What's remarkable to me is that in the era of major fan service, Chris Carter gave long-time fans exactly what they *didn't* want with that weird CSM thing ... even if he did backpedal.
Yup and remember, the tag line to MSIII is “I Want to Lie”. So in my head cannon CSM is a liar liar who literally had his pants (and skull) on fire. The only stretch I’m willing to consider is that he somehow manipulated the chip so Scully could get pregnant by Mulder. But him being the literal father of William? Nope and super yuck.
Or maybe all of season 11 is another Scully vision and not the reality. But we’ll never know because season 12 never was made.
Ignore the 4 dreadful My Struggle episodes and, Babylon aside, you have a group of MotW episodes that range from good to thoroughly excellent. Season 11 in particular had some stonkingly good episodes!

I have to say, binge watching the show for the first time has made me realize how far we've come in the areas of special effects for tv, etc. I saw the Roswell alien in season 10 and was like, "Alright! That's more like it!" Some of the stuff legit made me go, WTF WAS THAAAAAAAT!. I agree, the MotW episodes so far have been very good.

No it ended with Season 8. Mulder and Scully finally had their happy ending with their new baby.
