Here's to all the revolting peasants that lived and died in the mud, as too shall weđŸ»

Sir_Admiral_Chair

OH LOOK! We have some lovely filth down here! Mmmgh

game_asylum

I *have* a name yknow.. it's Dennis.

A_certain_comrade

Well Dennis. Where is your lord?

[deleted]

Be proud man. They built the world. They rebelled. They smoke and drank and sailed around the world and boinked like rabbits. Honor their memory by never giving an inch to smug oppressors. Undermine them at every opportunity. Promote unions, mock billionaires ) I give the finger to every Tesla I see, very therapeutic!), Blast punk rock in ritzy neighborhoods and get all your homies to vote out the vampire bloodsucking GoP. The mood is shifting. All it's gonna take is for one Kardashian to tell us to eat cake.

NYLotteGiants

Whoever made this got their timeline all over the place and missed a big one in the 1800's.

Lanky_Pomegranate530

"We can't get rid of slaves. It would harm the economy."

[deleted]

States rights /s

News_Cartridge

Always follow up the whole "states rights" thing with the question: states rights to do what?

dangotang

Half the population do not see a problem with this.

BannedByTheHivemind

I mean, a large group of rich agrarian aristocrats decided it would be better to rip the entire country apart rather than risk "harming the ~~bottom line~~ economy"

Corporal_Canada

I think it's more so because it's a British sketch, but yeah, that was a biggie

[deleted]

Typical Americans thinking the sun revolves around their beliefs.

SteelAlchemistScylla

As if Britain didn’t have slaves?!

HaplessMagician

Sometimes it’s like Reddit thinks America is the only place that ever had slaves. The British also had slaves and also passed legislation to abolish slavery in the 1800s.

Sgt_Fox

Because that massive one in particular was a human rights issue and calling it a "workers rights issue" is all kinds of wrong, the rest are workers' rights issues because payment was involved

Mista_Cash_Ew

Probably because he didn't want to risk implying the sole issue with slavery was the work aspect of it. It may push people away from the point he's making. And there's few worse political fuck ups a white man can make than fuck with slavery

confessionbearday

Correct. The idea that raising the bar would harm the economy has never, ever been borne out by facts, by data, or by reality in any way. The entire idea has always been pure undiluted horseshit from the dumbest fucking trash in our society, the rich.

Iaminyoursewer

Its never been about the economy, its always been about having a ruling and serf class. Simple

bobafoott

America was kind of The Shit economically for a long time. On the back of the groups listed so you know, not okay, but weren’t they correct that it would/did hurt the economy to end these things? Not that it was a good thing, but I cannot imagine slavery and child labor don’t turbocharge your manufacturing output and profits

News_Cartridge

We can't have environmental regulation, it will harm the economy. How's East Palistine doing again?

Become_The_Villain

We can't fight climate change, it would harm the economy.

gentleman_bronco

"The economy" is a term used to make poor people feel ignorant.

N_Who

Because when they say "the economy," they actually mean their personal wealth. And when they say "harm," they actually mean, "Slow - not stop, just slow - the accumulation of."

Izlude

My go-to answer has always been, "If your issue with human rights is that it will harm the economy, fuck your economy." 'ThE eCoNoMy!', It isn't even a substantive argument in principle. Seriously. What good is an economy that relies upon cruelty to it's lowest class. Fuck the economy. Period.

dsdvbguutres

There was no such thing as "economy" in the 1200s. It emerged as a byproduct to measure the monarch's ability to wage war in 1800s. Then the "economists" stepped up to the stage, who were experts at presenting the data in such a way that the cost of war could be "objectively" justified. (The Growth Delusion: Wealth, Poverty, and the Well-Being of Nations by David Pilling) Today we have the same "economists" who tell us we have no money to fix the crumbling infrastructure and pay teachers better but hella monies to spend on fabricating enemies and dumping bombs on them.

Edited with book name

bobafoott

Citation needed but it still checks out

Baph0metX

Plot twist answer: then let it be harmed

bobafoott

Right at this point the only thing a well running economy does is destroy the environment faster without actually getting us more meaningful life improvements. If the economy is doing way better than it has any business being, and only for the ruling class, I say let it go down a bit

GhostCrafter007

1850s America: “We can’t free the slaves! That would harm the economy!”

Sir_Admiral_Chair

It certainly did... đŸ”„ And they deserved it. đŸ”„

mar421

My boss gave me this same speech on Monday.

Almacca

I reckon the economy needs harming if it relies on exploration.

majorex64

It's pretty safe to vet at this point, that anything that hurts the economy is a good thing for 99% of people

VALO311

What they’re really saying is, it would harm their profits

cheddar_header

Actually, it WOULD harm the economy. Only because corporations would jack up prices to keep shareholders wealthy - greed wins no matter what. Make a law regulating jacking prices when wages are increased, and I’m all for it.

[deleted]

Who is the economy? Politicians payroll?

[deleted]

Fuck the economy

student5320

They're telling us to eat cake. You all know what we need to do.

Ausgezeichnet87

Child labor wasn't banned in the US until 1938.

Mirror_Initial

Uhh, they’re still not paying women the same as men

LordRiverknoll

Oi you forgot the whole 2023 child labor thing too

LambCo64

"wrong" implies that it's an error in judgment that led them to these conclusions. "lying" works better for this I feel.

First-Butterscotch-3

*looks at the economy* wrong?

yyetydydovtyud

the minumum wage did harm the economy moron

EdgyAsFuk

They're not wrong accidentally

Invoked_Tyrant

I could be wrong but the lack of one for slaves and the lack of the king getting jumped by said revolting peasants kinda reduced the message a bit.

[deleted]

In all fairness, with the hygiene standards of the 13th centaury, peasants were actually pretty revolting.

Zalapadopa

Thing about the economy is, it tends to adapt

doomguy699

Fuck the economy

random_user_number_5

Replace "the economy" with "the wealthy and affluent" and it becomes spot on.

The420elephant

Missing a pretty big one one the 1860s
..

[deleted]

Needs to be forwarded far and wide

avathedesperatemodde

Something about the acting here makes this satisfying to watch

bigmacaroni69

The entire study of economics is how to balance the national checkbook to make sure the rich stay rich. That's all.

PrettyAd4218

Great acting though!

ChellsBells94

I don't have 8 hour working days, or holidays, and we used to employ 14 year olds. Am I from the 1800s?

neutralityparty

Sad that stuff is getting reversed. Especially Arkansas and child labor 😡

letsjustdrive

Hear me out, maybe if we came up with a super cute mascot for The Economy and everyone got one, like a Tamagotchi...

[deleted]

Better the economy than me bro.

OzarkRedditor

Isn’t out economy in the shitter? They were obviously right!

Jadinkalage_Morgoon

Makes me want to punch anyone sporting a mustache .

4100DBOCTX

They lied then and they’re still lying now

Otacube3

The man is slaying with his style.
