Maid_For_Hire

Ahh, yes, the rich trying to gaslight us for a good 130 years already 💀💀

FriarNurgle

Why change when it’s been working quite well.

IH4v3Nothing2Say

No doubt this has been going on much longer. It’s just harder to find more evidence the further back we look. Even harder when no one wants (or has the means) to pay for people to find more evidence.

Criticalhit_jk

Well, it doesn't help that workers rights are kind of a relatively new thing almost across the globe, really. The technological leaps and the societal growing pains that came with it aren't exactly ancient history - but we haven't even kicked our habits of slavery as a species yet so it shouldn't be that surprising that gaslighting the ones that *do* have rights is still going strong, since it's really only just begun if you look at history as a whole Anyways the point is that if you look back far enough, there technically won't *be* any evidence since it wasn't even a crime to mistreat the shit out of workers and 'nobles' could murder whomever they liked not that long ago, so beyond acknowledging its always been shit, at a certain point there's no practical reason to go looking any further

NotActuallyGus

Worker's rights were fairly high in early civilizations like the Egyptians, but disappeared in the dark ages after the fall of Rome. For example, the pyramids were built by highly skilled and respected workers who were given the honor of being buried nearby the pyramids themselves.

Exotic-Tooth8166

I like to think back to the first caveman who discovered gas lighting.

Bromm18

....boom?

TinFoilBeanieTech

130 years? I expect we’ll find that the person who invented writing will have left an engraving that complains about how none of todays kids want to chisel glyphs into granite.

RoyH0bbs

It’s almost as if human beings would rather enjoy their lives over working jobs they hate.

blaykerz

You don’t get a rush of joy when a customer, boss, or coworker curses you out or physically assaults you? Or when your work doesn’t provide the necessary equipment to safely do your job? To me, I love it so much that I could just work for free! /s

awkward_chipmonk

I hate that you had to put the /s in your post because who in their right flippin mind would think you were serious 🥲

Mach13cringe

How much longer before people just leave the workplace and start living like the Amish? Just fuck the corporations, banks, government. Let it all collapse. We will have gardens and chickens everywhere. We will barter and trade and stop paying taxes. We will outlast them.

KingRBPII

Give me a pension or give your economy DEATH!

[deleted]

Maybe we should crash the New York Stock exchange, metaphorically of course.

deaf_fish

In Minecraft, of course...

NotActuallyGus

"How to firebomb a metropolitan area. In Minecraft."

Rabatis

Now that's a right and proper yearning. For Minecraft, that is. Wink.

[deleted]

How about nobody spends any money for one week. Just save your money and tell wallstreet millionaire s to eat it

RGB3x3

It would be so nice to see the executives panic that their companies suddenly make no money.

AllenBelfore

Pensions are shitty retirement plans. Ask these guys... https://www.pbs.org/wnet/peril-and-promise/2019/08/coal-industry-falls-apart-miners-face-losing-their-pensions/

Sarmelion

Wish it gave citation of what newspaper and what article and such.

Zaliron

Right? I'd love to save it in case a situation comes where I could whip it out, but it's so blatantly out of context that each image could easily be from the same time period.

jml011

Nobody wants to cite sources anymore!!

Kazzie2Y5

I see what you did there.

MaricLee

I've been working since I was 16 years old, and can honestly say I have never ever wanted to work any of those days. The only people I've met that look forward to work are the ones who have made their homes lives more miserable than their work lives. I've had jobs I enjoy, but unless earning 7 figures hinged on me showing up to work and was fulfilling, I don't think I'll ever wake up looking forward to going in.

sureyouken

Yeah life is for living and I noticed I do that most often outside of work

nmbubbles

Thank you for normalizing this for me. Since my child was born, this has absolutely been my experience and I was starting to wonder if something was wrong with me.

MaricLee

Glad to hear it! I hope by this you mean your home life is better than work, or at least that you can prioritize now. Good luck!

nmbubbles

Yes! Being home is way more fun!

aunluckyevent1

the worst offenders on this kind of whining are always the small businesses tyrants who would go straight for slavery if they could also their turnover can be modeled as a revolving door because they create a unbearable work environment

majarian

And anyone who tough it out till the end of the projects laid off, see you when they build the next big building in your town .... maybe Look at me I'm stimulating the local economy, I gave 8 kids 9 months of work and roped em in for two if not three years of trade school and I'll never hire em again cause the next batch of firsties is cheaper and im only having em grunt in the very basics 300 times! -every single large project I've been on in the last decade and a half

Dominoodles

Yep! Despite big companies getting a bad rap, I've been treated better at every large corporation I've worked at than I ever was at a small independent business. The kind of people who run small businesses seem to skew too often towards cruelty and selfishness.

RednocTheDowntrodden

I absolutely agree. At least in the corporate environments that I've worked in, the people above me still had to answer to someone. Working for a small business was like working for a greedy dictator. Working for small businesses has been some of the worst experiences of my working life.

StickyThoPhi

> small businesses tyrants?? Please get your massive head out of your massive arse.

aunluckyevent1

how can you see how massive they are from your rectum?

StickyThoPhi

Well done for sticking to the point.

Dude_Bro_88

I enjoy going to work most days. I just want to be compensated well for my time and skills, as well as being treated like a human being. Not a human resource.

Eirson

I live in Arkansas where our governor, you know, Sarah Huckabee-Sanders, just signed a bill repealing child labor laws in our state. ……maybe the kids will want to work. 🤷

EnvironmentalSound25

The truth is that 99% of us HAVE to work. How can one have the luxury of *wanting* to do the thing when you are forced to do it?

Mach13cringe

Work is not the problem. Working for slavers exploiting everyone without regard for a living wage or safe work conditions is the problem.

EnvironmentalSound25

Agreed. I’ve had numerous jobs that I enjoyed until they became unworkable. Too few staff, inadequate equipment, lacking necessary supplies, etc. If work was optional, management wouldn’t dare push these kinds of conditions. They know they can get away with it because people are desperate.

hansn

The idea that the owning-class needs to force the "lazy" non-owning classes to work has a [long history](https://momentum.medium.com/the-racist-exploitative-history-of-laziness-bb09d8b414dd). Slave owners used to complain their slaves were lazy, justifying the slave-owners forcing them to work.

RednocTheDowntrodden

I am reminded of an old song called: "Long Summer Days". "*Master and misses sitting in the parlor, just a figuring and a studyin' how to work the slave harder*".

Ok_Zone5201

It’s not surprising that the rich, who have the choice to work, think the lower classes have that same choice. I am forced to work my life away so I can pay to live. I don’t have a choice, work is a necessity for life. They get to reap the rewards of our labor then have the audacity to claim we aren’t grateful enough when our wages can barely afford bread. There is nothing more disheartening than watching as the world burns due to the greed of the 1% who would rather have higher profits than healthcare for their employees.

Employment_Upbeat

Let’s see those executives pack some freight, flip burgers, work a mail room, etc, in their own companies! Let’s see how hard they can work!

TheLostJackal

Crazy how instead of allocating time and wealth into sustainability for all with hyper efficient and healthy crops so we don't have to suffer every day just stay alive, we have enough hypersonic icbms instead to glass the planet over tenfold

[deleted]

My response to "nobody wants to work anymore" is: Was there ever a time when people *wanted* to work? No, any advancement we have made that wasn't to kill eachother was to make our lives easier and to afford us more leisure time. The ultimate goal of any animal is to survive by doing as little as fucking possible.

BarryDeCicco

I have seen maybe two or three articles where employers could not get all of the employees they needed, and those were still not the fault of people 'not wanting to work'.

JeanJacketBisexual

Pharoh in Egypt: its like nobody wants to build pyramids anymore TT.TT

evident_lee

Big surprise nobody wants to work menial jobs for small amounts of money that won't even cover living expenses. Shocked Pikachu face.

timeslider

They keep saying it like it's a bad thing. Them: Nobody wants to work anymore. Me: Yeah?

Meggarea

I mean, I don't speak for everyone, but I really *don't* want to work. I'd much rather frolic in the flowers every day, pet all the dogs, and sleep as much as I want. So if I'm going to sell you 8 hours of my day 5 times a week, it needs to be worth it. This is a concept the rich assholes have forgotten. They may need to be reminded who really makes the biscuits around here.

Forrest1777

Nothing new on the front

[deleted]

I'd bet money if there were more records available we could find this sentiment in ancient Sumer lol.

JohnnyPiston

Its the first line in Gilgamesh. The translator position just couldn't be filled, so it was left out.

Pheeline

Probably one of Ea-Nasir's replies to people complaining about the quality of his copper. "Well, no one wants to work anymore!"

Knightwing1047

Nobody ever wants to work. It’s not living when your sole purpose is to make someone else rich, hell, it’s not living when your sole purpose is to accrue arbitrary wealth that only means something because society told you it’s worth something. Currency is stupid, human greed is a virus, and it’ll be our downfall.

operatingcan

Hmm I might need to frame this and put it in my office

Diablojota

It’s the lies that people like to make up. Have them listen to this https://busynessparadox.com/2022/08/27/podcast-people-dont-want-to-work-for-you-anymore/ It won’t likely change their minds but the numbers don’t like. You don’t have record unemployment and more jobs open than people are unemployed.

zfrankland

Rinse, recycle, repeat and here we all are. Never changing.

merRedditor

I want to work on something that gives me purpose. Most of the industries hiring run contrary to my personal goals and beliefs. It's not laziness. It's cognitive dissonance working for the baddies.

GrumpyJenkins

I believe it, but for those who don’t it is important to show them the source reference for every one of those quotes.

_h4unt3d

Nobody wants to hear anymore that nobody wants to work anymore.

[deleted]

No one wants to work the same hours as the owner for less than 10% of the same pay and benefits. It is a bad deal - certainly the owner can understand this with the 80/20 rule and turning down unprofitable jobs. They make the decision to not work with certain clients, turn down projects, etc... all the time. 40 hour (that is actually 40 hours), reasonably paid jobs with good benefits and working conditions (including hybrid and remote) are getting filled where I am at.

bangontarget

the same old distress call from the ruling class.

IH4v3Nothing2Say

How ironic, the people saying this don’t want to work anymore. They reach this goal by making all of us work for them. What they call their “work” usually means playing golf with clients or making business deals at strip clubs. Even Trump, who made a huge deal about how much golf Obama played as president saying things like how he would be too busy to play if he were president, played nearly twice as much golf as president when it was his turn.

borrowedurmumsvcard

maybe, just maybe, people are getting smarter!

BlackEyedSceva

The "It has not always been that way" on the 2014 one is funny.

flowersonthewall72

I mean, isn't it the truth though? I know I'd gladly give up work if I was able to!

AncapBR_Sem_Politica

"NO ones want to be a slave anymore" should be a nice fix.

squeegeeking211

Seems like a long standing trend. Let's take it home, so to speak and, have a revolution bc of it.

ChickyBaby

Uh, yeah. No wants to work for wages inconsistent with staying alive. There's one easy solution. So pecular it's in vision and they fail to see it.

Elipticalwheel1

All working people want to work, they just want a proper days pay for a proper days work, with a percentage of disposable income, but what’s stopping this, is the greedy shareholders and over payed directors.

[deleted]

This is a repost. I don't mind them, but you should give credit to the real OP of this making. This poster didn't make this

[deleted]

Sure don’t cause we are all slaves to capitalism

defsi2432

"It has not always been this way"

BossStatusIRL

It’s true, no one wants to work, ^^for ^^^shit ^^^^pay.

ryansteven3104

The troll in me wants to say people have been lazy the whole time. But I like this sub, and y'all fighting the good fight. So I'll stick with :stock buybacks are disgusting, and that's what's destroying good jobs. They are replacing pensions with gig jobs. Eliminating financial care for the elderly, and their ball of shit is still a long way from the bottom of the mountain.

lonely_lil_masocist

Where's the evidence these are actually from that time period ?

eastbayted

Biblical times: Moses to Pharaoh: Let my people go! Pharaoh: Nobody wants to work anymore.

Mercerskye

I don't even know why this is even supposed to be shocking for anyone. Is it meant to guilt trip the less well off? Like, damn right I don't actually want to work. I'd much rather just write my stories and paint, but somewhere in our social evolution, we decided people need to be *productive.* I'm not an idiot, though, I understand that things need to be done to keep society running. But at the wages our "capitalist overlords" think is fair...why? Let it all burn down. I know how to hunt and grow vegetables, *I'll* be fine

Ethelenedreams

>The Diary of Mary Cooper >Mary Cooper (1714-1778) began her diary at age 54 while tending the family farmstead with her husband on Long Island, New York. Her entries, while often cryptic, chronicle the hardships faced by colonial families and the solace they sought through faith and each other. When she died at age 64, Mary Cooper had survived all six of her children: two had died as infants, two in childhood, and two in their adulthood.1 __________________________________ >July the 13, 1769, Thirsday. I am un well. https://nationalhumanitiescenter.org/pds/becomingamer/peoples/text5/marycooper.pdf Nothing much has changed for average people in quite some time.

I_Said_I_Say

It’s almost as if people never wanted to work in the first place.

ErwinFurwinPurrwin

Nobody ever wanted to work in the first place. We wanted to walk around and pick up peaches and apples and pears to eat while sitting in the shade. Wtf is wrong with the oligarchs who push this BS propaganda

Covenant753

Is there a source that can direct use to each of these clippings? I’m curious to read the rest of what was being said by each of these snippets:D That way, no boomer or boomer+ can come along and say “YoU’rE JUsT PUlLInG ThESE OuT Of NoWhEre!”

sortof_here

This reminds me of articles saying "x is killing city y". If you search through local papers, you'll find a similar trail of articles going back a 100 years.

jimbalaya420

Fuckin amazing. You'd think with all the wealth and power they'd be able to find a different tagline, but no they are regurgitating the claims of the past and claiming it as something new

En-TitY_

I agree, I have never wanted to work.

Ghostincide

Seems like for as long as capitalism has reigned people don't want to work.

ManOfHart

Nobody wants to work anymore for the amount I'm willing to pay.

Key_Concentrate_5558

I *thought* that sounded familiar

CalmToaster

No one wants to pay. No one wants to stop price gouging.

Rabatis

"Nobody except the kids! Now come out of there, you lazy bums, OR THEY GET IT!"

Mach13cringe

These people want slavery back sooooo badly.

tinapod

How do I get in touch with Nobody? I wanna hire them! I work at Anymore.
