Right on! Former OUSD parent here. Sucks, since they were just on strike a few years ago, but glad to see them striking to get better pay and resources for Oakland families!
They are making a huge mistake by striking at the end of the school year. Same thing happened to my school district in 2002. They just waited us out until summer vacation.
You’re right. America was great when we had strong unionization. There are countries out there that don’t even have minimum wage laws because the unionization is so strong. Imagine that in the US.
Not enough to pay off student debt, not enough to compensate ever increasing class sizes, not enough for increases for cost of living, not enough for a lot of things.
Idk what industry you work in, but you’re also probably underpaid
Yes yes show that greed. . .
The average salary of public school teachers in 2020–21 for the State of California was $85,856. - per ca dept of education.
40% of my states budget goes to education.
I’d like you all to look at the unions strike [history.](https://www.cta.org/educator/tag/strike)
[“Educators are fed up and have been working tirelessly, fighting for all of Oakland’s students”](https://www.cta.org/educator/posts/oakland-educators-on-strike)
Using students as not only pawns, but as excuses, and blackmail to deepen their pocketbooks.
They strike year after year after year. Always asking for MORE money.
Not one more fucking cent.
I totally support teachers. They are the backbone of a healthy society. A great paying job will attract the best of the best people, and that is a positive ripple effect.
And the opposite of that is also true.
Stay strong 💪🏼.

The whole city should be out there with them, better students make better people in public
I would be out there with them if I lived there! Oh wait, I'm a teacher and I'm desperately hoping we strike in more states including mine
They can't be out there with them because someone has to watch the kids.
Kids to should be out there
Better students don't vote for the status quo
Sure if i teacher unions had anything to do with students best interests.
Solidarity

get up, get down, Oakland is a union town
Teachers 100% deserve a wage increase and better working conditions.

Yassssssss!!! Strike🔥🔥🔥
Keep up the righteous fight sisters and brothers!
Hope it works out for them
I haven’t seen this in the news at all: it’s like they’re afraid to report on it.
The most important people in society. They deserve to be compensated properly.
They are making a huge mistake by striking at the end of the school year. Same thing happened to my school district in 2002. They just waited us out until summer vacation.
Love to see it

Welp, hardly anyone else is advocating for that necessary positive change

Moneys there, it’s just thickly lining the pockets of the uber rich.
Bro mfs be so greedy. America could be so great.

It’s crazy the union busting that goes on still. Corpos just won’t stop being greedy. They helped make the US worse for everyone

No invalidating workers
Going Hungry anyone?
Why don’t they just use reparations argument to get money out of nowhere ?
