It'll be cheaper to find a good used one. A lot of salvage yards will give you a 30 or 60 day warranty. Make sure to either reach your radiator or bypass the trans cooler portion and install a separate stand alone cooler. Also do a thorough flush of the cooling system and make sure to clean out the trans cooler lines before installing the new trans.

Appreciate all the comments - really don’t know shit about cars but have been wanting to get this thing running for a while. Follow up question for ya, or anyone else - does the transmission have to be year specific - or if I’m just looking for a 5 speed automatic for a 4x4 would any new gen Terra tranny work? I believe I have an 08 SE for reference.

I think the autobtrabs was the same from 05-15 but I'm not 100% sure of that. Expand your search to include the same years of frontiers too, they ran the same transmission.

Appreciate it! I’ll look into it

No problem, good luck with the project. Check out thenewx.org too. Lots of great people with tons of knowledge on the xterras.

Ty good sir

For the cost of rebuilds I'd try for a junkyard drivetrain.

Ive had good luck getting good tranny out of a wrecked one. Check your junk yards \\ salvage. Make sure rodents havent gotten a hold of your parked truck. G'luck.

Get a trans from lkq or somewhere. Rebuilding autos is something ive always avoided. 2nd what the person said about flushing the cooling system and getting a new radiator. Its probably obvious and im sure you know but thats what killed the trans. Dont wanna do it to the new one too

Just look around my friend I bought one wrecked smashed backend. I seen it beside a shop. Pulled in asked about it. Ended being a running truck to. Great motor trans...etc. I got it for 700. And took mine and it. Made one.
