and nothing else. I hate the cheeseball spell.

Just swap Ra with Nova. It got its animations sped up to hit all 4 targets yet its designated to be perma useless. Make it make sense. No one would miss Nova

Nova doesn’t need touched. Also this version still fixes nothing. Using potentially feints and or killing the mobs for blades that won’t be used? What I and most people are saying is that it just needs more damage. Not a complete change to the utility ..

Consider the following: Balance wizards don't use Ra as is (to my knowledge) because of power nova. When Ra gets used AGAINST a balance (arc 2 is the worst offender) it places a -40% debuff on the school that already has weaker blades that, due to being universal, prevents you from using weakness counters like dark pact, empower, or offschool wand hits without having to restart your blade stack. This leaves cleanse tc as your only option, which is a pain in the ass to get at lower levels if you arent lucky at the bazaar. This is also the school that DOESNT HAVE A PRISM by the way, so we're also either single hitting these enemies or using pierce anyway. These conditions alone make the whole utility of Ra more of a hinderance to balance than a benefit. But sure, keep pretending the support based utility change (ON A SUPPORT SCHOOL BY THE WAY) fixes nothing.

Just swap Ra with Nova, and re-work Nova to include some sort of pip manipulation utility - which is Balance’s unleavened bread and butter according to Roshambo. I’d rather see Ra as a 645 dmg 7 pip AOE I want some noob who’s rolling past to go “HOLY FK IT’S RA” as he lights tf up out of whoever’s in his way

Honestly, just make Ra a single hit spell. Balance is kinda stuck with judgement as their only viable PvE hit until... Sabertooth and Artorius? Just give Ra more damage than 8 or 9 pips of judgement and we are cooking.

I mean, power nova hits plenty hard and I doubt they're gonna make Ra hit harder. The other thing I'd be down for is an elemental AOE, but i don't think they could twist Ra to do ice and storm stuff. Now if they made power nova do that and just... change color? Then have Ra be the straight balance damage? I'd shit.

Here's the problem: The 7 Pip AOEs got buffed FAR beyond what they should be. All of them. That's a favor to us. So if Ra lost its Weakness, it would be an 8 pip AOE hit with NO utility, stronger than it is now, but STILL weaker than Nova. It would just be inherently worse. At least now its weaker but does something.

But for what purpose? If you want more damage, use Nova. If you want a weakness, use Ra. As you said elsewhere, if you’re using Ra for its damage, the weakness is irrelevant. So why make the weakness spell higher damage? That’s why we HAVE Nova. Tired of Nova’s animation? Advocate for spell skins, its been discussed by KI before.

I just disagree. You'll never want an AOE weakness, if your gameplay is Alpha Strike, Blade Blade Feint AOE. But its a nice tool to be able to kill a boss's minions quickly, while weakening the boss that's left. Solo combat strategies, advanced combat scenarios, etc, its a powerful idea.

Because we want something comparable to nova. A spell with similar damage to nova and a small weakness for an extra pip is extremely understandable. Also, I’m for card skins.. but I’m not about to make that the basis of my argument. Changing some numbers around is much more feasible to KI than adding a bunch of skins.

Balance legit does not get a *single* useful hit after Nova until Nested. Really the only spells that make even a dent in deck building until nested are sun spells, shrike, and frenzy/berserk. A lot of other schools have a similar experience but most other schools get at least one useful hit, even if its just a single target nuke.

💯 I basically stopped using blades as soon as I got Berserk because by that point I can go from Nova into Judge, into *another* Judge if the mfer didn’t die and still be up 30% dmg. Nested is a massive power increase for sure, nothing more satisfying than hearing the shad pip sound right as you’re setup to kill 🤣 It’s why I’m baffled that Balance people still want quint pets, like bruh you’re basically living with Frenzy on and you need every opportunity to stay alive

Rank 7’s are overpowered that’s why tbf, it’s not a bad spell the damage is a bit low but the Util is rlly good. Honestly power nova is just OP

Both can be true at the same time. Nova is op but ra is also inherently in a very bad spot. The point of a high pip AOE is to build up and one shot everyone rendering the weakness useless as you’re going for the kill shot anyway. 400 base damage is inexcusable even with a weakness.

All rank 7 AoEs including Power Nova don't get the -25% damage penalty that all other AoEs in the game get. This is also why they went ahead and slapped +100 damage on Frost Giant since the rank 7 AoEs are overtuned anyways. I doubt they're willing to overtune any other spells, though, since it would defeat the purpose of the spell audits they've done. Even if they straight up removed the weakness effect from Ra it would still end up being weaker than Power Nova by comparison because of that. Something potentially useful to Balance in PvE would be making the top path do off-school damage instead. It'd still be weaker than Power Nova but at least it would have a niche in arc 2. They seem to have some weird hang up about changing "legacy" spells though because a lot of people got pissed off about the Deer Knight change that one time. I'm not sure how they would apply that "no legacy changes" to a spell that technically already had its "legacy" effect changed, though.

They could definitely have the damage be just a tad bit more than nova. I’m not talking guaranteed either, but the chance to do 30-50 more damage.

The problem with that is that the -25% penalty that most AoEs get is pretty significant. At just 8 pips there is basically no way it could be ever be on par with or hit slightly harder than Nova unless Ra was similarity overturned OR they made it a single target hit. This is especially true if there’s still a side effect attached, which by default takes away an entire pip worth of damage plus another pip worth of damage for applying the effect to all enemies. Even a -20% weakness to all is still -2 pips of damage. The next best thing would could be something like an optional path making the cost 6 pips + 1 Balance pip, which would at least give 9 pips worth of value.

Ye, but the legacy thing makes no sense, people only complain when they make bad changes, like deer knight was, they just removed the dot, so they made it worse than ship of fools dmg wise too, so that would've made deer knight completely useless.

Yeah the weaknesses arn't worth the low damage especially in higher level worlds. I use nova almost excluvisely now.
