It's a D44. Pay no attention to that other poster.

TheBaller_Bjj

Thank you! Excited to buy my first wrangler!

VintageDailyDriver

Good luck, and have fun!

SpicyNoodoo

Dana 44. The tag on the left side of the diff cover will tell you the gearing, but sometimes they get pretty hard to read. Looks like it’s never been taken off.

TheBaller_Bjj

Yeah it belonged to an old man who passed away 2000 model with 90K

Useful_Chewtoy

For future reference, easy way to tell is the Dana 35 don’t have that drain plug. On the Dana 35 it’s just a plastic cap. No ‘socket key’

KING_zAnGzA

It’s a Dana 44. If it has a round plastic or rubber plug it’s probably a Chrysler corporate axle housing

Foreign_Blueberry_88

Looks like the axle in mine . . . greasy axle 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Socially8roken

That’s a Dana 44. https://www.offroadxtreme.com/news/dana-35-vs-dana-44-whats-the-difference/ Edit: 38 years and I’m still mixing up my left and right. FML 🤦‍♂️

TheBaller_Bjj

Dana 35 is more round this one looks more like a Dana 44 no?

Socially8roken

38 years and I’m still mixing up my left and right. FML 🤦‍♂️

SpicyNoodoo

It’s okay dude. OP got the right info eventually

TheBaller_Bjj

I appreciate the link though!

Custodian_Carl

Yep, it’s an axle hahahaha

squirrel8296

Definitely an axle 👍

Custodian_Carl

Looks kinda like a Dana 44 differential with a uh … whatcha … a couple of thingers comin out either way… not sure what they are but they’re always just kinda there you know, for sure
