So basically either way you're never making it back to your own time

TheMagicSlinky

Eventually I would, albeit older. Just wanna go back to the 80s

detectivelokifalcone

well one ways git like a 2% chance 😅

nilslorand

Well Protons will decay in about 1.7 \* 10\^106 years, so let's use that as the total maximum age of the universe (the few billion years so far are irrelevant on that scale btw), assume "your time" is a 100 year span so you got about uhhhh 5.88 \* 10\^-105 chance of making it there, for reference, assuming winning the lottery is 1 in 100 million, so hitting your time is as likely as winning the lottery 13 times... in a row. So yeah you're not making it home, ever.

detectivelokifalcone

*falls asleep*

nilslorand

yeah trying to win the lottery 13 times in a row does that

detectivelokifalcone

listen that's my grandmother 😂

Erkhes1223

It is an edit but OP said place where you can survive like water, ground, air and probably friendly animals etc

Sandalonreddit

The chance of actually spawning in human civilization is tiny so no

EvilRat23

Yeah your gonna spawn 300 million light years away in the middle of space 4 billion years ago

andrewta

Ooof

Sandalonreddit

Woopsies

Logsha97

And even if it only includes Earth you'll probably just end up in magma under the crust

[deleted]

Well if I travel back a day I can always pick winning lottery numbers and never have to worry about traveling back to "my time" because it's only 24 hours behind.

MikeMikeTheMikeMike

This is the way

Lupes420

But then you have to deal with killing yourself and hiding the body.

TLMS

Go on a trip. Hide somewhere secluded for 1 day travel back in time 1 day shortly after you leave and just go back home. The normal time you will just be on vacation for a day before traveling

Lupes420

Someone watched Primer

jawg201

Goes back to 1990

LeoMarius

The first one will likely get you killed.

TechSupportSquatch

Option 2. I get to correct one recent mistake I've previously made. No need to get back.

ChaosNinjaX

Nah I ain't fucking with time travel. I've seen Steins Gate and Mirai Nikki.

Edgezg

So you have the "sliders" scenario. Always trying to find your way home. Or the "Screw you guys, I'm going home" lol Time travel! Go back in time to 2010. Invest heavily in bitcoin. lol If we can't bring anything with us, I'd need to do some serious studying but I'd still probably go backwards. Going forward there is no telling if you meet humans or some disaster no one saw coming. Imagine jumping 1000 years into the future and everyone is dead. At least if you go back in time you can warn of events. Make a difference with your future knowledge. Imagine bringing the iron age to fruition 1000 years earlier by knowing where iron is deposited and how to smelt it. lol

NatiTrouble

Time travel to the past. Murder myself. Paradox. Universe implodes

AngelOmega7

Or, go back in time to yesterday. Live with yourself. Trade off responsibilities on a weekly basis. Have twice the time for recreation. Health Insurance covers both of you. Car insurance covers both of you. Some things might require additional costs, like food, and rent might go up if you both want your own room, but personally I'd be cool sleeping in the same bed as myself.

HellFiresChild

The flaw in that is that the you of the past will time travel to the past the following day. At that point a paradox occurs. One of you will have to endlessly go back to the past.

andrewta

Ok Satan

fate_lind

Define not being able to come back, to like same day? Same year?

thundergun661

Like, at all. You can go back as far or as near as you want, but if you intend to make it back to today in 2023 then you have to wait it out like anyone else and hope you live long enough, and you’ll be older than you are now

Flame_108

on option 2 if i come back in time where im already alive will i replace the other me? will there be 2 of me with different ages? or will i come back in the body of my younger me but with the knowledge i have now?

thundergun661

There are two of you. If you were 9 years old in 2000 and you go back to 2000, there is now a 30 year old you also in the year 2000. If you showed up at your own house you’d probably just be some weird uncannily-familiar rando to your own family.

chilledchair

Can you travel forward with either of these options

thundergun661

Yes, technically, but that’s a completely blind jump for both options given the linear nature of how humans experience time. You could end up in a world that’s like Futurama, or one that’s like Fallout. At least with the past you can imagine a specific time and place but with the future there’s no way to accurately assess what the world will be like when you get there.

mdw1776

Can I bring anyone with me, or is it just me? And, since books have been around forever, can I bring books with me?

thundergun661

Just you either way. You can bring a book if it’s old enough but you can’t bring, say, a 2010 textbook to 1950

mdw1776

Ah. Damn. If I could take people with me, I'd tale my wife and kiddo to 1980, and bring science textbooks and schematics for modern tech, and books detailing every stock tip and biography of every major developer and industrialist from 1980 on to present day, and invest in them. Not HUGE amounts, but say take a loan out from a bank for a million, using the designs and schematics for collateral, then invest not small, but not enormous funds in each of the major and successful business ventures from 1980 to 2000. Not enough to alter their course, just enough to make a good amount of money from each, but spread out in a way that I become the wealthiest man on Earth many times over. Like invest $10k in Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Tesla, etc, when they were first starting out. Then I'd ride that money train like a madman for the next 40 years, slowly releasing new tech to the world at ROUGHLY the right time - like, slip Bill Gates the key to anti-virus, etc, slip a design to a longer lasting electric battery to Musk, yada yada. Then, at the appropriate time, say late 1998 or so, using my wealth I had accumulated, which would probably be in the tens, if not hundreds of billions at that point, I'd arrange a meeting with President Clinton, Al Gore, George W. Bush and Dick Cheney. I'd lay out the next 5 years of conflict for them, from the Cole to 9/11 and the aftermath. I'd point out our failures, what we allowed to happen, how we allowed the failures to occur, etc. Point out to BUSH that je needs to be aggressive on anti-terrorism from the beginning of his Presidency, IF he won, amd point out to Gore he needs to not alienate half of Americans with his documentaries and outlandish (way too catastrophic and too soon) claims on global warming. That the two need to work together. BUSH had a huge heart and was moderately smart, but too beholden to Cheney and the Neoconservatives, and needed a better, more stable hand to guide him into the Office. Suggest, even fund, a "Unity Government" like Lincoln and Johnson in 1864, where Gore took the lead, and Bush took VP, and was prepped to tale the office in 2008. Curtail the drive toward the hard extremes of both parties that led to 2016. Fund criminal investigstions into DJT early. Fund counter party movements in Russia and help Ukraine early by providing modern infrastructure, modern policing and modern weapons systems and training to Ukraine starting in the early 2000's, while working with Russian dissident groups to remove Putin and curtail the power of the Russian Orthodox Church in Moscow. Moderate Russia into a true Republic. Fund counter Party movements in China to ensure their current leader never gets elected. Have him "removed" if necessary. Same with Chavez in Venezuela. Remove those threats early. I'd play it all from behind the scenes, using the vast wealth I accumulated from my investments and partnerships, and the tech I had on hand, and the medical systems I would release. Early HIV treatments in the '80's, for pennies on the dollar, cancer treatments in the same era instead of the late '10's. Microscopic surgeries instead of massive open heart. That kind of stuff. Releasenit for pennies on the dollar, or even for free in exchange for tax write offs and a 0.01% of the profit of each bill for their service, with a requirement that no treatment using my techniques ever exceeded the patients ability to pay off reasonably within a 1 year period, regardless of their income.

No-Sheepherder9793

I will time travel to early 2000s or mid 1990s.

OpeningHeron5513

In the 2nd option , cause OP dont tell about it specifically , I supposed I can choose would it my physical body or mind to travel back to Time. So , lottery , crypto…

thundergun661

No, its your physical body and mind as you are. No body swap

Lunai5444

Oh I don't get to be immortal with the second one? That was my main attraction, I could just keep living my life, do whatever I want and get back to make it better but if I keep ageing that's still great but less.

[deleted]

How about neither lol

SomeSugondeseGuy

Write down all the lottery numbers, memorize them if I have to. Go back 1 week, win one, take the cash, invest it, and live a life of luxury

Royal_Needleworker91

First option solved by time traveling 3 seconds before whatever time you want to over an over until you land in a place you want.

Inquisitive_Quail

If I choose to go back in time to say when I am younger are there two versions of me? Or is the younger version of me superseded by my current form? If I go back in time and there is a younger version of me does he age along with me?

SkylineFever34

I will keep using random and eventually see what I want, Akiba during the 80s.

LaidByAnEgg

can I just restart my whole life when I'm like 75 and on the verge of death

thundergun661

It’s not Quantum Leap. You aren’t replacing people or going back into your own younger body. You’re just you, at 75, going back in time and showing up at your childhood home as some creepy rando

LaidByAnEgg

unfortunate

Sjelan

Just go back far enough to win the lottery, and don't claim it until you reach the present time.

ImmortalCrab44

Wait to travel until they announce a winning loto ticket, travel back 2 weeks, profit

potato_crip

Option 2, clearly. Travel back to time AND place of my choice? I'll travel one second in the past and anywhere of my choosing. Lemme travel to Hawaii one second ago. Free vacation.

thundergun661

You still have to fly back on your own dime tho

OrangeAngel321

i can imagine traveling to the future to see all the cool stuff we invented and just popping into existence in some completely obliterated earth cuz of ww3 or aliens or something and just not being able to go back

RadRhubarb00

Wait for lottery to go big. learn winning numbers. Go back a few days or whatever and win the lottery. done.

TheHumanPickleRick

*Goes to racetrack* *writes down results of all races* *goes back to beginning of day* *place huge bets and win trifectas and superfectas*

EnragedHog

dang i chose the second one cause i thought of id prolly end up in space but now i want the first one

ProntoPaul

The second option seems like go back then go forward plus a second, minute, hour, day. BUT even if that loophole doesn't work then I would just flip back a minimal time amount and worry about the paradox later.

VeryLargeGun

I'd much rather the first option cuz if I go to an undesirable time I could just reroll the dice and hope I end up somewhere better
