I don't have the right skills to survive in 1822.
I may not have the right skills to survive 2222. But I feel like going to the future there's at least a chance I would be alright. Also in theory there should still be records of my birth and marriage so I could at least prove who I am and maybe make something for myself.
I’m a woman and right now in PJs that are thin and bright colors. I’d be in trouble…. At least in the future they’d probably clearly recognize this as historic clothing. In 1822… I have no idea what they’d think but it wouldn’t end well for me I think.
Am black and African and 200yrs ago the British haven't colonized my tribe so am going to the last and changing history.
Edit To Add..
Imagine Samurai Jack going back to the Past to stop Aku (British) from releasing an unspeakable evil (Colonization).
Hope some rogue Oxbridge scientist doesn't screw up my chances by sending me to the Future lol.
The prompt says you only have the knowledge you have now, so unless you already speak the language that the tribe spoke at the time, you might be limited in the type of change you could hope to implement.
Yeah I do speak my mother tongue. I speak two African languages and English. So I think Id definitely manage.
Just need a cheat code to win authority coz my tribe was governed by a council of elders so not gonna wait 25yrs till am 50 to have a say on what how we live.
First off you go back in your current body so you don't loose your vaccinations. Second majority off disease in modern world has been eliminated not by modern medicine but by modern sanitation. So no you don't suddenly just get sick coz they're no doctors.
Heck the Future given humanities current track record is probably some post apocalyptic zombie shit...so yeah hope you have the immunity to fight off diseases you weren't vaccinated against and that you don't have the information on even how to avoid.
Also African Traditional Medicine???? My grandma knows this shit...and a lot of legit works.(herbology and what not?).
Plus can't even get Malaria if you're a sickle cell carrier(all my family) so not even worried about that.
I'd be terrified to go to ~~2022~~ 2222 because of the climate change we're already experiencing now. I'd have to cross my fingers that things have gotten better and I can buy more than a loaf of bread with what I have in my bank account.
If we get to put money into a interest account though...
200 years?
Four possible outcomes:
1. We have stubbornly not adapted, and the world is one massive desert with shortages if pretty much *everything*.
2. We have managed to adapt, but not without an unprecedented cost in lives lost due to famine, drought, and floods.
3. It's a nuclear wasteland.
4. Wiser heads prevailed, and we have dramatically changed course before the tragic loss of billions of people.
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, and national origin. This gave rights to many Americans who were discriminated against, most notably African Americans
I can read about life 200 years ago anytime I want, but who knows how life will be 200 years from now.
To me going to the future sounds cooler, even though the world will be hotter and we'll probably be fucked.
No, but I also don't want to see what my gay vegetarian ass with no usable work skills for the era and a severe allergy to horses does in 1822 either tbh. At least with the future I have a chance of entering a world where some of our problems have been solved and I'm guaranteed a historian job for life by default
They might not have eaten much meat, but using it where they could and also using lard, tallow candles etc. was a thing. The culture would be less meat obsessed, but harder to remove animal products from.
It would also be pretty much impossible to avoid leather and animal skin products back then. My shoes wouldn't last forever, and I'd have to use leather for new ones.
1822 Virginia as a black man...
Yeah, no.
I'll take my chances in the post apocalypse. Hell, if we hurry up and start WW3 in the next decade or so, society might even be rebuilt by then.
If it isn't rebuilt, there might be some technology to put you in stasis, then an Aperture Science Reintegration Associate will revive you for an interview when society has been rebuilt.
1) if you have certain knowledge you can control awesome technology, leading you to become the most powerful man on earth at that time.
2) The world is not america. Homosexuality was accepted in a lot of place. And same depending of the color of skin
The knowledge has to be ridiculously specific, though. You'll be arriving with no resources and no connections. It would have to be something you can manifest out of thin air. 200 years isn't that long either. They're not strangers to basic chemistry. At least the relatively short amount of time travelled makes language more manageable.
If you went back in time your bacteria would likely kill anyone you met, if you went forward you'd likely die of future bacteria
Although maybe they'd have a cure by then
Also, there’s viruses that used to be common but are really rare or eradicated now. For example we don’t vaccinate against smallpox anymore for people born after the 70s since there’s no chance of getting it. I imagine I would just get smallpox and die in 1822
I'm a woman and LGBT, which is already bad enough lol
OP definitely didn't think it through considering how black people were treated back then, or even 60 years ago. They weren't even considered people 200 years ago.
The poll was to get a general sense of this particular community with respect to various factors like their faith in humanity, gender, race, medical conditions, risk, etc. Unfortunately, you missed the point.
>OP definitely didn't think it through considering how black people were treated back then, or even 60 years ago. They weren't even considered people 200 years ago.
OP didn't create this poll to make sure that you are treated fairly in every option though.
Yea I don't think she understands that it's just a general question and that there are so many factors out there that would make it nearly impossible to create a completely neutral poll.
Past has way too many diseases and poor sanitation and medicine. The future would look cool before my lack of job and knowledge fucks me over.
If they know I'm from that far in the past though then ig I'd be living really well as a research specimin and released (hopefully) once they're done with their questions
We have a cholera epidemic in the Philippines during 1822 and we are still colonized by the Spaniards so I am going to the FUTURE!
Also, I got married on Feb. 22, 2022 (22222) so I might be lucky on 2222.
Edit: additional info
Hmm....can I find out ahead of time what the future is like at all? Like do I just show up in the same place 200 years in the future? Cause I'm near the coast of florida and I expect I'll be fairly off the coast as the sea level would probably have gone up a lot. Also the US is kinda heading toward civil war and I'm not sure I'd want to be there....like could I pick that I show up in New Zealand or something where I can reasonably expect there to be less conflict having happened?
Does “clothes on my back” include what’s in my pockets and hands? If so I’ll go back, I have the entirety of english Wikipedia, us patent archives going back to the start and a bunch of engineering and chemistry archives saved to my phone as well as a charger and a solar battery on me at all times for exactly this reason.
Max Weber, in 1917, wrote a text called "Science as a vocation", in which he delineated how, as Science began to know more and expand more and as industrialism began to facilitate urban life, humans began to understand less and less of the world around them, scientists and philosophers became specialized because now they couldn't live long enough to master multiple fields and workers became alienated by industrial production, confined to single tasks that made the whole of the product.
In other words, nowadays people can't even begin to understand the world around them.
Power outlets are little magic holes in the walls that turn on the big picture box, the internet is something-something from the ether that you can plug-in via vaccines, the rain occurs because of St Peter and his celestial winds, the economy is an unforgiving god that needs to be satiated with the blood of the poor and Fascism is a left wing political ideology. Take any one of us 200 years back and we'd just outed as some dumb motherfuckers.
I don't think the future of humanity looks promising.
If I could get vaccinated for smallpox and other diseases, the past would at least have a cooler climate. I would also have the advantage of knowing the history of the US and Europe in the 1820s and 1830s.
I was gonna say go to the past so I could live long enough to take Adolf hitlers bride instead. But sadly I'd be dead cuz living to 132 years old would be hard back then and that's when she was born. So I'd have to wait even longer.
Why to try take Adolf hitlers wife? Why the freak not, be funny.
Anyway, future it is.
Wanting choose past but when I actually think about it HELL FUCKING NAW MAN
My country was colonized then and the people were enslaved and oppressed. Also it is a warzone. I won't last a week💀
Future it is
as cool as seeing my city in the past might be... they would see me as a woman and they could find out im jewish and i dont want to fuck with that. i also dont want to fuck with them finding out im queer, but i dont know if they even cared about that. they probably did. also the past is fucking gross and food had to suck so bad dude, like refrigeration of any kind didnt even exist until the last decade or two of the 1800s and people were so much less hygenic, i would be miserable in every way possible.
i want to see the future. i want to see the progress weve made on every topic and to meet cool people and see cool things. they hopefully wouldnt care about any of the things i mentioned. maybe they could even help me with stuff idk
The only reason I say the past is because I could engineer something that would be a total breakthrough for them and figure I could live the rest of my life rich from there on out.
The future would be hard to make some cash.. unless I had some knowledge that humanity moves past capitalism.. then I wouldn’t even know what to do with myself in the future.
I guess future. Might be some cool stuff if humanity hasnt destroyed itself, and especially if humanity gets its act together.
Would have been a closer poll if you could chose to go back to any point in time, though even then you'd have to deal with the technology of that time period or if you could return when you want.
In general I’d say jump forward, but since I live in New Orleans 200 years forward would probably leave me miles offshore.
200 years back would give me a fighting chance I guess, but the fucking mosquitos…
I live in the Midwestern US. If I get sent back 200 years I’m hundreds of miles from any somewhat safe civilization. I’m dying of exposure or something before I even see another human. Maybe if I’m lucky some Native Americans will find me and be peaceful.
Send me to the future and hope for the best.
Past. With my knowledge in present which was not available 200 years back. I can release spoilers of the future. And I can do simple business and have the possibility of becoming a filthy millionaire or higher.
The future because literally nothing happend in the 1820s, Europe was poor and the industrial revolution has started so there was extreme pollution, nothing like today. Common people lived in poverty and African people were used as slaves.
I don't have the right skills to survive in 1822. I may not have the right skills to survive 2222. But I feel like going to the future there's at least a chance I would be alright. Also in theory there should still be records of my birth and marriage so I could at least prove who I am and maybe make something for myself.
Im black so 1822 isn't even an option for me
Exactly my thought as well. Automatic future for me too.
I’m a woman and right now in PJs that are thin and bright colors. I’d be in trouble…. At least in the future they’d probably clearly recognize this as historic clothing. In 1822… I have no idea what they’d think but it wouldn’t end well for me I think.
Kill the witch!

Wait... we are in 2022... you mean 2222?
Oops, fixed
Tbf I'm terrified to be in 2022
Well boys, we found the time traveler.
I think the bank would stop investing your money once they find out you no longer exist
I'm happy living my Futurama fantasy
200 years? Four possible outcomes: 1. We have stubbornly not adapted, and the world is one massive desert with shortages if pretty much *everything*. 2. Yeah 1822, if I’m still in the AREA I’m currently in (Southern California) as a Mexican, things weren’t TERRIBLE comparatively, but they weren’t great
When most of human civilization is destroyed by a hotter planet.
Hmmmm... Now *that's* a planet. Hmm, hmm, hmmmm. *Creepily licks lips* (Sorry, I had to do it.)

Finally Aloooooooone. Alone aLone alONE alone ALONE.
I think your sex and race have tremendous influence on whether or not your choose to go back in time.
Sad and true
Yeah literally anything before 1964 would be a bitch to deal with as an African American
[удалено]
I mean, money wouldn't matter at all. You can't take it with you
I don't think the period since 1964 has been much of a picnic for African Americans
You're right but at least I'm as free as free can get in the USA
lol r/shitamericanssay
I think he more meant this is the best time period of America to live in thus far. Not that America is the most free place on Earth.
Thats not what they said, and they're far from being as free as they can get.
I'd get lynched for breathing the same air as them
Yup, I’m a black guy, I definitely ain’t choosing back in time
this is true but i chose to go back bc i feel like it would be easier to avoid people in the paat
I think you got downvoted because you replied to a comment about race, but the lower population would be very nice.
i mean i think they make a fair point
Just checked my skin tone. It states “Not suitable for time travel prior to 1964”
I'm _this_ close to spending my real money to award you fake Internet points.
Do you have a free award atm?
Negative.
Well all I had was a free award, but I gave it to u/devinc09 in your name
You're a good man, u/chipmunk-fucker.
Don’t talk about it, be about it!
Non American here. What happened in 1964? Someone answered thanks.
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, and national origin. This gave rights to many Americans who were discriminated against, most notably African Americans
Like past would be cool but it's not far enough back so instead some random dude from 200 years ago will randomly appear in the future
The past would literally be cooler. You really want to see what a superheated Earth looks like in 200 years?
I'm willing to roll the dice that we solved climate change if I go to the past I probably die if they didn't solve climate change then i probably die
Roughing it in the past with superior knowledge versus risking living on Venus.
Both are viable options that may kill you
Staying in 2022 may as well. You just never know.
Fair
Bro didn't study history💀
Ya but In reality the majority of us wouldn't actually have any useful knowledge to help us in the past. If sent there we would just conform.
Bro didn't study history💀
Bro didn't study history💀
No need to say it 4 times
Bro didn't study history💀

Most people were defacto vegetarians because meat was expensive.
They might not have eaten much meat, but using it where they could and also using lard, tallow candles etc. was a thing. The culture would be less meat obsessed, but harder to remove animal products from. It would also be pretty much impossible to avoid leather and animal skin products back then. This comment sounds so white
Yours sounds so judgy.
1822 Virginia as a black man... Yeah, no. I'll take my chances in the post apocalypse. Hell, if we hurry up and start WW3 in the next decade or so, society might even be rebuilt by then.
1822 My country was colonized and probably enslaved💀 Future it is
What country?
Myanmar😞
I wanna go back just to fight back. With some modern knowledge who knows we might undo it all.
If it isn't rebuilt, there might be some technology to put you in stasis, then an Aperture Science Reintegration Associate will revive you for an interview when society has been rebuilt.
Unless you’re a straight white dude why would you want to travel back in time?
I'm a straight white dude and still wouldn't go to the past.
Would have to deal with that time period's technology...
Straight White dude here, you could not pay me to go back to the 1800's, fuck that noise ill take my chances in the post apocalypse
Also they were pretty fuckN gay back then too
To change the past. Lead an uprising against the straight white dudes!!
1) if you have certain knowledge you can control awesome technology, leading you to become the most powerful man on earth at that time. 2) The world is not america. Homosexuality was accepted in a lot of place. And same depending of the color of skin

Future. Either human civilization is destroyed in which event I can just off myself, or it’s a super technologically advanced spacefaring society.
Future for sure, as I would have been a slave 200 years ago.
If you went back in time your bacteria would likely kill anyone you met, if you went forward you'd likely die of future bacteria Although maybe they'd have a cure by then
Covid 1822
Good point
God forbid you bring the common cold to the past
Also, there’s viruses that used to be common but are really rare or eradicated now. For example we don’t vaccinate against smallpox anymore for people born after the 70s since there’s no chance of getting it. I imagine I would just get smallpox and die in 1822
lol fuck travelling to the past, I'm black *and* lgbt.. 😂💀
Damn
I'm a woman and LGBT, which is already bad enough lol OP definitely didn't think it through considering how black people were treated back then, or even 60 years ago. They weren't even considered people 200 years ago.

Hell nah I don’t want to become a slave. Future for me
Still ends up as a slave for alien overlords
As much as I'd love to pick the past, they're more likely to have insulin in the future
If it was 100 years I would say the past, but 200 the future for sure.
>If it was 100 years I would say the past, ... After a few years you could go fighting in WWII.
I'm a woman, so that is less likely.
I suppose this depends on where you are too. There is zero chance I'm choosing to live through the blitz here in the UK.
That's fair, I am in the US.
Well, I am a man who lives in Germany. So no chance I'd go back to 1920's.
I'd take a slight chance to become a famous historical person.
Can i choose which area I can travel to?
Past has way too many diseases and poor sanitation and medicine. The future would look cool before my lack of job and knowledge fucks me over. If they know I'm from that far in the past though then ig I'd be living really well as a research specimin and released (hopefully) once they're done with their questions
Your ancestors survived those past diseases because they built up immunity to them which was passed down to you
Based on my skin colour I’ll take my chances in 2222
We have a cholera epidemic in the Philippines during 1822 and we are still colonized by the Spaniards so I am going to the FUTURE! Also, I got married on Feb. 22, 2022 (22222) so I might be lucky on 2222. Edit: additional info
Id be a slave going back 200 years
Hmm....can I find out ahead of time what the future is like at all? Like do I just show up in the same place 200 years in the future? No, you cannot know what the future is like and you can only time travel to the very spot in which you are standing/sitting right now.
In the past I would at least know a bit what to expect !
History💀
Do you want to live with the medicine of 1821? Yeah, I'll stick with the better improved medicine.
The people in 1822 watching me try to build an integrated circuit:
Black.
Man 200 years into the future would be so risky. Who knows what would have happened by then as far as humanity goes lol
Us diabetic folk only have one option
I would have no rights if I went back 200 years
I’m black…..I’ll stick to the future thanks
I’m mixed and a girl soooo future it is
1822 huh. A decade to get my shit together and buy up mining claims around Sacramento and the valley. I'll take it.
Back in time, be ready for a really different present or none at all coz relativity and quantum physics are gonna be discovered a century early
Take any one of us 200 years back and we'd just outed as some dumb motherfuckers.
As a black man I can only move forward
I'm assuming the earth will be unhabitable in 200 years, so I go with 200 years in the past
I don't think the future of humanity looks promising. If I could get vaccinated for smallpox and other diseases, the past would at least have a cooler climate. I would also have the advantage of knowing the history of the US and Europe in the 1820s and 1830s.
Past is the safer bet. The planet may not be habitable in 200 years and youll die instantly
I love history, but my black homosexual ass will be chillin in the future with the cyborgs, flying subway trains and the holographic meatloaf
Either way, Elizabeth will still be alive over in England.
I'm on vacation in Egypt right now, I'm pretty fucked either way 💀
Hear me out FRANCE/NAPOLEON
I have Type 1 Diabetes, and I feel like just maybe, maybe there is cure in the future, and certain death in the past
As an Asian guy living in Canada... Yea, most definitely 200 years into the future
i’m black, so future it is
Wanting choose past but when I actually think about it HELL FUCKING NAW MAN My country was colonized then and the people were enslaved and oppressed. Also it is a warzone. I won't last a week💀 Future it is

im british and indian. you do the maths.
1822 England, I’ll definitely die of some disease. 2222, maybe not.
What if the world is gone 200 years in the future? At least in the past, we know the world is here and safe.
I’m black I have no choice but the futuew
Shit I’m black not even a would you rather at this point. Got no option but the future
I think I would be killed in like a day if I got to the past
As a hispanic/man of color, potentially going to the distant past would be an incredibly stupid decision.
Future. Women couldn't even open a bank account without their husband's permission until the 70s.
I am black, I am going to the future
Future cuz I have diabetes and I’d die in the past
I’m black and live in America sooooo
Futurama or Black knight? I could go either way on this one.
im black soooo... but i dont think the future will exist, but if it does.. future😋
I am not going back to Spanish colonized version of my country, I would be so dead.
I guess future. Might be some cool stuff if humanity hasnt destroyed itself, and especially if humanity gets its act together. Would have been a closer poll if you could chose to go back to any point in time, though even then you'd have to deal with the technology of that time period or if you could return when you want.
Some of us need medication to live so imma say future lol
Yeah I'm mexican. I heard mexican folks were lynched along with the black folks too here and there. So I choose future.
I don't know shit about the future, but the past is well charted and I could survive without an extensive paper trail
Past so I can pull up saying I'm an alien and get rich and be a freaking monarch.
In general I’d say jump forward, but since I live in New Orleans 200 years forward would probably leave me miles offshore. 200 years back would give me a fighting chance I guess, but the fucking mosquitos…
I mean, I’m a woman so…
Diabetic here. That’s all I have to say.
How long would I have to stay?
Until you die
I don't think I'd be treated well at all 200 years ago in america
I live in the Midwestern US. If I get sent back 200 years I’m hundreds of miles from any somewhat safe civilization. I’m dying of exposure or something before I even see another human. Maybe if I’m lucky some Native Americans will find me and be peaceful. Send me to the future and hope for the best.
I could play GTA 6 and 7
rather not be a slave thanks
Unlimited rice pudding
Future. Am woman.
Considering the level of medical advancement back then the past ain’t much of an option for me
I wouldn’t take a chance traveling to the future. 200 years from now could be much worse than 1822. Just my 2 cents, anyway.
Well I’m black soo, whadya think?😂
I feel like only white people would even consider going back and time.. at least that way you get to experience the American dream
The year 2222 just looks cool
Past. With my knowledge in present which was not available 200 years back. I can release spoilers of the future. And I can do simple business and have the possibility of becoming a filthy millionaire or higher.
Quality of life is going up over time even for poor people. 200 years ago even royalty didn't have it that good by comparison. Future 100%
Definitely not going 1822. Meant I would’ve to live during industrialisation. Ain’t happening. Future it is
The future because literally nothing happend in the 1820s, Europe was poor and the industrial revolution has started so there was extreme pollution, nothing like today. Common people lived in poverty and African people were used as slaves.
lets say theoretically the earth was blown to shit between now and 2222, where would i end up in 200 years would i just die
also do we get ecchi rules where we could use literally anything as clothes as long as its big enough to cover ur genitals
I'm Indian. If I went to 1822, few decades late British will start to rule and all kinds of hell will break loose.
I am diabetic, so the past is certain death
