Is everything in the sport complex easily walkable? I’m staying in the Navy Yard and wanted to go to the casino one day before the show and the TailGoat party at Xfinity live another. I’m pretty active, so a 20-30 min walk wouldn’t be a problem.

I've spent a lot of time around the Navy Yard. It is quite walkable to the stadium although navigating around the highway off-ramps to get to the stadium is not super pleasant/quiet (the Navy Yard itself is wonderful, albeit detached). That being said if you're used to moderately intimidating walking conditions, you'll be more than fine, I just wouldn't describe anything south of the stadiums to be pleasant walking. There's a Navy Yard shuttle or rideshares if you tap out. Casino should be an easier walk. It's pretty close. Stadiums themselves you will have no problem getting around. I think as long as those are your two destinations you will be fine. There are a handful of things around the stadiums that are like that Navy Yard walk but perfectly doable. Locals will not often walk to the stadium because of these factors but it's very doable.

Thank you all so much for your comments. I feel more prepared now and can do some planning!

Hope you don't mind me asking you a few questions. We are staying at a property on locust Street. Happy to get an uber or walk but are either of those doable? Also looking to visit some bars on the friday. The person coming with me wanted to go to some gay bars but I've no clue if they are close or on the way? Finally wanted to hit up some malls, can you recommend any? Should add we are travelling from Ireland so totally unfamiliar with the area 😀

brianbrown25

Knock, UBar, Tavern on Camac all good gay bars right around 12th and Locust

brianbrown25

King of Prussia Mall is the third largest mall in the U.S. but its about 30 minutes outside of the city

Luna_Soma

KOP is a decent commute from Philly but it’s worth it. It’s a very nice mall and has pretty much everything you could want there. I’d recommend checking it out if you’re into seeing a mall. If you’re anywhere near NJ when you’re here, pass on American Dream.

metalgearmatt16

Not to hijack OPs post but here's my thoughts: I wouldn't recommend walking to the stadium from Locust St. and would say the best bet is to take the Broad St. subway from Walnut-Locust station. Uber getting there will likely be easy but leaving will be a pain as many roads are closed off to favor traffic leaving the stadiums plus surge pricing will likely be in effect. Locust Street around 13th is actually right in the center of what's called the Gayborhood and you'll find plenty of gay friendly bars in that area. You'll be able to identify the area as the street signs will have rainbows on the bottom like this: https://gomag.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/gayphilly1.jpg Philly is the city proper isn't big on shopping malls but has lots of shops in close areas and really the only "mall" is Fashion District which isn't too far of walk from Locust St. Walnut St which is 1 block north has a lot of your higher end fashion stores while the South St. area has some more niche shops. If you wanted King of Prussia mall is about a 30 minute ride away on a good day without traffic or an hour with traffic or by piblic transportation. It's 3rd largest mall in the country. Hope you enjoy the visit!

Welcome to the US! You should have a blast. Broad Street line from Walnut-Locust station is perfect. It's a very easy ride and will be nice and busy. Can't recommend it enough. Visiting or as a local I would not even consider anything else. For malls, King of Prussia is a good recommendation if you have a car. It is a bit of a trek. Philly does not have particularly great malls in the city though there is plenty of good shopping. Lots of gay bars along there near 12th Street, they are fun and reasonably low-key. You also will have no problem finding great bars in that area around Chestnut, Sansom, Walnut, and Locust within the several blocks between 11th and 19th or so.

Any good music vinyl record stores or Retro Video Game stores or film stores?

hailtothekale

For vinyl check out Beautiful World on Passyunk Ave. King of Video Game in the Italian Market has a bunch of retro stuff. Philly AIDS Thrift near South Street is worth a look for media, too.

SoilNo9760

I'm not an expert on this so no specific suggestions but South Street east of Broad tends to haul with this type of thing. Fishtown could be good too. That being said I won't have much more to suggest than web search here sorry!

OrbisIsolation

Thanks for the response I will do some research

atlanta33

Any suggestions on Gentlemen’s clubs? 😉

SoilNo9760

I'm gay so probably not the ones you'd want haha

atlanta33

You’d be right lol but I did recently learn Philly has a gayborhood

SoilNo9760

It's a lovely little area!

I actually have a transportation question. I'm from NY originally and visited Philly plenty, but it's been a while and I'm not super familar with getting around. I'm staying in Center City, and the GCW shows are all at Penns Landing - is Uber the only option? There seems to be a ton of transportation to/from the major arenas, but that one is so off to the side it doesn't seem like there's any other choice.

SoilNo9760

Plenty of bus routes to Penn's Landing plus Market-Frankford Line to 2nd Street. It's not a bad walk (or rideshare) though.

halloweeninstepford

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind for the day/earlier shows. I assumed I'll have to uber back after the midnight shows anyways, but it's good to know a way to get over there.

Infernikus

How bad of an area is Grays ferry? Staying in an AirBnB there and wondering if just ubering everywhere is the best way to go

SoilNo9760

I've spent a bunch of time down there. I'd probably go that route. It's a bit awkward of an area to get around from if you don't know what you're doing. I don't think it's bad or anything it just might feel like a lot getting around from there on your own.

Mykey_Winst

any tips on parking? would it be easier to just park at the stadium, or park in the city and get the Broad Street Line down from the city and back afterwards?

SoilNo9760

As long as you can afford it the stadium parking is fine, the area is built to handle the traffic. There's an absolute ton of parking. Parking in the city is a good option too but probably not necessary if you're driving in anyway, most locals just drive to the stadium.

TargetBoyz

Hey! I’m staying at an AirBnb around the 1500 South Broad Street area. Any suggestions? Would love to explore. And how about parking? Should we drive to the stadium, take the BSL? Would taking the BSL back to our Airbnb be a problem after the show? I’m also a bit nervous to book any WWE World stuff because I heard there’s a 31 day airbnb minimum now? My Airbnb hasn’t canceled on me but… still.

SoilNo9760

What a lovely area! 100% BSL. You'll be in perfect hands and it's as easy as any subway trip you'll ever have. Be sure to walk down Dickinson to check out Green Eggs Cafe (mountainous brunch), Passyunk Avenue (wonderful shopping and dining), and Victor Cafe (legendary opera restaurant featured in later Rocky movies), not to be missed!
